My first blood donation in decades so I was an unsure of what to expect and was relieved by how easy they make the whole process. Prior to arriving, they provide lots of info online about what to expect and also I was able to fill out a form ahead of time to save time at the appointment. . They share a large parking lot with Panera and the sign is well marked and correct in Google Maps. I parked within feet of the door. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and taken into a a cubicle to get my info and vitals even though I was over ten mins early. I was offered a snack before the blood draw. My veins are small so it took 8 mins for the full blood draw although others can be done in 5 minutes. I was again offered a snack and sat resting for five minutes. The place itself was open, clean, and well designed. The employees were lovely and knowledgeable. My veins are hard to see which makes it tricky for them, but she managed with barely any pain, just a quick prick and then I felt fine. Highly recommend! read more

I've been coming here for years - this was my 85th visit, so not a new donor. They apparently ran out of the small round sticks (like lollipop sticks) to mark the spot. So, they instead used a small straw that was so thin it dug into my skin - and she used it 3x - the 3rd time was too much and I complained and she had the nerve to imply I had a low pain tolerance - how about using the proper supplies! I donated blood here once in 2018. They have been spam calling me ever since. I get a call every 10 days or less. I have answered and asked to be taken off their list and they still call. I blocked their number, but they are still somehow able to leave voicemails in a blocked box that fills up my voicemail box anyway and keep my clients from being able to leave me messages. read more

LifeSource is sweetening the pot, as it were, trying to attract more blood donations. They've instituted a Brighten Life program (www.brightenlife.org) whereby people get benefits based on amount of donations. Like free cholesterol checks and points redeemable at their online store. Members are encouraged to donate every quarter, but aren't obligated to do so. Also, LifeSource has been running consistent promotions for donors. I just went this weekend, and was entered into a drawing to win Blackhawks tickets - plus I got a 12% off discount coupon from Abt Electronics (which is across the street). This is above and beyond the standard reward, the "you're saving three lives with each donation" one. And still: plenty of free juice and snacks afterwards. Bonus: besides Oreos, they now also offer Matt's chocolate chunk cookies (much better than Oreos). read more

I've been a regular donor at this facility for 4 or 5 yrs...minimum of 4 to 5 times yearly I used to like to go...in especially liked Val (now retired) When my fiancé and I were there this past Thursday (Feb 18-21) we were greeted by Debbie...we waited awhile (we were fine with that)...then had to go thru a series of questions on the computer....not sure why we have these NEW approved donor cards (which were mailed to us)..they don't seem to do much After answering the questions and getting our mini check-up I inquired about a LIPID PANEL....there seemed to have been some discrepancies....how many times have I donated in the last year...when does that calendar year start...blah blah....I was given a number to call..it looks like her name is Araceli (847-260-2614)....called 3 times...voicemail each time...so far NOTHING I also wasn't happy with Anna (no name tag) who was condescending...not to mention how painful the needle felt going in (never really checking which arm had the better vein)...the bruising was so bad.I asked NOT to put a band aid on...instead she taped it with so much gauze and tape wrapped around me arm...I left with an ice pack...iced for 2 days after as well cause of bruising Also...I'm finding NO INCENTIVE to donate anymore...the cookies don't cut it for me So...I also emailed Vitalant to speak to someone...so far NOTHING!!!.. So between not being able to get a FREE LIPID PANEL and no other incentives....tell me what would drive me or anyone to donate?? I have been going to this facility (started when still on Milwaukee Ave) for many years now. The staff has always been caring and friendly. I am now experiencing a problem with their portal and no one seems interested in fixing the problem. Evidently their I.T. department is not as great as their blood donation staff. They act like it is my problem, not theirs. I have never had a problem before, but now keep getting a message that the URL is not available. Did they pay their licensing fee? read more

Was concerned about donating blood due to COVID-19 but so glad I visited the Glenview donor center. LifeSource is now called Vitalant but whatever its called, the people working there were extremely welcoming and seemed genuinely happy and appreciative to see me. They appeared to have taken all of the right COVID precautions and they place was very clean with plenty of hand sanitizer to go around. Pro Tip: Make an appointment and you'll breeze right through. They told me that with everything opening up again there's going to be a huge need for blood donations. read more

I'd say that this is the nicest LifeSource location that I've been to so far. The facility is big, clean and the snacks here are the best. When I went they had Matt's cookies. Mmmmm.... The blood donation process isn't the most fun thing to do, but it's really not all that bad. Plus, donating blood burns something like 650 calories (according to the Mayo Clinic), so you can do it just for that reason....well, at least you won't have to feel guilty about the juice and cookies. read more

One of the phlebotomist was very unprofessional and rude. While speaking with me she was very condescending. I have donated blood in the past and I am in the system. However they hassled because they couldn't find my name, while looking at my ID she expressively says "oh my goodness." The whole process took more than 10 minutes only for me to find out it's because they didn't put a space in my last name when I gave them my ID. Will not becoming to this location or any vitalant anymore because of this interaction. read more

This Lifesource branch is closest to my work, but I'm not sure if they're the ones who actually staff the blood drives in the building. Let's go with it, though. I try to donate every quarter, which is when they come to the office park. I admit to some failings, though; I just gave again last week after not having tried since March. My experience in March was disappointing. They stuck me several times in both arms, left a huge bruise on my left arm, and then told me I couldn't give. But it went better last week, although I have to put my foot down from here on out: my left arm never works out. I've yet to have a tech successfully draw from my left arm. But they did get my right arm smoothly and the first time, after consulting with a few people. Maybe I'm being a pain, but come on, I'm giving blood out of the goodness of my heart, can't you try to leave me mostly bruise-less? I've had some good interactions with staff and a few not-as-good. But the Brighten Life program is nice, and I know how important giving blood is, so I'll keep doing it as much as possible. read more

This place did not take adequate precautions against COVID-19. Note: it is now called Vitalant. I walked in for my appointment and was greeted by a staff member who seemed impatient and told me to take a seat. Another staff member took me into a consultation room and indicated I should sit down next to her desk. The chair was positioned two to three feet away from her, and I told her I'd prefer to stand as I wanted to keep six feet of distance due to COVID-19 recommendations. She looked at me like I was nuts. She had a mask on, but it was not an N95. She handed me a book of guidelines to read, and I stood to read it so I could keep five to six feet of distance from others. Another staff member told me to sit down, but I said "I'm more comfortable standing," and she looked at me as if I were being difficult. My interviewer asked me to sit at her chair and answer questions on her computer, which I did, but when I finished, she did not offer me a disinfectant wipe or hand sanitizer. I asked for hand sanitizer, but the label was hand-written, instead of a brand name. I thought perhaps it was homemade hand sanitizer, and I wondered if it was actually strong enough to do the job. The interviewer took my temperature with an under-the-tongue thermometer, and I asked, "is there a sheath on the thermometer?" She said she had just put a fresh one on, but I didn't see her do it. Why couldn't this place use a touch-free thermometer, as so many retail stores are doing now? The interviewer had her badge facing backward (unprofessional), so I didn't see her name. Finally, I looked over at a person who was having their blood drawn, and the staff member's face was no more than 12 inches from the person's face. Both had masks on, but masks are not perfect and do not block 100 percent of virus germs. I asked my interviewer if she would have to get that close to me and she said yes. At that point, I had gotten enough bad vibes that I told her I was not going to donate blood. I really was shocked at the fact that they, a place that draws blood and is part of the medical profession, seemed really lax about COVID-19 precautions and safety. I worked here as a teenager (back in the day) in the telemarketing department. My role was to ask people for their blood...yes I was a vampire!!! In all seriousness, this was a great summer job. They paid well (for that time), and the job itself was easy. With the job also came the pressure to donate blood myself. I tried one time...and ended up fainting in the hallway.
