What an Amazing Office ! From the first moment you enter this office you are greeted with a smile…read more by the young lady at the front desk. I was given the paperwork to complete, which was the typical, when having any type of dental or medical care, ie allergies, reactions to anesthesia things like that. I had made my appointment to see this physician, due to a fall I had almost 2 months ago. I was concerned since my injury is still extremely sensitive and I have a dimpling scar on my cheek. I wanted to make sure that if I did have a fracture it had healed and had not caused a problem with the 'Infraorbital Foramen Vascular and Nerve Bundle'. After having multiple panoramic X-rays done with extra care, I met Dr Hunsaker. He was extremely caring, informative and through with his exam and explanation of my injury. I am More Than Greatful that I went to this outstanding office and met so many caring and professional people from beginning to end ! You will be glad you scheduled an appointment with this physician and his office staff, since I know you will be well taken care of.

An Oral Surgeon You'd Want to Go Back to, Even For Orthopedics !…read more When I was 15 my left femur was broken from a hit-and-run bicycle accident. The orthopedist had to put a screw through my lower leg, just above my ankle, while I was in traction. Then there was surgery to put a thick rod inside the fractured femur, now that it had aligned. The attending doctor worked super efficiently and unintrusively, and 2 years later I was good as new and look back at this healing as a pleasant experience. I wouldn't mind if I had to go through it again (yes, I did use crutches a lot during that time, but I became effectively a "downhill skier" with them). My experience with Dr. Hunsaker for having an implant installed to hold an artificial tooth after an extraction was exactly the same, only shorter. My general dentist had planned to do the installation, but x-rays revealed I'd probably need a sinus lift. Thus, the outsourcing. Upon being examined by Dr. Hunsaker, he immediately spotted that I actually had enough jaw width in the implant area to allow a shorter implant to be effective (sit firmly). So, we skipped the sinus lift, and did the very same work as my general dentist would have done. Yes, a sinus lift could have been used and wouldn't have hurt me, but it would cost more. By foregoing it I saved about $600. Upon return 3 months later for the "torque test", we discovered the implant had embedded nicely. Dr. Hunsaker isn't huge on drugs for this kind of surgery, but he is firm about using antibiotics for a week to prevent infection. And about gargling with a stronger, prescription disinfectant mouthwash. Look at the photos section for Dr. Hunsaker here to see the finished product.

Let me start off by saying that Dr. Hunsaker at the Lakeway location was fantastic. He did my…read moreoldest child's wisdom teeth extraction, and everything was great and went smoothly. So when it came time for my second child to get their wisdom teeth removed, we were happy to use him again. We scheduled the initial assessment appointment, which included panoramic x-rays, etc. and was very thorough. However, it wasn't until AFTER the appointment was completed, and we were going over billing for the extraction that we discovered that they do not take our insurance for that procedure. The initial appointment was covered, but the surgery wasn't, and we basically would have had to pay out of pocket (thousands of dollars). When I asked why we weren't told this BEFORE the appointment, they said they didn't know until just then. But the paperwork saying that was dated before the date of the appointment and was literally in her hands, so they knew in plenty of time. They never mentioned it when the appointment was scheduled or when I spoke to them the day before the appointment to confirm, even though by then, they knew they didn't accept our insurance for the surgery. So now we are forced to go elsewhere for the extraction. The worst part is that the insurance company will only cover one of those initial exams a year. So, we now need to wait an entire year before doing this again, or pay the approximately $700 out of pocket and take more time off of work, to do the same, exact appointment over again. BTW - the person in billing told us that, so was aware. Basically, they knew they didn't take our insurance for the surgery, but went ahead with the initial exam anyway, so they could bill and get paid for that appointment while not caring at all that we would have to either delay care for a year or pay for a second appointment out of pocket somewhere else.

She also doesn't push unnecessary treatments which I appreciate as someone who is both budget conscious and takes very good care of my teeth. It even seems like prior issues with finding consistent hygienists have been remedied. Unfortunately they still have a lot of issues finding reliable and knowledgeable front desk personnel, and as a result I have had a TON of billing issues, which ultimately resulted in my and my family leaving the practice. Although these issues have persisted the entire 4 years I have been a patient, most recently I was not told my and my child's visit was out of network until I received the bill. Apparently the practice has not updated their information with insurance providers and the old doctor is still listed as in network even though the practice changed hands nearly a year ago. Although I don't believe it was done on purpose, it certainly affected my family in a financially negative way and it is reflective of the overall poor communication and billing practices.

My initial consultation with Dr. Bob was informative and didn't feel at all like the usual dentist sales pitch. I could tell that Dr. Bob genuinely cared, even though he just met me. I went back a few months after my initial consultation to have the work done (once my new insurance kicked in) and couldn't have been happier with my visit. The work took a few hours, but flew by mainly because of how nice he and his staff are. My dental assistant was Sara and she was friendly and talkative, even asking me several times if I was comfortable and wanted any water. Throughout the process, Dr. Bob explained exactly what he was doing every step of the way. It might sound silly, but I felt like I was being educated, rather than just sitting there bored. I would highly recommend Dr. Bob as he is by far the best dentist I have had in my 30+ years of dental work.

I now have a gap between my teeth, a chipped tooth to one side (see photo) and they charged me almost 3k not including what they took from my insurance. They told me w/out the gum surgery 5k (most Americans don't have 1k extra just laying around in this economy let alone 5k!) then I would need to do a deep clean and since it was not enough time since my last one it would be only another almost 1k out of pocket! Ended up going from oh you need a crown! To oh you need a root canal...instead of waiting to see if I would continue to get the crown they sent it out w/out my consent so they could sneakily charge me and justify there actions I decided against the root canal due to the extremely expensive price...they ended up saying "well well you kinda got a service and then found out the greedy money hungry owner ended up deciding to not refund me anything saying "well you had a service you can come in and I will be gracious enough to see you" when I had already said I had decided to go to Mexico where it's safe and way less than what they are charging here. In short don't give them your money they will make your teeth worse and then if you don't have the money they will say welp that sucks to be you! Avoid at all costs and if you are autistic know they will take advantage of you.

After reading other reviews, unfortunately post visit, my experience was almost identical. Having returned to Austin after a 16-year absence, I was looking for a new dentist. Both of my previous dentists had retired. Trails Dental was convenient, and since I only needed preventive maintenance and cleaning, I thought why not. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE. I had given my insurance # to them in advance of the appointment and again at checkin. They had ample time to confirm coverage. ALSO, a sign at the entrance to the office promoted a $79 x-rays and cleaning offer. Wonder how many people have been scammed by that false advertising. After having a panoramic x-ray, followed by bitewings, then the hygienist (I presume, as 4 different women floated in and out during my time in the chair) proceeded to perform a 2D photographic image by placing a small hand-held wand like instrument in my mouth. Next came torture. A second person entered and began to aggressively poke my gums with a sharp instrument until I could taste nothing but blood. Rarely do my gums bleed. Not only was I gagging from the metallic taste, but no one ever offered water for me to wash out the blood. Then entered the dentist, Dr. Jessica Cicone, to explain everything. Not only did she tell me that I needed 3 crowns but that I also needed a deep cleaning. Keeping in mind that when I left my wonderful dentist in New Orleans, my teeth and gums were fine with her only keeping a watch on an old filling in one tooth, which ironically wasn't among the teeth that Trails wanted to crown. Cicone departed and in walked the 4th different person, this one to explain the costs. According to her, after insurance, my portion of the bill would be about $3,600. AGAIN, all I came in for was preventive maintenance and cleaning....covered 100% by my insurance. Declining to have the deep cleaning that day as I did not have a credit card with me, I asked for a routine cleaning. They REFUSED. That's like taking your car in for an oil change and the repairman finds a dozen other things. Even if you decline extra repairs, they still change the oil!! Insult on top of injury, the billing person detailed my portion of the crowns after insurance. Another big red flag, as I knew my policy didn't cover crowns. In the end, I left and immediately called my dental insurance company to confirm that they did not cover crowns. Nor does my policy cover deep cleaning or the 2D imaging--for which I've now received a bill for $408. At this point, my teeth still need cleaning, yet I have to either wait another 6-months to be covered by my insurance or pay out of pocket to see another dentist for x-rays and maintenance.
