Had brunch with a group of friends here & it was a perfect choice. We were seated immediately and given our fresh fruit platter, assorted breads & spreads. It took quite a bit for the steaks to come out( 3 of us ordered the same item) but they were good. Downside was the toast being a bit hard. Even my friend who got the Avocado toast said so. I have been dinning at the Vintage Press for 40 years. The food has always been outstanding, not so the last couple of times. I had to send my meal back as it was way under done, rare instead of medium. The chef prepared a new plate for me which was done properly. I ordered cheesecake for dessert, one of my favorites, but was disappointed again. It was overdone and clumpy, very dry as well. As for the service, not so good. I made a reservation at the time it opened, 11:30 and when I checked in, the hostess was very snarky and tried to seat me at a small table in the doorway of the bar area. I asked for another of the 15 tables available. Hmmm. The waitress took 20 min to acknowledge we were there and a hour before we got our food. The whole process took 2 1/2 hours for lunch! It was my friend's birthday and she loved the experience. They did put a candle on her dessert and made it special. I was happy with that. I will give them some grace for make it through the last few difficult years, but please get your quality control back. read more

Not sure why but the food was not as good as it normally is. Maybe because it was Mother's Day and they had too many customers. I hope this was not because they fire the chef. I will go back 1 more time just to make sure, and I better be impressed by the food, and service. Because the service was slow I had to ask for water to get water. I'm not gonna complain about the food, it's quality or portions. But... when I drop over $200 for two people I want my experience to match my expectations with service. VP servers are disappointing at best. Maybe it's training or maybe it's just fine dining doesn't include service that matched VP in the past and now just rides that rep without delivering in the present. Our drinks were brought to the table just before apps, in their original packaging and 8oz Diet Coke and a Triple Blond beer brewed in Bakersfield Glass for the Diet Coke NO chilled glass for the can of beer, server says I'll bring a chilled glass for your beer, sorry, 10 minutes later! WTF? The entire experience shifts into why I ever thought this place was worth $ or time! on the way out I hear the women at the table next to ours ask the server after they just had their apps delivered "can you ask our server where our cocktails are?" I almost started laughing out load VP never again rest assured never again! read more

This is for take out. Food eaten in Bakersfield about 90 minutes after pick up. Ordered 2 old favorites to take advantage of a household member who was up in Visalia. I was mindful that not all items work well in take out, but....order the stuffed pumpkin appetizer because it's that time of year. I reheated in the oven. It just seemed that it would be better with more sauce so I added heavy cream to the sauce, mixed it and poured it over during heating. Not as good as on site dining but still worth it. Note: in the past if I've eaten there in the fall, I ALWAYS get a few pumpkins to go for the next day. Also ordered the mushroom puff pastry. Heated the puff pastry in the oven and warmed the mushrooms with cream sauce in a pan, then poured it over the heated puff pastry. Wow. just as good as I remember. God willing and the authorities permitting, I'll be having a martini at the bar soon. My children who picked up the order commented, "The place looked so cool and this food is good. I took my dad out to dinner here for his birthday. The ambiance was perfect. It was quiet with soft lighting and a wonderful table setting. The service was courteous, efficient and overall excellent. Went here for the first time today for lunch. Walking in for the first time I really enjoyed the decor. It was beautifully vintage. It was decorated for Christmas which made the atmosphere so festive. We also meet Mr. David Vartanian. He was really pleasant and welcoming. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food had a beautiful presentation and tasted fantastic. Now vegan friends, this restaurant is not really vegan friendly per say. There was two item on the lunch menu that We can eat (with some modifications). Eggplant sandwich with a side green salad. I will say the fries that came with the sandwich were delicious! Extra thin and crispy. Delicious. The food my co workers ordered looked beautiful and they all raved about how good the food was. I did take a picture of their signature stuffed pumpkin which my co-worker ordered. Really cute presentation. I want to take my spouse there just to check out the decorations and vibe. Enjoyable fine dining experience. My New York Steak was up there with my best steakhouse experience. Perfectly charred and crisp on the outside and juicy when medium rare. My wife ordered the slow cooked lamb shank which came off the bone and packed with flavor. When you walk into the restaurant it feels like you've gone back in time to the 1930's. Everything from the decor to the waiters uniforms made for a nostalgic experience. Looking forward to our next special occasion. read more

I absolutely love the VP. I've been going here for years but unfortunately the last few times I've gone the service and food has been subpar. The service has been extremely slow and lacking. I don't blame the waiters or waitresses for this. It seems like they are understaffed and they are taking on way too many tables to adequately manage and give the attention needed to guests. I can tell how hard the staff is working and am always grateful for their hard work as staffing the restaurant isn't their responsibility. I am hoping this changes because I always loved coming here. My visits don't feel like they're worth the money and I could go somewhere else with better overall service for the price. read more

Vintage Press is Vintage Tasty! This was my first time to visit Vintage Press and I was very surprised. The restaurant decorum is elegant, and festive. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the food was absolutely bursting with flavor. I had the pistachio crusted salmon and it was the best prepared and tastiest salmon that I have had in a long time. It was delicious! The prices are on the high side, but it is worth it. Very disappointed. Went for brunch with a group on a Sunday. Was not very busy at all. When drink orders were taken, Everyone except my wife and I had their drinks. Server came around for refills and realized the mistake. Forgot a second time, causing to politely remind her again. After a long wait for our meals, my wife's order was wrong. My burger which I ordered medium/rare was chard and dry. Something you'd expect at denny's or some other chain, not a "high end" restaurant". I went here despite my own reservations about this filthy place. They have been in trouble with Alcohol Beverage Control due to being warned multiple times about the cleanliness of their bar. Many of the liquor bottles were found to be contaminated with dead bugs on 3 different visits by authorities.. Instead of excepting responsiblity and fixing the issue, the owner complained to the city claiming he was being bullied. So much for a high end resturant. read more

Taken to our table and service was average, food was fine. VP should put some of their over priced dinners income toward clean up and up keep and training of their employees. My friend's steak was over cooked but she was given a new one promptly. For the 8 of us the total came out to be $600. This place use to be my favorite. And I mean absolute hands down favorite. I love to go here to have a perfect lemon drop, have a nice valentines with my girlfriends, birthday celebrations, and brunches... amazing. However the last few times (especially the last time), I was so embarrassed. I was talking the VP up. Telling my date all about it and how wonderful it is. Well we went... and it was okay.... Decided maybe it was just an off day, end of masks and all that. So we went again, we we're sat outside (which is fine, we did make reservations though), by the front entrance, where you'd think they'd have to go by you a million times so they'd remember you more... well, that was not the case. I was so embarrassed again. Apologize to my date over and over again for the staff's short cumming for the second time! I felt so stupid talking VP up and this happening. Idk what was happening...
