And while we didn't find the particular albums that we were looking for, we were blown away by the sheer ambiance and amount of product they do possess. Being a child of the 70's and '80s, we could have looked through their collection for four or five hours easy since I think those were the greatest decades of music with artist who not only achieved legendary status, but even one hit wonders that what have you going back into time. In fact, we were joking with the staff that we easily could have opened and closed the place down by doing an entire day shift right alongside them! The place really blows you away from a 5 senses standpoint as well. The sights, sounds, and smells all hit you at once-and in here and on this occasion, that was a great thing. If you follow a little hallway it leads you into a completely different section into what seems like a another small universe or at least galaxy. Once on the other side of this hallway which leads you to another portion of the building entirely, your met with even more records and additional musical and odd treasures. To top it off, a bar with alcohol awaits you! Lol You can't make this place up! Bottom line here folks is this is a really cool, cool place-especially for those who love classic music, a good beer, and the idea of hunting for what you want. I'd highly recommend this place....just be prepared to put in some serious time for research and for your senses to be able to take it all in.

Their videos are organized by how a cinema fan's mind works. By category, by country, by director. John Woo movies in the Hong Kong director's section. Hou Hsiao-Hsien in Taiwan. There's classic porn from the 70s, 80s and 90s. There are Criterion discs. There are John Huston movies, Godard movies, Wim Wenders and David Lynch. Dario Argento horror movies. Sci-fi. Pre Sci-fi. Post Sci-fi. Brazilian. African. Silent films... I could go on and on. If you are looking for an obscure out of print classic film that's not on streaming, there's an 80% chance that you can find it here to rent. There is street parking nearby. The problem? I live in OC and this place is in Mount Washington/Montecito Heights. So if I move down there, I'll be renting some unheard of movies, that's for sure!

I walked away with a hoodie, shorts, and a few collectible gifts for other people, which made the trip even more fun. If you love horror, movies, and supporting small businesses, definitely put this place on your list. The owner and vendors I met at the event are clearly passionate about what they do, and the shop has a great energy. It's also located in a really cool part of Los Angeles that's surrounded by other small businesses and creative artists, so it's easy to make a day out of your visit. Looking forward to coming back.

If you are a haunter, or just a fan of horror movies Slasher is it. They also sell memorabilia, and collectibles. They are located right on Melrose so dinner and a show and a little shopping are a great way to spend a Saturday night in LA. Highly recommend.

You have to walk up a flight of stairs but this is cali, so I know you're all in great shape ja! Once I wlaked up there I met the owner I think, Stephan who was this cool cat and fun to talk too. They dont get much foot traffic since its on the other side of spring street, however its worth seeking out. I I love the LA art scene and more importantly the LA art walk. One gets it all from a variety of artisans from weekend warriors to life long professionals displaying and selling their work. From prints, paintings, sketches, stickers, necklaces, shirts, hats, and etc to just name a few.. Having this diverse amount of artist is cool because theres somthing fof everyone to enjoy, buy, and explore. Now im an adventurer so I love going on a hunt for hidden galleries. Theres a map one can acquire that shows a lot of the galleries within walking distance. You can get one at the hive gallery on spring street.

I had a ton of questions since his gallery looked over Indian Alley. He also gave me some insight on Crewest (one of my favorite galleries before it closed down). It was nice to connect with a gallery owner, most if not all I visit don't provide that experience. There are two rooms accessed by two flights of stairs. One being the gallery that showcases the current installation and then the bookstore that also sells a variety of merchandise. I purchased a fig leaf candle and I can't wait to light it up. It smells lovely. Both rooms are well lit and inviting. I was the only visitor so I had the entire space to myself. The current exhibition is "Afraid of Modern Living" by World Imitation & Monitor. There's a map that shows where to begin. I didn't know until I saw everything and did it backwards, but that's the beauty of art, there are plenty of tries. I will definitely have to make a visit at a opening night. I can imagine how this place fills up. This spot used to have another name (I think it was Video Hut), and we found out it was closing at the end of 2018, so we were sad. It's so nice to have a video store withing walking distance. We were happy to know that the new owner of the storefront was not some gentrified expensive business or coffee house, but rather another person that wanted to continue the video store, so we scored. I remember the video store experience from when I was a kid. It's always nice to be able to peruse the movies by hand, and find something that maybe you weren't expecting to be good or interesting. The store is neat, and they offer a selection of not only brand new movies (they get them pretty quickly, and the discs are always kept in perfect condition by the store, so no worries about getting scratched discs like often happens with RedBox or Netflix). They also often have multiple copies, so you can probably get a new release without worrying that everyone rented them out. Alex Video offers both DVD and Blu-Ray movies (sometimes the same movie in both formats). They have a good section of movies for kids, as well as older movies, not just new releases. They also offer movies for sale sometimes. They also have a small selection of games for rent, as well as popcorn and snacks for movie night! Shopping in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California…read more.. Somehow, I found free street parking on Hollywood Boulevard, almost right in front of Amoeba Music... It's an iconic place. I thought that I should look around inside... Wow... It has everything... jazz, top 40, soul, hip hop, ethnic music, CDs, vinyl, movies, used, new, merchandise, and more! I was truthfully overwhelmed. I will be back when I'm more focused and have more time! Note: Amoeba Music is also in San Francisco and Berkeley.
