I come here whenever I crave spaghetti and meatballs--they're always so delicious. I also love the gelato; I usually buy it by the quart so I can enjoy it later after work. The pastries are delicious too. It's one of my favorite spots for a great meal and a sweet treat. The place is usually not very busy, and I'm not sure why because their meals are absolutely delicious. People really should know about this spot and try how great the food is! You pass the gelato and bakery area on your way to order at the counter. I ordered the meatball sub and my spouse ordered the turkey croissant. The sub was large and the filling meaty. I liked that it came with chips and a small cookie. The iced tea was really watery, so that could be better. The reviews I've read for Viros have been a little disappointing, however this was not my experience. I wanted to start out by saying I am Italian so the bar is set high by my taste. With that I wanted to start with sandwiches. Fried fish is a thing on Fridays so I tried a sandwich with French fries and coleslaw. Excellent crispy fresh bun and condiments. I really enjoyed it. The star was the combo Italian sandwich with sausage and Italian beef on a hoagie type roll with cheese. Huge. Bigger than I expected. Heavy. That's when you know it's got some good portions of meat. Very old style crust and I didn't like that as much. They have lots of pastries and of course, other Italian items. I did try the cannoli and it was enjoyable, true to the positive reviews here. I was looking for a couple of scoops of green Italian olives, and not finding that I discovered and ate a delicious cheese and mushroom calzone! The tomato sauce was perfect! Good service: order at counter and meal is brought to you in a good-sized seating area. Many other people here enjoying spaghetti, fish fry, piping hot soup and gelato! Joined some friends here because one wanted to try the fish. Everyone but me had the fish. The consensus was the fish was not good. One person sent hers back because she couldn't even cut it and the new piece was still overcooked and rubbery. I had spaghetti with pesto which was OK but way over priced. A fantastic little gem on the Eastside! I ordered the meatball sub, and it was hands down the best meatball sub I've ever had in my life. The meatballs are MASSIVE, and the sauce-to-cheese ratio was perfect. The bun it is served on is crispy yet soft and delicious. Top notch. My husband ordered the fish fry, and we were surprised to see that his fish was tender and firm. Some fried fish falls apart when you put the malt vinegar on it and dip it in tartar, but not here! Deliciously crispy and thick pieces of fish. We also ordered a couple of Italian sodas and some gelato. Both were great. Service was also pleasant. The cakes looked good so we might go back for that, but their prices are high and we weren't all that impressed with the cookies. $16 a pound seemed a little high. Like you get from the super market. Very tacky. The spaghetti with Maranara Sauce was the size of a Stouffers Frozen Single Serving Dinner. Not a real serving . Stouffers would have been better. This horrible meal was $15.18. I was handed a menu with old pricing, my husbands was new pricing. The proprietor quickly snatched up the menu and handed me one with higher pricing. First of all, the hours posted here are incorrect, Viro's closes on most days at 3 pm. I went on a Saturday around noon to buy cookies and canoli for an upcoming birthday party. Cookies are actually delicious: fresh, buttery, good flavors. However the storefront and the eating area are dirty: shelves need to be dusted, railing along windows need dusting, floor has crumbs and dirt everywhere, sides of shelves have not seen a wet rag for a long time, you can see dirt marks where a mop probably relocated dirt from the floor to the sides of the shelves. Overall upkeep and decor follows a "run down" theme. Good thing customers cannot see the kitchen, I can only imagine... I decided to stay and order a sub sandwich, order placed at 12:29 pm, by 12:51 pm I asked if I would have to wait much longer. Observations on storefront and dining areea above were made during this long wait. For a sub. Was told the kitchen is behind, but two parties that ordered after me were served and eating their food. So I asked for a refund rather than waiting even longer. For a sub. I will not return to Viro's. My first visit bombed, it took 55 minutes to drive there, complete waste of time. PS: I ordered 4 canoli with "the works," they were given to me in a small pink cardboard box. Got home, opened box: 3 canoli (receipt shows I paid for 4), 1 had chocolate chips and cherries, 2 had chocolate chips and no cherries. Totally incompetent shop! One of my brothers just makes his too spicy, while yours are just perfect and mild! :) I was going to order a tuna sandwich, however, Anisa was nice to call me right away to let me know that they were out of Tuna (no worries, I already ate an early lunch and I couldn't eat until two hours after my root canal appointment anyway; she did ask if I wanted another sandwich instead, but, I had to regretfully decline. Always a family atmosphere and the food is always good. The bakery goods are yummy and fresh.

This is a great place to eat authentic Italian food. Its usually set up in deli mode, meaning you walk in and go to the register to place an order either To-Go or to dine in; but I know that at least on Friday nights (maybe Saturdays too?) that have full service dining meaning they have servers seating you and waiting tables. I think their meat lasagna is one of the best in town, much better than Olive Garden's sausage variety lasagna. But the best feature of this unique Italian Deli & Bakery are the baked treats. Make sure you stock up on some goodies to take home. My favorites are the mini cream puffs and the mini eclairs. read more
