Visited here for dinner following the post Argentina v Spain FIFA Final game on Sunday at Mosaic District (broadcasted on the gigantic outdoor screen at Strawberry Park). I was seriously craving Chinese food and needed wonton soup. NEEDED! Upon entering, my friend mentioned the fact the restaurant was empty wasn't a good sign and had a 3.5 rating. Well, don't let that deter you because some of the best Chinese restaurants have a 3.5 rating on Yelp (check out the numerous articles written about this topic)! I tried to persuade my friend but she opted out of ordering anything and wanted to wait to see if I liked my food first. My friend proposed that after I finished, we head next door to Sisters Thai so she could order her dinner. Well, for starters - the food came out fast and I devoured the wonton noodle soup within 10 minutes. The broth and wontons were so flavorful. Interesting choice that they used wheat noodles instead of the standard egg noodles though still loved it. I also like that the broccoli had a nice crunch. Yes, wonton soup typically has bok choy but the broccoli was great. My only regret is why haven't I tried this place sooner?!?! My friend thought I was rushing so she could eat dinner but it was just so good! It was a great portion as well. I gave her one of my wontons to try and she said "wow!!!" Once I finished vacuuming my wontons soup, we walk over to Sisters Thai, but I knew I had to try more food from District Dumplings. You would think I would have been full from the wonton noodle soup but I am a glutton. So, I ordered the pork & shrimp dumplings to go via DoorDash and picked them up as a to-go order and bought them back to Sisters Thai. I had no shame and happily took out the dumplings from the to-go container and put them on my plate. The dumplings were so unreal that they didn't even need to be dipped in soy sauce. They were good as is and flavorful! Even my friend wanted to eat the dumplings and asked for four of them. Luckily, the staff at Sisters Thai didn't make it a big deal but they probably saw that I bought outside food. I'm coming back for more District Dumplings!! I was so happy to have tried a new restaurant and kept pointing at the restaurant that this was my new favorite place. Strangers saw how happy I was and smiled (or maybe because I looked crazy). Will have to gorge myself next time in trying more of the unique dumpling flavors! The food was delicious and came out quickly for our group of 10. You order your food at the counter and then they bring it out to you! I think the space is very clean and well kept. However, a self-service water station would be a great addition to this space. It was a little bit of an inconvenience to consistently go up to the counter and ask for water and water refills. Additionally, extra plastic bowls for sharing had to be requested as well. Maybe that would be good to have at the self-service station as well! Overall, the staff was friendly, but I think there are some aspects that could be incorporated to improve the customer experience. Thank you! read more

Ate at this dumpling spot in Mosaic. I didn't even realize it was there until my friend mentioned it as a place to eat lunch. You order at the register and they bring out the dumplings to you as they are cooked. Each of the dumplings we ordered were delicious. But I think the soup dumpling was the best! read more

My friend has only been to Mosaic 1 other time before this visit, and I felt it was extremely necessary to have her try District Dumplings. Their decor is cute and cozy with just a few tables to enjoy your dumplings, they offer a variety of steamed or fried dumplings with a some specialty flavored ones! We decided to get the 10 pcs dumplings with -pork and chinese celery (had to get the classic, ofcourse) -beef and curry dumpling -bulgogi beef dumpling We forgot to say we wanted them steamed so ended up receiving them pan fried. No worries though because they were still 100% delicious. The bulgogi and the curry dumplings came out with different colored dots on them (to differentiate). The beef curry was my personal favorite but the bulgogi was my friend's favorite. It worked out in the end because we each got to have 1 extra of our favorite (5 dumplings each). We spent about $15 for the 10 dumplings, which in my opinion is not too bad a deal. Plus the staff is friendly; I cant wait to go back ! These dumplings really hit the soul! I tried the lemongrass chicken, edamame and Peking duck dumplings. You can't go wrong with any of them but these three are my favorites! This restaurant has a real family restaurant vibe tucked into all the chains in mosaic. I love how clean it is and you can see the kitchen where they have all of the fresh ingredients. Highly recommend to anyone who's looking for quality dumplings. read more

This place is the size of a small deli rather than a restaurant. I would probably call ahead if you have a big party since there isn't too much seating. BLUF: Clean, bright location. Light on the ambiance. Service was polite, patient, helpful. A little pricey for what you get, but if you're not starving, it will hit the spot for a light snack. Fairly quick in & out As far as dumplings go, not bad. They seemed to be made in-house & not purchased frozen which is a good thing. Yet, the flavor combinations can be hit or miss. We didn't feel there was great consistency. You may choose between fried or steamed dumplings. The steamed dumpings appeared quite a bit larger but not as tasty as the fried ones that really shrunk after being fried. When compared to most places in NoVA where I've had dumplings, these tasted pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way for these, but if in the area & a taste for dumplings, I'd go. The beef and chicken dumplings were nice. I especially liked the flavor of the lemongrass dumplings. But, my favorite dish ... shockingly ... was the wonton soup. It was so good! I've had my eye on District Dumplings for some time and got to stop in today. Since it was just me eating lunch, I went with the standard order of pork & shrimp dumplings (10pc) and the Hong Kong shumai (8pc). My wife grabbed a drink and didn't realize for just that the total was just over $32 (admittedly that's on me for not giving the prices a better review.) The dumplings came out after a little bit and looked pretty good. I tried the shumai first. They're pretty dense and well filled. I felt like they were fairly middle-of-the-road shumai. I couldn't quite make out the shrimp in them. I think they benefitted from the included sweet soy because they had a basic flavor, not bad, but not complex. The pork and shrimp dumplings were just ok. I took a bit to see the filling and again, couldn't really see the shrimp in there. I would have easily taken them for pork & chive dumplings. The dumplings skins were tender, though the very edges on a few seemed kind of dried out/more firm. I used a little black vinegar, again, giving a little more complexity of flavor. Overall their food was fine, but personally I think the price point and quality don't totally align with each other. This is located in Mosaic District. There will be very limited storefront side parking but multiple parking garages (free) to choose from which will require you to walk a bit. There is a wide variety of dumplings and Shumai. There aren't other entrees so do not expect other Asian dishes. The pricing is very reasonable for the amount of food you get. You can choose 3 flavors for a 10piece dumpling for $13. I personally do not like this because 3 flavors for 10 pieces is a little off to me. I also do not like that it's not separated or labels so we know which one we are eating (especially if we are sharing). The good overall was good, but not great. I've had much better dumplings are other dumpling spots! Steamed Pork Buns were nice and fluffy but not that much pork. Their drinks are delicious. The mango soy milk and their lime/ginger/celery/(forgetting one of the ingredients) was VERY good. Highly recommend to try one of these or both. Got the soup dumplings which were good and then got a variety of pan fried dumplings. (3 flavors per order). 2 out of the 3 were good, I don't recall what the one we ordered that I didn't like but the chicken lemon grass and beef bulgogi were delicious! I love that they have chili oil on every table. One thing I think they can elevate is the presentation. For $1.30 a dumpling, I expect much more flavor. Tasted bland and could not be saved by the soy sauce or vinegar "hot sauce" packets. I hope when your reading this and are deciding to come here for a first time you do. I ALWAYS Mix and Match. Always. I don't ever get just 10 dumplings bc 10 isn't enough for me nor my appetite. Today was different... when I walked up the counter. Yan asked me if I was dining in or take out. Told him I'd be dining in. I began to list my order as follows: 2- Pork & Bell Peppers, 2- Lemongrass Chicken.... He stops me and tells me that I can only order 5 and 5 of each above flavor. So my initial thought was they are out of everything else and that's all they had. I asked him if there were out. He said no. I then told him that I'll be ordering more than 10. I proceed to ask him, is this a new policy. Every time I come here, I always order 2 or 3 and even 1 offs of every flavor. Ordering more than 10, every time. He tells me that I could order this way if I order them all steamed, and I told him I always do PAN FRY and always mix and match. This upset me. Can you imagine going into a restaurant and being told how to order your burger? You'd be like WTF... and if you didn't have a choice, you'd walk out and most likely never return... I know I would. After explaining again for the 3rd time, I come here often and have never encountered this, he puts his hands up and says, "Fine, I'll do it for you." Why the hell did you just treat me this way only to now do it. Don't treat customers this way. Swung my this lovely place today while walking in the Mosaic District. It was a great little dumpling place in a fun shipping area! We got the soup dumplings and the regular dumplings to go! The regular dumplings were mix and match, 10 for $12. We got the pork and shrimp, bulgolgi beef, Buddha's choice, kale and edamame. When ordering, we were told that they threw all of the dumplings into the pot and we wouldn't be able to tell them apart, but you could see the colors in the picture. The dumplings were of course all delicious! Definitely worth eating here. I liked the soup dumplings the best, they were beautifully folded and the soup flavor was definitely there. I was impressed that we were able to take the soup dumplings to go and it was packaged quite nicely. read more

District dumplings is honestly my favorite dumpling place in the DMV. I like that you can mix and match so you aren't getting 10 of the same dumpling. They are all honestly quite good especially the meat ones. They have moved back to dine in so you have that option again and it is still social distancing inside. Staff is always friendly. It's usually 2/3 people working at any given time so not a whole lot. You can get the dumplings steam or fried. Fried is best to me and yes that's pretty much it. read more

A cute dumpling restaurant on the edge of mosaic. The beef curry dumplings were good but you really can't beat the classics. I liked the shrimp dumplings the best. Great vegetarian options that are really tasty. These are pan fried and crispy on one side, not deep fried like a lot of places. The filling is super fresh and I can taste the individual whole ingredients like edamame, mushroom, and, corn. Servings are 10 pieces but i got 5 Buddha's choice and 5 of the edamame taro type bc they let you mix. Nice clean restaurant and not busy at all. Rating it a 5 because this place is misunderstood and under appreciated. The food: pretty darn good! We ordered the soup dumplings and lemongrass chicken dumpling. I have tried soup dumplings from all sorts of places including michellin star restaurants... and this was pretty darn good. I went in with low expectations but it's definitely changed my opinion of this place. The dumplings were not too salty and not too bland. When I went inside- it was a bit too humid and hot for me so that was a bit uncomfortable. Next time I'll be ordering and taking home since I live walking distance away. Genuinely surprised this place doesn't have a higher overall rating. I had a great time here. The restaurant is tucked away on a side street. With nothing else open late for food in Mosaic, I decided to take a chance - I'm so glad I did. I tried six different types of dumplings, some fried, some steamed - all distinct in flavor and delicious. The squash dumpling was a standout for me. So many restaurants, the vegetarian options fall flat, but not here. The squash had so much flavor and was perfectly steamed. The edamame dumpling was also great, as well as all the meat options I tried. The dumplings tasted as if though they were fresh and made in-house. I've had many different kinds of dumplings all over the country, and, as we know, NoVa doesn't seem to have many good dumpling options. However, this place far from disappointed. I'd heard so much about this dumpling shop in the Mosaic District. We had just checked into our hotel around the corner and needed a quick bite to eat before a big dinner. The restaurant had a call ahead feature. We ordered three types of dumplings. When we got to the restaurant to pick up the food we noticed they had some outside tables so we opted to eat or dumplings outside. I started with the pork and shrimp dumpling because it was listed as their take on the classic. I guess I'm used to dumplings at my favorite dim sum restaurant. This was not them. There was evidence of lots chives and ginger. The tangy, salty and pungent tasted exactly as described. They were not my favorite. The pork shumai was next on my list. The rice filling threw me for a loop. I could not finish this dish, it was definitely too trendy for my taste. Hubby ordered the basil chicken dumplings. He really enjoyed the flavors. They don't really provide any dipping sauces except soy sauce. I did go in and ask for some hot sauce. It helped. read more
