First, we learned Olympus Housing did not have management rights for the apartment, completely in violation of the lease we signed which stated Olympus had rights to sublease the apartment. A different company held the lease on the apartment, so when we showed up, no one from Olympus was there and the rep for this other company had no idea what room we agreed on with Yaz. My son was put in a small, but reasonable room for the first week, then they abruptly moved him to another apartment, in an interior, windowless room. Because we didn't sign the lease with this other company, Yaz pretended he had no ability to make changes. We now understand this is their scam. They retrofit these apartments, adding extra rooms with no windows, or locking doors, in order to jam multiple people in each apartment. His room was less than 60sqft, had no windows and the walls were made from bookshelves. These are all building code violations. It seems Olympus Housing & this other company are tricking summer interns into signing leases, then sticking them into cramped apartments that they cut up into multiple rooms. There were other safety violations (no smoke detectors, mice infestations) and we were forced to move our son to safer apartment. We tried to negotiate with Yaz for a refund however, he refused and is not returning calls or emails. We are still pursuing other means to get our money back. We strongly urge caution when dealing with Olympus.

George Washington University Summer Housing is a miserable and overpriced excuse for intern…read morehousing. My friend and I booked a room at the West End which was in their second tier of accommodations (they have three tiers) for $2900 each for 8 weeks. The room was in filthy condition with rust everywhere and paint peeling off the wall. The appliances were not working and the windows overlooked an alley with two large dumpsters. Realizing that this was no way to spend a summer, we paid an additional (discounted) rate of $135 each to upgrade to City Hall which is their top tier housing which they assured me was "luxurious". For the first four weeks, the air conditioning did not work. There were five instances where we were woken up in the middle of the night (between 1am and 4am) by the malfunctioning fire alarm and forced to evacuate. Throughout my stay, only one of three elevators was regularly operating. While many folks in the housing office were nice and even somewhat sympathetic to our concerns, they were unwilling to offer any sort of refund other than $75 for our troubles (remember that we were paying over $3000 each). I will say that the location is quite good (only a 10 minute metro ride from Capitol Hill and walking distance from the White House and Georgetown). Nonetheless, I would say that GWU housing is worth about 50% of what they charge at the moment. We were paying on average $3000 a month for a cramped apartment with malfunctioning air conditioning and fire alarm systems. The fact is, you'd do much better looking at non-student centered housing in DC as you will find higher quality accommodations for a lower price.

Thank you for waiting two days to send someone to investigate water damage. Thank you for not giving us any information and being evasive on the phone. Thank you for leaving us with a ruined stove/oven for three days. Thank you for giving us what you characterized as an optional temporary move for three days. Thank you for then telling our program coordinator and not us that the optional and highly inconvenient move was actually a mandatory optional and highly inconvenient move. Thanks for then revoking our access to our dorm at 8:00pm without telling us or our program director. And thank you, for having the amazing ability to return our swipe access. For a whole hour. That must have been a big strain. You all should take a vacation day.

My son stayed at a WISH townhouse on Constitution Ave this summer. About a week into his stay, he…read morenoticed what looked like bite marks on his legs and feet. Initially, he assumed they were mosquito bites from being outside, but it eventually became clear that his room was infested with bed bugs. Let me say that the maintenance staff member, Aaron, was responsive and helpful throughout. He first arranged a mattress replacement and, when the problem persisted, scheduled an exterminator. Unfortunately, even after two additional treatments--including one with a stronger formula--the infestation continued. After the third treatment failed, we reached out to Aaron late on a Saturday evening (July 19), and he immediately found a single-occupancy unit for my son and arranged transportation to move him out that same night. His effort and concern were greatly appreciated--he was the only part of this experience that we felt was reliable. We cannot thank him enough. That said, the ordeal caused significant stress and unexpected costs. We had to discard and replace bedding multiple times, buy vacuum-seal bags for transporting clothing, and pay for professional laundry services to avoid bringing the infestation home. This is not the type of situation--or expense--we expected when paying for student housing. Even before we realized the last treatment had failed, I reached out to WISH's main number to ask to speak to WISH leadership to request some form of refund or compensation, which I felt was entirely reasonable given the circumstances. I was told the only recourse was to send an email to arrivals@internsdc.com , which I did on July 18. I've sent multiple follow-ups and made several phone calls since then, and I have yet to receive any response. When I called again today, I was told the notes in the system simply stated that the room was inspected before and after my son's stay and that no bed bugs were found--implying, absurdly, that he somehow brought on the infestation himself. Given the timeline and the repeated failed treatments (and mattress replacement), this suggestion seems not only unfounded--but offensive. I was advised that "an email will be sent" to someone in charge but, this has been done before and after a month of silence, it seems clear that no one at WISH intends to follow up or acknowledge any culpability on their part at all. Perhaps the strategy has been to ignore us until we just go away. I would stop short of advising people not to utilize WISH at all--my son did have a positive experience in D.C. overall--but I would strongly caution to expect that if any issues arise, you may find it extremely difficult to get a timely or adequate response from anyone in authority.

At the time I paid $150, but on some nights it goes for $97. It's 10 minutes away from downtown D.C. and easy to get to by metro. Everyone at the front desk is friendly and I enjoyed my stay. The only thing that could be better was an earlier check in, 4 p.m. is later than hotels usually offer. Worthy stand out -This chain has monthly book club meetings and will even provide you with the book. As a reader, I'm obsessed with this detail. Maintenance was kind and understanding, and Comcast was called in multiple times, but nothing ever got fixed. I later found out this was only an issue for certain units on my floor. Combined with once-a-week elevator breakdowns the first month, an overflowing trash room with occasional rats, and incompetent management, this was a deeply disappointing experience. On the pros side, laundry is free and the machines are pretty nice, although it's on the first floor, so elevator breakdowns make laundry a pain. Location's decent, and as long as you vacuum the floor, seal your food, and take out the trash, you should have no bug problems in your apartment.

Thurston Hall is perfectly tucked away in the far NE corner of GWU campus. The building directly across the street is the IMF (International Monetary Fund). The building adjacent is the World Bank. The top 20 ranked GWU law school is two blocks away. 5 minute walk to the Lincoln, Washington, Einstein monuments and the National Mall on Constitution. What an unbelievable and unreal and unforgettable experience! If you are looking into coming to GW for undergrad... You would be stupid to live elsewhere, unless you are not a people person and want to live alone and away from the main scene. Always rated one of the best dorms In the country! I stayed here from late June to early July 2019. I have stayed at several college campuses including UCLA and University of Michigan so I know the drill when it comes to college dorms. The dorms are outdated and require a PHYSICAL key (NOT a swipe card or code) to get into your room. The dorm itself was quite rundown and while I was there, the AC broke (it was the summer and extremely hot). Also another thing to note: this building is infested with mosquitoes and biting flies (as of early July 2019 which was when I was there). My roommates and I NEVER opened a single window, yet we'd wake up covered in mosquito bites. Then there were the biting flies, the maintenance people left the door do the downstairs rec room open and let in MANY biting flies. These bites are twice as big as mosquito bites (very swollen) and are itchy and actually painful. These dorms have definitely seen better days. It would definitely do GW good to renovate this building or to tear it down and rebuild it! This is the WORST dorm I have stayed in.

Large package arrived and was not an issue. 2. Rent was reduced after pandemic I think cause so many left. My husband said first time in 6 years. 3. Close to metro or bus 4. If you forget something you can always go to Mt. Suns little store for ice or dry cleaning. He's so sweet. 5. For a small space we have made the most of it. We could give lessons on storage. Haha 6. The new courtyard is so nice. Especially the rockers. I do wish the lights were on a timer. I sometimes am awaken by noise and then can't go back to sleep because of the light. I feel like it shines right at me. 7. maintenance comes quickly but our dishwasher should have been replaced awhile back. Not sure if it it really got fixed. I think it was just cleaned. 8. Where is the accountability for such rudeness by the property manager to residients? I notice that the Meridian and Paradigm spend more time responding to bad public reviews online of Meridian at Courthouse Property Management than actually responding to inquiries from tenants. Why is this? I wrote to resident relations twice about the horrific assistant property manager in this building at her invitation, and got no response. That I find to be very telling. So it's ugly on the outside, but inside the individual units are well-designed -- lots of light and closet space. It was also built before the (1972?) change in the building code, so not only do the solid concrete floors & walls make the apartments sound-proof, they are practically fire-proof as well. (I should know -- there was a fire in the unit next to mine and the fire inspector told me that unless the fire spread to the hallway, there was little chance of a fire spreading from one unit to another.) The staff at the 24-hour front desk is friendly and the new building manager is great. He's very solution-oriented. He also used to work in university campus housing so he's more than capable of handling middle-of-the-night emergencies, tiffs between neighbors, as well as the random incidents with drunks and cranks. And the best thing (depending on how you look at it) is it's VERY pet-friendly. You could keep a pack of St. Bernard's in your apartment if you were so inclined.
