I had to see Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" at this theater in Los Feliz. You could pay at the box office or order your tickets on the website. I bought my ticket online and just had my QR code scanned at the theater entrance by an employee with an iPad. Walked into the lobby and joined the line for the concessions stand. There is popcorn, candy, soft drinks and also adult beverages: beer and wine. After getting my popcorn I walked into the huge theater and it was amazing. Egyptian style architecture, a huge closed red curtain that hides the screen and the seats a comfortable with ample leg room. The same employee that scanned my online ticket came to the front of the movie screen and greeted us with a warm hello, introduced the film, told us proper movie etiquette (no filming or taking pictures of the movie and to please take your trash out with you when you leave the theater) and let us know there was 15 minutes of previews including a Bugs Bunny cartoon. So cool! Will definitely come back to watch more movies here!

The restrooms are clean and modernized. The lighting could be a bit brighter. Inside of the theaters is a fun experience. It's as if we're transported back in time with it's art deco style on the walls, plush and roommy seats that start with many seats in the back then goes to two seater aisles the closer one gets to the screen. The screen it self is hidden behind a plush or velvet curtain until it's time to watch the other movie previews, watch a cartoon about going to the concession booth or the hilarious "Turn Off Your Cellular Phones" Victorian opera style. I caught a matinee which was a great price and the other attendees enjoyed the movie! I love this theater!

The seats were way too close together, and the person next to us had belongings spread into the shared space, making it very difficult to get in and out of our seats comfortably. Because of how uncomfortable the situation was, we decided to leave during the previews before the movie even started. We politely explained the issue to the manager and asked if we could either move to different seats -- even less expensive ones -- or receive some type of accommodation such as passes for another movie. Unfortunately, the manager refused to help in any way and would not issue a refund, exchange, or even offer courtesy tickets. For a theater that markets itself as a luxury experience and charges premium prices, I expected much better customer service. Other theaters like AMC are usually much more understanding and willing to work with customers when issues arise. Instead, we left feeling frustrated after paying for a movie we never got to watch. Sadly, this experience completely turned us off from coming back.

But this review is not about the latest Spider Man flick, it is about Alamo Drafhouse Cinema. And I firmly believe that one of the reasons why I loved Brand New Day so much is because I saw it in Alamo Drafthouse. The movie going experienced was enhanced, dare I say even honored, by this place. And, I might be wrong, but saying that a place made a movie better, is the loudest clap a moviegoer can give to a place that plays movies for goers. I am not sure how I first heard of Alamo Drafthouse, but I selected it as the venue that will host my movie going experience because I fe;t Spider Man deserved the stage. When I got there I was surprised by one sheer fact: I have walked by this place many a time, and I never knew that it was there. Which made me realize in a much broader way that what they say about LA is true--- one will never be bored here because there is always something new to do, and if you cannot find something new, than you might not be looking hard enough. The entrance to the place that holds Alamo also had a reminder that we might all need to hear: "say whatever it is, before it is too late." I entered and the place gave me Bing Bang Theory basement vibes if Howard or Sheldon had the funds to create a luxury movie theathre in their basements. The place was replete with a lot of different posters, and toys, and other memorabilia. If one is a flick nerd, then this place will be their slice of heaven with reclining sheets. I clipped just a few pictures of the different do-thats that this place. For instance, they had a wall full of Spider Man posters. As I walked past them and into my designated theatre I felt more excited to see the motion. Also, they had this area with tables and beers on tap with the Spider Man from the 90's playing. Which makes me believe that Spider Man 97 is coming along the pike cause this cartoon is not quitting. But I thought it was such a great touch to play this cartoon because it is responsible for having so many people fall in love with the wall crawler. It was appropriate nostalgia that frame the movie. So if I have not made it clear, being in this place is a small museum that reminds us why we love movies, beyond them offering escapism when times get tough. The movie rooms were small, quaint, and comfortable. I think most people would agree that a recliner while watching a movie may not be needed, but just like fudge on ice cream, it makes the treat better in a rich kind of way. Additionally, this place offers food delivered to your chair by a server. The besides me had a whole happy hour situation going on. He ordered three margaritas, a hamburger, fries and enjoyed his time. It was all about being good and happy at the movies. This place facilitated that. I was not hungry. But I was inspired by my neighbor to order a treat---- sea salt and vinegar popcorn laced with gold fish, and it was a nice little treat. First, I never had that combination before. It was great! The goldfish cheese taste was deepened. Not in every bite but the ones that were in the bottom of the sea(bowl). The second thing that they did, that another Yelper. comment on was, they "have a no-phone policy." Meaning that when the movie started to play they encouraged us not to use our phone or we might be asked to leave. We were told we can report people on our phone using their phone. And they addressed the irony of it--- and resolved it by saying just don't be a jerk. It as like putting a pretty ribbon bow in a package that was once difficult to wrap. The movie had previews but before that they had a comedian re-cap the journey to this movie and it was funny. The comedian wondered if DR. Strange was also the type of guy that buys liquor for a minor since he did a universe altering spell for one. Then before the movie they showed a video with Holland stating that this Spider Man Movie was created for "you." And to a much lower degree, for sure, this Yelp was written for you too.

The event organizers did a FANTASTIC job, as guests were all commenting on how much fun they had all night long. Parking is available across the street in a private, fenced but unsupervised parking lot. Lighting is great, and there are numerous very bright lights throughout the lot. The venue where the movie was shown is on the fourth floor of the Level Hotel located on 9th Street and Olive Street in downtown Los Angeles. Guests are not allowed in the outdoor seating area until sixty minutes before showtime. Once upstairs, you are free to sit anywhere, as seating is first come, first served. Guests sit on very comfortable, padded Adirondack chairs that event organizers provide. The view of the screen, the sound, and the overall atmosphere are fun, relaxed, and positive. Guests are handed a headset to listen to the movie, and/or the surround sound speakers are on for those choosing not to use the headset. There is a snack bar offering hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, popcorn, ice cream, and several other snacks on one side and alcoholic beverages on the opposite side. Clean and convenient restrooms are within walking distance from the outdoor seating area. Guests as young as 16 are allowed in, and 21 and over if you plan to have an alcoholic beverage (or two). Different movies, both current and older, are shown nightly. Check their website for the exact movies shown on any given night. Several nights per week, two buffet movies are shown back-to-back. Getting to the theater can be a little confusing, but they do send you instructions before your visit. BE AWARE their email says parking is right across the valet for about $10-$12. Since it was dark, I mistakenly parked at the lot next to the $10 one, and that one was $20 (ouch). Don't make that mistake. When you walk through the valet, there is someone there to tell you where to wait. The doors open about a half hour before your showing. We were a little confused because we weren't sure if someone was going to come down and get us. There was a resident that scanned us up the elevator, and there were plenty of spots to lounge outside of the cinema area. We sat in front of the concession stands, and the valet from downstairs had come up and ask us and the other two couples waiting to move to the seating area closest to the elevators. It wasn't a big deal but I thought it was weird that we had to do that. Our tickets were for the loveseat, which comes with one popcorn per person. We watched LaLa Land (in LaLa Land), which was nice because there's also a view of the buildings in downtown. Seat was comfy, but I wish there were either cup holders on the chairs or perhaps a small table in between seats for your food & drinks. I HIGHLY recommend bringing a blanket. There are other reviews that mention they have heaters, however, this was not the case during our visit. I'm thinking they probably have them for the winter, but there were no heaters present during our visit. It gets rather cold, but it feels okay if you bring a sweater and a small blanket. I loved the concept of the headphones for the movie. They were excellent quality and had great sound. You can adjust it based on your liking. Also, all the seats have a great view of the screen. It's a pricey date, but it's worth it if you're looking for something different.

The TCL Chinese Theatre itself is a historical theater, which can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. The inside is super interesting - very "old school" Hollywood. The adjacent mall provides validated parking for $3 and is also fun to explore. The downside is that it's an old movie theater, so sound quality isn't the best. I also had to crawl over multiple people to get to my seat on the far right side, because there were no stairs on the right. I don't know if this would be my go-to IMAX theater, but I think it's worth watching a movie here at least once.

The seats are uncomfortable, too much flex. The screen itself is good quality, but halfway through our showing the screening glitched and they had to stop and restart for 5 minutes. Never had that happen. Concessions are just average and bathrooms were okay but weirdly placed. Overall the picture and sound were good but didn't blow me away. Of course, the history of it all is interesting, but can't really escape from the skivviness of Hollywood Blvd right in front. I wouldn't go back to this theater.

Our third Laemmle theater chain visit and the first impression, was compared to the previous two; small, crowded and cramped lobby space. Laemmle groups everything together; ticket purchases and concessions into one single space. And very noticeably so tightly together here in Glendale.
