I made a reservation for the Mothers day brunch. Eight people for the 12:30 seating. The line to get in was ridiculous and we waited for over an hour to be seated. When we were finally seated, they had no staff to serve drinks and the buffet trays were empty they eventually filled them but only after we already ate from what they did have. It was a mix of some very good food and some . The wait for eggs and pancakes was way too long since only one person was on the station. It was the most disorganized event and was a mix of some very good food and some REALLY not good food. All in all, I would never go back because of the experience we had. Then on top of everything else they had the nerve to put a 18% gratuity on a buffet brunch, which turned out to be $90.00 added to the bill. Charming place! I read many reviews about this venue but never had the chance to go there until this past weekend. When you first arrive and go down the stairs you already notice the details on the decor. The cellar ( main restaurant area) is really beautiful and sophisticated - - - European kind of atmosphere. The food and service were outstanding. The staff is very attentive and friendly. We were two couples so we decided to order two small plates per person and share everything. We got chicken empanadas, beef sliders, lamb chops, shrimp, spanakopita cigars, lobster flat bread, and fried calamari. The experience of having many tapas in your table is something that I absolutely love!. Nothing better to share and eating many different entree's. Their portions are quite generous so don't go nuts - - - we left this place "rolling" out of the door if you know what I mean lol. The prices here are also unbeatable! My partner and I loved the food. We had the short rib ragu and the butternut squash gnocchi. We were very satisfied with both. Our only issue was the service. We were told the sever was new but lacked basic common sense such as asking how our food was after it was dropped. She was very inattentive we had to hunt her down for our check and she never came back to get our credit card, maybe cause we could see her by the bar eating. We have the card to a different server. I had brunch there today with a friend to celebrate her birthday. The place is gorgeous. Very well appointed. Awesome Bloody Mary's made with cucumber & cilantro and a lime vodka. The food was delicious: Eggs Benedict with siracha hollandaise with a lobster tail, perfectly roasted potatoes, and one of the specials, truffled eggs. The service, however, was not up to snuff - especially when brunch for 2 is $90. My water glass was never refilled throughout a 90+ minute meal. I had to ask for a 2nd cup of coffee. Then I had to ask for milk - twice. A good server would have immediately noticed the milk was basically empty when he was pouring the coffee. The worst part was when they took my bread plate with my uneaten croissant on it - without asking! Finally, when I made the reservation online, I made note that we were celebrating my friend's birthday - a fact which was ignored. Attempted to walk in for dinner on a Thursday night without a reservation at the wait time was 45 min - 1 hour. We took our losses and decided to make reservations for brunch on a Sunday. The layout is very trendy and give a speakeasy vibe with all the different rooms that are available. There are four different rooms available: Button Room (speakeasy standing area around the bar), Tosca Room (the banquet room), Crate Room and the Wine Room. They have quite a few Bloody Mary's on their menu and I went with the BLT Bloody Mary. It wasn't overly spicy and they used their own house mix for the drink. It was garnished with lettuce and bacon. I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend got the Margarosa (which was a margarita and mimosa hybrid). Each table got a plate of delicious, warm croissants. As for brunch we both ordered the Lobster Benedict. This was delicious - instead of poached eggs, it was 2 fried eggs with a sriracha hollandaise sauce (which added a pleasant kick to the dish). The lobster tail meat was already removed from the tail which made for easy access and not having to crack the shell to get into it which I appreciated. After, my boyfriend ordered Violette's Meatballs - which came with some garlic bread and he said had some good flavor. I also ordered a Nutella cappuccino - this was the perfect amount of sweet. I don't like very sweet coffee, but this added a nice flavor even without adding extra sugar. There were so many great choices on the menu - I can't wait to come back and try them all. Really wonderful addition to Staten Island. We came for brunch. The decor is classy, perfect for a celebration meal. Service was great. Lots of options for everyone on the menu. I had the grilled chicken which came on a bed of avocado mousse and quinoa- it was very good. We also tried lobster Benedict, chorizo grilled cheese, brisket slider, chicken & waffles and chicken pot pie empanadas. Everything was great. The margarosa was strong. Violette's Cellar's Brunch Menu looked unique enough that I was pretty excited to check it out. It was pretty busy and for a new restaurant, that is always a good sign. My friend and I were seated immediately and our young waiter approached us quick. I'm not sure if this is a pet-peeve of others or I'm just picky, but theres something about when a waiter gets extremely close to you to talk that I am not a fan of. We were both young girls, and there is just an unprofessionalism about being approached at an uncomfortably close level. Moving on from that, our waiter was very kind. The scenery in the restaurant is very cute, it reminds me of exactly what the name represents -- a purple hued wine cellar. The menu advertises complimentary croissants as a bread service, but unfortunately we were never given these. The food we ordered was fairly simple: I ordered the Pear Salad with sunflower seeds, roasted pears, and pear cider vinagrette ($12) and my friend ordered the Potatoes and Eggs ($8) with eggwhites with cheese instead of the choice of being served any style. The Pear Salad was delicious, but the eggs came out as three sunny side up eggs. When we mentioned this to the waiter, we waited another 10 minutes and a potato and egg omelette without cheese was brought to the table -- my friend just kept her mouth shut and ate it anyway. We also ordered a side of smoked gouda mac and cheese to split ($9) which was definitely the star of the show. Cheesy, smoky, and delicious. As I saw this on almost every table in the restaurant, I can easily say this must be a best seller. We skipped out on dessert but they do have many attractive options, so I will have to go back and see if the tastes match the menu's creativity. As our service was really lacking, I find it hard to give this place a truly realistic review. The food was decent enough, however, so I would definitely return once the restaurant settles down and works out those new restaurant kinks. I ordered the as main dishes the Lobster, the baby back ribs, 2 salad plates, mushroom empanadas & 3 desserts. The food was TERRIBLE! the pasta & shrimp only tasted like pure salt! The lobster was just okay. The baby back ribs were nasty, like a cheap frozen dinner. The ribs were like chewing on taffy, & just salty. At least I ate the lobster tail but it the pasta, shrimp, & baby back ribs plate went to the garbage. The pear salads were ok. The mushroom empanadas were swimming in grease & salty! Im very disappointed & would never go back! Never! The desserts were just ok. EXCEPT for the cheese cake it was spoiled. I didn't call immediately because It was the New Years Eve & I just didn't feel like complaining. I did call, 1/2/22 & spoke to Santiago. Looking for brunch came across Violette's Cellar - interesting place, several different rooms, very inviting and interesting decor; the atmosphere is nice as well. Staff are quite friendly and accommodating. Nice brunch selection to include the regular Benedicts option as well as more involved flatbreads and frittata options. Also a nice selection of drinks and a full bar. I went with Strawberry fizz - bubbly (literally fizzling) drink that's both refreshing and satisfying. Also tried the shrimp and avocado toast - super simple, delicious, and satisfying (perhaps a bit pricy at $17 but a nice treat). Nice space as much for parties as for an intimate date. I went here for Sunday brunch. Reservations are accepted. The food was enjoyable and the atmosphere was trendy with big comfy chairs and dim lighting. The hostess and wait staff were very friendly and attentive. I can't wait to go back and try more of what's on the menu, especially the unique cocktails they offer. I returned for dinner with a large party. We sampled nearly everything on the menu. Everything was delicious. My husband and I went to Violette's Cellar last night with another couple for a pre-opening event. The outside has purple flowers on it and relatively unassuming on the side of Hyland Blvd. However once inside, the atmosphere is lovely - chic and cozy. It was a nice surprise as the exterior doesn't reflect the interior. The dinner menu consists of charcuterie, small plates, and large plate options. We only sampled the small plates and cocktails so I can only review those. We ordered 10 small plates: Crab cake spring roll, calamari, Violette's meatballs, Filet mignon satay, duck mole tacos, brisket sliders, artichoke bread pudding, spanakopita cigars, mushroom pot pie, and the smoked Gouda mac & cheese. Everything was delicious! The standouts for the whole group were the brisket sliders, meatballs (the sauce was fantastic), spanakopita cigars, and duck mole tacos. If you order the calamari, ask for a side of the marinara that comes with the meatballs - totally worth it! The lemon basil aioli is good, but having both is great! 10 plates was a good amount for the 4 of us for dinner. As a note, many plates come with two or three items - so if you have a larger group, you will need to split or order multiple plates of the same item. The cocktails were also great. I had 3 lychee martinis which were delicious. Others in the group also sampled the red and white sangria and they seemed to enjoy it. After dinner we had another drink in the "speakeasy" portion of the restaurant. They have some tables, a bar, and some couches. Not exactly sure how it will work when officially open - overheard something about a password needed - an interesting idea - will need to see how it works after they are open! I suggest if you go to order the mac and cheese, chicken and waffles and fresh baked croissants. The dessert was ok but could have been better and the unicorn French toast was a bit too sweet for my taste and didn't go along with the rest of the brunch menu.They have decent sized rooms but the bathroom was a tad too small. I never write reviews, but our meal and experience dining in The Wine Room last night at Violette's Cellar for our wedding anniversary was fantastic enough that I told our hostess and sommelier that I wanted to. Honestly, we had the same fantastic type of meal and experience recently at Stone Lakes as well and its not surprising now, given that the properties are affiliated. First, their service was excellent. We were received and seated right away with smiles and conversation. The room itself is pleasant and comfy, with plush chairs. Very clean, rustic but modern. The sommelier was friendly, informative, and responsive to our requests without ever being overbearing. In fact, we told him that we had plans after and needed to leave after 2 1/2 hours and he kept the meal and service running perfectly so that we had time for all our courses and walked out with our bill settled exactly on time. Just amazing and so much appreciated. This experience is really meant to be savored for at least 4 hours, if not more. We'll be back again, and we will do exactly that. They offered a delicious, family style, 4 course meal including dessert and accompanied by wine pairings. All plates were so much more generously sized than I would ever expect from fine dining that we were full by the end of the 2nd course and sadly leaving some bites on every plate! Our main course, the Chateaubriand, was one of the more amazing cuts of meat I've eaten in my almost 40 years on earth. I wanted to bathe in the truffle garlic sauce accompaniment. Their trio of potatoes was rich and heavenly. We sent compliments to the kitchen a number of times. Basically, the experience was beyond worth the price especially given our special occasion. How long does it take to make scrabbled egg and to bake potatoes? 5mins? 15mins? How about 45mins? Well, 45mins is what the chef and waitress here feel it takes to make a 3 bite sizes (supposedly 3eggs, though feel like 1.5eggs)of scrambled eggs and bake 12 tiny potatoes. We visited the place on Saturday, July 20 and was got a cold, half hearted smile from our waitress Sam. Since it was the hottest day of the summer, we ordered for some cocktails. In less than a minute my cocktail was on the table. My drink had none of the ingredients of what was on the menu and the champagne in it was flat. It was clearly been sitting out and might have been something they got it wrong for someone else. We ordered the food and had a long 45min wait to get scrabbled egg and potatoes while my wife ordered avacado toast. What's even more interesting is that the menu said fried potatoes but what we got was baked potatoes. No explanations on why they changed and no apologies Will not suggest this place, more because of the service than the food. Judging by the yelp reviews, I expected better and was surprised that we didn't have a good experience here. I ordered the Lobster Benedict, which was a piece of toast, topped with sunny side up eggs with an over cooked lobster tail, it lacked every thing a Benedict should be including the flavors. My friend ordered a pistachio cake for dessert which was just a muffin and strawberry ice cream, it was terrible. For Sunday brunch, there should be more than two servers. My friends chose this restaurant as the menu looked good. I passed it many times but had never gone. Ambience was nice. We shared a charcuterie board which was very good. However, when we finished the appetizer the wine glasses were empty and we had to ask for another. Our main course was then re-confirmed (we had already ordered). It took almost an hour to come out and the restaurant was not crowded. Two of us ordered skirt steak and the medium rare came out well done. Had a 3:15 reservation on Mother's Day, they could seat us outside only when we arrived. Ordered from their overpriced prix fix menu. Appetizers arrived before the drinks. Waited 30 mins for our salads. Ordered a chile lime which was a weird Caesar salad with 12 pieces of lettuce and croutons although others at the table had croutons. Waited an hour for our entrees. Complained to the staff and manager. Food came, dropped off in the area, no staff to serve it. Manager served it herself. Ordered the lobster which was cooked well but was smothered in a strange Velveeta butter sauce. They were out of the desserts we ordered, chose alternates, but 20 mins later learned the alternates weren't available. We got a free round of drinks but 3 hours later that didn't help. I took my friend here for her 21st birthday and the service was excellent. The staff was nice and helpful. The drinks were amazing. We tried a bunch was different appetizers which were very small. The best one we had was the fried shrimp small plate. YUM! The atmosphere was absolutely perfect especially for a girly girl like myself. The chairs were so comfortable. The decor was flawless and they even have a photo booth. It also was not too loud. I was able to have a conversation with my friend and have no trouble hearing her. I would definitely come back. I would otherwise give 4.5 stars and I will probably come back again. But last night boggles my mind. Our dinner party sat down at 9:45 PM (Open Table had a seating available for 10 PM). The manager was not happy and told us we had to get our orders in by 10 PM and had to leave by 11 PM. IF THAT IS THE CASE - Don't offer 10 PM reservations on Open Table. By then it was too late to go somewhere else. For a party of four - we ordered over $500 of food and drinks to compensate the wait Staff. They were gracious and told us not to worry. Nevertheless the manager kicked us out at 11 PM. We would have been done at 11:30 but we were forced to guzzle down the remaining wine and box the rest of the food and left the restaurant at 11:15 PM. So this is fair warning. Do not come here later than 9 PM or you will get run out at 11. Even today I notice Open Table offering a table for 2 at 9:45 PM. WHY EVEN OFFER THAT TIME SLOT IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET KICKED OUT AN HOUR LATER BY THE MANAGER? read more
