I went there last night for the off season 48% off, and had the King Salmon. I have to say that I was surprised... it was really good. The food that is. I had a glass of the Cristom Pinot Noir and it was hot, literarally like I had ordered hot tea and perspiration was forming on the glass.... from that fancy wine pouring dispenser gizmo behind the bar they must be able to regulate the temp. Oh and, FYI Vin 48- room temperature is not a balmy 72 when we are talking about red wine. Think drafty, chilly basement temperature (where wine was orginally stored back in the day when French chateaus stored cellars upon cellars of it). Room temperature is more like 64. If you are going to be pouring $14 glasses of this stuff, please regulate the temperature so people can actually drink it. I have to say that the restaurant can use a little fall cleaning. As the sun set over the mountains and the lights turned on, I could notice a film of grease covering the 2 story high windows from the bar. That's kind of gross. I have one other bone of contention to pick... with the unique offerings of wild boar and phesant, what would someone eat if they only eat chicken? The "chicken" that is on the menu is a chicken sausage, which seems kind of sneaky by the way it is worded on the menu. Our server had to actually tell me that it's sausage, so after hearing that I ordered the salmon. Good luck, Vin 48. You have a little bit of work to do before ski season.... read more

This used to be my favorite in the area (now replaced by Dish) but still now slouch... This places thrives on one key word : atmosphere. This is one of the best laid out, most fashionable places up here. From the rear seating area where you have a great view of the wine collection to the impressive bar, this place is just great. There is no better place to watch the snow fall at night than at the bar - backed by it's large, two story window I have spent many a night watching the snow come down. As for the food - two years ago I would have said it was the best outside of Spago/Larkspur. However, as I have eaten Around a bit more, it see s a have slipped down a notch - don,t get me wrong, there is NOTHING bad here. Everything is well done, and presented beautifully. This place does such a good job that a friend of mine had his wedding reception here. But it just seems to be sitting still with the menu while other places are constantly changing theirs. We went here in March, so this is a delayed review. The food was actually good, but the portions were so small for the price. My husband ordered gnocchi with meatballs and he literally had 9 gnocchi on his plate and it was his entree. Now, we had just finished skiing all day so you can imagine that 9 small gnocchi and their 4 small meatball counterparts were not enough. I ordered a tuna dish and it was fine. The wine was good and the ambiance was as well, it was probably the best part of the experience. We gave it a low rating because for $100 you don't expect to leave hungry. We would not go back here. Everything here was excellent; worth the price. Highly recommend the scallops, beet salad with goat cheese, and the lamb sliders.

Very-much worth going to for dinner. Great wine and beer selection along with a menu that had both large and small plates. Get the small plates (about 4-5 for a couple is sufficient) so you can try a variety of the delicious things that the chef prepares. The service is stellar as well. Vin 48 is a happening place! Very attractive inside and out. Modern cool decor. Everyone seemed to know each other. Wine was tasty. Our waiter was very helpful as I am a picky eater and ask a lot of questions. I loved the heirloom soup! Our waiter said the ravioli was only about 4 pieces and wouldn't fill me up. It may tho because the soup was filling. But I tried the vegetable pasta, which was divine but I could only eat about half. My husband got the Colorado striped bass and loved it. I would definitely go back to try some more things on the menu. There are quite a few fish choices. read more

What a fabulous dinner! We read reviews online and decided to give it a try. So happy we did. Wonderful fine dining in a casual comfortable yet chic environment. They have an excellent extensive by the glass or by the bottle wine list and the menu had exceptional choices. The wild mushroom Gruyere appetizers was sooooooo delicious. Then, delicious lamb chops finished up with a superb peach cobble. Service was excellent. We also really appreciate that they did not rush us through any part of the meal. We are from from LOs Angeles and leaving in the morning, but if I was ever back in Avon we would definitely done here again. Wish I could give it more stars! read more

The service we had was kind and attentive and that was the highlight of the experience. The foi Gras was bloody and greasy, the kale salad was minuscule. The entrees left all of us craving more, the documented carrot cake was just like any other. It's an OK restaurant. read more

Ok, so the food was not good at all. Wine list was extensive but expensive. I think if you just came here for a nice glass of wine, maybe it would be ok. But watch out! They say you get a six ounce pour but you actually get a scant 4. I heard someone say the dessert was good. We didn't have any so maybe that's another way one could like this place, just come in for dessert. Ok, so I had the pate and crab ravioli so, (2 small plates). My husband had the veal meatballs, (a large plate). Let's start with me. The pate was ok, needed seasoning though. The toasted bread that came with it was so hard I thought I was gonna chip a tooth!!! NEXT! Then I got the ravioli. 5 nickel sized pieces! I could not taste any crab though. The one thing that WAS tasty and interesting was the pickled mustard seed. Surprisingly so. On to My husband. He had 3 Brussels sprout sized veal meatballs sitting on top of creamy polenta. He liked the polenta but nothing else. The tomato topping was flavorless as was the fried basil leaf. Our bill was $66.00 before tip. We left hungry. So sad, it could have been so nice. I will say the waitstaff was attentive but not well informed about the menu items and the ambiance was good. I'm thinking,.... don't waste your money though. Overall, I'd skip it. read more

We wanted to love this place. The host greeting us was really friendly, the waitress was pleasant and the view was awesome. The food was cold. We ordered the mushroom dish on the small plates. The reviews on yelp were great but the fish came out cold. The short rib was really flavorful but it was barely warm. Salt Lick bbq was there and the special came out with a huge amount of food which was flavorful and yes, it was cold. The flatsteak was served over greens and sadly... it wasn't warm either. I am not sure what happened in the kitchen but it was disappointing to say the least. We all agreed it was really 2 1/2 stars but the staff were really sweet so we gave it 3 Stars. read more

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we were treated like a King and Queen. They sat us in a semi-private wine room which was lovely. Our waiter, Steve, was very attentive and helpful. I ordered the halibut and my husband ordered the prime rib. Both dishes were perfect! It's not the cheapest restaurant in the area but it's nowhere near the most expensive either. The food is creative and delicious. It works great for sharing. Our party ordered a whole lot of small plates to share. The selection of wines by glass is varied and impressive. The atmosphere is relaxed and the noise level comfortable - it was easy to have a conversation across our big, round table. The kitchen seems to prefer to cook their meat on the rare side. Our "medium" lamb was almost purple on the first try, but they quickly cooked it a bit more upon request. read more

Enjoyed the entire night after letting the staff know it was our honeymoon. Everyone was great the food was amazing. But after our dinner the staff set a table of loud ,pampered , obnoxious guest next to us and ruined our evening even after we requested a very quiet table alone. Vin 48 was a wonderful place to go for happy hour. We were a party of four and when we arrived we were told we could seat ourselves anywhere on the left side of the restaurant (which was packed) or upstairs (which was empty). When went upstairs, we were concerned that know one would know we were there, but within minutes, a very friendly server came to help us. We ordered everything off the happy hour menu and we all enjoyed almost all the dishes. The one dish we agreed we could do without was the duck sausage, the taste was a bit medicinal. Other than that, everything was delicious and the waitress was very sweet and friendly. We would definitely go back to vin 48 when we are back in town! read more

Ok first busy place we've been to on this trip. Place had a great upbeat vibe with many locals. We sat at bar kitchen area without being acknowledge 7 minutes so we moved to bar which was still slow but quickened as evening progressed. Food was good. Probably would've been better if we picked other options. We were in a light mode. Wine selection was great with fair pricing but the small but way better than expected bourbon selection was off the hook. They had offers that many large brown bars don't have??? Will go back for that especially since their pricing was great on these items and I know the cost! read more

Kelly was our waitress and she was fantastic! My husband has several food allergies and she was so helpful finding foods he could eat and they even made a special dish for him. We lucked up and came on a night when they were having an off season special. We both had the Steelhead trout and it was the best meal we have eaten in Avon! Oh my goodness, was it delicious! My friends and I stumbled upon Vin 48 on a girl's weekend. After having a few yummy cocktails, we had some appetizers and small plates that were really great. Coming from the Boulder/Denver area, it was great to find a hip, trendy place in the mountains. The bartenders and owners were so sweet, and made sure we were taken care of.
