Stopped by with some friends recently and Vista Del Mar did not disappoint. This locals hangout is kind of at the end of the path, so unless you know its there, most pass it by. If you're local though you know this is a great place for fresh seafood, burgers, sandwiches and more. The building is unassuming with an open interior, a decent sized bar with several tables with chairs inside, along with additional seating out back. We were greeted by the bartender walking in, she told us to grab a table anywhere, so we did. The place was busy the late afternoon of our visit. She was also our server, and despite being busy she managed the entire bar area and tables. A professional for sure and it was obvious that she knew how to handle the room. We started with the Calamari a large order thats enough to share and as an appetizer a good choice. Fresh crunchy, lightly fried and very tasty. I went for the Fish and tots (fries are standard) upgrade. The Cod filets, four pieces, fried golden brown and tender fresh cod, the tots were golden brown and fluffy spud inside. The Food is outstanding they know how to titittlate your taste buds which is an art of taste. My appetizer came at the same time as my main course. The bartender completely ignored me so that I couldn't get salt, pepper or ketchup or anything else. They got zero tip. and 3/4 my food did not even get eaten. I took it home to my dog, but after second thoughts, I just threw it away. Why should I make him suffer? We love coming here for lunch! The food and drinks are always on point. The last couple times, we have had a different bartender that doesn't really seem to like her job, but it doesn't deter us only because the food is so good. The bus boy was nice and friendly, as soon as we sat down he greeted us and gave us menus. It's got the classic sports bar feel, definitely gets loud, there's games in the back room. After spending the day at Redwood National Park, my bf and I headed to Eureka for dinner here. The place is pretty hidden at the end of a row of what looked like abandoned buildings, but there was still a good amount of people there for a late Sunday afternoon. We ordered fish and chips, two firecracker tacos, and clam chowder. For the fish and chips, the cod had a nice crisp and was moist on the inside. The fries were average but it was nice to eat with the horseradish sauce. The firecracker tacos were heckin' chonkers; I got full off of one taco. The shrimp was crispy and the sweet chili sauce went well with it. The clam chowder was also good. I liked that it wasn't too dense as it had more celery to give it a more refreshing break from the heaviness. Overall, the food was good and decent, but nothing really stood out to me or made me go "wow!". I'd give it a 3 personally since this type of food isn't my typical preference asides from the yearly seaside visits. I can still appreciate the execution of the food though and can tell that this would be some good bar food for those who are a fan. read more

Looking for dinner late upon arrival in Eureka, CA. Great reviews here so gave it a try as no other restaurant was open at 9pm. It didn't disappoint! Delicious! Came here after a long day out in the Redwoods National Park. Service was great here. I thought the staff was very friendly. The noise level was a bit loud for me, but maybe it was because we were seated in the corner by the speakers. As you can tell from the picture we ordered a feast for two people. Everything we ordered was really tasty. I definitely recommend getting the firecracker shrimp. It was perfectly seasoned and crispy. The salad with side dressing made me feel a little bit healthier. The tacos were great as well. They had an amazing selection of both local and craft beers. That meant leaving the fish and chips sit while eating the clam chowder and salad. Just don't even do it girl. Went here and the food was horrible! Garlic fries just had a clump of garlic thrown on top of the fries. It was comical. The burger meat made me actually gag. I had the cubano.. the roast beef was grey. I still tried to eat it. I told the bartender I didn't like it. She still made me pay for it because I had "eaten half of it". Girl, I tried the best I could to get it down. She was rude and unpleasant and frankly just cheap. No customer service. The food was trash.... Do better. read more

The wife and I were hungry for some nachos with bacon and found this place by the Eureka waterfront and Old Town Eureka. it was homemade chips with shredded cheese, pico de gallo, jalapeños and sour cream which was delicious and scarfed it down. The place had a Halloween theme and pacific ocean clean atmosphere for the local hangout. The staff of maybe 3 people did an excellent job providing quick service, great food and nice choices of flowing beer taps. We would come back again next time we are back up to Nor Cal! read more

We were staying in downtown Eureka and wanted seafood so decided to try Vista Del Mar for dinner. It's in a more industrial section so walking there could take you thru some seedier sections. Walking in you see the bar and lots of tables. You can sit wherever you want. It was clean and gave off more of a bar than a restaurant vibe. The bartender was our waitress. She gave us menus, brought us drinks, brought us our food after we went up to order. She was friendly and checked in on us, and I would rate the service for what it was as being very good. The calamari appetizer was really tasty. Lots of tentacles and rings. Light crispy coating. Came with a lemon garlic aioli for dipping. We liked that a lot. I ordered the fried oyster basket which came with fries. They oysters seemed huge to me. Many were filled with a greenish ooze that I googled and apparently, it's the unprocessed foodstuff the oyster eats and is both really good for you and adds to their value. That being said, I was not a huge fan. I usually enjoy raw oysters, and I enjoy smoked oysters from the can, but I was put off by the texture and flavor of these. I also found the fries pretty bland. I suspect if I lived here, I would go back and just try other dishes since the calamari was excellent, but I'd have to pass on the oysters. read more

My husband found a (non-yelp) review for this place that said they had the best fish and chips. It's located by the water but kinda away from everything else in an industrial part of town. We stopped by one afternoon to get food to-go. We had our dog with us but they don't have any outdoor seating. I didn't go in but my husband described it as a typical bar. Not as hot as the freshly fried fish so maybe they sat out a bit. The fish was great - flakey and it has like an almost cornmeal crust. Bot beer battered like most other places. I liked it, as it gave it a bit of texture. But the crust was still a bit too thick for my liking. My hubby got the shrimp po boy with fries. The shrimps were huge and these seemed to be beer battered. It came with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and a relish mayo type sauce. He finished it quickly and seemed to really enjoy it. Not only is this some of the best food I've ever had, it was also some of the best service. It seems like more and more places have rude staff, this place gives me hope. There was 1 bartender who was also the entire waitstaff minus 1 gentleman who efficiently and quietly cleared plates when needed. Two huge shrimp breaded in panko, almonds and coconut. Fruity pico de gallo had apples and grapes in it along with red bell peppers and some jalapeños.
