The last time I ate here was back in 2013 but I cannot review that experience, since it was so long ago. My friends and I ended eating here last night (Saturday evening). There was a 45-minutes wait since it was busy-busy but we waited in our car and chatted, which went by quickly. Once our table was ready, they texted my friend to let her know our table was ready. The service was great and the place is pretty clean. Appetizer, we had the Disco Fries. They were good, the gravy was rich but not overbearing (too much). I did not care much for Ellsworth cheese curds, it didn't do much to the dish and felt like I was eating rubber.. Meal, I had the EV1 (Vegetarian burger, they can make it vegan upon request). I really enjoyed the burger, everything was propionate but the burger can get messy. I do like the side of chips, which they had a lemony taste...maybe it was vinegar - lol. I have never felt so rushed in my life. We arrived at the place this past Saturday at 8:50 pm but we didn't know that they closed at 9 pm. When we found out about the closing time we offered to leave right then, no hard feelings. We stressed that we didn't want to feel rushed and not have the cooks do something to our food because of us arriving late. The hostess and manager insisted that it was no issue and that we stayed. We got alcoholic drinks and 2 appetizers. We started to see the chairs being placed on the tables in anticipation of the restaurant closing. While my date was trying to finish her drink, the waitress informed us that they were closing which we were well aware of. I asked for a to-go cup for my date's drink but they said no. Then, a totally different waiter came over and said, "it's about that time yall." I said wow, if we could've gotten a to-go cup for my date's drink we would've already left. I asked if he was going to provide a cup and he said "oh, okay I can't do that." So, when we left, we spoke to the manager, and the lady just didn't seem like she genuinely cared about our concerns. Mind you, this was the same lady who insisted that my date and I stayed. I was so excited to try it but after this experience, I highly doubt I'll ever go back. read more

Early evening or afternoon for the kids but we went on an early evening during the week and wasn't too loud or crowded. Got a booth and it was roomy enough for 7 butts! Arrived on a Saturday night at 6 PM and the wait time was 30-45 minutes and the wait time is accurate. The waiting lobby was nearly shoulder to shoulder but there is an additional waiting area near the restrooms, which is nice for some extra space. The drinks were strong and super yummy. Much needed after a long week. The Paloma was delicious and everyone at the table loved it. My friends ordered a spicy margarita and they both said it was VERY spicy. The Bad Hombre was a party in my mouth and I loved every sip of it. The Cranberry Union Mule was yummy too. My entree, which was the special of the month, called Revolution Breaker 2022 was soooo good. It had a slight kick but had the perfect balance of savor and spice. We had a reservation for 8 people. 2 of us got there early since it was a birthday party but were told we couldn't be seated until the whole party was there, which is a big pet peeve of mine. Once we were all there we were seated and shortly after ordered. Another party of about 8 were seated next to us. They ended up getting their food before us. We had to ask the server at least 3 times where our food was. I got the vegetarian burger which was disappointing. Also they raised their prices significantly since the last time I was there. We have been dining here since before Covid and their standards and menu options have not dropped. Hello? Vinsetta, are you listening? I am looking through these reviews and I am seeing a trend. The price has increased and the quality has decreased. I went yesterday specifically for the chip and dip and even ordered two orders for the table. Besides the dip being half the size it used to be and the price increasing by 50%, the dip was sour cream. Absolutely no taste of onions at all. Both orders were exactly the same. Very, very disappointing. Let's move on to the salads which were two Greek salads. I can honestly say, I don't think either of us have ever had a salad that bad. Soggy romaine, excessive amount of dressing, onions and chilis. The chilies were so spicy that is all I tasted. What has happened to this place. Oh, let me not forget my $14 Bad Hombre. I have had shots come in larger glasses for half the price. I guess I don't have to wonder why they were not busy on a Saturday and neither should they if they are reading these reviews. read more

I came here for dinner with a friend right before the stay at home order was in acted or on March 13. The restaurant was packed and I have no idea of the wait for a table because my friend beat me there. It is nice that there is a valet associated with the restaurant because it is right on Woodward and parking is a premium. As it was during Lent, I was eating meat free on Fridays so I'm happy there were some options for meat free that were also gluten free. As I had no had much lunch, I got an appetizer of kettle cooked chips and onion dip. It was decent but nothing that I have to have again. For dinner I had gluten free macaroni and cheese. It was quite good but a hair greasy. I would probably have it again because it is always nice to be able to have a gluten free pasta option. The downgrade in stars comes from the fact that there was not a gluten free dessert. So instead of eating a dessert I had a drink for it. I believe it was a special drink of a mint chocolate martini. Came on a Thursday night in late June. Got a seat at the bar. What a cool vibe. Old building from 1919 that used to actually be a garage that worked on cars. Very vibrant and lovely scene. Great for a date or a family night out. A little on the loud side, but the food and cocktails made it well worth it. The bartender Raven was adorable and so fast with the drinks. Like a hummingbird! I tried three different cocktails and they were all so unique and well crafted. This place came highly recommended by Detroit Tuned (my MINI mechanic in Clawson). We went there for Mother's Day because my kids love that kinda food! The atmosphere was very comforting and beautiful, the place has a nice retro ambiance and their staff was very helpful and sweet. Our waitress Leah was very good and knowledgeable of the menus! The only problem is they couldn't do pizzas because I guess their oven wasn't working but we ordered other stuff that were delish. We had the Vinsetta burger which I would highly recommend, their union Mac and cheese, the hand cut fries, the cheese curds and the smoked wings! Everything was amazing, and tasted just right, no mistake at all! My kids had the hot dog and the tenders both with chips which they loved! As for the drinks, their dude drink(basically a spiked milkshake was super smooth and delish and their I think peach sang aria was really good). Based on their average wait time of about 45 minutes, you can guess that this place is pretty good. It's a unique space because it's literally an old garage that they transformed into a restaurant a few years ago. The decor is great but the service is meh. Every time I've been, the waitress seems overworked and only interested in flipping tables. The food is really good though. Their pizzas are my favorite. They have a wood burning pizza oven in the place and all their pizzas are absolutely delicious. Their menu is very large and can accommodate any diet. You can tell that they spent some money and intentionality on making this place look perfect. The drinks were devious. I got an on-tap strawberry mule that was super gingery which I loved. For my main course, I ordered the EV1 burger which is there veggie burger topped with super fresh ingredients. The flavors really popped off on this. This burger was accompanied with a massive plate of fries that would be impossible to finish. I dipped it in there roasted tomato aioli and ranch and I couldn't decide which I liked more (and that's saying a lot because I'm very much a ranch girl). I always want to stop at Vinsetta Garage when we visit the Detroit area. It's the kind of place that no matter who you go to dinner with, what their dietary constraints are, how picky they are, if they insist on cocktails or an extensive draft beer selection, or just want to suck down soda, this is the place. From vegan to vegetarian to gluten free to meat eaters, there's a selection of delightful and delicious options. The space is indeed a converted garage that they claim is the oldest garage east of the Mississippi. Might just be true. It's a great open space with a comfy vibe but can get noisy since it's always busy. But it's worth it. Their pizza and bread sticks are coal fired. Win. You can get smoked wings. Boom. I've been ordering one of their imaginative pasta bowls on recent visits and I'm addicted. Incredible. I love it. The menu is not exactly your typical bar menu. It's elevated for sure. I've taken one star off cause parking can be an issue since it's right on Woodward Ave and it can get loud. But that's a sign that people love it! You will too!! read more

Some of the best customer service! Seriously, I keep on saying this, but the Union restaurant group continues to hire amazing staff to work their restaurants. We ran into a few food and beverage mishaps today, but the sever went way above and beyond to accommodate and fix any issues which is why I continue to frequent these establishments. Today we came for lunch and there was no wait! Yay! We sat right down. They were out of my drink of choice, but I tried the rose, not bad. I wouldn't order it again, but it was a nice light lunchtime drink. We got the meatball pizza and the noodle burger pasta. The pizza here is consistently good. It is the right amount of cheesy greasiness of a good pie. The crust is tasty, and it's a nice size to have leftovers. The noodle burger is gooey and delicious, and comes with one of my favorite side salads. I love the crunch of the chickpeas they sprinkle on top. It's amazing enough to order as your whole meal. We are big eaters, but always come home with leftovers. Their portions are decent. You won't leave hungry, but the question is did you leave enough room for dessert. We did not partake in dessert today, unfortunately, because they had a brownie pot pie that sounded amazing. Their food menu has stayed quite consistent, but their desserts seem to rotate which is nice. I've loved everything I've tried in the past. They make killer shakes, and their ice cream is tops!!! Honestly pretty disappointed in my most recent experience at Vinsetta, especially as a long time customer. The food was fine, but not for the current price point. A basic burger was $21, with fries being an upgrade. So $23+ for an okay burger and fries. So for 2 burger meals, and 2 drinks, it ended up costing my husband and I $70. It just didn't feel like a $70 meal to us. Maybe $50 at best. I remember back a decade ago a burger was $10 and you'd have to wait at least an hour for a table. The vibe was better, as well as their beer selection. I'm honestly not sure what happened, but for the current price point, I will sadly not be going back. read more

Very loud (cant hear people across from you talk) poor service (i.e where is our waiter?), terrible parking (one block away on a residential street) for my only sit down experience which was a shame. I loved the ambience but everything else was sorely lacking. Granted, there was some sort of event nearby that had drawn an unusually large and unexpected crowd I was told. The place was absolute chaos, but im being told by many locals who love it that it was definitely an off night. So ill give benefit of the doubt. The only thing I enjoyed was the Union Mac n Cheese. The steak dish was almost inedible. Wrong cook, tasted like only grill char. They gave us some gift cards, but I handed em off to my parents who live close by. Recently went back for the Paczki donuts we special ordered and I will say they were phenomenal and they kept really well. They can accommodate two people as well as 12, the wait can be a little long so put on your patience cap and take a seat. The wait staff is friendly, but busy. I had the lamb burger (without the bun) and an order of onion rings! The lamb was cooked well and it was juicy! The onion rings were massive and delicious! 5 stars for Vinsetta Garage's cheese curds ALONE (Ellsworth Creamery cheese curds, Badass Beer-battered with a side of Red Hot blue cheese). But anyway, we ended up at Vinsetta because I was craving a serious burger. It's kind of funny that I pass by Vinsetta ALL the time because I frequent the Trader Joe's across the street, but I've NEVER noticed it for some reason. The classic car garage ambience is awesome and I love how dedicated they are to it - even the servers/cooks wear mechanic shirts. We both had the VINSETTA BURGER (The classic double, two 4 oz. Vinsetta blend patties cooked through, stacked with two slices of American cheese, L.T.O. (lettuce, tomato, onion), sliced dill pickles, Woodshop MI maple bacon, Vinsetta Burger Sauce) - I got my bun-less (which I thought would come in a lettuce wrap at least but literally just without a bun on a platter - hello fork & knife!) but the pretzel buns on my fiance's vinsetta looked amazing. It was a lovely burger with great charboiled flavor. Super flavorful and fatty with the cheese AND bacon - I loved every bite of it. I upgraded my side to WOODSHOP OLD SCHOOL SLAW (basically a red cabbage slaw that's not TOO mayo-y) but I wish I stuck with the chips they come with. I love homemade kettle chips like that and Vinsetta's version is fantastic. I didn't save room for dessert but my friend mentioned a fantastic chocolate gelato that I missed out on. Came here with a buddy after catching a Tigers game. Really love the interior of the space (a retrofitted body shop), hitting home the car theme. Car buffs will dig it. Street parking in the neighborhood. Sunday at 5p was quite packed. My friend recommended the burgers. The pizza looked better as I walked past tables, but I wasn't in the mood. I probably should have ordered pizza anyway, because the burger was very disappointing. The bun was soft and the toppings all seemed fresh, but the meat lacked flavor and was on the drier side of the juicy spectrum. Perhaps a tad overcooked for a "medium" order. I can't quite pinpoint what was the breaking point, but as a whole, the flavors just kind of melded together into a heaping pile of meh. I also ordered a vanilla shake - the vanilla flavor was rich, but the size was disappointing (no refill tin) and it could have been a bit thicker. Sadly, my fries were the best part of my meal. Service was ok as we didn't have to wait too long to order or receive items, but our waiter didn't have the best bedside manner, if you will. Too cool for school, I guess. It was also disappointing that on a Sunday they only had the national NFL game on TV. I asked to put the Rams game on but I guess they didn't have access. My girlfriend and I anticipated going to this place all week, and when it Friday came around, we couldn't contain our composure. And let me tell you, Vinsetta Garage did not disappoint. While their signature dishes are their burgers, I'd say the true stars are the sides. Their onion rings were massive and well-seasoned. Their tomato aioli dipping sauce complimented them greatly. Their fries were hand-cut and fresh. And the KING of them all was the Mac & Cheese. I believe it was a blend of 4 cheeses and had a nice bubbly crisp around the edges. I know I'm probably overselling it, but it was beyond perfect in my opinion. The Macon Bacon Burger was good, but I'm pretty sure they have much better burgers on tap, and I will definitely try another next time we visit. Food aside, I love the aesthetic.
