Just had a phenomenal experience here. For happy hour I had seared scallops with wild mushrooms, saba and parsley emulsion. The salmon on fried potato cake with horseradish creme fresh and finally the cacio e pepi. All have great presentation and full of flavor. Highly recommended! read more

Lovely meal with tasty cocktails and one of the best restaurants in Avon if not the best. The mussels were delicious and it was a generous portion. Our biggest shock and head scratcher was the grilled octopus with just THREE tiny pieces. While the mussels were spot on for $21, it's beyond us that they would bring out 3 mediocre pieces of octopus for $18. We literally laughed at the dish when it came out and considered sending it back out of principle even before tasting it. Of course when we did try it, it was average at best. Do yourself a favor and skip the octopus. The kids split the chicken and mac&cheese with no complaints. My wife ordered the Tilefish (one of the evening's specials) and it was flaky, sea bass like and full of flavor. I went with the wagyu flat iron. The meat was well seasoned and the chimichurri hit the spot. Lovely place with outdoor yurt dining if that's your thing and prefer a quieter, private experience. It does get a bit noisy inside but when you have two little kids, it works out just fine. read more

The food was fantastic and the wine selection was outstanding. However, I was there with a friend who suffers from PTSD and, as a consequence, has an emotional support service dog. He was not only asked to provide proof that she was a service dog (illegal), which he did, we also had to deal with a condescending gentleman who was either a waiter, bartender or manager, who clearly had contempt for the dog that helps get my friend through some of the harder times of his days. If you wish to escape the crowded Vail dinner scene and happen to have a car, definitely make the trip. Their claim to fame of course is the overwhelming wine list and if you're into that type of study you could be engrossed for several hours. Just try to remember that not all the dinner guests at your table are equally enamoured with endless discussions of years, boldness, tannins, locales, etc. but if you collect an equally enthusiastic group of wine lovers this is the place for you! Now the food options are outstanding and come with wine pairing. We started with the roasted beet salad that added a funky twist to the beets you may be familiar with, not special enough to recommend but the smoked salmon served on a puff of fried potato was outstanding and an art piece. Beware the cacio e Pepe, it comes with a barely cooked egg in the center of your pasta and explodes with your first forkful. Not at all like the classic dish and takes some getting used to. The wood grilled prime beef tenderloin is highly recommended, if they have the short rib small plate, order it! Fork tender! Since this is my 100th review, I thought long and hard of our most memorable culinary experience & Vin 48 in Vail,Colorado is a restaurant that we always talk about how fantastic it was. Hubby and I are big Foodies and for our 13th Anniversary we did a trip to the Food & Wine Festival in Aspen. It's' a long drive from Denver to Aspen,so we stayed overnight in Avon(Vail area)CO. After a long flight and car drive, we checked into The Marriott & walked to the nearest restaurant that caught our eye. Low and behold we walk into a cool & trendy Wine Bar in Avon called VIN 48! Service was fast and friendly and our waiter was personable. We mentioned it was our anniversary & he told us the amazing Happy hour specials- $5 wines by the glass, $8 appetizers and 1/2 off entree specials! Now you ask why is it called VIN 48?? Well for the locals Vin 48 means certain nights you get 48% Wine bottles! We were in Wine Bar Heaven & ordering a bottle or 2! Cheehoo! We saw several dishes on the menu that would be showcased in shows like Top Chef & since we were on our way to a 3 day Culinary event we said what the heck, when in Rome do what the Romans do & go all out! We started off with an Olive plate, Pate and Hummus & Flatbread- Olives were amazing in a garlic-rosemary infused oil, and hummus was so smooth & creamy. On to the wine to wash it down! They have a great wine list but we were a bit overwhelmed, so our waiter offered to send over their Sommelier. Wow! How cool is that?! He came over, was nice & knowledgeble, even offered a few tastings. We had a few glasses of a nice white that were normally $12, but were on Happy Hour for $5 & he picked out a bottle of Red (1/2 off!) for dinner. Now the palate experince begins.. Small plates- (Reg. $10-$14) $8 Happy Hour - Bison Salad, Foie Gras and Pork Belly (Yup,Pork Belly!) - Salad- Hearts of Palm Salad (never had before) with a wonderful Oriental dressing.. AMAZING! The texture and flavors.. wow! We now look for any Hearts of Palm salads wherever we go! - Pork Belly- Oh my! Oh so succulent! Perfectly braised and crunchy on one side and just melted in your mouth. It came on a creamy bed of what we thought was Mashed potoatoes, but instead was a little sea of buttery, truffle-flavored Cauliflower yumminess! - Foie Gras- Can Fried Duck fat be anymore decadent? We should've had it for dessert , it was so rich! Woo! You would think we would be stuffed by now, but our eyes & mouth were wanting more! On to our 3rd Course- Our Sommelier had opened our bottle of Red to breath while we had appetizers & came back ready for the pouring. His timing was impeccable! - Seared Scallops,Seared Duck Breast & Greek Yogurt Marinated Lamb Loin- - The scallops were on the small plate menu, but for $8 you got 5 perfectly seared scallops sitting on a Yuzu, lavender oil puree with crispy little shallots like onion rings. Looks like an entree to me! - Hubby ordered Lamb Loin, came on the bone & he looked like King Henry enjoying a Greek style dish. He motioned a Thumbs up since his mouth was full of lamb and fried chick peas, LOL. - I ordered the Duck which was incredible! Crispy with a red wine demi sauce & escargot & kale sides, who eats like this but a Queen! - 4th Course -What you say, it's not dessert?! Well as I mentioned we were to attend the Food & Wine Festival with the likes of Giada, Tom Collichio, Gayle Simmons, Emeril & Ming Tsai ... so when we saw Sweet Cheeks (Sweet bread) on the menu we HAD to try it!. Now contrary to it's name, it's not a sweet but savory-rich dish. Sweetbreads are the glands or pancreas of the lamb. And YES, it was truly a mouth-watering dish that one has to try if it's on the menu. This was the beginning of an amazing anniversary! As we downed the last glasses of Red our Sommelier (point que once again) offered a few more wine suggestions, and at 1/2 off... WHY NOT? 5th Course-Finally dessert! Hands down, we agreed on the Creme Brulee. Being Colorado, alot of their dishes were infused with Lavender including their Orange-honey Brulee. It really is a nice light fragrant taste to any dish. During the time we were having a nice, romantic culinary dinner, we looked outside to the patio over-looking the Rockies and it was hopping and happening with beautiful people outside sipping on their Happy Hour drinks. We thought about joining them, but we were having such a great time, we ordered 2 heated Amarettos to savor and wind down the evening & asked to take the rest of the red wine bottle along with a scallop, sweetbread, mashed cauliflower, 1 bite of duck breast & lamb to go (Gotta love Midnight snacks!!) Sorry to say there wasn't a drop of Creme Brulee left *wink* When the check came, to our surprise our waiter comped us dessert & our entire bill (including 2 bottles of wine) came to under $110! We dined here on our last night in Vail Valley, and I desperately wish that we could stay another night and eat here again! I f I could give this place six stars, I would! First of all, my husband had a hankering for a margarita... You might be wondering - why a margarita at a wine bar? But anyway, they created the best margarita this side of Rosarito Beach - so limey and not too sweet.. So good that he ordered two! I, on the other hand had wine, which was perfectly matched to our meal, and so delicious. The menu at Vin 48 is a masterpiece! Lots to choose from and a wonderful array of selections. My mouth was watering, just reading the menu. They offer small plates and large plates, a nice twist on the overkill of soooo much food that is offered at some dining spots. After much deliberation, we settled on the warm goat cheese salad, steak tartare, and the special of the night, seared scallops. Let me just say, Oh! My! Gosh! From start to finish this meal was one of the very best we have ever had, anywhere - and we are enthusiastic diners! The steak tartare was flavorful and exceptionally tasty. As with all of the dishes, the presentation was beautiful. The scallops were a culinary delight! They were served with handmade gnocchi and thick sliced proschiuetto in a incredible creamy basil sauce. I had to close my eyes as I tasted this, it was that amazing! I have saved the best for last, the warm goat cheese salad. This was absolutely the most wonderful and beautiful dish I have ever eaten.! The goat cheese was coated and lightly warmed, and set on a bed of beets from the chef's own garden. The herbs and light dressing topping were beyond description. All I can sat is you MUST eat this salad! We throughly enjoyed the wait-staff, and loved talking with the chef and owner of Vin 48, Charles Hayes. He is an artist and a true culinary visionary! Oh! I've lived in the Valley and worked at local restaurants for several years now. My first visit to Vin 48 was very disappointing. Small portions, bland flavors, and an uninformed waitstaff made for a very "meh" meal. Sure, they have a good wine list, but so do most of the other great restaurants around (Beano's, Grouse, Sweet Basil, Toscanini, Zach's Cabin, etc.). Some of those prices might be a little higher, but you get normal-sized portions and creative dishes with complex flavor. I'm not sure how this place stays open, given what a value it is. Great food and wine at surprisingly reasonable prices, and that's even if you don't get there in time for happy hour. Maybe that's the difference between Avon and Vail? I was impressed how the small plates actually had almost regular-size portions. Try finding that at a "small plate" place in the SF Bay Area! Service was nice and the space is surprisingly comfy for a dull-looking building bordering a parking lot. We were visiting Beaver Creek over Thanksgiving weekend and got in during the day.. didn't make reservations, just walked in on Thanksgiving night. When I asked if we could sit in another part of the restaurant, they immediately accommodated us, even though the restaurant was busy! This is 5 star service - surprisingly rare even at the best restaurants. Food was 4.5 We had small plates of sauteed sea scallops and beef tongue potstickers to start - melted in my mouth! So delicious! We also tried the ahi tuna tartare sliders - to die for! My only complaint is that the four cheese ravioli came with a thin soup sauce that was lukewarm. For dinner we had their Thanksgiving special chicken and pecan wood smoked beef tenderloin which were both mouth watering. We also had a bottle of wine. Our server was very attentive and got us the best fit for wine. Ambiance is a solid 5 stars. Dim, warm lights and a luxurious beaver - creek - feel all the way. I wish we had a Vin 48 in Michigan - will definitely come back. read more

First and foremost, the restaurant is all about Charles Hays -- the meticulous detail to quality of the finish dish! I had the pleasure of sitting at what most restaurants would have called the "Chef's Table" -- it's simply a bar looking at the kitchen. This is first restaurant that I've seen where the "Chef" is on the receiving end of the finished dish, instead of micro-managing the "kitchen and cooking". Firstly, I asked someone, un-assuming guy with a baseball cap, to add a salad to my order, he simply said, "No problem". Well, when I heard the waitress call him "Chef", I said to myself, "Oh sh--t", I just asked the chef to perform a lacky task, but like he said, "No problem", and sure enough, I got my salad. Ok enough about Charles! Most people that enjoy wine, order food so that they can enjoy their wine. Vin48 lives to its name by offering a wide range of wines -- try their Burgundies (both the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir) -- awesome! If you are a wine aficionado (NOT WINE SNOB), you will have an awesome experience and fun pairing the wines with the food. Okay...I am giving Vin 48 three stars because in the grand scheme of EXCELLENT restaurants, they get a three. The ambiance and service are great. The food execution is average. The duck confit sliders were a bit salty. The 24-hour oxtail pot pie was not as tender as I would've expected from something that supposedly stewed for 24 hours. One diner in our party commented that the food is good, but there was no depth. I concur. However, I must applaud this restaurant for trying to stay local with the produce and meats. read more

Well where do we start, here we are sitting in a competing restaurant after a failed attempt at a decent meal. So we had decent drinks (after sending back their Special 48 that tasted a bit like break fluid) and ordered the duck confit sliders. Wow, the salt content was higher than the dead sea of Israel. The pumpkin soup (with the goat cheese ravioli swimming in it was quite mediocre as well) The service was good, ambiance decent but a few of our friends who live locally have advised us that this place is "hit or miss" well tonight was a total miss ;)) So save the time and your dough, choose a place that is more consistent. We ALWAYS arrive at 4:50 to ensure that we get a seat and sit where we want. I am not kidding, but, each time we have enjoy Vin 48, at 5:20 there is only standing room only. I hope you understand that this is how good Vin 48 is!!! As you will see in the other reviews, the mussels are to die for!!! A very large selection of wine and an incredible staff, makes this a must go to every time you (and me) are in Avon/Beaver Creek! This was absolutely one of the most AMAZING places I've ever eaten at in my entire life. I was visiting from Florida and this was recommended to me from beaver creek stables. What a delicious menu and everything was made from scratch. My mother in law has a gluten allergy and I have an odd allergy to pepper. Most places I've been here have snubbed their noses in my face for having this type of allergy but Jaycee our server was so knowledgeable, kind and understanding. This venue went above and beyond with service. I highly recommend this restaurant. We had the mussels, pork chop and horseradish mashed, and the halibut. Wow, we love this place. LOVE this place. While we are from out of town, and don't get to go here as often as we would like, the times we have been there have been exceptional and memorable. First off, the bad. There was one time we went there, the bar area was full, and we got a table outside. Our waiter was spacey, had very little information about the menu, and was unenjoyable. Strangely our night got better when the weather got worse. It got to bad to sit outside, and a table opened up in the bar area, where our night got much better. Every time we have eat in the bar area, the service that we have received has been fantastic. Even when the place is slammed, the service we received was mellow, attentive, and informative. The selection is fantastic. While they specialize in wine, their beer and spirit selection is quite extraordinary as well. The wines by the glass are spectacular. Wines that I have never seen by the glass before. You do pay for them, but its rare to get to try an amazing glass of wine that would normally be in the hundreds of dollars for a bottle. Ever food item that we have had, has also been exquisite. Of the many memorable items that we have had there, such as mussels and scallops, by far the top of the list was a pecan wood plank tenderloin. I love wine bars, especially when I'm on vacation in places where they have weird liquor laws like Colorado. According to the locals that we went with this place had just opened. They had a full bar also which made our non wine drinking companions happy. A little too happy actually. Our little Irishmen was enjoying his shots of Jameson a little too much. The more he drank the louder he got and the more he embarrased our waitress. Oh well, some people can't be taken anywhere nice. On to the wine. We decided to just drink and have food later so I can't comment on the dishes that they serve. They all looked and smelled good though. I love a wine bar where they let you order flights of wine. Especially when you don't recognize any of the wines on the menu. My friend the Vegan ordered the Orgnanic flight, how appropriate. I myself ordered a flght of reds, can't remember which ones. Not all of them were great but then wine is about what you like personally. Not about what everyone else likes. The Vegan and I shared our flights and between the two enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. Our waitress was very nice and accomodating as well as everyone else in the restaurant. Very cute place which reminded me of the many restaurants that we have in San Francisco. High ceilings, dark furniture, lots of windows, very pretty bar. I believe most of the tables were elevated with high stools but I'm not positive. We usually do not leave Beaver Creek Village to dine during our ski vacations, but we wanted to try something new that Tuesday. I'm so glad we drove into Avon because Vin48 was GREAT. Staff was excellent. The friendly host checked our coats; our busser made small talk and made sure we had water and bread and dipping sauces whenever we requested it; and our server was smooth, knowledgeable, organized, and seemed to genuinely care about our experience even as his other tables grew occupied. An observation of the staff that night was they were all male, at least from where we sat. Food... well, I loved everything we tried. As foodies who strive to try everything, having the option of small plates made so much sense to us. Grilled baby octopus was perhaps the weakest dish we tried (nothing wrong, but we've had better octopi at Mizuna in Denver and Aqui Esta Coco in Chile), yet we still gobbled them all up. The seared scallops, on the other hand, were among the best I've had; tender, medium-sized, and perfectly cooked. We loved the 7x ranch marinated skirt steak with the roasted turnips - the turnips were delicious, tender, and I'm encouraged to buy more turnips at home. The artisan cheese plate was very generous and served on a long wooden board with a variety of nuts and dried fruits; we delighted in the selection as each cow, goat, and sheep cheese each had its own distinct personality. My wine was tasty, and they do have several by-the-glass options, which I appreciate as we always have a designated driver. Vin48 also offers non-alcoholic sodas and coffees. Overall, prices were actually reasonable. We were stuffed at the end of the meal. The restaurant is easy to find, though the front entrance is not obvious. Our dining room off to the right had an industrial, minimalist feel to it with tall ceilings, bare concrete floors and walls, and dashes of red. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the parking lot, but it snowed light powdery stuff that night, lending a bit of magic and warmth to the room. The bathroom was nicely appointed and modern, but the bare, high-ceilinged room seemed to magnify all sounds... ahem. The bar area looked neat, as did the open kitchen, and we could hear the chef calling out orders including ours. We'd love to go back. RECOMMENDED. read more

As far as restaurants in Avon, CO go Vin 48 surpassed my expectations and left me happily satisfied. We started the evening with their clos la coutale Malbec. very reasonable in price, and was a surprisingly very nice and well constructed blend. We were served tasty breads with 3 dipping sauce options, all rich in flavor. Went on to have the PEI mussels - made with homemade house chorizo, oven dried tomatoes, garlic, chili flake, white wine, grilled focaccia - INCREDIBLE. I then had the seared sea scallops - served with forbidden rice, sauteed vegetables, cashews, ginger butter sauce - for a scallop "snob" i found these exceptional as well. My father and dining companion had the sage gnocchi - with veal meatballs, butternut squash, pecorino - which he thoroughly enjoyed -- the gnocchi was light and well made. Overall - i would both recommend this restaurant and go back in a heart beat. Fun atmosphere for nearly any occasion. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon Vin48 one evening whilst we were staying in Avon. The food, service and atmosphere were great. We were so impressed that we decided to spend the following night - New Year's Eve at Vin48. What was great is that even though they were super busy the staff, especially bar staff (as we ate at the bar), were super friendly and not phased by the number of patrons. The bar tender taking our orders always made sure we didn't need anything else and stopped to chat with us. What was even more surprising was that Vin48 did not have a set New Years Eve menu at an exorbitant price - we were able to order straight off their regular menu and they had some additional specials for the night. Had a recent family dinner for 4 here - while the menu is varied it is a bit awkward as it consists of now fairly popular mix of sharable small plates and actual dinner large plates. Our waiter encouraged us to try multiple small plates - while most of the dishes were tasty we found many small and difficult to share and VERY overpriced!! The one large dish we ordered ( fish special) was actually very tasty and reasonably priced for the quality of the food. I think the best way to do this place would be as a regular dinner with maybe an appetizer or two to share before the main dishes ( wish the waiter had steered us this way as I think it would have made fir a.m7ch better experience). Having said that, their mussels "small" plate is delicious and could easily constitute a meal for one person (salmon appetizer is also excellent). The wine list is comprehensive. The ambiance is nice but there is nothing particularly special about the space. The service was solid. read more

I ordered the corn soup with crab cake which was on special and the small plate of mussels. Both were excellent. Others in my party highly recommended the fish, but not the steak. We waaaay over ordered for two people (6 small plates and 2 dessert)' but everything was so good, we just kept going. Small plate highlights were the pork cheeks, mushrooms, and the goat cheese salad. They suckered us into getting two desserts (1 for $10 or 2 for $16...I love a good deal) and both were great. Mmmmm...maple bacon pecan bread pudding with bourbon ice cream. We liked that you can do a personalized wine flight by ordering 3oz pours. read more

Indifferent is my best explanation for Vin 48. As with most people, we were in town skiing and headed out to dinner, I wasn't expecting a lot, I think a lot of restaurants in towns such as Avon (and Vail, Aspen, etc.) bet on the fact that they are able to present an upscale atmosphere, decent food and high prices and get away with it. Due solely to the fact that the majority of folks who come aren't locals and are only in town for a few days or a week; therefore, there's a constant flow of fresh patrons for the restaurant. I digress. My first issue was we asked for a wine recommendation from our server, the only thing he could muster was a $150 bottle of wine. Come on, really? Yes, I realize you want to push the expensive stuff but he couldn't suggest a little more reasonable bottle? Are you telling me the only good wine on your list is $150? Second issue, the service seemed to be very spotty, a couple that sat down 15-20 minutes after us and already had their drinks and appetizers before we even had our drinks...and yes, we ordered prior. I noticed another table having a entree sent back as it was incorrect. Anyways, my SO and I along with a another couple split a handful of small plates that included the Bison Carpaccio and the Smoked Pork Cheeks. These were the two memorable and very good plates that we had, the others (drawing a blank on what they were) weren't even worth mentioning. Disappointed after seeing good reviews. Pork meatballs were flavorless. Grilled Peach Salad I could have done at home. Chicken drummers were the best of the many small plates we had. Design was interesting but hard surfaces made it loud even though it wasn't crowded. Too many other places to try before we'd come back. read more

Best meal I've had in Vail in over a year! I'm a frequent visitor to the Vail Valley and recently discovered Vin 48. Hands down, it was the best meal I've had in the area in over a year. I know a restaurant is good when I can't decide what to order - I could have ordered anything on the menu. I ordered the chicken which was excellent! I could have gnawed the meat off of the bone it was so good. What I liked about all of our entrees was that they are a great portion size. We all felt satisfied but had just enough room left to try dessert. The carrot cake was amazing and my friends loved the chocolate peanut butter mousse/pudding. The management at Vin 48 is smart - they give you just enough food to leave you completely satisfied but it also leaves you wanting to come back for more! I'll definitely be back!! read more

My wife and I are on our honeymoon and some of the food we've had has been lackluster. This was recommended to us by a local business owner, and it well deserved the recommendation. Our waitress was incredibly polite and helped us choice from the impressive selection of wine. We gave very vague descriptions of what we liked and she managed to pair our choice perfectly with our order. The wife had the striped bass with potatoes and asparagus with a Bearnaise creme sauce. I ordered the pork cheeks with guacamole served over grits. We both thought our order was better than the other. For dessert I had the carrot cake and she the raspberry creme brulee. The carrot cake was just carrot cake, but the rum sauce was phenomenal. She absolutely loved the creme brulee. Of all the touristy places located in Avon, this place has been our favorite by a long shot. Also, to address some of the gripes with the other reviews, I would avoid the "small plates" and "snacks." From what I've heard they're nothing to write Yelp about. read more

Vin48 was awesome. After a full day playing with our 9 year old Son at Glenwood Canyons, we decided to treat ourselves with a visit to Vin48. It was awesome! We ordered about 6 small plates, including reorders on the wild mushrooms and ravioli. They were both outstanding. The flavors of each dish were unique, meshed well with each other, and were well appreciated by our entire party. 2 of our party tried a wine pairing, but i stayed close to my familiar spot with a draft Chimay Beer, one of my favorites. Service and ambiance were outstanding as well. We would recommend Vin48 to anyone lucky enough to be close enough to visit! read more

Ended up here after a really terrible experience across the way at Sauce on the Creek and it really saved our night. Good small plates, excellent flavor combos and quality, fresh ingredients all really stood out. Couple the food quality with EXCELLENT service, and great ambiance... our group was happy...to be honest it was just what we needed after a long day of travel and a bad visit to the other spot to start the night. We are lucky here in Avon to have such a gem with quality food, great service, and a fun & welcoming atmosphere like this one. If I lived in the valley full-time I would gladly make this a go to place, as it is I look forward to coming back when we are back in town for the 4th of July festivities. read more
