I have to start by saying that I didn't get my exam here, but I did spend a lot of money on two frames. Twice now, following a text I received earlier in the same day, I drove to pick up my frames, only to learn that one they weren't open or two they closed earlier in the day. The second time this happened I knew that it wasn't the day they were closed so figured I would show up and it would be fine. Only now to realize that their days are alternating with an early close schedule. The fact that I receive a text without this information included is really frustrating. When I did show up on a day they were open, I wasn't acknowledged when I walked in. The person at the desk continued to help the two people at the table. I was given no indication that I would be helped at any time. I didn't even sit down, I simply stood there because I feared that I wouldn't get acknowledged and therefore wouldn't get helped. And, because I knew they were closing within 30 minutes of my arrival, I didn't want to risk missing another opportunity. They even tried to close out someone who had completed an eye exam in the meantime, without even first acknowledging me. I will say, this differs greatly from when I was helped by a female on my first visit. She was extremely helpful and wonderful. But, given these other frustrations I can't give a higher review. I haven't actually gone back to get my second set of frames now since they're closed. read more

This review is just regarding frame adjustment. I called on a Saturday afternoon to see if they could adjust a pair of glasses I bought online, since my attempts at home were not succeeding. They scheduled me an appointment for the same afternoon. The guy at the front desk quickly made some adjustments to get the glasses to sit level on my face and not slide down my nose. I am thankful for the excellent customer service (even though I wasn't technically a customer since I didn't buy my frames or get an eye exam there). I had a look around the office and they carry some cute styles. Going to keep this place in mind the next time I need a vision exam. read more

Dr Radbert chin has been caring for my fragile eyes for the last decade. I have a high prescription and astigmatism and just issues but Dr chin has the most modern and up to date machines and knowledge to make sure I am properly checked. I love that he doesn't use the puff in the eye or the old school ways of checking your eyes. It's so easy and painful less. During the exam itself, he is extremely thorough in checking your eyes and he airs on the side of conservative when increasing or decreasing your prescription. He does a contact lenses check to make sure your lenses are okay to continue to use (if you use rgp's like me) and they still fit properly on your eyes and that they are giving you the best vision possible when on. He also does an eyeglass fit check to adjust them to make sure they are aligned and fit properly and you can see the best. He is extremely thorough in both contact and eyeglasses checks. Lastly his eyeglass selection is top tier. He carries high quality titanium frames which is super important for people like me with strong prescriptions who still want to be stylish. Finally his staff is all so sweet and accommodating with scheduling and making sure you get your glasses and contacts in a timely manner. Love coming here to get my eyes checked because I know I'm in the hands of an expert and up to date modern doctor. read more

Wow, the front desk man on Saturday mornings is extremely unfriendly and weird. I don't have much time to shop for frames so have been waiting to come here for 2 weeks after dropping my son off at his activity in the same shopping plaza. Both weeks, the store didn't open at 10 am as stated, but the front desk man comes in 30 min late. I walked in today and he gave no greeting or acknowledgement even though I was the first customer in the store. I asked him about frame prices and he stared at me as if this was a crazy question. Similarly no acknowledgement when I was leaving the store. I haven't seen the optometrists here, but the front desk man made me feel so uncomfortable that I definitely will not be back. read more

So sad I've been trying to make an appointment for almost a month now without any luck. I call, nobody answers. I try to schedule via their website, each of their responses take over a day leading to a painfully long process just to schedule one appointment. Not sure if they need to hire more help but I've been coming here for years and am sad I'll need to look elsewhere now... I'm running out of contacts! read more

I would say their optometrist service is great and would give them 5 stars for a previous appointment I had there but I scheduled my next annual visit and had the most confusing experience today. I received this confirmation email a month ago when I scheduled and despite it saying "see you then" on the date and time I showed up (12/22/21 at 4pm), when I arrived the girl at the front counter told me that I also needed to receive a confirmation text and that their schedule was full. I went to the correct address at redwood shores and nowhere in this email does it say that I also need a confirmation text. I'm pretty shocked they turned me away - I left quietly confused. I won't be going back here and suggest you don't or if you do, call ahead so that you ensure they don't schedule over your confirmed appointment. read more

They have very poor customer services. Calls go unreturned for days if not longer. Impossible to get an actual human on the other end.

I ordered a edge polished glasses but I noticed that my new glasses were not edge polished at all. I tried to make an appointment several times to show them the issue, but it took them hours to reply your text and simply decline your calls. I spent my whole afternoon just simply trying to make an appointment but I failed. Super slow response by text. Calls won't be answered and never call you back! Definitely won't recommend. read more

This place has gone down after being relatively reliable previously- the front staff does not return calls - I have been trying to reach them to get new lenses ordered and they they don't get back. The prescription being recommended is wrong and they don't have the time to fix it and replace the wrongly ordered contacts - why would you come here? In addition they won't hand over the prescription and say it will be emailed and no email is ever sent. read more

I really didn't like my last optometrist, so I was happy to see that Dr. Kim and Christian from the front desk were both really nice and helpful. I went to see Dr. Kim because I've always had issues with my contacts drying out, so he was really patient and helped me try out some new contacts that I've never had before (hybrid hard/soft contacts). The first pair didn't go so well, but the second pair seems to be a lot better. He even ordered other types of lenses for me to try in the near future so that we can finally settle in on one that works for me. Their womens frames selection is not that large, and there aren't brands like Chanel, kate spade, Tory Burch, Tom Ford, etc. so if those brand names are important to you, you may want to go somewhere else. However, they do stock a lot of Oliver Peoples, Ray Ban, Oakleys, etc. read more

I always have the greatest experience with both the doctor and the assistant here. They are so helpful. I just came in yesterday to order more contacts, and the doctor was able to give me a sample of contacts to last me through the week before I get the new shipment. Every appointment goes fast and the doctor really gets to know you. I would definitely recommend going here for all of your glasses, contacts, eye exams needs. read more

I've been going to Dr. Chin for a few years at two different locations, most recently in Redwood City. They take Covid precautions seriously and they admitted me on-time with no delay. The exam itself only took a few minutes. After the exam Dr. Chin asked if I had any questions and answered them all without hurrying me out the door. Zero pressure to pick up frames, especially since my prescription was going to be minimal anyway. I checked out what sunglasses they had and were super patient as I'm picky and took my time looking at what options they had available. I asked a dozen questions about my insurance coverage and what could be covered, and picked out a couple of Ray Bans for a really reasonable price after insurance kicked in. read more

Thanks to Yelp in this find! Went to another local optician and was not impressed with their pushiness. Even with my insurance and frame allotment, I would have been better off going out of pocket elsewhere... and I'm glad I did because that is how I found VisionOne. The right next door to Starbucks and the Falafel joint, I'm sure I walked by it many times. From the first phone call, Roxane was kind, professional, patient with my insurance questions, efficiently looked me up and got me scheduled right away. Excellent selection and price ranges, fair pricing and very high quality customer service to boot. Roxanne went the extra step, genuinely listened to what I was looking for, helped me pick out certain sizes and colors and was patient with the process. Sometimes people get annoyed when you're trying to make a decision, but not here, no pressure at all. They're welcoming and kind, and I appreciate your local business. Was expected to be seen by Dr Chin. Well, it was not the case. When I asked the dr who did my eye exam for a business card, the answer I got was those were being printed. Showed up for a 1:30 appointment, when I walked in was notified I needed a mask. of Course they did not have any. Website does not have any information about masks. Walked back to the car, got a mask and returned. mentioned that it might be a good idea to mention it on the website. I was lectured that "it says it on the door". I replied it doesn't help people showing up without masks, they repeated "it says it on the door". I told them it sounded redundant and belittling, then asked what concept of customer service were they practicing. In fact I have not experienced a service provider of any kind where I was treated like this as a new customer. The exam rooms looked suspect also, this is a shady operation. Amazing customer service. Informative, courteous, and personable. From the doctors to the staff, can't give enough praise. Store is also neat and clean. Brought in my own frames and they told me I'd be able to pick them up in roughly a week to a week and a half. Got a text two days later saying my glasses were ready for pick up. My vision is definitely in good hands. The entire staff is friendly and quite knowledgeable. They recommended an alternative brand of contact lenses which was a HUGE improvement- no more annoying dry eyes and bulk purchasing of re-wetting drops. This was the first time I visited VisionOne Optometry, with Dr. Chin, and you can bet I'll be going back. I have astigmatism and use both contacts and eyeglasses, and recently had been experiencing eye-fatigue and dry eyes. I wondered if it was from my contact lenses, which I prefer over my glasses (for work). I previously wore monthly lenses, and I noticed that I was not able to wear them for longer periods of time as I used to. Unfortunately, I'm lazy, and don't clean my contacts as often as I should. That's when it occurred to me that I should probably look into getting daily disposable lenses. I knew it would come with a bigger price tag, but when it comes to your comfort and vision, it really shouldn't be a question - especially if it affects your daily health and well-being. For me, it had definitely reached that point. My eye discomfort had begun affecting my work. I went to VisionOne because of all the fantastic reviews, and sure enough, it exceeded my expectations. I have referred Dr. Chin to my friends and my Fiancee because of their excellent service. Dr. Chin spent a whopping 45 min. with me for my first appt, (I wasn't seeing properly with the first few lenses I tried on), and he didn't rush to ensure that my new contacts were going to work out perfectly. He asked me questions about myself and my life, and made me feel like he genuinely cared about me. My followup went quickly and I was able to order my new contacts. Check them out! I wanted to give Dr. Chin a 6-star rating if they have it. Dr. Chin beats all the optometrists and the ophthalmologist that I have ever seen. He is the only one that can figure out the underlying cause of my vision and eye problems that I have experienced for the past few years. He is not just knowledgeable, but he is also patient, diligent, and methodical enough to test, verify his theory and spend time to explain to me. Background: I am at an age that needs reading glasses for the past few years. I have minor myopia (near-sighted, can't see far) with one eye much better than the other. I also have astigmatism and again one eye better than the other. I have found that my better eye (that can see far) is more tired than the other. But strangely enough, I constantly use my weaker eye to read instead, especially reading my phone in the morning with my weaker eye while my stronger eye is closing (still sleeping/resting). I have also observed that my better eye occasionally looks like going inwards (towards the center). I was worried that I have a lazy eye at one point and checked with my ophthalmologist at Kaiser. After a few tests, the Kaiser's ophthalmologist concluded that there is nothing wrong. None of the prescriptions from other optometrists work for me either, so I gave up using any glasses. Luckily I did not totally give up and found Dr. Chin. Unlike other optometrists that solely rely on the machine to measure and give you an eye prescription, Dr. Chin manually verified my prescription by putting on those lenses for me to try on and re-adjust the prescription to the point that I feel comfortable with it. He actually was able to figure out an 0.125 difference (even they don't make 0.125 increments in eyeglasses). Anyway, Dr. Chin's efforts in giving me a custom-fit prescription make a huge difference, I finally wear my eyeglasses for the first time (after throwing at least 5 pairs aways. My eyes do not feel as tired as I used to be. More importantly, he amazes me when he was the only one be able to figure out the cause and mystery behind my eye problems that I have been experiencing. So, I highly recommend Dr. Chin to anyone - from kids to seniors, especially those who have a hard time getting the right prescriptions that fit you and those who are switching from near-sighted to far-sighted. read more

My understanding is that this Redwood Shores location is an extension of the Daly City & Pleasanton clinics, both of which I have never visited. But I found the RW Shores location when they were offering a special on eye exams. I recently purchased frames from them, and found the office staff to be extremely genuine and helpful during my exam and search for glasses! Dr. Chin and Christian (front desk) both helped me perform a search for the perfect frame for my strong prescription and the best fit for my face. They looked at the frame selection, told me about the measurements on the inside of the frame and its meanings, offered suggestions when questions arose, but ultimately left the decision up to me... and I couldn't be happier with the frames I received. I will definitely return to this location for future optometry needs, and for the professional staff! read more

Amazing customer service and visit. I took off 2 starts because the appearance wasn't very great it was kind of smelly in the office and really dirty. If they did some house keeping and cleaned it up and make it look better it would be so much better! Coming from an ocd neat freak I didn't really want to try glasses on because they were all dusty the floors were messy and the Windows had hand prints all over them the trash and were overfilling. My wife and I moved to Redwood Shores in July of 2013, and needed to change around our healthcare providers. We found VisionOne on Yelp, and decided to give them a shot. I walked in the door. Ours eyes met. I knew it was destiny. Getting my eyes checked is now an experience that I look forward to. Dr Chin and Christian always make the appointments stress free and enjoyable. These guys are both super personable, and will never have you feel like you are not a priority. Service is always very quick and efficient, but you never leave feeling like you were rushed. I was a patient under my former optometrist who moved to this practice. Then, he left optometry (temporarily?) but left me in good hands! Even though I work in SJ mostly, I would still head out this way (talk about loyalty!) or to Pleasanton if I head that way. I haven't tried the Daly City one. Here at Redwood Shores, the two docs and Christian at the front desk provide great service. They work with you. For example, I have sucky vision insurance which offer pathetic coverage, but they still work with you to make the best choice. No pressure to buy through them. They will give you an eye exam and give your the prescription to take with you. Overall, great service and knowledgeable doctors using nifty tools. read more

Dr. Chin, Christian, and staff are the best! Dr. Chin really goes above and beyond to help you and is incredibly patient. He taught me how to put on contacts at 28 (an incredibly difficult task to learn at that age), helped me find the right contacts that were comfortable (we went through many different brands), and even helped me pick out some stylish eye glasses (with Christian's help who also rocks!).
