We were in Santa Fe for the day. and wanted to grab a bite to eat. What was interesting is when we googled this place we initially saw pictures for what we would later find out was the Coyote Café located downstairs. We arrived on a Saturday at 3 PM and wore directed upstairs for food. The hostess inner phone. I guess she was not on the clock yet. She didn't even ask us if we were there for the café or the Cantina or explain that there are two different restaurants. She just immediately directed us upstairs once we said we were there to dine. We were told the café didn't open until 5 PM so we dined at the cantina. I kept it simple and ordered some chips and queso and a chicken quesadilla. I asked for onions thinking they would grill it and add it to my quesadilla but instead they just gave me a side of dice raw onions. That was a little disappointing. The quesadilla was okay but nothing to write home about. I ate one piece and left the rest. Not having the grilled onions in it, ruined the experience for me. Our server was Tom and he was pretty friendly and knowledgeable. My company patronized the bar, and Tom was very knowledgeable about the drinks and even spent some time giving us some information on the area since we were visiting from out of town. We expressed that we were killing time until the café opened downstairs because my company really wanted muscles and that was not on the menu in the Cantina, but it was on the menu in the café. I think the cantina is perfect if you're just looking for a place to have a few drinks and an appetizer, I wouldn't necessarily come here hungry trying to curb my appetite. If you're into enchiladas and tacos you'll enjoy it. It's not my preferred cuisine. I think it's also worth mentioning that we shared that it was my company's birthday, and Tom had some churros that came with a side of caramel and chocolate delivered to our table, which was a nice touch.

We were able to get seated right away for a Thursday lunch. The cantina outdoor patio was very cool. Our server was quick and helpful. My prickly pear margarita was delicious. Queso was velveeta, so that was a miss. I tried a traditional Frito pie, and it was pretty good.

Must try patio! Really delicious food. Sat on the patio at first, then it started raining and was easily moved inside. The drinks were delicious, mocktail and cocktail. My bf had the green chili burger with onion rings and he loved it. I ordered their nachos-- and the meat was super tender. It was flavorful throughout, honestly best nachos I've had.

The rooftop was nice. They can't really accommodate big parties on the rooftop so we all sat separately amongst four tables. The servers were very sweet. My friend had gotten the ceviche and in her second bite there was a long hair in the ceviche and in her mouth and just grossed her out for the rest of her meal. I had the Baja fish tacos and they were really yummy. They gave us a tres leches which was really good. The watermelon margarita and mojito were yummy.

Had a pre-dinner drink at Coyote Cantina before having dinner at the sister establishment next door. The Cantina gets quite busy around sunset for the view it provides. The beverages and appetizer were Ok and the service was a bit slow, in fairness they were *very* busy. All in all, everything was Ok.

We stopped by the rooftop cantina for a quick happy hour before dinner. The prickly pear margarita ($12) was sweet and refreshing and the Griddle Corn Cakes ($28) with shrimp were so flavorful and delightful. The vibes are fun and the music is bumping. A wonderful experience all around :)

What a colorful place! For a first time in Sante Fe, Coyote Cantina did NOT disappoint! I went with my good ole faithful of fish tacos because I always like to see - #1 what kind of fish is used, and #2, how battered is the fish? The mahi mahi was beautifully and lightly battered to allow the slaw and mango slices to shine through. The tortillas held their own too. I definitely took one home to eat for breakfast, because who doesn't like a fish taco with a fried egg in the morning!? Overall I loved the servers, they're so quick and attentive. Also, shoutout to the Hostesses!

Good vibe in this rooftop bar. We sat at the bar and were well taken care of. We had a couple beers, and a couple small plates: Empanadas Fritas and Rooftop Nachos. The empanadas had a very tender, very flaky crust, and delicious fillings. The chimichurri was a nice addition. The nachos were huge, with delicious toppings. Don't miss this place

Coyote Café Cantina: When a Longtime Flame Goes Cold I've been coming to Coyote Café's cantina for decades. It has felt exciting, inventive, and fun. Last night, though, I had the sinking realization: it's just not that anymore. The nachos were the heartbreak of the evening. Imagine if you took all the joy of nachos, those crispy edges, melty cheese, the distinct layering of flavors and textures, and then threw it all in a blender, poured it out in a heap, and called it a day. They were basically a beige pile of mush. The empanadas were good, but not memorable. A little more interesting and tasty than frozen ones at Trader Joe's. To be fair, the menu had potentially inventive versions of things like ceviche and gazpacho, but Santa Fe pulled a fast one with fall weather. I was bundled in a hoodie and not about to slurp cold soup while shivering. Still, even with that accounted for, what we ordered just wasn't interesting, well and the nachos weren't even good. Service was another story. Our waiter took our order and then vanished like he'd gone into witness protection. No mid-meal check-in, no chance for me to order the second margarita I definitely would have had. I only managed to flag him down when he was sprinting past toward the kitchen to grab our check, which was pure luck. I don't think it was the wait staffs fault, they weren't lounging around, this was bad restaurant management. Yeah, the management quirks... wow. Most restaurants let you order a drink while you wait. Here you can't go into the bar and do that. So,, after a full half-hour __standing__ around, someone eventually came out to take drink orders. It felt less like hospitality and more like a staffing shortage no one wanted to admit. Noise was the final cherry on top. Maybe sitting right by the kitchen was the culprit, but our table of three had to yell at each other like we were competing with a protest rally. Not exactly rooftop magic. I'll always have affection for this place. And I know I'll continue to go a few times a year. But based on last night, the cantina feels more like a faded postcard than the vibrant destination it used to be.

I love Coyote Cafe ! Honestly has been tradition to have my dad's birthday dinner here. We also just pop in randomly throughout the year. The menu changes with seasons and I love the flavors they always put out! Tonight we order pasta, lobster, scallops, shrimp, soup, bread and delicious drinks. We got hot toddy's, espresso martinis and a Cosmo! The customer service was superb! Our gal was on it with all our questions and even giving dad a candle. It was a night to remember.

Unfortunately I was highly disappointed by food and service. I ordered fish and shrimp taco. The food wasn't bad but it's didn't come with a side of salsa or any sort of sauce. It did comes with a side of rice which I felt was under seasoned. The service was slow. I walked in around 1pm and door was locked. I was surprised to find them close even though online says that they are open at 11am that day. I checked on google and it was suppose to be open. I called and they said that they are open but waiting for alcohol to be delivered at 3pm. Did they assume that every customer coming in is ordering alcohol? As far as I understand this is a restaurant that serves food and alcohol and not a bar. Shortly after my arrival, there was a large tour with 12 people showed up. I could see that the waiter was a bit flustered because he also had to tend to other customer as well as the tour. I guess this is where the tour take people for authentic taco experience. In my opinion these are more toned down gringo tacos. My taco didn't come with a side of sauce like everyone else. I also noticed that the tour all received a side of salsa which I didn't. I'm not sure if the waiter forgot. I had to flag down the waiter a few time because he also forgot my drink. I also ordered an agua Fresca watermelon and it wasn't made of real watermelon but flavor syrup from the bar. I wished I had known that it wasn't real melon. 2.5 stars for the food and 2 for service. Again food wasn't terrible, but certainly wasn't close to be the best.

Apparently moles aren't all dark chocolate spicy sauces ... ?!?? Loved the education and samples. I'm typically not a mole fan, but they were fun to try. We had the octopus but to me the sauce was too oily. The actual octopus was tender and delicious. Also had the duck skin tacos which were more of a minced duck meat taco and delish. The 5 stars go for impeccable service and the SOUP. This soup is not to be missed. Nothing on paper makes me think it should work but it totally does. It's a big lump of blue crap topped with creamy poblano pepper soup with whipped cream and amaretto and then topped with a spicy kick. We were seated immediately but waited about ten minutes before anyone greeted us. When our server finally arrived, he wished us a happy anniversary--even though it wasn't our anniversary. While not a major issue, it's the kind of detail a restaurant at this price point should get right. After ordering drinks, water, and our meals, we were told everything was available except the duck. My wife ordered the sopa de amora and the halibut special. I ordered the frijole negro and attempted to order the Popocatépetl, only to be told it was unavailable that evening. Instead, I was offered a $90 Wagyu steak. For a restaurant of this caliber, the menu should be updated or guests should be informed of major changes upfront. It felt like a bait-and-switch. Our drinks arrived, but after finishing our water, we were told more would be brought out. It never arrived until dessert, when I had to ask again. The frijole negro was excellent--the best dish of the night. Unfortunately, my wife's soup was disappointing. We were told it had to be eaten from top to bottom or bottom to top for the flavors to work properly, and this explanation was delivered in a somewhat condescending manner. Despite being described as "the best soup in the state," the flavors simply felt off. For the entrées, my steak was good, but the rice was overcooked and mushy. My wife's halibut was completely under-seasoned, and her rice was equally inedible. Dessert was better. The crepes were enjoyable, though the walnuts were noticeably burnt. I don't usually nitpick, but when a restaurant charges premium prices, the food and service should justify the cost. Unfortunately, both were mediocre, and the overall experience fell far short of expectations.
