This is my new local liquor store. I was a bit surprised by the bullet proof glass at first, but friendly-looking souls are invited right in to check out their selection. Their wine selection, while on the smaller side, is pretty decent, and I have no fear of finding something I like. (Plus, a smaller selection means a better chance of my learning more about wine, as far as I'm concerned!) It's pretty straight forward and does the trick! A nice range of prices, as well. read more

If stores were reviewed solely on first impressions, Adel Wine & Liquor would get 1/2 star. The ubiquitous bulletproof glass is only offset by the shady clientele (thus prompting the bulletproof glass, thus prompting the shady clientele ... [infinite loop]). But that's just the surface. Behind the proverbial curtain is an incredibly helpful and delightfully honest staff that know their fine liquors better than the location's appearance would let on. They don't force you to stare through the glass and squint to make out the top shelf items -- you are invited back and treated to whatever advice you may need. As I mentioned in my review of Trejo Liquors (Adel's beautiful but vapid antithesis), this is what makes a liquor store great. You should be able to arrive at a liquor store with only a passing knowledge of what you want and be able to leave with something sure to be your new favorite. It's hard to escape the ghetto ambiance, but if there's one place in the area that you can trust, this is it. read more

Came here once to buy liquor while I was in the area. Prices are pretty good/cheap here, which is nice. There's a glass wall/partition, but when he gave me my alcohol, he left the door open to process my card (I guess I don't look like someone who'd start trouble). The guy working there was very nice and patient while I decided what I wanted. Would definitely come back here if I'm at my nearby friend's apartment. read more

Yesss!!! They are open!!!! Wanted some wine on a Saturday night during this pandemic and they are OPEN!!!! They are so sweet also. Wonderful couple keeping themselves safe and their customers. They even put a sign at the door to ensure social distancing. Great place! read more

This is definitely a staple in the community. It's not a high end looking store but the gentlemen that work here are super nice and will make suggestions based on what you are looking for (if you have an idea of what you want.) I personally don't drink but they'll have what we need for events and they haven't let me down. The only reason why I didn't give them the final star is because they didn't have a particular wine I was looking for. Other than that they are wonderful. There is street parking but inky if you're lucky. You may have to circle the neighborhood for a while. The M7 and M11 are right across the street on the downtown side but there are many choices on mass transportation. read more

At first it looks like your average liquor store with bulletproof glass and every type of booze you might desire. But if you don't know exactly what you're crave is, they will invite you in to browse their extensive wine and champagne selection. The liquor store has been there for as long as any of the locals can remember. The family owned and run store is a staple of the community. The friendly service and great recommendations have been right on every time so far. read more

I was a little taken aback by the bulletproof glass when I first walked in but the two gentleman in the store when I went on a weekday afternoon were very helpful and accommodating. They were quick to suggest boxed wines for me and the prices were decent. This is a good neighborhood place for your standard bottle of wine on any night of the week. read more

At Adel's you will find a friendly staff, (not snotty as some wine people are) and knowledgeable advice so why not going through the glass door where helpful gentlemen and a gentle lady will let you browse quietly or guide you if you need help. You will find wines and liquors from all over the world, in small and big containers, bubbly elixirs, sweet syrups for your cocktails and somebody who will open you bottle if you are going to the park and have forgotten your corkscrew. I doesn't hurt either to support a small business owned by a family who has been in the neighborhood since the dawn of time, when businesses needed the "bullet proof glass" which is nowadays a tool to keep the bottle at a constant temperature. read more

The main advantage was that they stayed open late on a rainy night when others had closed early. I normally go to a great store right around the corner, Martin Brothers, but they closed early. Too bad. This place is one of those with bullet proof barriers. They looked at us when we walked in, and invited us behind the glass to browse. The selections of wine were randomly organized. Loosely by country, no shelf by price system. Not many I recognized and I am a regular wine shopper. I found one wine I knew and liked. It was priced two dollars higher than I find it priced regularly, in other (better) stores. As we were getting out of the bullet proofed area and back into the area where you pay, an Afro-American guy came in. He was ignored by the three people behind the glass who had invited us to browse. As we paid for the purchases, he left. It doesn't take 3 people to take payment. I won't go back. read more

Best wine and spirit selection in the neighborhood; Adel's has been around for ages. Staff is super cool and great at recommending new things.
