Just renewed my online subscription for the This is Plant Curious plant based deals, and when I saw the BOGO free deal for Virtuous Pie, I *had* to get over here. This place is known for making vegan pizzas but they do other dishes too besides vegan pizza. To be honest, I came here once to try their pizza. The pizza was decent but I wasn't blown away by it. In terms of taste, I thought it was pretty good. However, I felt that the vegan cheese they used had a bit too much oil in it. The pizza was a bit too greasy for my taste. What drew me in about the plant based deal though was that it could be used for other dishes; not just their pizza. The dish that I had my eye on was the Vegan Mac n Cheese skillet. My daughter and I both love Mac n Cheese, and I am always on the lookout for a good vegan Mac n Cheese. We have tried Vegan Mac n Cheese in a few places. Not that many, but so far the ones we've tried have been decent. I would have to say though that after trying this one at Virtuous Pie, this one is my new favourite out of all the vegan Mac n Cheese dishes that we've tried! Still doesn't compare with the real thing but for a vegan Mac n Cheese...this one was pretty darn good. Love the vegan bacon bits they topped it with! It was a huge serving. I saw on the menu that there were 2 sizes to the dish but when I ordered it, the person taking our order never bothered to ask if we wanted small or large. Based on the amount in our bowl, and the amount that my bill came to, I have a feeling they gave us both the large size. Would have been nice to have been asked which size we wanted. Or if there's no choice in the size for the BOGO deal, then it would have been nice to have been informed about that. Didn't feel like squabbling about it though, and the larger size meant leftovers for the next day which meant I didn't have to worry about what to serve my daughter for lunch the next day. If you're a Mac n Cheese lover in search of a good vegan version, then I'd highly recommend this Mac n Cheese skillet at Virtuous Pie!

The taste was pretty decent for non-meat dishes. Don't expect the same usual tastes but everything was well made, flavours were balanced, fresh and seasoned properly. The soul of the pizza, the dough, was properly made, light and flavoursome and paired well with all the ingredients. Staff was friendly as well and the restaurant had modern, bright atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Love this place. I used to go to the UBC location when I was a student there and was bummed when it closed, but now am lucky to be living closer to Chinatown so I can come here. It's great vegan food. They make their own vegan cheese and it's fantastic. It's not the most "realistic" vegan cheese but it's delicious in its own right with a great texture. They have both classic pizzas and more creative, unique flavours. Sometimes there are seasonal specials. I've loved just about every pizza I've tried. It's a thin crust but still tender. For dessert, there's a rotating selection of vegan ice creams, "cannoli", and cookies. Haven't tried the cookies yet, but the ice cream is great with interesting flavours. I feel like this is a pretty slept-on spot for vegan ice cream. The "cannoli" are actually tubular waffle cones with a cream filling, so it's not exactly the same experience as true cannoli, but still tasty and decadent. You order at the counter and then staff brings your order to you. They're super friendly and provide great service.

Wow. Some of the most amazing pizza I've ever had, and I would've never known its vegan! The Ultraviolet is my favourite but they're all so good! Also love their Kale Caesar Salad, I honestly crave it. Can't wait to order from here again. Highly recommended!

Amazing service and super friendly staff. Didn't have one bad or mediocre vegan dish. Also, just a very cute vibe to the restaurant where you can watch the cook ovenfire pizza and add final touches to your dishes. Def recommend the Mac & cheese skillet and garlic knots -- star dishes.

First time to this pizza joint but won't be my last! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Fun to be able to watch them make the pizzas. Loved the vibe of the place with long tables and benches to share for a communal dining or fill a table up with all your friends. My son and I shared a funghi and a Hawaiian summer. The crust was absolutely perfect - enough to hold all the toppings without feeling like you were eating too much bread. There is a thick crust and a gluten free option as well. The funghi was delicious with a truffle cream that was amazing. The bbq sauce was the perfect addition to the Hawaiian giving it a sweet and smoky flavor. The best vegan pizza I've had!!

The first time we came here, we ordered the bbq pizza and the ultra Violet pizza for take out. But when we got home, we had gotten a margarita instead of the ultraviolet. Bummer. But both pizzas were incredibly delicious especially the bbq cauliflower one! Oh my gosh we'll be craving that forever. Best pizza even before I was plant-based/vegan. We went back the next night to reorder the ultraviolet so we could taste it. They gave it to us for free because of what happened- so nice! The ultraviolet has good flavor but it was sopping wet in oil. I am not sure if that pizza is meant to be that wet and oily or if the chef was new, or there was a mistake but I would not have gone back if this was my first experience. Luckily the first night's pizza was so good that I'm happy to give this place five stars. Plus their waffle cone cannoli was fantastic as well. Definitely go try this place whether you are vegan or not because it's so unique and yummy. The staff is nice. It's clean and cute inside.

Superfunghi Pizza

Delicious handcrafted pizza and you can taste the effort. I had the Superfunghi and it was very good, I only wish it had stronger truffle flavors as advertised as it was missing. Dipped in the vegan garlic ranch it was excellent. The service was friendly in this small fast casual spot. Ambiance was nice and clean and hip with larger tables that could accommodate big groups. I would return to try more dishes and would recommend to any vegans or plant based patrons seeking unique & thoughtfully crafted pizza.

Stranger wings, Carne asada, Ultraviolet
Mel J.

If all vegan pizza were all this good, I would eat it everyday!!! I order 3 pies: stranger wings, carne asada & ultraviolet for my family. Stranger wings was absolutely the favorite! The cauliflowers 'wings' were cooked perfectly - not soggy! The sauce was super tasty! Just like eating the real wings sauce. Order this if you're hesitant to try vegan pizza!!! Our second favorite was carne asada. We were surprised that the vegan steak curls were super delicious! The pineapple gave a fresh palate cleanser that complimented the pizza. The Ultraviolet was good too but the other 2 pies blown our taste buds so much that overshadowed it. Personally, I think that the cashew mozzarella is the important ingredient that makes all the pizza tasted delicious! The crust had the perfect thickness that the pizza wasn't soggy. I would definitely order more!!!

One thing I've been searching for for YEARS now is a vegan Hawaiian pizza. There is plenty of good vegan pizza out there, but for some reason no one ever offers Hawaiian! Well, I finally got to achieve my dreams at Virtuous Pie! The pizza was so delicious! The crust is thin and crispy. There was a great balance of sauce, cheese, and toppings. They have still and sparkling water on tap and a huge assortment of appetizers, salads, desserts, and drinks. I wish I had been more hungry to try more different items. The interior is very sleek and modern and it was a super comfortable place to relax for a while and enjoy my pizza. It seems to be a great family-friendly spot also. Service was friendly and fast. Would definitely recommend!

Got virtuous pie for the first time! Ordered takeout. Pizza was tasty but soooo oily. Side garlic ranch was a good addition.

Pierogi and raspberry lemonade

While visiting Vancouver we stopped at Virtuous Pie (we also have them in Oregon). It was delicious they have the same pizza options. We ordered the Pie-rogi which is to die for it's my favorite and an order of the garlic knots. I love the garlic knots they are seasoned so well. The pizza was delicious and has the best fake bacon on it -I really have no idea how they make it so good. The service was fast we had our appetizer in 5 minutes and our pizza in under 10 minutes. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is really cute too with nice brick walls and dividers between the tables. The lemonade flavors they had were very tasty we got raspberry and pineapple. If you had to choose go raspberry. Great overall experience and I have no complaints. Very good value for price.

Ok ok, what's better than driving to Canada to eat vegan food, I'll tell you .. driving to Canada to eat vegan food while meeting new vegan friends! We decided to meet up at Mila Plant-Based, 100% vegan restaurant in the downtown area sort of right in-between Downtown Eastside, Science World, and Gastown. The restaurant has a lovely, quaint ambiance, feels very welcoming upon entering. The bathroom was .. well, posh! I don't normally make a point to comment on bathroom decor, while average in size, I felt like I was being upgraded to First Class lol. Ok, moving right along .. lol They have two menus, a Weekend Brunch Menu and, for all other hours, a Lunch/Dinner Menu, ..we ordered from the Weekend Brunch Menu. I had the Bibimbap Bowl - rice bowl with Yo Egg, mushroom bacon, kimchi, tempura yam, cucumber, carrot, gochujang sauce. This bowl had many layers of unique flavors all married perfectly in every exquisite bite, I say this very sincerely! My wife ordered the Pina Colada Pancakes - pancakes, toasted coconut syrup, cashews, cocktail cherries, rum-candied pineapple, mint. Each bite easily lived up to the the decadence displayed in the included image. We absolutely have to find our way back to Mila to try their Lunch/Dinner menu as it includes some amazing sounding options such as, Feta Stuffed Date - date, feta, pistachio, olive oil, maldon salt, ABURI LOX OSHI - carrot lox, aburi sauce, shiso, serrano, 6 pieces, Tuna Crispy Rice - watermelon akami tuna, sushi rice, lime kewpie mayo, green onion, sesame seeds, 3 pieces, and much more. We had quite a few options to choose from regarding where to meet for brunch, with every option sounding wonderful in their own way. Ultimately, we decided on Mila because of their unique, fresh and inspiring sounding dishes and yeah, they did not disappoint. Thanks so much for dropping by and reading this review. Do yourself a favor and extend the same courtesy to Mila by ... dropping by .. and enjoying some amazing tasty food.

The restaurant was decorated nicely, but nothing remarkable so I was surprised by the presentation of the food!

What a great place to have vegan pizza!…read more I am amazed with all the flavors and the crust is just the yummiest! I've got their Freaky Greeky pizza. I had the Freaky Greeky with a yam-cassava crust. I chose that since the menu board boasted it's vitamin and mineral content. Sold!!! It had (what I assume was) Daiya Mozzarella and Cashew style feta, black olives, tomatoes, basil and walnuts. I have to say that the walnuts were the most pleasant surprise of the toppings. An added crunch and some true delicious flavor!! The crust, being GF and the specific ingredients, led it to be quite crunchy, but I love crunchy crusts. I hadn't had lunch but a few hours prior so I had half the pizza at dinner, than half before bed after drinks! Yum!!! My husband had the Samsara Sausage pizza. He said it was just okay. He said the sausage tasted like a Light life Hot Dog. Which is obviously NOT what you're going for with sausage. Our friends shared the Buffalo Buddha pizza and gave hubby their last piece. He said that was quite nice and he'd have had that again. They too had the GF Yam-cassava crust. I'd definitely get this pizza again but I would NOT walk here and preferably be in a group for safety.

In the Bay Area we have Shizen/Tane and which I can safely say are still pretty different from Vegan Shoku. (Both are so good!!). Vegan Shoku uses konjac-based sashimi which allows for sashimi and nigiri that looks like its conventional fish counterparts. Today, we ordered 1. Salmon Eggplant This reminded me of nasu dengaku but with a "salmon salad" (think tuna salad) on top of charred eggplant. There was a miso sauce, the same that's used for nasu dengaku dressing the entire thing. The eggplant was creamy but not oil-laden, and the salmon worked nicely with the eggplant and miso dressing. Every bite was perfection. Each bite was garnished with fried carrot strings and beet. Sooooo good! 2. Shoku Roll We figured we should definitely order this since it's the restaurant's namesake. Since it was topped with mango & a popping boba, it had a hint of sweetness which was refreshing. 3. Dynamite Roll Absolutely gorgeous roll that packed as much flavor as it did color. The sweet, savory, creamy and crunchy.... this roll takes you on a journey and more! 4. Teriyaki Beef Roll Don't ask questions, just order this! It's like a beef donburi in roll form. 5. Salmon Nigiri I've never been a fan of seafood so this was a bit of a risky pick. Sure enough, it was too realistic for me so I had to hand it off to my bf to finish. For those who love and miss the taste of salmon, this is a must try! 6. Takoyaki While this looked like takoyaki, it definitely wasn't. They were still tasty but they were more like meatballs than anything. Takoyaki is supposed to have chunks of octopus (which when I make it at home, I use konyaku), shredded cabbage, ginger in a savory pancake-like batter cooked in a ball-shaped cast iron mold, topped with aonori, mayo and brown sauce. The meatballs were in a brown sauce of some kind and were incredibly robust and meaty. They were too meaty for my liking (some mock meats sort of gross me out!) but that's more of a preference thing and doesn't speak to the quality. It was very flavorful, it just wasn't for me. 7. Matcha Ice cream The ice cream looked like it was slice from a cake! Maybe they peeled back the paper carton of the ice cream and cut a slice from that. It looked super surgical and clean, like art! The flavor was super robust and matcha-y. It was not the typical (disappointing) green-colored ice cream that tasted mostly of vanilla and had hints of match. This was the real deal! What a rare find! It extremely pricey but it more than made up for all the times I've ordered green-colored matcha imposter ice creams, so get this if you are a matcha lover! Being how uncommon these types of restaurants are, the server was super patient in answering my questions and was helpful in making suggestions too. If I find myself in BC in the future, you can bet I'll be making another stop in here to try other items on their menu. This was such a treat!!

I had a Plant…read moreCurious BOGO deal too so I was able to use that for a couple of Oshi sushi orders.  The food wasn't bad but honestly not as good as I had hoped. I think there was a bit too much rice used in the sushi. Smaller amounts of rice would have been preferred. Also, we found that the Salmon Avocado Oshi tasted just like the Tuna Avocado Oshi. Either that, or they gave us two identical sushi orders by mistake instead of 1 Salmon Avocado Oshi and 1 Tuna Avocado Oshi. I was kinda bummed that they didn't have their vegan spam that day. Hoping to go back some other day and try it. If it weren't for the vegan spam though, I probably wouldn't bother coming back to this restaurant again. Pains me to say that as I'm usually a huge supporter of plant based restaurants but...this restaurant was really just OK for me. Not horrible, but aside from wanting to try their vegan spam...the food just wasn't good enough for me to want to come back again.

The venue is nice and big and airy, with the 2 walls of solid windows. Great for people watching. The place is definitely modern and hipster looking. Maybe because it was a slow day, but staff were a bit lacking. Buddy and I walked in there and the place was empty. We looked around for a few minutes and literally nobody showed up. It was only after we had left and taken a few steps before someone suddenly appeared and motioned for us to come back inside. Although my buddy insisted the place sold burgers, something looked off. I also noticed the sign advertising "fysh tacos". The menu also listed a "chick'un burger". Confirmed with the waitress that the place is indeed 100% vegan. Oops. Oh well, we're here. Might as well give them a try. The chick'un burger is actually a slice of mushroom that has been battered and fried like fried chicken. Not sure if this is supposed to be the case, but the mushroom itself was actually quite bitter. Fortunately the batter masked the taste. The fries are pretty decent here. I also tried the Crispy BBQ burger. This thing tastes more like the run of the mill vegan patties out there in supermarkets. I think it was soy/tofu based. Interestling enough, the burgers actually have a Beyond upgrade for an additional fee, so I imagine the standard burger patties are made in house. I guess the place is worth checking out if one is vegan, but for those who aren't, there unfortunately isn't much for us here. I did hear the coffee here is pretty decent though. Maybe I'll give it a try next time.
