We love this place, we love Virginia and all the wonderful cakes she has baked for us since my wedding day in 2014. But this review is for my last cake in August 2023, I had a baby shower cake, our order was taken by a new lady that didn't know a lot about cakes. She wanted me to know already what I wanted even though I don't remember anything about cakes or fillings names . When my mom told her the cake for me was supposed to have a particular color because the gender was a surprise, she kept asking in front of me what color, and then my mom wrote it for her so I wouldn't listen and she yelled "you're having a girl! Congratulations!!" Really ? I had just told her it was a surprise and I didn't know. I know she was just hired but we didn't like our experience that day. Then the day came when we picked up the cake and the colors were very different than what we asked we even had sent a picture, and we asked for Italian creme but the cake had a coconut flavor that everybody kept saying if it was coconut, it was good but not what we asked for, also the breading crumbled really easily. Hopefully this review is taken into consideration to improve the quality of work that the bakers and administration do, the cake was too expensive in our opinion to not get that quality service that we have known for years. read more

Very disappointed with the owners lack of communication. Beware if you are placing an order. I ordered custom cookies for my daughter's soccer team when I arrived to pick them up the cookies were not ready. I had ALL the email correspondence with my order detail, price, design, pick up date, and confirmation of the image I choose, etc. The correspondence included having the cookies individually bagged. Through none of the correspondence did Virginia or any staff member ask me to pay in advance; I would have been happy too. I placed my order via email, told the soccer team about the amazing cookies that were coming, only to be highly disappointed when I showed up to find out the cookies were not made. The owner apologized for being SHORT STAFFED. Unacceptable. read more

You know, I took a chance on Virginia's Cakes because of some of the reviews. My overall experience with Virginia's was amazing from the moment I walked in. I was greeted by a very nice lady, who then directed me to someone else for ordering my daughters 13th birthday cake. We discussed the details of the cake and I can say I nor my daughter were disappointed. We ordered the cake from the image attached from her favorite show. The flavors we picked were Strawberry cake and their version of white cake. The cake was amazing! Soft, fluffy, moist and flavorful! We even had a strawberry filling between the layers which was a nice touch. I cannot thank Virginia's enough for making my newly turned teenager a very happy young lady! We got married at Magnolia Bells and one of our options in our venue package was to have our wedding cake done by Virginia's. And let me just say, this was one of, if not the best, decisions we made regarding our wedding day. There was a display area with examples of their cakes, pies, and cookies you could order. However it was a bit confusing to order food, so we walked up to the cashier area to order it. (On a side note: they use paper straws!) Food - 2.5/5 Burger + fries: The burger was a bit burnt and had little-some seasoning. The fries were perfectly crunchy and right out of the fryer! However, there was so much salt my friend pulled off the salt before eating any fries. Cakes/Desserts - 2.5/5 Red Velvet Cake Slice: Its a glorified vanilla cake with bright red food coloring. (Yes red velvet is chocolate but I didn't taste the richness of it.) It's wasn't really moist. The cream/icing was really thick but tasted fine. - 4/5 Carrot Cake Slice: Loved it! Perfect blend of carrots and nuts. The cream/icing was also really thick but tasted good. The cake was moist but not soggy like other carrot cakes I've tried. Would come back to eat this more! - 5/5 Banana Bread: One of the best banana bread I've had and it's only $4 for the "loaf" the size of my hand. It's moist, had the right amount of sweetness and balanced out by the nuts. (They last about 5 days or so fresh out but they're too delicious to even last more than a day.) - 5/5 Cookies: They're only $0.87!!! Better yet they're the chewy type! I am very particular about my cakes. In this place is very good. The cakes are extremely moist. I love the buttercream. Overall homemade and great. Reasonably priced compared to other bakery's. I've tried the pie and the decorated sugar cookie and wasn't very impressed- but do yourself a favor and order your next birthday cake here! read more

I ordered my Fiancée's birthday cake this year from Virginia's. This was my first time buying from here and was very impressed with how the cake came out. I was within the 5-7 minimum allowance for a cake to be ordered, but they made it on the date I needed it, which I very much appreciated. I arrived earlier than my scheduled pick up appointment, but the cake was ready and waiting for me. I appreciated that as well because I was on a tight schedule. When I arrived, the customer service was good, and my buying experience was pleasant. The cake made my Fiancée very happy. She said it was the cake she's been waiting for and it was the best she's had in a long time. It was well worth the money I paid for it. As of now, I plan on returning at least once a year. I've ordered from Virginia's cakes for over six years, from baby showers (all three of my kids), to bridal showers and birthdays and today will be the last time they get my business. I've had a negative experience before but did not review about it because it was resolved. I ordered two cakes, an eggless cake (pictured) and a regular three layer ombré cake (didn't get a chance to take a photo, but it was to be a green to white ombré). I spoke to Tracie on the phone and described exactly what I wanted. Went over the details several times and even sent an email with instructions on what I wanted. Went to pick up the cakes (drove almost an hour) and there was NOTHING ombré about the three-layer cake. The whole cake was green, a smeared green look at that, something I could have done at home. Not AT ALL what I asked for. Brought it to Virginia's attention and she talked to me as if I did something wrong or failed to provide proper instructions, saying to me over and over "it was not on the order" I even showed her the email where I outlined how I wanted the cake, still she was not apologetic. Her attitude was dismissive, deflecting, and uncaring. Gave me the option to fix it but I had to come back later (not an option as the party was in a few hours and I drove almost one hour to get there). She then offered me a $20 discount on a $70 cake that was nothing like what I ordered. A discount and take as is, or refund and go with nothing. I ended up returning the cake (which I hope since they kept it that it went in the trash). I know it wasn't Virginia's fault that the lady who took the order originally didn't properly notate all of the details on the order. But as the business owner it is her responsibility to take responsibility (which I didn't see a glimmer of until it was too late), be empathetic and provide the highest level of customer service in a situation like this. Now the eggless cake (pictured) is where the one star comes from. If I can make an eggless cake better than a professional bakery, there's a problem. I paid $33 dollars (6" with strawberry filling) for a severely dense, extremely DRY, lacking flavor cake AND NO STRAWBERRY FILLING. The texture was like a cross between dry cornbread and bread pudding. I know eggs provide that fluffy texture in baked goods, but there are other ways to make an eggless cake moist and crumbly. Surely there was a trial phase to an eggless cake and there's no way this passed QC. Don't put your name behind a product that is extremely subpar. Just say you don't make it or don't make it at all. Extremely disappointed with this experience. Will not recommend to anyone else and will most certainly never return. read more

I ordered a cake from here last week and this will be my last time ordering from here. We have had problems with orders being wrong from here previously but we tried to give them another chance. I had emailed them and I specifically asked for a yellow cake, pineapple filling with cream cheese icing multiple times (i mentioned it multiple times in email exchanges) yet the icing that was put on it was butter cream. I have also ordered cakes from there in the past with cream cheese icing WITH WRITING yet I was told this time that there couldn't be any writing on cream cheese icing. At this point I knew they were not being honest but since it was last minute and approaching a holiday weekend I just said ok. I paid over $100 for a cake that was wrong and we didn't know until it was sliced and served during a birthday party. To pay the amount I paid for a cake I expect to get what I paid for. Oh...Ms. Virginia's cakes...YUMMY!!!! My hubs and I found her by chance when my original baker for my wedding unexpectedly...died. (Seriously, he was murdered.) So, in a rush, I went online looking for a new baker and VIOLA! there was Virginia's cakes. I gave her a very rough idea of what I wanted and gave her the "I have to have" list and the "if it looks good, do it" list and let her go to work. On my wedding day, when I first saw the cake, I cried. I was so beautiful: 3 tier white with plumeria cascading down. She made us a cake with 3 different flavors: strawberry, pineapple, and lemon filling between the lightest/fluffiest cake I have ever had! We ordered a total of 3 cakes (grooms, wedding, and my dad's bday cake) and they were all gone! (We only had about 50 pple at the wedding.) Ms. Virginia made a pool table for my hub's cake complete with bottles of soda on the rails, a pool cue, chalk, and the pool balls. It was awesome! Then for his birthday a month later, I ordered a set of cupcakes that she made into pool balls, complete with the triangle and the chalk. Ms. Virginia is incredibly creative and she is able to make the BEST cakes ever! We ordered our anniversary cake from her, another bday cake for my father, my hubby is getting me a bday cake from her, and I ordered another cake for his bday from her too. The ONE snag in the linen is that she has an assistant now that she didn't have before who is...pretty clueless. I emailed them on 12/2 to say I wanted the cake for hubs made (I've always emailed before and never called Ms. Virginia) but my hubby told me on 12/14 that there was no record of the order...WHAT?!? I re-emailed and the assistant told me "you have to call us to OFFICIALLY order the cakes" when I replied I never had to before and THAT GOLDEN PIECE OF INFO wasn't in the email and it SHOULD be, she just giggled. Went today to get a chocolate cupcake and to my disbelief, it was so small(looked like a mini). I asked the customer service lady why they were so small and she replied that the batch didn't rise as usual. First, if they aren't your typical cupcake size, don't sell them. Secondly, as a business owner, lower the price if this is the case. Thirdly, I had to ask them twice why they were so small before I got an answer by the reluctantly helpful staff member. Loved this place. It is mainly a bake shop and they only serve lunch Monday thru Friday. It is obvious that the target market is "ladies who lunch" during the week. We had the soup and sandwich combo. The shrimp bisque was yummy, though it might be a little rich and heavy during the summer. Cozumel Lime soup was like a chicken tortilla soup. It was served with a piece of jalapeno bread. I seriously could have licked the bowl, it was so good. We also had a french dip sandwich with fries. It was very good, though the real standout was the soup. If I were to go back I would get a large bowl of soup with an extra serving of the bread. A few have complained about the service, but I have no idea what happened in their scenario since we found everyone to be super helpful, but not pushy. We never felt rushed and my tea glass was never empty. I even spilled it and they cleaned it and replaced it so quick. The dessert case looked yummy. We had a slice of the classic white cake and an Italian cream cupcake. The cake was super moist. I would trust this place to make a special occasion cake based on what we tasted. Parking is plentiful and the cafe is wheelchair accessible. The bathrooms were also very clean. Looking forward to being a lady who lunch again! read more

I've had a few cakes made by Virginia in the past 10 years and all were excellent. The first imitated a design from a Southern Living magazine and really looked exactly like the photos. The fillings and the cake were delicious. I don't even like icing, but I enjoyed her buttercream! The more recent was a sculptured cake which was made to resemble a 1979 Ford Bronco. It was adorable. The cake really looked like the photos I submitted and the little details she added were great. The fondant icing did not taste that good, but I think that's just the nature of fondant. Fortunately, I also ordered a sheet cake and it was super tasty. Her price beat out the larger bakeries I called, too. I'm not a big fan of cake, but if I needed one, I would not hesitate to order from Virginia again. read more

She was not helpful at all when I asked questions, and seemed to not be interested in my business.
