I love this place. They have a fantastic selection of unique local beers. I always try a random stout from their selection and have yet to be disappointed. I also like to grab a few blondes, IPAs, sours, etc...for friends/family when they're in town, beer genres that I know nothing about. As a deal hunter, sometimes I feel genuinely mad at myself when I find out that I've been missing a good deal. Discovering Vine St. Market was one such occasion. A couple of weekends ago, I had a friend in town from Pennsylvania. She had a request from a friend back home to pick up a certain beer: Alaskan Smoked Porter by Alaskan Brewing Company. I took her to Downtown Spirits because I figured that if anyone would have it, it would be them because they stock such a large variety. We found it, and she bought 3 bottles at over $9 each. The next day, walking back from the Chihuly museum to Seattle Glassblowing Studio, we walked past Vine St. Market and my friend asked "Can we stop in there?" There we found the same exact beer at $6 each. She could've bought another beer and a half at that price! Well, they don't sell half beers, so, she could've bought another beer and had money leftover! I was mad at myself that I didn't bring my friend in for the best deal! But I didn't know! Now I know. The lady owner is a gem! So friendly and helpful! Caveats (and while Downtown Spirits doesn't have to worry, I'll always be a regular): They don't have a humungous selection (hey, it's a little shop!), they don't sell liquor (stick to beer and wine), they don't have cold beer or wine, and they're cash only. That's how they can keep their prices so low! I'll be back because I love a good deal! Stop in today and stock up for the weekend! read more

I have avoided pablum like "Neighborhood Gem" in my Yelp reviews....till now. Small and unassuming, this tiny closet of craft beers, wines and tobacco products is so money (sorry to bro out). Beer is obviously their main purpose, they have international beers and lots of domestic. It's obvious that every beer was picked special - they don't just have all New Belgiums or all Ninkasi - they sell particular, individual beers. You can pick singles or packs or mix/match your own sixer. Jay (maybe Jade) walked me through popular choices and new acquires as I made a mixed Six-Pack. Far too many things to try at once. She was super sweet and talked to me about their business and how they try out new breweries every week (or so). This is a CASH ONLY establishment which she informed me of before I went to pay. The total came to $10.02 and she just took off the 2 cents because she's sweet. They do have wine, a pretty small selection (which I have not sampled yet) but the vinos seem to be picked out with an equal amount of care as was the beer. They also have tobacco products which is nice if you are a smoker. Sometimes, I like to mix a little - newly decriminalized in Washington State - herb in with a very particular type of Clove cigarette (if you were ever a troublesome 15 year-old girl, you will be familiar). They have these obscure cloves! Jay talked to me about the importance of good friends, food and drink and really gave me the impression that she cared about the market. All together, it's a cool little shop to grab a vice. I plan to come here regularly and expand my beer/wine acumen. I even saw a few Sakes. I EVEN saw a little cooler with lemonade and coconut water for sale - it was if the owner thought about what they use after a night of drinking and smoking and said, "Hey, try this...it'll help you, friend." So please, please, please come find this store and patron it. I really hope that this place does not get swept under the rug and disappear, I mean...it's a gosh, darn neighborhood gem. read more

Not only is Vine St. Market an excellent craft beer bottle shop, it should be the prototype of how a small business should operate from a customer service standpoint. The proprietor, Jae, is an incredibly knowledgeable woman. It's made clear from the moment you enter the shop that she knows her beer, down to the name of the brewer that was responsible for your favorite sour (yes, beer geeks, she has a very respectable inventory of sour and barrel-aged beer...far more robust than anything else you'll find in Belltown or the surrounding areas). Jae will make sure you leave feeling like your money was well spent, no matter the brew you're carrying home. The excitement built over your selection is truly genuine and will entice you to crack open beers as soon as you get home (beer you might not otherwise have tried). In addition, Vine St. Market has growler fills and the selection isn't just limited to high-margin local pales and lagers. Good luck finding a 64oz. fill of Monk's Blood elsewhere in Seattle. There is something potentially troubling about blowing up "your spot" when you find a diamond in the rough. There is plenty of selfish instinct to keep that for yourself. But keeping Vine St. Market quiet would be doing a disservice to good beer fans (but really the beer drinking public) as a whole. read more

I came to this place on a recent vacation to Seattle. This is literally the last place or kind of place i expected to go into on my food adventure. What caught my eyes as I walked by was all the beer and the fact that it looked very well maintained. Walking in i noticed that it was purely a liquor store....well saying Liquor store brings to mind too many crappy run down places so lets call this place...a... Liquor ...Palace? Pros. 1. The lady that works here is fanatical about the stuff she sells. She makes it a point to find the best beer she can get her hands on and knows it backwards and forwards. If you let her go she will basically take you on a talking tour of beer from around the world. Even as I was checking out she kept giving me sample after sample and going very in depth with each one, needless to say she convinced me to buy twice as much as I intended to. 2. You are going to find a very wide array of beer here. While the store is small and she only has so much space to work with she makes it work. You wont be buying beer in the dark here and its also the type of place where you can ask about a beer they don't have and she will find a way to get it there. Cons 1. I wish this store and the lady who worked there were in California! Overall. When it comes to a place that is a Liquor store theres only a few things that come to mind as making it good. A solid selection of what they carry and knowledgable staff. On these two points this place is hands down the best I know of. If you are a huge fan of beer or want to try something else give this place a shot, I know I will if I ever take a trip up to Seattle again. read more

I love this place. I love the owner! She is so awesome! She will take recommendations for beer/wine you want to have available. I asked her to have my fave ever summer ale uinta sum'r to have in stock and she ordered it! I came in the next week and saw it! She gives you greAt recommendations, carries a variety of beer and wine. She has the high end wine and wine you'd like to cook with. No pretentiousness here she is a local wine/beer shop that has cider and beer on tap. You can get a veuve cliquot for 50 bucks or a local wine bottle for 9 bucks. This is a great place!! The only downsides, and thus the lack of five stars, are that it's cash only and the beers are room temp. I'm happy to report that my favorite little beer store now takes credit cards and fills growlers!! Actually, a growler isn't even required since she sells by the ounce. She was selling a strong barley wine recently and I said that I couldn't possibly drink a whole growler of it, so she suggested I bring a mason jar and she'd fill that! :) I've been going here since the first month the place opened and it's simply amazing the variety that the owner stocks and the incredible prices she offers. She always has something new coming in that keeps us coming back for more. Yes, most of the beers are room temperature, but I assume that the prices are low because she doesn't have to pay for coolers, so I'm more than willing to plan ahead when it saves me so much money. read more
