The review from July 2011 is wrong. Viola's is open for business and thriving. They are a Los Alamos tradition. If you want something sexy and unique this is not the place. If you want basic, reliable and tasty food this is your kind of place. We have lived in town for about 16 years and did not visit this place much until about decade ago. Big mistake on our part. This is our favorite breakfast and lunch spot in town. We eat there at least three or four times per month. Occasionally we buy extra Red Chili for use at home on. The owners, Ronnie and Belinda Jaramillo, and their longtime staff are always ready with a friendly smile and fast service. Thing we like... Lunch specials during the week. We are partial to the Relleno on Mondays and the Carne on Fridays. Sopapillas are outstanding (get a couple of extra!) and probably the best within an hours drive of town. Fantastic red chili. Love those pancakes on Saturday morning. Lots of variety on the menu. Seeing all of our friends whenever we stop by. They say call us name when we arrive. Things we wish for... Not much... Things to know... The line gets bit long at the lunch rush so get there early or come later if you are have the flexibility. No worries though, the line usually moves quickly as the staff and kitchen get the food out fast. We usually get our food within 5 to 7 minutes of ordering and it is fresh and hot! I think they close at 2 pm during the week but we have occasionally come in at the last minute and they always take care of us. If it is crowded, see if the bar stools are open. If you are from out of town... Stop by for breakfast and lunch! We tip the wait staff here well beyond the norm. These are hard working, salt of the earth folks with families that treat us like family every time. They are there six days a getting it done. read more

Excellent breakfast and great help! I had two of my best friends join me and we all 3 had Huevos Rancheros with green chili and corn tortillas. The coffee and iced tea never emptied because our server was right on it! The atmosphere is that of a local dinner, very clean and inviting. A must try to anyone visiting Los Alamos, NM. read more

Service was fast but food was blah. Husband had Wednesday special, a Burrito with chicken, side of beans and posole with red chile all slopped together - very runny. I had the chicken quesadilla... very plain - tasteless chicken, cheese, dollop of sour cream with a few shredded pieces of lettuce and maybe a tablespoons worth of diced tomatoes. Lady at the cash register was very slow and had to check every bill to make sure it wasn't counterfeit. She wasn't very friendly either. Will not go back. read more

One of the better New Mexican restaurants I have tried.. Better than most of the New Mexican places in Santa Fe, many of which are overpriced tourist traps. Has a diner kind of feel.. Great for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.. Often quite crowded. read more

If you want fast food that doesn't taste like it, visit Viola's. The staff is friendly and the line out the door means nothing during lunch time. The chile is never too hot, but it is the tastiest around -- and you will never be ridiculed or laughed at for ordering wrong! Sports memorabilia from the customers line the walls inside, so it is always a treat to sit somewhere different. In fact, if you bring something in, it is most likely it will be put up with your name on it. The owners are there every day and we have noticed that a lot of the customers don't even need menus...which mean they have a lot of repeat business! A must visit when in Los Alamos!!!! read more

I'm local, so I am not tripped out by the converted KFC that now houses this restaurant. I'd only been to Viola's a couple of times over the years and found it to be just okay. However, a colleague turned me on to the Friday special--carne adovada--and it might be one of the best dishes in the state of NM. I work my schedule around the Friday special so I can be there at 11:00 when they start serving. I hope you enjoy it too, but please, leave some for me. read more

Came up to Los Alamos to visit the Manhattan Project National Historical Park and Bradbury Science Museum and, of course, had to have lunch! The volunteers at the Bradbury Science Mueum recommended Viola's and off we dashed to get there before the 2:00pm closing time! Both of us had the Navajo Taco Tuesday Special and weren't disappointed! It was served with green-style posole on the side- took mine home for dinner! And the sopapillia's are among the best I've eaten, light and tasty! read more

Really great green chile. Chunky vs. Puréed and just the right heat. Great little p,ace to stop after hiking in the area. Closes early so don't count on a late lunch. read more

Excellent coffee. I had a cup of pinto beans with green chile and a poached egg for breakfast. Tasty chile, medium-hot with a lot of flavor. Friendly service, and they kept my coffee cup filled. I will definitely be back. My breakfast, plus French toast for a friend, came to a whopping $13. read more

Stopped by Violas today on our way up to Jemez Springs and hoped to get an amazing 4 1/2 star meal. But instead we got rushed out in 20 minutes. We were told to finish up because they were closing. Not only did they have bad service, the food was NOT WORTH STOP even for the 15 minutes we were aloud to eat. read more

Good quick meals. People have their favorite breakfast burrito places. It's all in the potatoes. Viola's serves their potatoes diced and the chile sauce is always flavorful. Breakfast is only until 11 on the dot. seems like on the weekends it could be extended to brunch. Lunch is good and served within 5 minutes of ordering often. you can actually have a 30 minute lunch here. The only down side is when you're being rushed out if it's close to closing time and they aren't open for dinner or Sundays. (long ago they used to be.) read more

WOW. This place has most delicious food. The owner is a friendly guy and a Cowboys's fan (we won't hold it against him) had a small issue with the older waitress but no biggie, the food made up for her crankiness and getting my order wrong. The place is packed and has a long line but it moves quick. Next trip to Santa Fe may have to have a visit to Los Alamos. read more

Viola's has friendly and fast service, and low prices. However, the food is fairly boring. It's not fresh nor flavorful. I visited once and probably will not return. The restaurant was quite crowded. It appears to be popular. I have heard from other's who were similarly underwhelmed by lunch at Viola's that breakfast is much better. Most restaurants in Los Alamos are overpriced, so price is nice to see an affordable place that is not fast food. read more

If you go to the address on this website, you will never find this place. It hasn't been at the location shown on Google or any other search engine. They have been in their current location for 11 years now, so make note that Violas is in the old KFC building on Trinity. (Sorry, not sure of the address, no one has it correct) Wonderful food. They green chili soup with beans is about as good as it gets. Son in law went skiing two years ago and had breakfast, and said it was the best he had ever had. It's a small place so if you go for lunch, go a little early. read more

Viola's was absolutely wonderful. It was a highlight of our trip to Los Alamos. The food was cooked to perfection, the portions were big, and the service was quick and responsive. Went to Viola's recently for breakfast. Arrived shortly before 10:30, wasn't given a menu for nearly ten minutes. Upon ordering was told they don't do pancakes and french toast after 10:30. Had they taken our order in a timely fashion, it would have been before 10:30. Staff looked right at me waiting for someone to bring menus and ignored me. I'm guessing they were waiting for 10:30 to pass. I'm not really sure what the deal is with not serving pancakes or french toast past 10:30. They are only two of the simplest items to make in a kitchen. I had a breakfast burrito, which was decent enough, however their red chile is really watery and really bland. Definitely the worst red chile I've had in a while. The prices are pretty good, however they certainly reflect the quality of the food as well. read more

Well, I know people in the area are die- hard fans of this place. But to simply put it: I wasn't impressed at all. The prices are inexpensive, but the prices reflect the quality of the food as well. My breakfast burrito which cost $5.50 left me underwhelmed, it was pretty small. My red chile also tasted a bit watery. My lunch mate ordered a fried egg sandwich, which was literally an egg, toasted white bread and a slice of kraft cheese. For $6.50 she was a little angered at the price and lack of effort put into the food. Upon leaving, the woman at the cash register was cold and stark, almost a little rude. I wanted to come back to give it a second chance but because of the service I doubt I will. read more

Great local family run diner style restaurant. Mind-blowing sopapillas. Try the Huevos Rancheros for breakfast or even lunch.

The food at Viola's is really good the service could be improved upon a little bit however the worst part of the experience at Viola's is trying to pay the check the waitresses do not take your money you have to stand in line to check out the checkout line gets really long and there's only one cashier I think violas could really improve upon this by having the waitresses take your check and cash it out read more

Food was okay. I don't think I have ever had to pay for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant until I ate here. $3.50 for chips out of a bag was kind of expensive. If you want rice with your meal go someplace else because they don't have it here. read more
