I had high hopes for this joint, but unfortunately they weren't all met. The ambience I LOVED. Super modern, clean, hipster-- the usual Vancouver eatery vibe. It was the food that was a bit of a let down. As a recent lover of truffles and mushrooms, the superfunghi was a no-brainer. My friend ordered the margherita pizza so we could sample two different pies. The pizzas looked beautiful-- they looked so promising! We'll start with the superfunghi. I expected a ton of flavor from this pizza. With truffles as a key ingredient, it should have been packed with that savory flavor truffles are known for; however, this pie was anything but flavorful. It didn't have a tomato sauce as the base, which I think would have provided the pie with the acidity it lacked. The main flavor I detected was the spiciness from the rockets decorating the pizza. I'll give Virtuous Pie points for the imitation goat cheese. It had the consistency and flavor of goat cheese, which was impressive. I ended up dousing my pie with sriracha so I could taste something while eating my pie. As for my friend's margherita pizza, that had more flavor than mine did. The tomato sauce tasted fresh, and that's what carried this pizza. The cheese didn't taste like much. With that said, major points for the consistency of melted cheese! It was chewy and stringy like real melted cheese. For $10-12/pie, it wasn't a terrible experience. I would come back to sample the other pies, but am sad that the superfunghi was a bland culinary experience for me. read more

Mmm much better than the UBC location! The crust was nice and chewy (much more like regular pizza) and I liked the flavours I chose this time a lot better. I went with the Superfunghi which had great mushrooms on it. It was still slightly bland so the tableside "parmesan", sriracha, and chili pepper flakes were helpful. I also tried my friend's Street Corn and Pesto CBR. I think I liked the Sweet Corn the best because it was sweet and savoury (great if you like Hawaiian pizza!), loaded with corn kernels. I liked the "chicken" on the Pesto CBR but it was also slightly bland. We also shared some garlic knots and they were very delicious. Chewy and well seasoned by "parmesan" and "bacon", and of course, garlic. They didn't skimp on the garlic! The ranch dipping sauce it came with was also yummy. Walked into this place because I was working around the corner and the pickens were slim in that area for pescetarian friendly food. Fellow that worked there, perhaps owner, approached me and offered me a menu. As I read the menu he explained what their pizza's were all about. As he talked I read "nut based cheese" on the menu. I was about to walk out the door due to past experiences accidentally buying vegan cheeses at the grocery store, but I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the "stranger wings" pizza and it was surprisingly delicious. Great flavour, crust was thin with a good crisp and I couldn't tell I was eating non dairy cheese. I really wanted to like this place. I ordered two pies and a salad for dine in. While YVR isn't known for its pizza, I expected a lot more from Virtuous Pie given the positive reviews. However the pizza I ate tasted like it came from my middle school cafeteria. My dining partner agreed. Bread was thin and tasteless. Sauce was nothing special. Cheese tasted fine but nothing you can't find at a grocery store. The fake chicken on one of the pies was nice. Aside from the mediocre food, the service was fairly inattentive and cold. Went here with some friends who are vegan. As I'm not vegan, I wasn't sure I would enjoy a pizza that didn't have "cow" cheese on it. I was pleasantly surprised with this pizza though! You line up to order and then find your own seat. When we arrived, it was quite busy and we actually had to wait outside for a bit before they would even let us in to order. We were let inside after a few minutes and ordered the Superfunghi, Ultraviolet, and Stranger Wings. The wait for our pizza was only a few minutes as well. Enough time for a few seats to open up. As for the pizza, the Ultraviolet was, for lack of a better word, meh. The description made it sound amazing but it was definitely missing something. Maybe some spice. Not sure. The Superfunghi was decent, but the Stranger Wings was definitely the all around winner. I would have been happy to have ate that whole pizza on my own. Overall, I appreciated the flat crust, the crisp taste and that all pizza's were still tasty (even without "cow" cheese). I was also impressed that Virtuous Pie allows you to serve yourself water, which included both tap and sparkling, for no extra cost. I saw this reviewed on the front page of Yelp on September 21st, 2016 and decided to book mark this for future reference. As a proud carnivore I can appreciate vegan food if it's done right. Sadly there are only a few places that due vegan right, however, this one hit the mark. The space is large enough with some communal tables, therefore, anti-social Vancouverities will just have to get over themselves and share a table. I met some awesome ladies who randomly joined me in a singalong to the 4 Tops "I Can't Help Myself." For those who choose to be anti social there's wifi available. There was a bit of a wait for my pizza, therefore, I took the opportunity after those lovely ladies left to work on some draft notes for my zine. Everything is vegan and you can have a gluten free crust made out rice flour. Crust was crumbly but this was naturally expected considering the type of flour and the fact that to remain vegan they were unable to use a lean protein based binder. I did make a friendly suggestion via email that perhaps using flax meal would help bind it. It was my first time trying cashew cheese which I am a fan of. Coconut matcha ice cream was an interesting taste I had to get used to. Virtuous Pie's smallish brightly lit room with communal seating looks spacious up until around 6pm when the dinner rush starts and goes out the door. So come early or do takeout. At $12 per small pizza (one size only, and apparently no bulk discount) the price is OK for a basically thin-crust neapolitan style pizza. With this type of pizza and the typically sparsely distributed toppings, you are at great risk of having a slice with an OK amount of toppings, or too little; and it's also hard to get an even distribution of the stated ingredients. Don't believe the picture-perfect ad copy on the website and go see for yourself. Virtuous Pie isn't alone in uneven toppings for small, thin-crust pizza, so it's apparently a niche pizza sort of trait and you either accept it or you don't. Add 1 star / 1 point if you are vegan because beggars can't be choosers. We had separate orders of pizza (placed at different times) with the gluten-free crust (+$2 extra) and both times the crust came out undercooked, sticky and chewy in the middle, which resulted in an unpleasant distracting texture while eating it. (The regular pizza dough came out okay.) UltraViolet ($12) Walnut Pesto, Cashew Mozzarella, Oven Dried Tomatoes, Purple Kale, Caramelized Onion, Pine Nuts -Very oily probably due to pesto and olive oil (?) but didn't taste greasy. -Very uneven in ingredients and taste was OK. Zero points for presentation though. The Med ($12) Smokey Baba Ganoush, House Made Falafel, Feta, Roasted Red Peppers, Kalamata, Mint Chutney, Onion -Curry-flavoured falafel quite OK but looks like ours came out burnt and the chunks were dry. -Fake feta very, very, salty. The person who ordered this gave up with 2 slices left because it was so salty. Flower + Water ($12?) *-Looks like it uses the Field Roast fake meat which fakes a really good ground meat texture, and flavour is close to meat as well. Okay I might be a little slow, but it took me a little bit to realize that this was a 100% vegan Pizzeria. Especially since they use the word sausage and bacon in the menu, which I came to find out were vegan substitutes. LOL. Even so, there were a few pizza items that popped out to me on the menu I was down to try. The cashier recommended The Stranger wings as the most popular and enjoyed items on the menu so far, so I decided to give that a go. I also tried one of their two ice cream flavors of the day which was tumeric and black pepper - it was an interesting combination for sure, but not something that I would want for dessert. Anyways, the pizzas themselves are a little small, but I loved the crust - it was the perfect thickness and tasted clean - not super doughy - and the toppings were satisfyingly good! They make their cheese from scratch (nut based... Pretty darn good!) The stranger wings had a slight spice to it, the blue cheese wasn't too overwhelming and overall, it had, I'd say, the perfect amount of toppings. It doesn't look like a lot visually, but in this case, " less is more" - it wasn't oily nor unnecessarily packed with "stuff" - just quality items and ingredients, which made for a nice pizza and a filling one, at that. read more

I've been wanting to check out this pizza joint for a while now. Finally made it here :) I tried the Ultraviolet and the Superfunghi. Both have very distinct flavour profiles, I much prefer the Ultraviolet one. Pie is the right word for it, it didn't taste exactly like a pizza, it was more akin to pita bread with curated toppings on it. Kudos for making vegan food items appealing and tasty! However, I thought the menu was abit ambigious, as they are serving 33acres meatballs, are they vegan? Is virtuous pie an only vegan restaurant, or do they have comprehensive vegan options? That wasn't too clearly emphasized in my opinion, a tad deceiving. The ambiance was very hip, sporting a clean simple modern look. Almost self-service like but they do check in with you occasionally and clear your plates. I especially love the ice cream (maybe even more than their pies!). I tried the sample flight: Lemon blueberry: refreshing! Peanut butter cookie dough: very dense and authentic Pumpkin Pie: my favourite one by far! They most definitely nailed their 100% plant based ice cream profiles!!! Would definitely come back if I'm in the area and am craving healthy eating options. It's delicately flavoured and the crust is pretty good, a truffle almond ricotta paste adds a totally unexpected texture and flavour to the white pizza. It creates a soft, semi-moist and flavourful extra layer to an otherwise dry pizza. The atmosphere is relaxed and modern. Long bench tables with people at their laptops during happy hour should cue you in to the hipster clientele. read more

Love love love! Tried 5 pizza with friends. Stranger wings and Caveletto were stand out, so delicious. The Med and Kim Jon Il are defiantly worth a try. The Ultraviolet was a tad too dry for my liking, but still delicious. We went on a Friday night (line out the door upon arrival) and only waited 20mins for all 5 pizzas. I honestly don't feel like it's fair of me to judge this place, because I'm not a vegan and the words "cashew" and "cheese" kind of bum me out. I have to give it to to VP, because they are nothing if not innovative and determined. They came with a vision and they are making it happen. I just don't think they made it happen for me. My 'Superfunghi' was cakey and nutty in all the ways you'd expect an ACTUAL pie to be, but all the ways you don't want your pizza pie to be. The mushrooms and arugula complement each other beautifully but nothing can mask that unnecessary nut taste. If I'm not mistaken, the base to my (what would normally be a white sauce) pizza was mashed potatoes, I think. The one thing they did right was that wood-fired crust. I must include that my husband's initial experience was entirely different. His kimchi pizza was tantalising and novel, pairing well with his brew. After a while though, the raw taste of pure kimchi and nothing but slivered green onion got to him and he had to alternate between pieces of my bland pie to momentarily dull the intense flavours. Perhaps we didn't order the right thing, or perhaps this place is best suited to the better people among us-the vegans but all around a go-if-you-must place for me, but certainly not one I'd recommend to just anyone. read more

If I choose this pizza 14" for $30 I absolutely trust I'm getting something decent in return but getting undercooked pizza it's really disappointing. So please cook your pizza thoroughly please. I've heard of this problem from friends but this time it was my turn. I won't be placing orders if this problem persists. So if you want to charge premium you have to deliver premium. Better yet reduce your prices by 2 dollars to better reflect what you are selling. Lovely! Finally a dedicated pizza place to vegans! My only grip is that they use cashew cheese - not daiya, so nut/dairy allergic me still had to go cheese-less. Their pizza crust is really good. It's super thin and has a great crunch to it! Something a lot of people overlook when they come to Virtuous is their ICE-CREAM! Gawd it's so good. Unfortunately for me, they usually only have 1 nut-free flavour on hand. VP, please consider expanding your coconut milk line!! :'( The space is pretty small so get a friend to grab a table while you're waiting in line, spots fill up quickly! It's also ridiculously warm in there from the pizza ovens, a great place to stake out during the freezing cold winter months lol. read more

I really liked 2 out of the 3 pizzas that my friends and I got. We got the Margherita, the curry mile and the Kim-jack pizza. The only pizza that was just meh to me was the curry mile because it doesn't have much of a punch to it and the curry flavor is there but could be better. Other than that the Kim jack with the (jack fruit "meat) was really tasty and reminded me of Korean barbecue! It was a tad salty for my tastes but still great. The Margherita was also good and had a good ratio of sauce and their vegan mozzarella. With so many amazing pizza places in Vancouver and the fact that I have no dietary restrictions, it took me a while to check out virtuous pie - despite the endless recommendations I've heard. When I finally made plans to go, it was clear at the first bite that it is definitely worth the hype!! I got the superfunghi and my friend got the artichoke and chorizo. I LOVED my pizza! The truffle was decadent as anticipated and it was topped with fresh, fun arugula. My favourite was the cashew cheese! Of course, it doesn't have the same texture as perfect stringy mozzarella, but cashew is so rich that it just soaked up the truffle oil and became pizza base extraordinaire because it didn't really have any particular sauce. It tasted so good I didn't mind that it wasn't dairy cheese. I liked my friend's pizza but mine was the absolute bomb. I would try other things on the menu but superfunghi doesn't mess around. To top it off I had a cookie dessert topped with rocky road ice cream (also vegan and that also wasn't a bad thing). If all vegan food was this delicious I'd say that vegans aren't missing out on anything!! But at least I can smile knowing that they have virtuous pie as a tasty option. Also the space was cute, on the small side, but as long as you don't mind the communal table life, it's all good. You have to line up & get your own pizza, grab your own water and then pray to God someone evacuates the community table which was not cleared or cleaned once in the hour we stayed after multiple people rotated the spot. Easily some of the best pizza I've had in a long while. I'm vegetarian myself, meaning I could still technically eat normal crust and such, but I always personally choose to come to Virtuous for pizza. All of the flavours are delicious, with the Ultraviolet, Stranger Wings, and Margarita being my favourites. The ice cream is quite a treat too, with a sweet and creamy flavour to it. This place is 100% the best pizza I've ever had, ever. Even 100% better than any memory I may have of non vegan pizza, prior to becoming vegan. I have turned so many people, vegans and non vegans, onto this place. It is just unreal. My personal favorites include the Stranger Wings (SO GOOD) and the Ultra Violet. The kale salad is insanely good. Also make sure to try the ice cream, probably the best ice cream I have EVER had! This review is solely based on my experience with the food delivered to the office today and perhaps that was our mistake. Do not order pizza that will be delivered via ubereats. They opened at 12pm and we placed our order then, didn't get our food delivered till 1pm. Our office is central downtown Vancouver. By the time we got our food, it was cold and soggy and the pizza looked like it's been tossed around a few times or dropped. One of the pizza was incorrect even though we called the restaurant to confirm after placing the order. The Mac n cheese was ok but nothing special and also arrived luke warm. No utensils or napkins provided, luckily I had a pair of disposable chop sticks or else I would eating Mac n cheese with my hands. The restaurant said they will provide a refund for the incorrect pizza but 2 days later, still nothing. We tried to work it out with both UberEats and the restaurant, but neither wants to take ownership. We were all very excited to try this place after one of our coworkers raved about it, but after this experience we likely will not be ordering from them again or giving their dine in a try. read more

I ordered the $10.00 pizza deal that they have with uber eats this evening. The first order said it would be delivered in 2 minutes and then cancelled for no reason last minute after waiting an hour and fifteen minutes. I called uber eats and they informed me that virtuous pie had give the order the the wrong person. I re ordered that order and waited another hour and they same last minute cancellation occurred. I called uber eats and they informed me that virtuous pie did not complete the order. Very disappointed. If you are having a promotion I strongly suggest you back it up. Won't be back.
