This wine shop is a small business and local wine store. It is right next to Vinyl Beer shop. I had never been to Vinyl wine until yesterday. And WOW they have soo many different wines to choose from not all ones I have seen before. Some of the bottle of wines have funny and cute descriptions about them. I had fun reading alot of them. And to me the prices are not bad here. The guy who works here was super nice and helpful. I did not catch his name though. This really is a great spot to browse for interesting wines. They also have some liquor and canned cocktails to go. If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping in. read more

Live on this block and usually come here a couple times a month. Wine selection is good - they really like funky natural wines which aren't my thing but they clearly label them which I appreciate. This weekend staff has been less than optimal - had a very uncomfortable encounter where we pointed out to the salesperson that our wine which had 2 of the exact same wine on display for 70 bucks in two different places- however it was ringing up for a higher price. She came to even check out the label on both twice, and though she could see it, she still basically accused us of switching the label to try and get that price and made us wait to the side while she checked with the manager and never heard back while she checked multiple people out. Will be uncomfortable to go back here honestly. This is their error prone labeling system on expensive wines, please don't blame the customer for your errors. read more

Nice small wine store. Most bottles are moderately priced. Some of the little description labels they put out make me cackle out loud. My only issue is that they - as is the trend - seem to have a real hang up against oaky chardonnays. If you see a guy behind the counter with dark skin, he's the best. *reviewed during COVID restrictions* I wanted to pick up some wine for myself and found this little wine store. They have a notice up front that states that they only let in one customer at a time. Luckily for me, I was the only one there. I stepped in and you can only approach the threshold of the entrance, in an effort to maintain social distancing. I spoke to a wonderful staff member (appropriately masked) who asked what I was looking for (a Cabernet Sauvignon) and what price range ($20-$30). They also asked if I was having it with food or not, and picked out a wine that was light for the summer monthe. They brought out a 2018 Cab by a California-based company called Ground Effect Wine Company that cost about $25. If you pay by card, the reader is right next to you on a table to make the transaction as contactless as possible. The wine verdict? Amazing. Smooth, and went really nice with my dinner. read more

I can not come for Vinyl. They have treated me well. It was an inside gag between my friends that this place was pretentious and overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it is. (Overpriced on occasion, I will give it that.) But they're usually NICE and pretentious. Like the warm comforting touch of Frasier and Niles tutting at you but still helping you get the best deal. Like once a month, I get someone that's kind of a complete asshole but the other cashiers make up for him so it's alright. The place is small, but packed with stuff. If you don't feel like asking for help, they have straight forward signs that can help you lead the way. It's like a sterner version of Trader Joe's wine shop. If you're lucky, you may get one of the cashiers that's super friendly and willing to hear live story about your wine choice. I was on the fence about reviewing this place but my last two experiences made my bite the bullet. First experience had a cashier that was quite funny. (I love a good alcoholic joke.) And more importantly, we bought a new bottle based on a suggestion and it ended up tasting awful, we brought it back thinking it had skunked but turns out we just had poor people taste buds. The cashier was very chill, didn't make fun of our shitty taste buds (At least in front of our faces lol) and let us pick another bottle for free. Like wow, super nice. Especially since we were stressed about not having a receipt. If you're chill enough to potentially be judged or hear a snarky comment -- then it's a good wine shop. Was just getting off the 6 train when I caught a glimpse of the shop awning and decided a bottle of wine wasn't a bad idea! Upon entry, I got a woody wine cellar vibe where wines are shelves in wooden crates stacked on top one another and organized by region. The price range is wide from bottles for as low as $8.99 and as high as $40-50 for older bottles and top shelf alcohol. There are records shelved on the walls, likely for decorative purposes since no music was playing when I entered. Ended up buying a $12 bottle of South African wine (under appreciated region, try a bottle if you haven't already) and was out in seconds. Very cool spot, unpretentious and affordable. read more

This place has a nice selection of wines with some accurate descriptions written on tags around the bottle necks. I can always find something I'd like to drink here. A big plus is that it is right near where I live. HOWEVER, despite that the staff seems nice, they have clearly never received any customer service training at all. Go to wine stores like Mr. Wright, Grape Collective, where the staff exude warm, helpful, postive energy and in comparison the staff here seem like they are half asleep. This is the owner's/manager's fault, not the staff's! If it were located next to one of the stores mentioned above, I would probably never shop here. See how much customer service matters? PS A friend emailed the store with a question about it's name. Wouldn't that be a nice opportunity to build a relationship? But no reply. Unlike another wine store that shall remain nameless (whatever, it was K&D on Madison), Vinyl combines great wines with relatively friendly service. Full disclaimer: I'm not a wine connoisseur by any means, I've only tried the Moscatos (which are basically carbonated fruit juice with a tinge of alcohol) offered here, and I've never felt a particular urge to try something new, but the people working the counter have always given sound recommendations for when I'm buying for a friend. Vinyl also offers regular tastings, if you're on the fence about a specific type of wine or if you're just in the mood for getting something new. As a beer girl, I don't know the first thing about buying wine and have no luck deciphering the lingo (full-bodied, dry, bright, wtf?, etc). I'll often just purchase whichever reasonably-priced bottle has the coolest label. Fortunately Vinyl speaks my language (literally) and has attached little hanging tags to each bottle with simple notes like, "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" and "Perfect pre-game wine." Not only did these notes make me feel a bit like Alice In Wonderland, but it made it infinitely easier to decide what to purchase for a fancy brunch party. As proof to the accuracy of these tags (basically SparkNotes of wine), everyone ended up raving about the flavour... which has never, ever happened with any of my snazzy labeled bottles. Interestingly enough, the staff wasn't super friendly or eager to help, but I guess that's what the little notes are for? read more

I've now been to Vinyl Wine 4 times. They have a great selection and a great price range. They have wine from my favorite region in Spain- Priorat! They also have a terrific selection of wines under 10$! They also have the trendy wines in cans, which is kind of great, hipster as it is, let's be honest, it's kind of great. Why only 2 stars? B/c I don't need the attitude. You can't tell how rich someone is by how much they spend in your store. And you can't only treat your rich customers well. Oh wait. Today I bought a $25 bottle instead of an $8 bottle and you and your employee still couldn't be bothered. I guess $25 isn't much for wine, but you'd think a store with a great selection of wines under $10 would respect a bargain hunter. Maybe it's something about my looks? I'd hate to think the man who is always here (the owner? I don't know) is that awful. I lived for a long time in Europe. I know things are different here, and I respect that, but it pains me to spend more than 7€ on a bottle (and that's an exceptional bottle)! Also, who cares? You're making a sale. No need to be so incredibly dismissive and rude. Why? And if people come in with "basic" questions as my partner did the first time I was here, share your passion about wine and educate. Don't judge and condescend. I'm going to walk the few blocks more to West Coast Wines from now on. Yes- maybe the employees don't have the same level of wine knowledge (or maybe they do?) but the man at Vinyl can't be bothered to share his, or be polite in any interaction anyway. A terrifically eclectic selection of wines. If you've grown tired of the norm, fear not--this place will definitely have something you've never heard of. The staff is very knowledgeable (ask for BearClaw), the atmosphere is spot-on cool, the space is kept spotlessly clean, and I truly dig how uncluttered they've managed to keep the place. In most Manhattan wine stores, it's nearly impossible to turn around or take a deep breath for fear of knocking half the stock to the floor, but you could dance a jig in the middle of Vinyl Wines. The coolest wine store on Lexington between 96th and 97th street. Definitely. I walked in on Friday afternoon, to grab a bottle for a dinner I was attending later that evening. The place is small and definitely won't necessarily have that specific bottle you are looking for, but they may have something better. The guy working in the store was doing a wine tasting with a vendor and jamming out to some good tunes. When I asked him for a recommendation, he hopped right out from behind the counter and had some very good advice. He definitely wasn't trying to sell me on something expensive, and I settled on a $9 Montepulciano which was delicious. Only bad thing I have to say is that some of the people I was doing dinner with are Kosher, and they only had 3 types of wine (cheapest $17), so not the best for Kosher wine. read more

We came in for specific champagne (Moet) but despite the fact their 'house' champagne is Tattingers, the friendly manager (?)) persuaded us to try a sparkling made the champagne way (after all it is the region that gives it the name nothing else) as well as some interesting Sav blancs (Malborough region NZ Is my fav). We have yet to try them hence 3 stars but his knowledge and attitude deserves 3 so far! Quirky name and good atmosphere inside too! read more

Vinyl Wine just introduced me to an incredible white wine from the Finger Lakes region of New York State. It is a 2007 Rkatsiteli from Dr. Konstantin Frank cellars. This wine is a palate orgasm - superb. This wine could become an obsession with me - but I will also try the other unbelievable but hitherto unknwn by me wines of the Finger Lakes. When you get out of the 96th street subway station, make sure you make a beeline for Vinyl Wine. The staff here are very friendly and they will not pressure you into buying wine. You can ask them questions, they will help you, then they will leave you alone, which I like. I hate it when you ask about a wine, and they pick out the expensive ones and try to make you buy it. I needed plastic cups and they even provided those for me. Good selection and awesome staff. Also they are pet friendly! read more

I'm a wine enthusiast from California and I love this place. It's a few minute walk from my apartment and in East Harlem this is appreciated. A mix of upscale and more affordable (and still great) wines! I've bought a variety here. I got a fabulous rosé champagne from Portugal and I loved it. I got a Paso Robles Cab called Broadside and I LOVED it! They have a 'discount' shelf with ~$10 wines which are fun to check out. The guy who has checked me out is 'less than friendly' though. I am not sure where this wine store was located before (okay, looked it up, 99th and Lex), but it definitely just opened up at its current location about a week or two ago. And thank the lord! The neighborhood was in desperate need of a great, eclectic wine shop (particularly one that chooses a Wine of the Week and a Vinyl of the Week!). K&D is fine, but while their selection is vast, it is not so inspired and the staff pretty much remains behind the counter. Vinyl, on the otherhand, has a small but well-curated collection of wines, with a cool hipster (no for real) dude, chilling with his vinyl ready to help. There's real, focused wine love here, not just a store trying to sell whatever's popular for the moment. Also, they've got all their wines posted on the website and the average price is about $15, which is pretty fantastic, considering how dynamic the selection is. Super excited that I can dash over to Vinyl and grab an $18 bottle of Dr. Frank's Rkatsiteli or a $10 bottle of Zestos Malavar (cheap, perfect) or choose from Grunet Veltliners, Torrontes, Albarinos, and other yummy options. Also, free delivery...for those days when you want your wine, but don't want to leave your house. read more

I live in the neighborhood and I actually saw them constructing the place from scratch and just completing renovations around 2 weeks ago!
