Unfortunately, Viva Margarita has gone completely downhill. My friends and I ordered drinks that were genuinely undrinkable they tasted like motor oil. They were, without exaggeration, the worst drinks we've ever been served. We politely asked if they could be remade and explained how bad they tasted. The waiter told us they could make new drinks but would still charge us for both the disgusting drinks and the replacements. He said he'd speak to the bartender, then disappeared and only returned when our food arrived, clearly trying to avoid the issue. When I asked if he spoke to the bartender, he casually said, "That's how the drinks are made," and that nothing could be done. At that point, we accepted the overpriced drinks and didn't even drink them. It was Taco Tuesday, which somehow made things worse. The tacos didn't meet even Taco Bell standards. To make matters unacceptable, I bit into a taco and pulled out a hair from my mouth. Based on how dismissive the waiter had already been, I hesitated to say anything and unfortunately, my instinct was right. When my friends told him about the hair, he laughed and said it was my hair, then claimed the chef is bald so it must be mine. I'm not sure how my hair would end up inside a taco, but he outright accused us of planting it there. After that, we were ignored for the rest of the night. The restaurant was practically empty, yet the service was hostile, dismissive, and unprofessional. The atmosphere felt dead and uncomfortable. This used to be a nice place, but that experience is completely gone. Between the awful drinks, low-quality food, and shockingly rude service, this was an all-around terrible experience. This is not authentic Mexican food. Even the chips and salsa were not good. They were too thick and lacked crispiness. In an area that has so many great mom and pop Mexican restaurants this one strikes out. It may be good in a place like North Dakota but not in Hudson County New Jersey. read more

Wow! This place was a treat and I can't believe it doesn't have a higher star rating on Yelp. My husband and I were child free for lunch this past Friday so we wanted to go some place we haven't been in awhile so we chose Viva Margarita. We've done take out once from here during the Pandemic but never ate inside. When we arrived around noon there were a few people at the bar but we were the only ones in the restaurant. It has such a nice vibe, the decor is fun and the attention to detail in the theming is great! Our waiter was super nice and super attentive. He let us really take our time ordering and gave us a chance to enjoy each portion of our meal. I ordered one of their special margaritas. I believe it was called the Very Berry Margarita. It was huge and delicious! Our waiter brought out complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were super sturdy and super crunchy. The salsa was great as well. For our appetizer we ordered the Queso Fundido with chorizo. It came out BOILING! It was fantastic! The cheese was so good and the chorizo gave it a little spicy kick. Nothing too crazy, just right. For lunch, my husband and I each ordered a lunch special. He had the chicken enchiladas with verde sauce. I ordered the fajita quesadilla with ground beef. OMG to both of them. We both agreed that we liked the chicken enchilada better, but that doesn't mean the quesadilla was bad in any respect. The verde sauce was so good. My husband and I both commented that the meal seemed really light. Sometimes when we eat Mexican food we feel a bit stuffed, but everything was fresh, light, and delicious. Since we didn't feel stuffed, we had to order the coconut tres leches cake of course. It was very good as well. A little heavy on the raspberry sauce, but otherwise a perfect delight to end the meal. Ooof. Not a good time at Viva Margarita. Came here for happy hour and we were told there basically was none when the opposite is advertised all over their Instagram stories. Even so we got some appetizers and house margaritas. The margaritas were literally straight up mixers, they tasted sour and not in a good way. I definitely wouldn't recommend them. The flautas were sad little rolled up stale tortillas, the nachos has an odd veggie blend and just didn't taste good. None of the flavors worked well together. The fajita quesadilla was the only good thing and that's cause it was actually warm. Our server didn't speak English well so communicating was a little rough. We were so disappointed with our meals that we decided to say something about their advertised happy hour. It took them 30 minutes to change the bill. 30 minutes we just sat and waited. Viva margarita is a total vibe. From the moment I walked in there was Latin music playing, nice people greeting me, and a bowl of chips and salsa a couple seconds after I sat down. Ordered two plates of birria tacos and a margarita. They were great!! Good texture of tortilla, beef was well flavored, and the rice/beans completed the plate nicely. The consume was belly-warming and full of flavor. Drinks are large and hit nicely. Everyone seemed like they were having a great time. We arrived about 5pm and asked about happy hour prior to sitting. At this point we were told happy hour was held at the bar or dining room. We chose the dining room. As we sat and read the menu, the waitress forgot to mention, based on the menu, happy hour ends at the bar at 6 and dining room 7pm. Glad we sat! We ordered the happy hour flautas, regular priced shrimp tacos and guac with chips. The guac presentation was awesome!! Guac is made to your tasting. Yum! The take home bags were a cute costume presentation. I did notice many customers coming in for pick ups and their bags were extra nice! This place is a one of my favorite places to go to for Mexican. It has free Valet parking on weekends, which is always nice, and a DJ doing his thing. I mean, this place is a total vibe. I keep coming back to this place, and I can say, it's not because of the free valet. The food, it's something that I can crave for days at a time. I wish I could rate this place higher because the food was delicious, but the service was downright awful. We came in on a weeknight for dinner with our young son, and they were about half full. It took several minutes for someone to greet and seat us, and then several more minutes for someone to realize no one had come by to take our order. Seemed like no one knew what was going on. Took about 20 minutes to get our drinks from the bar, and almost 45 to get our food. It was clear that they had not yet started it either time that we asked about it. In the meantime, we had chips and salsa on the table and asked for a couple refills on the salsa while we waited, only to find out that they CHARGED us for them without mentioning it to us. Our waiter was young and brushed off our frustration, even asking "Is everything better now?" once we got our food. Went to this location as a last resort and that is what it should remain, a last resort. The original plans did not allow us to make reservations and the wait time was too long. This spot was close enough to go to as a last minute option. When me and my friends arrived we were not seated or even greeted. The hostess and who seemed like a manager were both on the phone right in front of us. Very rude. When we were finally seated we were not provided water which I found also weird. The waiter took a while for every single encounter she had to make with our table but she was helpful in recommending drinks. I got a mango mojito and my friends got the strawberry frozen margarita, viva colada (seasonal cocktail), and green monster (seasonal cocktail). I really enjoyed my mojito. I could have drank a lot more of those if I was able to. Perfect balance of fruitiness and alcohol. My friends liked their drinks a lot. The viva colada was probably the lowest rated out of all of them, though. Most of the table got the chicken nachos and we all enjoyed it but only mine was not served with guacamole...very weird. I asked for it and she came back with it quickly. Also all of ours had A LOT of lettuce...it seemed like a salad until you uncovered the rest of the ingredients. Overall it was flavorful and good. The atmosphere was okay. It was very casual. I often saw the hostess and who seemed like the manager sitting down and eating or on the phone...It was also very bright in there which we did not like. The ambiance would be pretty cool with the small seasonal lights they have if it wasn't as bright. The bar area looked pretty nice, too bad we could not sit there. My fiancé and I went here on our very first night after moving to the area, and we were so so pleasantly surprised! I got mole enchiladas, and my fiancé got queso fundido and a chimichanga. We also ordered (a few too many) drinks, and they were all fantastic. Their house made piña colada mix is delicious. The food is phenomenal - I usually don't like queso fundido, but it was great! The mole sauce is my favorite that I've ever tried - I'm always on the lookout for the best mole sauce, and this one took top spot. The service was also really great and our waiter was very kind and attentive. The location itself is clean, colorful, and vibrant! We'll return. The one thing I will say is that the place is expensive!!! But, everything was so good I can't in good conscience dock a star for that. read more

They still have the outdoor seating under the giant tent, wasn't a big fan of it. Next time, I will probably opt to sit inside if of course seating is available. Now the food on the other hand was good, but not great. Fish and shrimp tacos were definitely tasty but only received 2. Most places I go to give you 3, like Agave down the street.
