As a family we love to have sushi at least once a month. We usually order take out but because we were going to see the holiday lights after dinner, we decided to dine in. It wasn't packed or crowded on our visit which was nice since we are still very cautious around crowds. We were instantly greeted from all staff members and seated right away. We really enjoyed our food from start to finish. The fried cheesecake was beyond amazing. All of the sushi was fresh and delicious. Staff members were kind and attentive and the restaurant was tidy and clean. We will definitely continue to order take out here and dine in when we can. read more

I thought I was going to give a 5 star review but then the service slipped after I got my food. I was immediately greeted and sat right before noon on a weekday. I got the correct order for my drink....I always ask for no ice and most times I get ice. Order was taken right away. My soup came out quickly and was steaming hot and delicious. The bento box came out quickly with a salad, 2 specialty rolls and white rice. Rolls were delicious and rolled tightly and did not fall apart. I ate everything and it was the perfect amount of food for lunch. The only thing is I wanted more Wasabi but no one came back to check on me. I finally had to get the attention of a waitress. Came here post a long sit at AMC Lynnhaven 18 (saw Judas & the Black Messiah). I'm talkin' lacquer booths and frosted window decals. People laughing and drinking. Very sexy stuff. Now, before I go into the damage I did eating copious amounts of *almost* gluten free azn delicacies (and a fried cheesecake!), I have to compliment the waitstaff. So bravo to a group of gorgeous galz. The menu was pretty standard, but had some creative additions like a peanut and avocado roll (throw some eel sauce on top). It was very unique. will I order it again? Probably not, but it was a very interesting one-time sample. I also had some classics like a tuna tempora roll and some pork dumplinz. I am a dumpling. There is also another Very Interesting menu item, and I say that not for it's taste, but rather for its name. The dish is shrimp tempura on the inside with crab salad and avocado on the outside. Came here for lunch one day for the first time and tried it out by ordering the bento box. Everything tasted delicious. Only thing I was not a fan of was the salad, it was a little too heavy on the dressing and i was not expecting the taste of it. But, I would def come back here again and order everything else. I ordered tofu teriyaki. The tofu was unseasoned, unpressed, not so much as even sautéed mush with loads of undercooked carrots, 3 pieces of broccoli and 2 strips of bell pepper. The carrots were very bitter. The sauce was thin and added very little flavor. The portion of rice was small. Miso soup was bland, needed more miso. Avocado and cucumber sushi was fine. The ambience inside is nice. If you're going to offer tofu dishes, please train your cooks in how to properly prepare it so it isn't simply straight from a carton and onto a plate. I feel their food is worthy of three stars because while eating the sushi I'm always thinking, "it's good but it's missing something." The fire cracker roll is fried and displayed on the menu as spicy "hot" but it's heat is less than the heat expected from Texas Pete or hot sauce. I have to add lots of wasabi to the rolls to get them up to expected heat levels. The spicy shrimp roll, again, isn't close to hot. It's also mixed with a noticeable amount of mayo and finely minced. I will say that the spicy California roll isn't spicy BUT it's the poster child of what a roll should look like! They pack their rolls full without a ton of rice and the avocado and veggies inside the rolls are always firm and extremely fresh! They have great prices which is probably the reason I go back from time to time but usually for my lunch break. Biggest issue they have is that after ordering you will wait at least a guaranteed 17-25minutes for your order, no matter lunch time or the off hours. read more

My sister and I our on a quest to find our own "Best of the Beach" since we are sort of food snobs(due to being raised by two excellent cooks), so sushi is one of the catagories in our quest. We both love sushi, and this place came as a recomendation from a friend but we were let down big time. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere wasn't bad, a bit dusty perhaps, but I go out to eat for good food. The sushi was sad, sad, sad. I love raw fish, the whole point of sushi in my opinion, but theres was not great quality. We must have came on practice or training night because the rolls were very sloppy and falling apart. This is the worst sushi restaurant I have ever eaten at in my life. The sushi was not fresh and appeared slimy from sitting around, and it was overpriced on top of it all. The icing on the cake was the poor service with a side of attitude any time we asked questions about the dishes. Maybe the poor quality and service can be attributed to COVID, but I have no clue how this place has four stars on Yelp unless it is being manipulated by the owners. I like this place. Great interior- It's bigger that it looks on the outside. And yes, the music in this place is hilarious. We heard the strangest version of Smoke on the Water played on Asian strings and sitar. The sushi is fresh and plentiful. The bento box combo gives you the best bang for your buck. Miso soup, salad, a side of rice and 3 choices from their huge list of sushi and sashimi. Lots of typical rolls as well as specialty ones to choose from. They can be a little slow sometimes, but as long as the food doesn't suck and I don't have to be somewhere else I'm happy to wait. And the staff and chefs always stop by all the tables to check in with you. Get the white tuna sashimi and a dragon roll. And don't bother trying to Shazam their music because I've tried and sadly that app doesn't recognize their music. read more

This is the same owners as Volcano Sushi on General Booth....but this is the original location. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I have been coming here for about 7 years.....and I've NEVER had a bad experience. The lunch bento box is PERFECT! They also have a cheap dinner bento box if you don't want to eat too much. Every roll is amazing here and the fish is never anything less than perfection! I honestly don't know why so many people are obsessed with this place. It is honestly lackluster. There are many sushi places close to volcano, I highly suggest going to a different one instead. The menu is not very allergy-friendly. They do not have gluten free soy sauce. The staff is rather uptight and does not like to be asked questions about the food. AVOCADO IS NOT LIFE Writing this review is going to probably give me a migraine but I think it's worth it. How do I describe this sushi restaurant other than "sushi restaurant with sushi" I'm not sure so there's my challenge. Personally, I love sushi. Well actually I've only had California rolls so that statement isn't completely true. Anyways when attending this food buying and eating area be prepared for a relatively long wait. But the incidents that follow are the kind of material that makes a story for a century. I was in the 7th grade. I spotted a friend across the restaurant so instead of eating with the people I actually came to eat with I just intruded on her table. (Did I pay? OF COURSE NOT!) so anyways the cup song was v trendy around this time so I grabbed a glass bottle and started slamming it against the table quite violently. So violently that I caused it to shatter all over the table and all over our food. Having nothing to eat but a green glob of wasabi, my friend consumed the entire thing under the impression that it was avocado. Before her deadly decision she stated "avocado is life" and then sorta died or something. I had time to warn her but I am not that nice so I chose not to. I always judge a sushi spot on the freshness of their Japanese ginger salad dressing and sashimi because it says a lot about the restaurants focus on quality. This spot did it up and won my heart.
