I am walking distance to this location and I really wish they would put in a better grocery store here. This is by far, the worst grocery store I've ever been to. The produce is terrible - often out dated, the store itself is dirty and smells, and the lines are absurdly long at all times. Going after work or weekends to pick up a few things, forget about it...I'll drive to sprouts even though it's out of the way because it'll be way faster and I'll get better produce. read more

So, this is now our local store, we love carlsbad and love where we live now... But getting used to new shopping, coffee and gas stations is always bitter sweet. This one is quaint and cute... I really wish this Vons would get its act together. They are ALWAYS out of the 3rd cherry Diet Coke for the buy 2 get one free deal, you can't count on getting a birthday cake-or the right one on time-as they don't have a cake decorator regularly. I have been overcharged on wine more than 3 times, and the salmon has gone bad before the sell date. In such a great location, I have hoped for YEARS that they would get their act together. read more

Okay, so who likes grocery shopping, right? And while I tend to hit Trader Joe's and the Farmer's Market for most of our groceries, I also need to hit a grocery store sometimes. I love the people at this store. They are nice, remember you, ask you if you need help until you start to wonder if someone put a "lost" sign on your back, and are just generally good at whatever it is that they do there. So yeah. I have been going to Tamarack Vons since it was a Safeway back in the 80's. They have always been helpful and friendly. They were the neighborhood store and never meant for the population growth and building boom that came to that quiet neighborhood. If you don't want the long lines go to the big Vons on El Camino Real or go at non-peak times. read more

I had a terrible experience at the check out stand. I had a gift card to pay for my groceries for the holiday. My employer every year buys about 60k in gift cards from Vons for thanksgiving. I tried to use my 100 dollar gift card, I ran the card they voided the sale, ran the card again then they tell me I the gift card is not working and I have to pay for the food with my credit card and that did not work either so the manager says to me tare you sure you have the credit available. Of course I do. I got so confused with all the back and forth that I wound up using my credit card and did not use my gift card. I had no intension of paying for those groceries with my credit card, I know that gift card is good, but no I am going to have to spend another 90 dollars in Vons and I do not want to ever shop there again! read more

I love our little Vons, they have everything we need, are friendly and always well stocked. If you want a bigger store, go to the Vons on El Camino Real! I have encountered so many out if town people who complain about the lines and selection. This is a small store, go somewhere else if you want multiple cashiers and unfriendly service. read more

Poor selections and constantly mis managed in terms of how many check stands are open to deal with the amount of shoppers. If the store is even mildly full, you will be waiting a long time to check out. Even worse that they rarely have express lanes open and no self check out. read more

Love to shop at Von's. Been a loyal club card customer for many years. I do have some callouts about this location in Carlsbad. After reading the other reviews, it seems to have similiar concerns where service is the issue. Long lines and poorly selected merchandise. I too have been in those "long lines" on a Saturday evening. Hoping to run in and run out. Well I ran in, but I was not able to do the same. I'm hopeful, management will react to their loyal customer's feedback and improve the service Von's is known for. read more

I have a change of heart since my last review. I gave the store a second chance, due to its great location. Not sure if the remodeled, HOWEVER, store is much better. Great produce section. Staff is friendlier. Parking lot is still a nightmare. But overall I feel the store has improved. read more

Every time I go there the checkout lines are freakin long and slow. If and I mean if they would use the quick checkout line for so many items or less it just might be a plus. Also needs to be enforced if there are more than the required amount of items. Management should always be observing the floor. Or just take the sign off the quick check isle. read more

Avoid. Most if not all the employees are completely disinterested in helping anybody in the store.especially the checkers. You shopping there interrupts their conversations with other employees. Sadly this is been the trend since they got rid of of most full-time employees. If you want to hear the checkers talk about how drunk they got last night or how much they hate working go here. i have only Vons stores in close proximity to my house. (Tamarack and el camino real locations). I am a former Stater Brothers employee and shopper. I am used to an ok with paying the increased cost in food, expecting the quality and service Vons is known for. That having been said, the store off Tamarack is horrible. The produce department is always out of produce, and if it's on sale forget about it being in stock. The people are extremely rude working in that department and there are times i have bought food gotten it home and it is moldy. It is not only the produce section that is low or out of food. Today i was looking for rice on sale.. there was NOTHING on the shelves at 5pm. I asked the supervisor when the deliveries are produce every 2 days rice he said was daily. It makes no sense to be out. He offered to check the back but this having been a normal occurrence i told him to forget about it.. I have had multiple rain checks written and i never seem to go back for the item. I have spoken to the supervisor and multiple employees and nothing has been done. It is worth the drive for me to shop somewhere else I will be sharing this on yelp as well. read more

They have everything you would expect, but there is always a significant line. Day or night, early or late. Nice staff though.

Overall I think Vons is ok, but not this location. This location is so poorly managed and they simply do not employ enough checkers. I counted on a Thursday night at 530 pm only two open lines. One line had 17 people in it and the other line had 14 people in it. Yes, I actually took the time to count and then put my grocery back so I could leave. The only way they are going to learn is if we stop shopping here. Then they get shut down which doesn't bother me as I will take the time as I did that night to drive someone else and get real service. read more

It's convenient, clean and the staff has always been nice. Today my experience while checking out was 0 stars. I came in around 11:10 a.m. today and Matt, my cashier, had the absolute worst attitude. No greeting, no smile. Just a whole lot of huffing and puffing over who knows what. I was treated like an idiot through the whole process. He huffed about the cash I handed him, counted out my change back and just threw it down on the counter right past my hand. Of course I'm thinking 'Are you serious right now!?'. Right after that the other cashier said to him sarcastically, "Matt, you're how old?" Maybe it was just a bad day but if you're looking to make a living in California Matt, you better straighten up. I would follow your coworkers attitude and just smile and enjoy the position YOU applied for. There are plenty of other deserving people out there who need and can do you position with no issue's. I will still continue to frequent here of course. I do enjoy having the convenience of a market near by my work and the other friendly staff members. read more

Frustratingly small, without essential grocery items because a third of the store is dedicated to booze, non-nutritional, or fatty food items. Notoriously never has the one simple thing I need. Parking lot perimeter bushes were packed with trash for years until I complained to the city, who complained to property manager and owner, and now it's been cleaned up and re-barked. This is the perfect store for boozers, beach-bums, homeless, and people who haven't got a clue what to do with a stove. Always long lines because of the population explosion here, and Von's corporate decision years ago not to expand this tiny quick-stop store. Luckily, there's enough booze, that if you drink a 5th before checkout, the place can become any shangri la you imagine. But you may need to drop some acid before even entering this place. read more

When we walked into the store there were gorgeous flowers, that smelled amazing! It was fairly clean and tidy as far as grocery stores go, but we were pleasantly surprised by the helpful staff. We are just visiting the area on vacation and the supervisor who was at the register helped us get set up with a card to get the best prices while we are here and answered some touristy questions for us. There is another store closer to where we are staying but this one is worth the extra few miles drive. read more

Very convenient location, but unfortunately the lines are always miles long... and they have a limited selection of items. The credit card/atm machine at the registers asks more questions than an deposition. The credit card/atm machines are typical of all Vons, however - and most unfortunately. Unfortunately this Von's has terrible staffing management with two checkers operating at 5:45pm on a Thursday with little regard to providing a great customer experience, they managed to dig up another checker for total of 3 with some 35 people trying to maneuver their carts to the checkout lines in an unheard of narrow isles where customers bump into each other all the time and cannot pass two carts down an isle.....this store is an embarrassment and should be shut down or sold to a Trader Joes' type of operation.......it really is the pits.... read more

Very disappointed. I spent $300 on non-perishable products today and later realized that I didn't need all that I had purchased. Went to the customer service desk that was unoccupied to return $100 of the product. After not receiving any assistance I asked an employee for help. He was unable to help me and said the cashier at register 3 could assist me. After waiting on a long line at register 3 I was told that I could not return the product. I asked to speak with a manager and said I would wait at the customer service desk because I did not want to hold up the long line of customers behind me. I waited for a long time at the customer service desk and had to ask two more times to speak with the manager. When the manager finally arrived he said it was company policy to not accept returns for the product I purchased. I told him that I purchased $300 at his store earlier in the day and I was only returning $100 of the product I purchased. As I was getting ready to show him my receipts he walked away. This is the closest food store to my home and I often shop there. Not a good experience. read more
