From map view, this RV resort very close to 101, how is the traffic noise, especially at night? We have a campervan, no insulation to speak of.

Beach access was cool. Lots of green rocks and driftwood for kids to build with. They also had an amphitheater and we saw a ranger talk on great white sharks. Also a nice home base to go your Hearst castle or do wine tasting. Cambria and Harmony are cute nearby towns to see.

We rented a premium site with a dog relief area which was very nice, as shown in my photo. We were right near the front of the park though, so traffic was very heavy and our dogs were consistently entertained by the people walking by our site. There are also small cabins for rent in the park and our site butted right up next to one. It was WAY too close IMO because their windows went directly into our site. Kinda awkward. This park was very busy since we stayed over the weekend and was full of people who were attending a nearby baseball tournament. That meant a lot of kids and some with no supervision. One night I had to go outside to ask kids to stop running through our site because it was well past the quiet hours and disturbing our dogs. I didn't notice any park employee enforcing rules so that was kind of a bummer. The store onsite was very nice and our kids took advantage of the game room, namely pool and the ping pong table. Overall we would stay here again, but request a site that was near the back of the park and maybe off to the side to avoid so much traffic.

You can rent an open space to park your RV or book one of their cabins. The RV spots offer various sizes for larger or smaller RVs and some come with a fire pit, table chairs, and a set of adirondack chairs for lounging. We rented an RV and reserved spot between the playground and pool; which the kids loved. All of the RV spots come with full plug-in electricity and water connections. If you're looking to leave this kid friendly campground, you're in luck! This location is prime with about Avila Beach being about 3-minutes away, Pismo about 15-minutes, and the Avila Barn being walking distance. Like I said, I'm not a camper, but I could see myself staying here again next summer!

From the start, the staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The manager, Layla, personally greeted us at check in and gave us a lot of great advice for the local area (where to eat, rent boats, etc). Whenever we stopped by the main office on our way in or out, she remembered my name and checked in to make sure everything was going great. We didn't run into any real issues, but I could tell they would have diligently solved them. Once we got to the cabin, the breathtaking view of the lake from the cabin and balconies was so serene. There was even a little private beach (only about 20 feet long) which we share with a few of our resort neighbors but was mostly empty. Perfect to dip our feet in the water and jump on the boogie board -- literally 2 minute walk from our balcony. The food options are a little limited, but the remote nature is one of the perks of this place, so I can't complain. What I ate from the local pizza joint and grocery was all tasty. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking and eating utensils so you could definitely take care of yourself with ease. The beds were comfortable and AC strong (both musts for me). Overall I can't really think of anything I'd change. Except maybe staying 2 nights longer.

This trip was a huge disappointment. When we got to the cottage, there were several things that were missing and of course there's no cell service so you have no way of contacting anyone to tell them about it. The worst part was the general store was closed for two days in a row, which is unacceptable. They should've told every single person entering at the gate that the store would be closed. Who does inventory in the height of the season? We had to drive to the store down the hill outside of the resort to get more ice, etc Since we got cell service down the hill, I called and told them what was missing and I never heard back. To top it off, the boat slip that we were given had another boat in it. Next year when we go to Lake Nacimiento, we will be renting an Airbnb and save ourselves a big headache! The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because they put the fire pit on the grassy area with pavers around it, which was a huge improvement and got a new barbecue so you could cook everything at the one time.

As far as the campsite it self, i was a little scared that it would be too sloped, but it wasnt bad at all. We used a tent and set it up on the left side and kept the table/bench in the middle. We still had awesome views of the water. Everything was so green it looked like it was a filtered photograph. You could see the vault bathroom from our site but we couldn't smell it. The smell was very prominent though around the area where the host was staying. Bring a bucket, diapers (to soak up the pee), and thick plastic bags if you dont want to use their vault bathrooms. We didnt encounter any raccoons personally, but did see their prints all over our cooler (locked) and table in the mornings. We saw a groundhog and it spent an hour digging up a hole. Firewood was $15 a bundle. we have verizon for our cell service and had no signal at all. It actually went out about 20 miles before arriving to the campground. Waking up right on the cliffs above the ocean is incredible and truly makes the trip worth it. There's no cell service, though newer iPhones with satellite messaging can still send and receive texts if needed. Just be prepared: the campground is very rustic. There's no water, no power, and only basic latrines. At $45 per night, it feels a bit steep considering the lack of amenities, but that's the Recreation.gov rate- and the scenery does soften the sting. If you're driving in, know that Nacimiento-Fergusson Road is not recommended for large vehicles, trailers, or anything that struggles with braking downhill. For larger rigs, Highway 1 is definitely the safer and better option. The surrounding area is amazing, with tons of hikes, beaches, and spots to explore. You can even find local jade along the beaches and in riverbeds, which is a fun bonus. The campground hosts are enthusiastic, friendly, and genuinely helpful- one of the highlights of staying here. The only major downside is the raccoon situation. They go absolutely wild at night- climbing on tables, chairs, coolers, even cars and trailers. They will try to open anything they can, so make sure everything is secured or locked up. It would be great to see the park system address this, because they're definitely a persistent (and bold) nuisance. Overall, Kirk Creek is stunning, quiet, and unforgettable- as long as you're ready for a rustic experience and some energetic nighttime visitors.
