The poor cashiers had to scramble to find the overide. The customer that required it felt terrible. It was not her fault. We told her mutliple times but she still felt band. I ordered a cake for a graduation and specifically asked if it would be ready the next day and the girl said it would be ready by 10:30. I said no I will pick it up at 2:00. Two problems. One with the store itself, the second, with the pharmacy. #1 the store is doing nothing to prevent people from bringing non-service dogs into the store. According to the county health code, this is ILLEGAL. #2, my 85 yr old USAF veteran mother is being treated badly by a couple of the male pharmacists there. They have angry attitudes and have been very rude to her on multiple occasions, and they never take responsibility for any screw ups with her medications. On top of that, they're always passing the buck, whether it's in person, or on the phone. It's NEVER their fault, right? it's always the doctors office - "go talk to them!" she is always told. Today she was given three different stories over the phone as to why one of her medications was not here. Her doctor's office told her otherwise. I think we're done with this pharmacy. For many, many years this Vons was my go-to store, but a horrible incident with a cashier treating me like crap about 3 years ago made me vow that I would NEVER go back. My mind is being changed bit-by-bit by the deli staff. This Vons is now my go-to for fresh, ready-made meals. A couple of weeks ago I did not see my favorite salmon meals, and deli staff member Crystal went into the back and made two salmon meals for me! Today I went back and again I could not find the meals I love, so deli staff member Melissa made some for me and also was able to get some of the asparagus meals made up for me by the produce department. Melissa then walked me to the aisle to show me where a product was that I could not find. THIS is what I call EXCELLENT customer service. I no longer go to FitChow for my ready-made meals because the Vons Deli has meals that are more delicious than any other that I have tried. I really think this is one of our nicer grocery stores in AV. It's always clean, fully stocked, and they offer a variety of products. I like that they try to pronounce my name, even though they butcher it half the time, LOL. The carts are always available, they have wipes, customer service is nice, B U T... what holds me back from giving them a higher rating is their wait time. Be it a weekday or a holiday, the lines are always long. I came at 6:30am once on a weekday to pick up breakfast and I still waited in line for about 10 minutes. Right before a holiday, the wait time doubles. It's just not very convenient. Compared to the other grocery stores in town, their prices tend to be on the higher end. I've been coming here for years and the experience used to be okay. Ever since management/admin got the self-check-out kiosks it's been terrible. First of all, I despise these machines and never use them. When I have a full cart of groceries, THE LAST THING I want to do is be forever scanning and bagging it all myself. Second, they now only staff evening/night shifts with TWO check-out people. There's nobody to bag the groceries anymore in the check-out lanes and so I do it myself. The line stretches down the aisle as people wait. The greed behind these decisions is plain for anyone w/ half a brain to see. Management and other "higher-ups" in the company have decided they can all skim off the top by shafting everyone below them. That is, not hiring enough staff to make the check-out lines flow quickly and smoothly, and using these miserable kiosks to replace what used to be unionized jobs. And guess who gets to pocket the extra money? Certainly not the rank-and-file employee who actually does the work! Heavens no! With food prices being as high as they are, these greedy people HAVE NO EXCUSE. I have started going to Stater Brothers where they don't have these IDIOT kiosks and have enough staff to check-out and bag. Good going Vons! Three reasons I keep going to this location, the employee Becky who is always amazing to us and makes us feel like family, the Monopoly game and the coupon app. What I don't like is how much expired food I end up getting on almost every single trip. Sometimes they have things marked down when it's going to expire and that's understandable so at least you can choose if you want the discount for something knowing it's going to expire. I'm taking about the regular things with no marking that are already past expiration date. It's frustrating to literally have to check almost every single item purchased. This also has been going on for years and brought to the managers attention, but apparently they don't care. I feel insane for still going there knowing it's a gamble to get unexpired food. I legit love this place. The fruits and veggies are always fresh and the staff are really kind, happy and helpful. Perfect example: Tonight I was running home late from work, and was absolutely starving. So I called the deli and asked if they had any fried chicken. I spoke to Hanna and she said the fryers were shutting down at 8pm (it was 7:48pm) so I asked if she could set some aside for me, that I could be there in a few min. I go to this Vons all the time since it is the only Vons in Quartz Hill. They always have a good selection of produce and organic produce. The employees are nice and helpful. There is a redbox inside the store that is always really busy, and a Starbucks which is relatively fast compared to the chain stores. They don't have a self check out which I miss compared to Albertsons. I like the atmosphere in VONs compared to Albertsons. read more

I have mostly good things to say about this location. Having just moved to the area I'm finding myself sticking with what's near and I've no complaints so far. I will start by mentioning that this place is ALWAYS clean and neat. One of the main things I like about this Vons is the produce and liquor selection; I know it's random but, they're never in bad shape in those areas. Minus one star as the goodies like potato chips and snacks almost always need restocking also no Salvadoran beer and that's disappointing also on the same token wouldn't hate it if the "Hispanic" section had more variety to offer. Don't worry about parking at this place there is plenty! Side note: The female employees here are the SWEETEST in the world and very helpful; some of the males might have a bit of a "trump" attitude if you will toward a select few... ijs something I've observed but I could've read it wrong but I don't think so. I live in Quartz Hill so this Von is the most convenient to go; I wish they'd have a self-check out section like the one in rancho vista. But the other day I had asked my mother to go in there to buy refreshments and she came home to me with high blood pressure, it was so unlike her. She was really upset, because the cashier (Jennifer) was really rude to her. She was talking in a condescending tone to my mother, and I felt horrible for asking my mom to go there to buy something for me only to find that she was mistreated and talked to like she was nobody. For it to be her second or third time shopping there. It was nothing huge either; my mother saw the soda on sale 4/ 8.88$ and the cashier gave her attitude for 1. Putting all the sodas on the belt (Even though each one had a diff UPC/ Diff flavor) 2. Not knowing what a "Vons membership card" (So the lady behind my mother offered he number) 3. Telling her she can not buy more than 4 (Cause my mother bought 8, and 4 was the limit) 4. She ended up over charging her an extra or two Because her total ended coming out to like twenty-something dollars. Realizing she over charged she did take it out. And as simple as this transaction was. Jennifer did not have to talk to my mother the way she did. My mother works retail, she knows how it is. My mom called her out for having really bad customer service and for being a rude person but I went out of my way to go back there to talk to their manager Mac and he was so kind, and had the most approachable attitude. I wish my mom came with me to see how understanding he was but she was really sensitive. Anyways, he apologized on her behalf; and ended up giving me the deal for the sodas. This new era we live in is failing. So many people get so offended so easily, even just to feel superior, or to take advantage of things. But peoples' attitudes are getting worst, it's really sad. I dealt with Ava, who was extremely rude to me and seemed as if she did not need to be bothered. I ended up not even ordering anything after her rudeness was very apparent, and even told her she did not have a good attitude . I drove by this location due to the fact that we were making a beer run! This Vons location has by far the best beer selection I have seen in a grocery store chain. I am used to seeing typical domestic beers at my local stores, but this location had some of the best choices such as Hefeweizen, Newcastle, Guinness, Grolsch, etc. Very clean store run by very helpful staff. There are a lot of food allergies in our family so I'm always on the look out for things that are food allergy friendly. I love that I can find Tofutti cream cheese and sour cream, Daiya cheeses and cream cheese (team Tofutti all the way though), as well as Earth Balance dairy free butters and spreads. The only other place that I've seen carry Earth Balance in the AV is at the Whole Wheatery and their prices can be a little steep sometimes. There's also a small section dedicated to gluten free products. They do carry some gluten free bread but those are mixed in with the regular bread in the bread aisle. I appreciate how they have different styles of gluten free bread besides sliced loafs (i.e. ciabatta, etc.). They do carry wheat free pastas in quinoa and veggie forms but I've either overlooked any rice pastas or they simply don't carry them. read more
