Hidden Gem for Sweet Tooths & Pup Parents!…read more We visited House of Marmalade as part of the Hampton Roads Passport Series, and I am so glad we did -- I don't think I would've discovered this little gem otherwise! The shop is small and cozy with no indoor seating, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and incredible sweets. The bakery case was absolutely stunning -- full of beautifully made cookies, macarons, and more. We tried three macarons (espresso, almond, and salted caramel), and every single one was perfection -- fresh, flavorful, and just the right size and sweetness. We also grabbed a shortbread cookie, which was buttery and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And let's not forget our pup! Lexi got a pumpkin cupcake with peanut butter icing, topped with a tiny bone-shaped treat -- not only adorable, but she devoured it. Definitely pup-approved! The staff was fantastic -- super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. You can tell they care about their craft and their customers. Whether you're doing the Passport Tour or just looking for a place to grab something sweet, House of Marmalade is absolutely worth the stop. We'll definitely be back!

This tiny bakery did not disappoint and was better than expected and remembered from my childhood (Please just don't tell mom). The flavors were satisfying and took your tastebuds on a journey! Our cake was only $326 which was phenomenal because other places were charging $800-$1,000 for a 3-tier wedding cake. I really loved the user-friendly website they had. Ordering was so simple and easy and I was able to order a gorgeous pre-made, 3-tier cake, that Jessica and Erik were able to add our wedding colors to. The cake was a vintage style cake and it quite elegant. The top two layers were vanilla with the bottom being chocolate. The cake was delicious, moist, with the perfect amount of buttercream icing. The guests absolutely loved the chocolate as it had layers of what looked like fudge in between the layers or cake. The slices were a mile high tall and did I mentioned the moistness of the cake?! It was amazing. The vanilla was delicious as well, but the chocolate was the crowd favorite. Our guests loved the cake. We will be ordering from Jessica and Erik in the future for events and milestones. We also support veteran owned businesses. Look no further if you want a beautiful and reasonably priced wedding cake!

They were delivered on time but EVERY SINGLE cookie was broken into pieces. I immediately contacted the owner, Jessica, via email (that's the only way to communicate with them), she stated that UPS probably mishandled the package and I should send her pictures. UPS had no fault in this, as the box they were in was small and not sturdy and FRAGILE was not marked on the box. The box was squished. It was the way they were packaged and sent that caused the entire contents to be smashed. Once I sent her pictures, she would not respond to me any further, I sent 3 more emails asking for a refund and never got any response. I don't understand how a business can operate like that. I had to file a claim with my CC and finally received the refund. This Jessica does not care about her customers in the least, I was devastated that I could not use the planned cookies as favours for my daughert's shower and scrambled to get something else, 3 days before the event.

It makes me really sad to write this review. I love to support small and local…read more I have only ever had their cupcakes sold individually at a Moyock farm market, but I've tried at least 5 different flavors. They always LOOK so delicious, fun and exciting! But...I have never in my life spit out a cupcake, or any kind of cake. I LOVE cake. First time trying them was a couple years ago, and they were unicorn-y looking, and sparkly, and gorgeous. But just not good. Thought I'd try them again 2 days ago and these 3 flavors: Ube, Strawberry (in case I didn't like the Ube), and Chocolate Cheesecake. The Ube was actually fine, and the best of the 3. But I still tossed half of it because it was so dry. SO dry, like sawdust. And sadly, I literally spit out the first bite of both the Strawberry and the Choc Cheesecake. Even drier than the Ube, but worse, they tasted...spoiled, if that's possible. Sadly, I only remembered to take a photo of the last one. I just don't understand! Most other reviews are so great! Maybe you have to order them fresh and not in a retail outlet. Or maybe the farm market gets them a week old or something... or the frosting is only good for one day. ?? Sad face.

She even helped me choose my cupcakes and answered any questions we had. I loved seeing all the examples of cakes they do, displayed throughout. I opted for a 4 pack. Whenever I am trying new cupcakes I have a method to my madness. I have to get a fruit one, a chocolate cake based, a vanilla cake based and a surprise. I ended up choosing a lemon cupcake, a vanilla cupcake, a chocolate cupcake and an Ube cupcake. The all tasted nice. The flavors were not over powering at all. I did not taste lemon in icing too much. Out of the 4 flavors I purchase, the Une was the best. Even my coworkers voted on the Ube cupcake being the best. The chocolate cupcake I chose... can't remember the flavor, but it was ok. It didn't wow me. I would definitely visit again.

Let's talk about the pineapple bun first--because I could honestly eat 10 more of these! It wasn't overly sweet, and the bun was soft with a meaty, gooey center. The coarse bits of sugar on top added a nice little crunch that made every bite even better. The hot dog bun was also amazing. The hot dog had a nice sear around it, which gave it great flavor while keeping it juicy. Definitely one of my favorites! The chicken buns were good and had a unique sweet-and-savory flavor. They weren't my absolute favorite, but they were definitely not bad--just different from what I expected. I wasn't a huge fan of the ham and cheese, though. As my husband put it, it was exactly what it was called: ham and cheese. It reminded me of a simple ham-and-cheese sandwich wrapped in a soft, fluffy blanket of bread. If that's your thing, you'll probably enjoy it! Overall, everything we tried was delicious, fresh, and clearly made with care. I'll definitely be back for more pineapple buns!
