I came here simply because they were the only shop that carried VB-Victoria Beckham-Beauty (I know, please don't make fun of me). I wanted to try out the products before purchasing, and I have to say I had a positive experience with Brandon! Greeted immediately upon entering, I walked into the small store where there were about two associates and a few customers. There was plenty of seating for those who weren't shopping, and I made my way around until I found the area I was searching for. When he had a moment, I was asked if I was looking for anything in particular, and then had full reign of the VB eye liners. I played to my hearts content while staying out of the way of other customers. Due to the small space, they have a highly coveted line of products; some of course you will find at Sephora, Neiman's, etc. but others are specific to here, this VB line being one of them. Her Satin Kajal Liners are some of the best I have ever used, and I appreciate the smudger on the other end for convenience. This formula did not leave me with raccoon eyes, and I hope this holds up for their other shades and finishes (matte, shimmer and jewel). A complimentary sharpener is normally included which was forgotten understandably due to how busy the shop became, but one was held for me to pick up the following day. I liked the fact I was greeted, then left alone until I needed assistance; I didn't feel as though I was intruding and there was zero pressure to purchase. I love Melrose Place! Violet Grey is well curated and has my favorite products. I came in for a specific mascara (Victoria Beckham) and purchased a few items in the collection. I asked several times for my desired product and asked the salesperson to double check that they provided the correct item. I was assured and left the store. I opened my bag the next day and the item was not correct. I called the store and they refunded me immediately, but I have to say it was very inconvenient. I ordered the correct product directly from the Victoria Beckham site. I would go back to Violet Grey just because the store is gorgeous. I have never actually been to the store, as I have always placed orders online with this company, but I have to say that the customer service I received was OUTSTANDING! I received a $145 jar of Clarifying Mask and when I opened it, it smelled rather off, possibly rancid. I emailed Violet Grey customer support and sent them photos of the box, jar and batch numbers. I came in with a friend from out of town, and while one of the saleswomen was polite, the other was walking around using the store's $2,695 Lyma laser on herself and rolling her eyes at us when my friend asked for a product that they carry online but not in store. I came to the store today and had an event with a super great NY plastic surgeon. They offered free plastic surgery consult, who can resist one of these? They have great selection, pretty much all the products I have at home that took me years to find, all in 1 place so amazing. I guess the girls running this store know their stuff. I had only great experience with all the staff there I think there were about 5 or 6 people staffed including a makeup artist. I ended up buying the plastic surgeons lip kit and her eye lash kit both are supposed to be excellent and of course I could not help to buy a few more things, like this amazing Byredo perfume oil stick, it's so fab! Run don't delay going there its so worth it, I feel like my own personal closet of cool things and I really don't want to share with with all of you, as you will steal my secret stash...:) well be smart shop here, and get your self a latte next door at Alfred's so worth it. There is no beauty place like Violet Grey. It's such a gorgeous space, and includes a private makeup studio. The curation is so current and good! The overall vibe is cool... good music...lighting is right (if you know you know). The girls working there were so friendly and knowledgeable. They helped me when I had questions and weren't annoying in any way. I was able to shop in peace. It just feels so private there. I am obsessed. I order about two items a week and every single item I've ordered exceeded my expectations. I am a huge fan of LaMer , Molton Brown and the usual luxury skin care, but as my skin changes with age I haven't been in love with what I've been using for many years. I gave the face products a try on Violet Grey and me who is prone to INTENSE breakouts has not broke out once. I really believe that the owner/staff really care about the items they list on their website. I don't know why people are not receiving their orders (hope that does not happen to me lol) , but I've had nothing but amazing experiences .... I like coming to this store because all of their products have been selected and recommended by makeup artists as top products. I hate giving bad reviews. But I have to. I have never felt so belittled during a shopping experience in my life. My friend and I are both professional (read: gainfully employed) makeup artists, and came in planning to almost fully restock our kits here. We were prepared to drop some serious bank. I guess we didn't look cool (or rich?) enough for the shop girls. White tshirt and jean shorts on my friend, black dress and Birkenstocks on me. Should we have been carrying LV monogram and have Gucci emblazoned on our chests, and every brandable nook of our clothes, or what? Do I need to aggressively and without context, name drop all of my clients? Gross. The girls behind the counter had *one* client in, who had already been rung up, chatting at the front desk. And they ignored us completely- this place is seriously tiny. So this was super intentional. One of them was pretty desperately pushing her Instagram account, trying to bag new followers. Then we were just served a cold side eye once the client left. One very bored dude finally emerged from the back to ring us in disinterestedly. In hindsight we're mad we bought anything, but we were feeling pretty shaken up. The testers were pretty haggard. More than a few fingers had clearly found their way into some of them, so I wouldn't recommend putting any of their stuff on your face, because bacteria. Trust me on this. Don't do it. Someone in a previous review said she felt like Pretty Woman, and that is super accurate. Is this really the kind of vibe you guys are hoping to have? Do you think it's cool to be rude to people? Because it's really not. The kindest people I have worked with in this business are usually the most successful. On the positive side, we found Frends beauty, where we stocked up on Koh Gen Do, Aucoin, and Jouer- and the service was LOVELY and attentive, not overbearing. I absolutely love this place! I was greeted with a friendly smile & a "good morning" the first time I arrived on a rainy day. i got there as soon as it opened. It's pretty & smaller than i thought. The makeup was displayed well & organized. After a few min they asked if I was looking for something special. She was knowledgeable on all products. Terrible, pretentious customer service. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman despite the fact that I look nothing like a hooker. I stopped in the other day during my lunch break, and the two employees in the shop did not even look up for a good 2 minutes while I awkwardly stood waiting for someone to acknowledge me. Finally a man entered and asked if I needed something. I told him what I was looking for (which was sold out in every Sephora in LA and online), and when he said they had it I did a little cheer, which he was not impressed by. He did not seem thrilled to have to sell me the product and had a very condescending tone during our transaction. Went to the store today to check out the westman atelier foundation. As soon as I walked in my mother and I were barely given a hello. The employee was sitting on a chair in her computer and seemed to be too busy to bother to even get up. I asked about the westman atelier products and they showed me where it was but didnt offer to help color match or tell me anything about it. Honestly, they were unhelpful and belittling in their attitude. Btw, spent a decent amount of money there and regret it- Im not feeling good about going, it showed the bad side of LA. This place is perfectly curated with the best of the best makeup, skincare, perfume/candles and hair products. I believe if you purchase $250 worth of products they will do your makeup for you. I absolutely LOVE this place. I started off following their blog and occasionally checking their site for new posts. A good friend of mine got me a giftcard to this place and I was in heaven. Their selection is very curated which is a good thing because they know about the product well and aren't just promoting the brand because it's there. Everything there has been hand picked and tried by them. The boutique is very chic and elegant and makes you feel like anything you purchase is an investment. Their associates are there to help you learn to use something, try something new and have GREAT product recommendations. Recently I visited again during their spend $250 get $50 off and I was helped by Lori. She helped me with almost everything, didn't rush me or push product on me which I liked, I ended up loving all of my purchases, not to mention the Koh Gen Do spa water makeup remover she recommended me try. I make it a POINT to only get my beauty purchases here. I love the store, the ambiance and the people. My only issue is the parking, it can be a huge pain, but since the stores right on Melrose, I don't mind a little scenic stroll before I reach my destination. read more

How do I not know about this little gem until Lisa Eldridge did her book signing here?! Such a cute shop with very selective collection of makeup! The owners and the team really knows how to pick and choose the best items to carry. I would definitely come back even if it's an hour and a half drive for me. The experience here is so different from your regular everyday make up boutique or store. You go in chit chat with a celebrity make up artist, they give you champagne, water, and you basically talk make up and try on things! I stumbled across this shop once since I frequent this street pretty regularly. Once I found out they sold skin care, I came in to see if they carried this sunblock that I wanted. They didn't but the girl showed me a few other options and demoed them on my skin for me. She was super friendly and tried to get to know me and my needs, and not pushy at all. Their selection is very tightly curated so they don't carry everything that I want but I know that if they have it, I'm coming here.
