Not my first time at Vinsetta Garage but might have been my best of 3 or 4 visits. This place is usually very busy and parking is hard to come by. We hit after the main lunch time so it was a little less chaotic than normal which was appreciated. My coworker and I both had burgers. He had the 3am which featured the half-pound Vinsetta blend patty, Swiss, Woodshop MI maple bacon, topped with a fried cage-free egg & crispy fried onion strings, and Sriracha mayo. He also had a side of chips and a chocolate sundae. He reported the sundae was very good. He's had many visits before and suggests he's had most of the menu at one point or another. My burger was the Shop Towel which had a 8oz Vinsetta Blend patty, cooked medium, with Woodshop pulled pork, SC mayo, house-pickled chilis, pepperjack, and spicy fried onions. It was a hot mess but quite tasty. I also had the famous and quite good Union Station Mac and cheese. We both enjoyed the decor and homage to the Motor City. I love the industrial furniture too. What a place! The interior is most definitely a garage. I love the aesthetic! Super cool, big open spaces. Awesome. The service has always been great here. It feels like they get treated well and don't hate their jobs; kind of a foreign concept, no? Seriously, we've always been treated well here and the service is exceptional. The food is also exceptional. The cheese curd appetizer is probably one of the best I've ever had with a light and airy batter, perfectly fried with and the curd itself is just so flavorful. Big recommendation on the mac and cheese. It actually has flavor and the noodles aren't cooked to mush. The dinner sized order is worth every penny, but the portion is HUGE. You'll probably take it home and eat leftovers for the next two days. No joke. The burger is a contender for my top 5 in the area. A really nice blend, and cooked to a medium well. Really flavorful beef. I had the Vinsetta burger which is kind of like their version of a Big Mac w/ bacon. It is a big burger, especially when you add all of the toppings, but it was manageable and didn't fall apart or get sloppy. Get the seeded bun. Also, HUGE bonus for having hand cut fries that are crispy. Well done Vinsetta! You understand potatonomics. The pizzas all looked good and we had a Vinsetta blanco pie. The crust was light and airy with a good crisp to it and not much flop. Really well baked in their awesome looking pizza oven. No complaints. Make a reservation or you will most likely wait at any time of the day. If you do end up waiting, it's totally worth it. One of my favorite spots in the area, hands down! read more

This is such a fun spot. The food and service never disappoint. The cheese curd app is the best. Flavorful cheese curds (aka squeaky cheese!) in a light batter, fried up and served with a house made Red Hot bleu cheese. This dip is more like "good ranch" with some bleu cheese and Red Hot. Not super spicy, but enough to give it a good kick. Even if you are not a bleu cheese fan (ME), try it! The Mac and Cheese is so good but the serving is massive. You can easily share this. On the last visit my brother and I split the side order portion and it was still enough for each of us to have a good serving without ruining the rest of our meal. Great Dinner on the Cheap? That's simply not true. This place used to be much much better than it is now! Food is NOT CHEAP! Service is Lacking- not welcoming, wait-wait-wait for ordering and food! Quality of food is below average... thin dry burgers, not thick and juicy... salads should include more than just veggies for $20! Vinsetta needs new training for management. Unique setting with the garage style flair. Parking is minimal. Kind of bummed the pizza is still on the menu and the pizza guy never seems to be working because we do enjoy their pizza but couldn't get any. The Mac n cheese is a huge portion and cooked with a nice cheesy crust on top. Good blend of cheeses and perfectly cooked/baked noodles. The Vinsetta burger (without a bun) was pretty decent, albeit a smidge over cooked. The homemade chips were a bit bland - I rarely add salt to my food and these needed a lot of salt. We were seated & water brought to table. we were told that our waitress would be with us shortly. While we were waiting I watched 3 waitresses walk by more than once with no acknowledgment . I would give the food five stars but the service here is probably a three. Twelve of us gathered to celebrate a birthday at 7pm on a Thursday. We called for reservations but we were told the semi private room required a deposit so we did not book that. When five of us arrived they would not sit us until the entire party was present. I get this rule but there were plenty of tables and the private room remained empty the entire time. Just set everything off on the wrong foot because we could have preordered appetizers and drinks. Service was very slow, we would drink twice the amount of someone bothered to check in on us. Finally at 9pm we got our bills without prompting. Have been meaning to try this place for the longest time and have heard very mixed reviews. Finally me and my husband stopped in while cruising Woodward it was Saturday around 7pm there was no wait and we were seated right away. Place has a cool old mechanic garage vibe with open windows and good view to car watch. Our waitress was super knowledgeable and recommended drinks and the menu items. Chicken tikka fries was just spicy enough with a nice cheese curd topping hit the spot. Kid's meal chicken tenders were a bit underwhelming - 2 run of the mill bar style tenders, $3 up charge for French fries and limited dipping sauce options (no BBQ, no ranch). If I could give this place 50+ stars, I would! First of all - the concept of having a restaurant in an old garage is just too cool. The ambience of this place is so genuine and authentic - from the vintage truck on display outside, to the old school gas pumps, the decor and open floor plan - it all just WORKS. Needless to say, we were pumped to eat here! We stumbled upon this place after taking our kids to the zoo, and found that the reviews were spot on. We were greeted immediately, and the hostess was so friendly and welcoming. Because we had a stroller with us, she sat us in a section that had ample space and privacy. She didn't have to do that - but I appreciated her thoughtfulness. Our server was just as nice (her name escapes me now - I think it was "Ash"?) and was very knowledgeable about the menu. We decided upon the lamburger and vinsetta burger. We halved both burgers and shared, and we both thought they were equally good. The lamb was cooked to perfect and had picked onions! Such a nice touch. We also had mixed drinks that were super tasty and refreshing (I had a slushy of some sort) and the dessert we had was also very good (a mash up of a pop tart/pie with ice cream). The pandemic safety caused some changes, including taking limited reservations for certain times instead of doing all walk in seating. Also a 90 minutes limit for the tables. No valet parking and their side parking lot is for curbside pickup only. Menu is a little shorter but still wide ranging. Pizza and burgers are their main choices but salads, bowls, and a couple entrees. Good choice of sides, appetizers, and desert. My group enjoyed a range of choices. Pizza, veggie burger, Mac and cheese, salmon with broccolini. 2 of us even ordered dessert. Service was good. The surroundings is a car lovers dream. This place is such a vibe. It feels like I'm in an FX drama. The staff that's cultivated feels like a ragtag group of actors. I feel like I'm in a story of a man running a failing racing garage that couldn't pursue his passion any longer after a racing accident that took out his back. To keep the business open and his staff motivated he shifted his passion to cooking to keep up the morale of everyone else still working at the garage while he still supervised the making of their ultimate race car. After they won the big race the staff all thought it was their turn to keep the new chef's passion alive and they let him teach them all how to cook. The aesthetic feels like a Hollywood set version of what I just described. I had that ham Mac and cheese. It was fantastic. I marveled at how good a lot of the other food coming out of the kitchen looked. They let a goofy dude in a bunch of gay buttons and a pikachu hat work there dressed like that and I thought that was beautiful. There's something really beautiful to how the staff is curated here. Overpriced and overhyped. For years I've been recommended this place and you always see queues out the door when you pass by on Woodward. Decided to give it a try with my mom recently and was very underwhelmed. The prices they charge for burgers and basic items are absurd. Are they good? Yes. Are they 25 dollar good? No. You can get a burger of comparable quality from red robin for substantially cheaper with unlimited fries and lemonade refills on the side. Service is also underwhelming. I will say, they gave us a military discount which substantially cut the price of the meal so I wasn't as mad as I would've been had I spent the full price. But just in principle this is disappointing. I haven't tried their other dishes, but I don't think I'll be back to do so. read more

Vinsetta is known for their mac and cheese - and boy does it never disappoint! I've only ever had burgers here and it's a great spot for that! I enjoy sitting at the bar and watching the kitchen. If you walk in, chances are you're more likely to get a quicker spot at the bar if you're up for it. You can watch the kitchen and see all the food coming out which I highly recommend...for obvious reasons. Their bowl entrees look very good and was told they're a must-try if you aren't in the mood for a burger or mac. Vinsetta Garage is a staple alone to at least come and check out the atmosphere. Vinsetta avoids the worst possible rating by at least being reasonably affordable. We got out for under $150 including drinks for a party of six. That's unheard of in this day and age. But beyond that, the best you can hope for on the menu is mediocrity to marginally above average. This ranged from a smash burger (dry, but the chips were good) to an above average chili flank steak to a taco trio, of which one was actively good, one was okay, and one was not great, to a kale salad (respectable and miraculously not over-dressed). Service was OK-- our server was not too friendly but not unfriendly. Just seemed really over their job. The last straw for me is that Vinsetta in 2020 demolished four houses to expand its parking lot, as though it wasn't bad enough to have a car-obsessed business. There is surprisingly little that people won't do in this automobile Mecca to just increase and prolong our addiction to cars that are bankrupting us and killing the planet and each other, but I guess if you're shooting statins with your dinner, this isn't necessarily at the top of your mind anyway. read more

Vinsetta Garage is a solid American food joint, known for the mac and cheese and burgers. It is a popular spot, so often times there can be a bit of a wait especially on a Friday or Saturday. The vibes in this old garage are great, the really lean into the garage / car aesthetic. I do really love this spot, the food is always really good and their mac and cheese is always a hit for me. I usually either get a burger (I love their burger sauce) or the mac and cheese dinner. My biggest gripe as many have mentioned before me is the price, it's $25 for a burger and fries and I just can't justify that. It's a really good restaurant, and I do highly recommend, it's just not a place I will be going to super often. read more

The last time I ate here was back in 2013 but I cannot review that experience, since it was so long ago. My friends and I ended eating here last night (Saturday evening). There was a 45-minutes wait since it was busy-busy but we waited in our car and chatted, which went by quickly. Once our table was ready, they texted my friend to let her know our table was ready. The service was great and the place is pretty clean. Appetizer, we had the Disco Fries. They were good, the gravy was rich but not overbearing (too much). I did not care much for Ellsworth cheese curds, it didn't do much to the dish and felt like I was eating rubber.. Meal, I had the EV1 (Vegetarian burger, they can make it vegan upon request). I really enjoyed the burger, everything was propionate but the burger can get messy. I do like the side of chips, which they had a lemony taste...maybe it was vinegar - lol. Overall, this place was good and pretty cool. I love the fact it is in an old garage and has such great character and interior. Would I recommend this place to friends and family members?
