These guys are great. I was faced with an emergency car issue and needed a reasonable garage who could respond fairly quickly and preferably close to home. After calling 6 or 7 places, Voline fell toward the lower end in pricing, was right in the middle on timing and they are walkable from my home. I dropped the car off believing that I needed an alternator, an expense I was not planning on. I walked home. Two hours later they called me and said the car was fine. I didn't need the expensive replacement after all. That's an honest garage. I was pleased. I asked them if they could install a mirror that I had pre-purchased since they had the vehicle and the mirror was in the car. They worked me back into the schedule. Labor costs were reasonable. I paid about $150 all in; the VW dealer charges $750 for the mirror plus installation. (Note: When they quoted me the alternator, they looked at rebuilt units to save me money. Then they called me back when they did further research and discovered there were two sizes and prices. Thorough.) They were friendly and accommodating, honest and helpful. In a world of people who would take advantage, they went out of their way to do the opposite. My mom has also gotten gas here. Full service means they even clean your windows. Sadly, my car is diesel and they only have regular and premium. I will, however, recommend them to all my friends and visitors. Three cheers to Dick and the team. Voline Garage does good work and the mechanics, Dick and Pat, are friendly, easy to work with and honest. When my brakes were doing a weird thing, but I couldn't determine if it was that or the engine, Dick had me stop by so we could go for a ride to see what it was. The day I came, he was late from a parts run and because I couldn't wait any longer, I came back the next day, which was fine. We scheduled a time for me to drop the car off for service and he called a few hours later with an estimate. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost but when I arrived it was almost double what he said over the phone. The tally on the receipt was legit and made sense, I just wished there wasn't a miscommunication beforehand. I would take my car here again for service. read more

The owner, Dick, is very friendly and accommodating. I needed a ride to and from the garage and he was willing to do so. A big bonus! He explained my car's problem. They offer full service gas here. I like to stop in and let someone else fill 'er up once in a while. The attendant will also put air in your tires which I think is amazing. They don't charge that much more for the gas so this is totally worth it if I am in the area. read more

I had an issue come up with my vehicle that was beyond what I felt I could repair and had used Voline before and felt like I was dealt with very fairly. Luckily it is only a few blocks away. Talked to the owner and his solution sounded exactly what was required and quoted me what I felt was a fair price and what I had paid the last time someone did similar work. (actually Voline was a bit less expensive). Managed to get my truck down to him and a few hours later they were finished. Turned out, they didn't have to do the extensive work that was initially talked about and charged me half of what they had quoted. Disclaimer: I am a girl who does not know a ton about cars besides how to change the tire and to get the oil changed regularly. I own a VW and usually bring it to the dealership, but have been disappointed by their service and prices lately. Voline was recommended to me when I failed my vehicle emissions test a year ago. (Wish I knew before the test that you would fail if any of the warning indicators were on...) This is a no-frills place but their care is impeccable. I'll give up the shuttle service and Keurig coffee to feel like I'm not being taken for a ride. (hehe.) While the dealership wanted to charge me an extra $90 to read the computer error codes, despite me having a printout from the failed emissions test, Voline didn't tack on an extra charge. I needed new brakes and instead of getting as much money as they could and replacing all of them, they told me that I could just replace my front ones now and get the back ones checked out at my next oil change. I felt like they were honest with me and fair with pricing. Another reason I feel they have excellent customer service - I felt like the Anti-Lock Break System warning lights were going off more frequently after the brake change and thus got worried. They told me to swing by any time. They checked the brake fluid level and, when that was OK, borrowed the car to try to replicate the error. They never were able to replicate my complaint but I felt better knowing they had double-checked their work. I will definitely be bringing my car back here as they seem to be honest and care for their customers. read more

I'm a big fan of Voline. I have a 2002 PT Cruiser, which started showing its age a couple of years ago. I'd used an excellent but pricey neighborhood garage with another car in the past and wanted to try to find someplace a little less expensive for the PT Cruiser. A neighbor recommended Voline, so I gave it a try. I've been more than satisfied with the work they've done. This has included replacement of front and back suspension, replacement of the timing belt, front and rear brakes, replacement of the power steering rack, and replacement of the thermostat and radiator among other, smaller jobs. I know enough about cars to understand that each of the repairs was necessary. Replacement of the timing belt was preventive, but I have no desire to deal with the consequences of a broken timing belt so I agreed to have it replaced at 100,000 miles. I've also researched the cost of some of the repairs on various PT Cruiser forums, so I know that Voline's prices are reasonable....probably at the low end of the spectrum There were some problems following the replacement of the power steering rack, including a defective rack, and they made sure that I had a functional car at no additional cost to me. When they had to remove the bad rack and install a new one, that probably cost a day's labor but they didn't pass it along to me. Recently, I had a rod in the front suspension start rattling. I may need a replacement at some point, but they said it would OK for now if they just tightened it, which they did at no charge. It's held for about six months. Despite the retro vibe going on with the building, it's not a pretentious place. The office is piled high with catalogs and boxes of parts, kind of like an automotive man cave. However, the employees are friendly and they always make me feel comfortable when I'm there. I live nearby, so they drive me back and forth. That's probably not a service available to people who live farther away. They also have a full service gas pump with competitive prices. Sometimes I buy a tank of gas when I'm having the car repaired. It'll be full when I pick the car up. Between repairs, I often stop in for gas and air in my tires. I believe they'll also check the oil and provide all the other old fashioned service station amenities at no cost. read more

While driving on our wonderful roads I hit a pothole and a loud rattle started to come from the front driver's wheel. Either the struts or shocks were in trouble, I guessed. I didn't want to drive it far and places are generally the same for this type of repair so I limped to Voline, which was nearby. The office has the crowded busy feel of an auto repair place that's been around a while. I told Dick in the office what had happened, and left the key. I went to wait across the street at the donut shop for my ride and went on with my day. Dick called with an estimate a few hours later. It was indeed the struts. He offered a couple of options, too, for slightly less money I could make do, but I had him replace the entire assembly. I have some idea of what repairs like this cost and Voline came in below average (probably in the ballpark of $950-$1000 a lot of places, he was under $870.) The repair was done by early the next morning and the car's in great shape. It's nice to know about a reliable shop in a safe neighborhood. Recommended. read more

I've been taking my car to Dick's Voline for years, but today I have a whole new respect for them. After some mysterious car troubles this weekend, I dropped it off before work today. The owner looked at it, drove it, ran some computer tests and found nothing wrong. When I picked it up, he didn't charge me a single penny! Voline is a great old school garage. The owner is very knowledgeable of all types of cars. I took my '03 Jetta there to fix my water pump. It took them about 5 hours to do the pump, timing belt, thermostat and ECT sensor. And they were the most affordable. If you are looking for a VW mechanic Voline is your place.
