Great customer service at this location (JC). My original eye exam and prescription glasses are from the Kingsport location. I feel the JC Visionworks is better suited for my needs and is more customer focused. Easy to find from the highway. Don't need an appointment for adjustments or pickups. read more

Dr. David Spangler refused to take the time to TRY and make my wife's vision better or even explain what was happening. He did say she had a lot of scar tissue and that she needs glasses and to follow up with her eye surgeon. In fact,, within 10 seconds of her looking at normal size letters, he gave up, switched to some of the largest letters I have seen, and that is what he based the entire eye screening on for the one eye having issues. I wouldn't even attempt to make that eye see any clearer. So, we thought he was rude but accepted her fate...she really needs glasses. We get the text that her glasses are in, so we both head down to pick them up and she can't see any better. Mind you, two days prior to getting this text, she has a follow up with her eye surgeon where they do an exam and can have her reading and seeing distance without issue. We are told by the staff that the doctor said she will not get better vision than 20/80. I explain to them the experience at the eye surgeon and the experience with Spangler. They have my wife try the glasses for a while anyway. Needless to say, we have returned the glasses, contacted corporate to get the refund of the eye exam...and thanks to a second opinion down the street, she now has a 20/40 prescription and can see again. But the same guy that helped up when picking up the glasses and we expressed that Spangler didn't even try...made a comment that they did not try to get us to the other doctor, Gordon? If you know you have a bad doctor to begin with, why are you letting people be seen by this guy? read more

While I was waiting on my husband to complete his eye exam, I heard the young woman at the customer service desk use the "f" word. She was talking to another employee, but she said it loud enough that I could hear her. She was incredibly unpleasant when we were checking in and then I heard her Huff at an elderly couple who came in asking about an appointment. I bought my glasses at this office. No issues at all. Lake helped me with my purchase. I bought two pairs. After some thought, I changed my mind about one of them. Been coming to this location for years to get my glasses and eye exam, it has always been good but this year 2022 I can honestly say it was Great! The location was much more organized and ready for the customer. Doctor Gordon did an excellent job with the exam and explained everything in the photos of my eyes. The optometrist told me I had a cataract and needed to go see an ophthalmologist. But they didn't give me my records to take with me. Fair enough. I'll call and have them send the records over. EXCEPT THEY DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE. You get ported over to Visionworks "Customer Care Center" which is an offshore call center and you can't understand the person on the phone. The stars are for the front staff who are pleasant and efficient. And since they have "simplified" the eyeglass process, their selection of frames has become all skewed to plastic frames. I prefer frames with adjustable nose pads. Make a better balance and add a little color in the women's frames. read more

This place is terrible. They are slow and the Dr here isn't personable. You better have time to spare because it's not as efficient as they say. I had a few questions and the doctor barely had time. I have used this place many times and been relatively satisfied but the past few experiences have not been up to par. Initially my appointment was scheduled for 930, I showed up a little early with paperwork complete hoping to get in a little early. So, full disclosure I was in a hurry. We had the initial test complete and then was told to wait due to other appointments ahead of us even though there was only one other lady checking on insurance at the front desk. It was like we were put at the back of the line. I waited for another 45 minutes before even seeing the doctor. The staff is good but seems the management and efficiency is lacking. They didn't realize my appointment was for 930 and thought it was for 945. I eventually left and made an appointment at another doctor. I will not go back to this establishment. read more

My husband and I have used this eye facility once before when it was called Value Vision. We had a decent visit there, with all their tests-good eye exam. Visionworks steps in and poof...BAD BAD exam. Dr. Made us feel STUPID, barely performed an eye exam, no test for pressure, scanning, no eye dialation to check back of eye, just tested for eye glasses. We both felt like we were just being rushed through and tossed out. Condescending attitude from eye doctor as well!!!! When we went to get glasses made and marked for readers, same weird attitude from clerk. Glasses come and surprise- my husbands are TERRIBLE!!! Cannot read w readers. Went in twice more....they adjusted everything about the frames, when it was obvious that the tech did not mark to lenses correctly. Finally, he just gave up...not worth the hassle and unprofessional people or Dr they have here. Find yourself an independent optometrist/ophthalmologist in this area and forget this ridiculous place. I've been here two now for vision care and I find the staff to be quick, efficient, and courteous. The price are reasonable too.

My first encounter with Visionworks on 11/21/2021 wasn't that great at all. During the eye exam testing by a young lady, she had to go and get another lady to help her with the equipment she was using upon me. Then after all of that, i did get to see the eye doctor himself after he was given the information from the girl doing the eye exam. The doctor was fast in doing his exam and was somewhat rude in being in a hurry to get this exam done. To make a long story short, i received my new glasses on 11/19/2021 and i tried them on. Something was wrong right away - but i took them with me anyway and went home. Tried to wear these glasses - but the way they were set up, caused me headaches, blurred vision, my computer screen at the top looked like a capital Y for some unknown reason. So, the were REFUSED by me. I took them back and got to speak to the store Manager TONY and he did issue a credit upon them. He himself gave me my eye exam the second time around and noticed some slight errors from the first testing. Then i got to see the eye doctor again who this time was a little bit nicer. On 12/03/2021 i picked up my replacement glasses and they are ok when i tried them on. BUT- They are NOT perfect in any way as the vision is still somewhat distorted in the strength or power in these lens. Not happy about this at all and unknown as to what to do now about this issue as they too can't be worn without an issue. I question the Management and staff of this place if they are properly trained to do the work necessary upon a customer for an eye exam. One sees no certificates stating so. My advice to all who read this posting, check out other places first before thinking of going to any Visionworks. A very costly mistake on my part. read more

Horrible and unprofessional!!! Dr. Archer was not professional enough or did not have the finesse required to even introduce himself. He just breezed right in and began admonishing me for having not had my eyes examined sooner. Then the contact lens fiasco began, where the contact lens lady gave me the wrong prescription sample. She and Dr. Archer kept insisting that it would just "take some time" to get used to the contacts. When I told him I wanted plain ole contacts - not bifocal, not multifocal, not monovision, only then did he realize that the Rx was wrong. He admonished the contact lens lady in front of his customer and just seemed like I was inconveniencing him with my request. I believe that I still came out of there with the wrong prescription, since everything is blurry through my left eye. I got the impression that Dr. Archer felt he was too important and superior to really listen to me and what I wanted, instead of working with me on the best thing. I was treated with disdain and irritability and felt like my input on my vision health was unimportant. DO NOT go to this practice, as the standard of care is sub-par and the security and trust you expect from a health care professional is completely missing. read more

I went for an eye exam with Dr. Spangler. He was very careless and told me I needed to wear glasses all the time and gave me a high prescription. The last time I had an eye exam, I had 20/20 vision with slight astigmatism so I wore glasses as needed. As he is a licensed optometrist, I trusted his opinion and spent $230 to get the glasses I was told I needed. After months of headaches and having to rely heavily on those glasses, I went for a second opinion at another eye doctor who took the time to explain everything to me and administered many tests. My new prescription, given 2 months later, was vastly different from Dr. Spangler's prescription and most similar to my prescription prior. I had spoken on the phone with a manager at Visionworks who told me if I brought in all my paperwork, he would refund the cost of the lenses Dr. Spangler told me to buy and the cost of the exam. I went by today and the manager on duty was very unhelpful, very rude and told me I was in the wrong. I am out an extra $230 because Dr. Spangler was careless in his practice and I had to get new glasses yet again to correct his mistake. read more

The service here is the absolute worse I have ever had! Not only are the employees rude but I had an appointment at 1 pm and didn't even get waited on till 2:15 pm, just as I was about to walk out the door! Then I was there till 4 because I was waiting while other people that came in after me was getting helped. I spent a little over 3 hours there and probably 2 and half of that was sitting and waiting. And at this time I already had glasses picked out! And so the next day I called to check and see if they were ready and the guy who answered was mad that I made him check on them. He was very rude. Then he tells me no and so I called around 4 and he (same guy) said 30 min. I showed up 40 min later and nothing! I ended up waiting another 25-30 min, and when I walked in everyone was rude especially when I was asking why I was told they would be ready and wasn't! And then my glasses wasn't even cleaned when I left! This is the worse place I've ever been! I will never give this place my service again! Total waste of time and money! read more
