As a first-time customer I was hopeful. But, supply chain? Management? Staffing? Expertise? Take your pick and the world that was...well, it was. Vivian's seems to be struggling as the rest of the world with post-pandemic adjustments. Aside from the beauty of the Bristol Hotel, the restaurant has a charming ambience of its own. But a restaurant's kitchen is key to the experience. Vivian may have misplaced her key. Wait staff were few, but pleasant and capable  for Sunday brunch. It seemed like a fair crowd as the dining room was still 30%-to-40% full when we arrived late in the brunch service on this 2022 post-Thanksgiving travel weekend. The menu was interesting and brief as expected for a brunch. The food had eye appeal, but its flavors were simply too far off-the-mark for both orders at our table. Both dishes were edible, but surprisingly bland. The shrimp was unpleasant enough that I would think twice before ordering again (supply chain?) If I were a local, I'd consider another visit after some time. Maybe they'll work it all out again. read more

Excessively long wait for food, waitress said the kitchen was backed up...(?) Unless the hotel rooms on a Sunday at noon we ordering food... This felt like an excuse. This restaurant is located inside the Bristol Hotel and the space is very well designed and classy. We have enjoyed two dinners there so far . I had a stuffed trout dish that was delicious the first visit and a salmon prepared in a Mediterranean style the second time. All the food was fresh and flavorful. I came here for the first time years ago. This last visit was by far the best. They have really stepped up their food game. The elements of the dish worked really well together. It is one of the best salmon dishes I have had. Definitely a must try. The cheesecake was also absolutely divine. I hate that this place still can't get it together... Just heard a waitress tell a couple there food was cold because they are so short of staff...although we see plenty walking around including one (emily) just talking at a table for the past 20 min and never bringing us coffee , luckily another waitress did...that excuse can no longer fly . If we are paying full price we should get full service or don't open the restaurant. Coffee cold, eggs Benedict with broken hollandaise sauce and muffin was raw. Well back to Bloom we go...its unfortunate, this boutique hotel is beautiful but the management and staff can't seem to get it together! read more

Quiet Sunday evening dinner for four. Pleasant, attentive service, meal served at a relaxed pace. I think we had two appetizers, calimari and tuna crudo, which were both very good. Soup was a roasted gouda and red pepper that was deemed excellent. Entrees included salmon (very good) and rib eye. The rib eye was as good as any steak I've eaten anywhere as it was cooked perfectly and drizzled with a small bit of very flavorful... not sauce, more like a pasty drizzle - which actually does not sound good by my gosh it was. Had a great experience dinning here last night. Wife and I enjoyed the rooftop bar with great views and drinks. Nice atmosphere, friendly attentive servers great drink selection. After drinks , had dinner , ask for Kate ( awesome server ) she sat us and took our order and was perfect with recommendations ( Bourbon Shrimp and Grits and Duck with various mushrooms) appetizers were also very tasty! Very limited menu with little description of how food is prepared. Trout is cooked whole. Seared scallops were served with an odd base with rice with trout roe on top. Lovely dish but not very tasty. Way overpriced on almost every item ala carts. read more

Unfortunately a vast disappointment. Burger was cold ah. Waitress was overwhelmed. I understand new Covid back rules & how overwhelming it can be. So we all have to adjust. But goodness the food was cold ah y'all & y'all know my food is my passion. & for these prices they gotta get it together. Kitchen is downstairs but damn. Hopefully I can give them another chance. I'd love to because the music was great, bar sublime, & drinks on point. The waitress broke the cork in our wine as well. Never got drink refills either. Such potential. I had the deviled eggs as an appetizer, and they were very good. I asked for bread while I was waiting for my meal to be prepared and they told me that would be five dollars so I declined. Two stars because our wait person went over and above to cover for the back of the house. Now for the food. Salad is simple!! Should be! Not sure why the house salad is served in a bowl too small to eat out of with out the greens diving on to the table. Put it on a plate and take the chore out of eating it.... We ordered the "specials". One prime rib sirloin and one rock fish. The prime rib was ordered on the rare side of medium ( red center) served brown as a biscuit! No au jus or horse radish sauce! Side were ok but it's tough, not impossible, screw up a baked tater. Asparagus was tasty. Now for the fish. It was served on a bed of risotto with green beans, a caper sauce with some micro greens on top. Note to self-- never, ever order a fish dish on a base of anything. The fish filet was broiled with the hide on it. I am not a foodie by any means but I have had rock fish at some pretty upscale places.... Never a piece or presentation like this.. A dud .. We have been to Vivian's a number of times, for breakfast and dinner, and we really want to like this place. The Bristol is a lovely hotel. Vivian's needs to have a menu that be sourced at a reasonable quality level and can be consistently and repeatedly prepared by the back of the room. read more

Their customer service was so bad at Vivian's that the hotel's rooftop lounge comped us drinks to apologize on behalf the hotel (which we've enjoyed before passing through Bristol). Good luck if you get past the doughy lady at the bar also trying to act as hostess :-/ If you go to Bristol, easy decision to skip Vivian's. read more

The food here is top quality. Perfect for a romantic high end evening. You will pay 20-40$ for an entree but it is worth every penny. The shrimp Pappardelle is amazing. Good house made pasta with perfectly cooked shrimp. Sea scallops are good, but the risotto they come with is unbelievable. We will be back!! read more

My sister made reservations for what she thought was an Easter Buffet. It was not. They had an Easter brunch menu. Myself and another diner ordered the salmon with dill sabayon. It was Not a sabayon but a block of something that tasted more of horseradish than dill. Some of the root vegetable hash was raw. Another diner ordered the strawberry Nutella French toast that she said was quite good but she had to request syrup more than once. There were four diners and they brought a bread basket with 3 items and no bread plates. One diner requested more bread and it took an eternity for it to arrive. The offer to refill my iced tea was also long awaited. It was also difficult to hear the waiter...he said he was recovering from laryngitis. The table next to us was carrying on a loud conversation with another patron. The waiter should have moved adjacent to the member of our party who kept telling him he couldn't hear him. On a positive note, the salmon was great-leave off the "sabayon" and do a dill sauce. The diners who had the short rib Mac n cheese and Nutella French toast said they were quite good. The waiter asked multiple times if the diner who had a. Bloody Mary wanted another (bc it's a more expensive drink option) but failed to refill my tea. That patron was our driver and he was being responsible. We drove from Gray for The meal. Frankly, I won't make the drive again. read more

FINALLY carved time out to try this place. Glad I did. It's the only place I've found in the area with Eggs Benedict on the menu. Service provided by Jillwas excellent. Just attentive enough without being obtrusive and seemed genuinely interested in guest satisfaction. My first serving if Eggs Benedict consisted of one prepared perfectly while the second was a bit too done for my taste. Jill and the chef corrected the problem quickly with the second arrival being even more nearly perfect than the first. My only minor suggestion would be to either add a sprinkling of paprika or offer a shaker of it for the guest to add to their own preference. My wife and I were in town today to visit with her family and so we stopped by and got lunch and we were happy with the food and service.

I had very high expectations for this restaurant. The hotel and the restaurant are beautiful. The food was hit or miss. Our fried green tomato and deviled egg appetizers were good. The millionaires coffee was delicious. On the negative side was a $40 ribeye that was below par at best. This was a "select grade" ribeye. For $40 a "prime grade" 12oz was justified. It was cool when it arrived, chewy and tough to cut with a knife. 3 others also got the same ribeye entree with very similar results. Shrimp and grits were good, but limited in portion for $24. Kale Caesar was really good. Again, this place is beautiful and our service by Chris was fantastic. Great service, but $133 for a decent meal was excessive. read more

Completely shocked at the lack of quality in the food preparation. My partners steak ($55) was under cooked. He ordered medium and there were parts that were still purple. His potato was hard, they had to bring another. My Brussel sprouts were too salty. My Bloody Mary was so spicy I couldn't drink it and that was even after the waitress brought more tomato juice to tame it (she didn't offer to even comp it). And one of 3 shrimp that I got wasn't deveined. I normally do not complain about this sort of thing but given the fact our ticket was $178 for our meal ($30 tip). Beautiful bar area and a fantastic view of the neighborhood through floor to ceiling windows. Great menu and attentive wait staff. Here's the problem. I ordered the special. NY strip steak with basil pesto. The steak was lower quality than I expected for the price but I figured I'd eat it anyway. I realized I didn't have a steak knife so I tried to cut it with the butter knife from the place setting. No luck. A bit too tough for the hardware I was given. I asked the server for a steak knife..... I was told "we don't have steak knives". Excuse me. You serve steak but don't provide the correct knife? My I offer some advice: A) stop serving steak Or B) serve prime beef so that it can be cut with a butter knife. Or C) get some freaking steak knives. Please choose "C" and work on the quality of your beef. Your customers will thank you. read more

My husband had a smoked trout bagel that he said was great. He also got a great cup of coffee with a little pitcher of cream. My vegetarian granddaughter had a fruit parfait and a latte she really liked. My 6 year old grandson had a side of bacon and a side of toast as there was no kids menu that he liked. I am lactose intolerant so I asked about soy milk for my coffee and they had none. I got orange juice instead. I asked the waitress to see if the chef could make the egg white frittata without butter or cheese. She said he could but it came with feta cheese on it when I got it. We had to ask to have it made again. This is a nice place. They could have options for people with kids or with health but chose not to. read more
