So I went in to buy some chips I decided to use the self check. In the past and in the stores that I have been in you would normally get in line in front of the self check register that you plan to use , this store had 4 with two in each row. To the right was a lady waiting in front of the first row of registers and I was to the left. My turn came up and I proceeded to check out Apparently the other lady was waiting for any register to open Her turn came up and got onto the register opposite of me. This rating is based on the management they have here at the store, plus their misleading prices. If you want to go to a grocery store and see advertisements for prices that they're not going to honor, show up to this place! They'll make sure you're taken care of, and then deny any responsibility whatsoever for projecting a pretense. On top of that, one manager will make you feel very small with the demeaning attitude she shades over you. The only positive customer experience I had at the store was a gentleman named Josh who works the front. I'm in SHOCK!! I stopped at a Vons to grab some lunch as I always do for the last 10 years!. I own a cargo company and I deliver medical supplies throughout Southern California, so I'm always on the road. I prefer to eat at grocery stores than fast food. So I go to Albertsons and Vons all over, every day to use the restroom and buy some lunch. I am including my receipt for a time reference because what had occurred 2 to 3 minutes before I purchase my salad and left. As I was walking into the restroom, there was a woman who work there coming out. I asked her to hold the door because there is a code, she did not acknowledge me and completely ignored me, until I saved the door myself. She then said "oh my God I would've just put the code in again." I responded with "I didn't know you worked here and knew the cod, because you do you didn't even acknowledge me. She responded and said "I didn't know if I could trust you, I didn't know if you were some homeless back here.' My jaw Dropped and before I knew it she was out the double swinging doors. She had on a brown coat, above the knees past the waist, with a fur like/faux fur lining. She must work behind the scenes or have been on break and cold is why she was wearing this coat. The coatis just a perfect way to identify and put a face to my story. I don't think it is appropriate to treat any person whether they are a customer, stranger or someone you're passing by in life like that: I hope this is taken seriously and you look into this employee and pay for and etiquette class. It would also be nice if I had an update. I'd like to also add that I've been to the store before and have never had this experience, so don't let everyone on the team get scolded for this one bad apple. Was really skeptical about doing this because I'm very picky with things like produce, frozen foods fresh stuff Etc. I have now used this service over six times and have been a 110% pleased with the outcome. This particular Vons on Aero Drive has got a great staff. They always keep their store impeccable and I am very impressed with their produce, but the thing that really impressed me was their personal shoppers. Every time I pick up from them everything is neat and orderly, they present me with a receipt, they check if I'm okay with my substitutions and are efficient with refunding if I don't accept the substitutions. I had a short sopping list yesterday, 6-29-24. Stopped at Vons on Mission Gorge. I was using public transportation and could use any help that I could get. I must first mention I live near Vons on 30th St. What a contrast, as 30th St is much smaller within a very densely population of people walking, driving etc. The Mission Valley Vons, more remote yet had a very fresh smell within the meat dept, the shelved items were adequately spaced, the checkers were customer oriented and non judgemental, assisted me in middle of checking out to get another purchase out of locked cabinet. These employees would benefit from some customer service trainings. A cashier named Kelly had an awful attitude and would not help when I asked for help twice. First I asked if she could help me get some balloons inflated from the floral department. She said she didn't work in floral that she'd send someone over. Instead I just saw her chatting and no one came over so I asked someone else for help. Then she wouldnt ring me up because again "she doesn't work in floral". To me, autumn smells like fire-roasted Hatch chiles. Living for a time in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I often passed through grocery store parking lots in September and October, where vendors would set up large, rotating wire mesh bins over gas jets, load the bins with Hatch green chiles, and spin and roast the pods for hours. The jets would blister and char the chiles, which would rub against the sides of the bins, scraping away much of the char. The vendors would sell wet, fragrant chile by the plastic bagful. The smell was compelling; I'd find myself walking slower from store to vehicle, savoring the air, prolonging the experience. Tourists, unfamiliar with the ritual, or with the cuisine and culture that surround it, were often surprised to learn that something so simple is so important in New Mexico. But locals line up for hours for the chance to buy anywhere from just a few to dozens of pounds of roasted Hatch chile. They use some right away, in pork chile verde, chilaquiles, enchiladas, but some is always held out for Christmas, when green chile and cheese tamales and posole make their appearance. I can buy Hatch chiles any time of year. But I'm grateful to Vons for the reminder that autumn is on the way. Let other people become nostalgic at the sight of pumpkins or during a weekend hayride. The signature soups. Hot or cold, this is my go to take home soup. My favorites include the Stomping Steak Chili, Tuscan Tomato Basil Bisque, Loaded Baked Potato, Chunky Chicken Noodle, and Chicken Corn Chowder. 4. I'm an oj snob, and I really only drink two kinds other than fresh squeezed oj. Florida's Natural usually $3 each, is my favorite orange juice is always on sale. ALWAYS! :) . This week its $2.39! I usually also grab a Good Belly (Pomegrante Blackberry) while getting my oj, go probiotics! 5. They usually have everything I want in stock every time I come here, and the staff is always super helpful. 6. Beautiful floral arrangements when I walk through the door. I love seeing what fresh flowers they have on display and the new color of my favorite orchids. I am a creature of habit and usually come in through the same door (but that might be for the ease of parking). He's an older man, short, red face, and white hair. He hates his job and the customers too. This is by FAR the worst Vons I have ever experienced. I have been coming here for 5 years, as I live literally 2 minutes up the road and every single time we come here, we are met with the unbelievably rude attitudes of staff, as well as management. As I work in management in the restaurant industry, I understand a thing or two about hospitality and customer service and it looks like this venue needs to revisit their training. I have never written a review about it, never wanted to go that far, however today their Apple Pay function was not working-- I usually use it all the time. The cashier looked at me and told me that I "probably don't have enough money on my account" to pay for my $50 groceries. Not only is that extremely rude, and obviously a huge assumption to make about a stranger who definitely DOES have the funds to pay, but when I went back with cash to pay for my things just 2 minutes later, they had already put all of my things away and had the audacity to give me attitude and be so rude when I asked if they could bring the items back, to they point where the cashier's voice was elevated and basically yelling at me. I don't know about the rest of the world, but to me, you never make comments to others about their money, especially ones that assume you don't have any! I've won many prizes playing Monopoly this year. I've cashed the prices in at different locations. After spending about an hour searching out all the items I won at this location, the cashier and the manager said holding the prize winning tickets was not good enough... they said that I needed to leave scan everything into the app and come back so I told them to fuck themselves, left the instant winner tickets and that I just wasted over an hour of my time and they completely ruined my customer experience while enforcing rules that none of the other stores mentioned, nor enforced. You would think the manager would know better. There's a useless person (spicy Latina woman with way too much attitude like she runs things) at self checkout telling people what stand is open. I will admit right away that I do not love Vons. I feel like their prices are always so high that it makes it hardly ever worth coming here for the variety and I stick to Target for my pantry items. I get meat, dairy, and produces from Sprouts. Every now and then I just need something and it is not convenient for me to go elsewhere and I come to Vons. This location is on the way home from work for me so I end up running in here a few times a month. It is a medium sized store so it has more variety than target and some of the smaller locations but doesn't have everything. I think I would be able to do my weekly shopping here though. I will say that I am impressed with the to go meals and foods they offer near the deli area here. And the cake is delicious. The staff is always friendly and the lines at the register always go quickly which is nice. read more

This is the weirdest grocery store in all of San Diego - even weirder than that grocery store in the garage of that guy's house, or the bodega that is part grocery store, part car repair, part hooker house. First of all, they have given you the full assortment of products that you would find in any regular Vons. So, rest assured - if you are looking for that great deal on Hunts Ketchup, then you will find it in this store. Why is that weird you might ask...because this store is about 2/3 of the size of a normal Vons. Everything is compacted into a tighter space. The ceiling is lower or the shelving racks higher or something because it feels like the walls are closing in. Seriously - if you're in The Witness Protection program, this store is for you because you could easily hide amongst the congested aisles, which are not nearly as wide as a traditional Vons. It really reminds me of how most of the grocery stores used to be back in the 90s, when grocery shopping was just a to-do and not an "experience" like the stores try to make it today. It's worth a look if you're in need of some food, but be aware it's very busy, highly congested, there are no self check outs, and if you're closterphobic, then there's gonna be a problem here. read more

I didn't get treated to well at this Vons. Went there at around 2am as the Vons near me is closed by then. Was mainly going in for a sale on chicken breasts. When I got there, I couldn't find them, and I asked a worker who ended up getting the manager Renee. I don't know what this Von's is doing with their meats but 100% of the packages I open STINK! It's as if the store takes too long to put them away and they're sitting in the heat for awhile. It's the same even if opened the same day bought, and the expiration date is two weeks away. I moved here from OC a few months ago and never ever had "fresh" meat smell like it does from this Vons. Also, they allow dogs in the grocery store and while checking out a few weeks ago I watched a puppy pee all over the cart it was in and the floor of the checkout aisle and the owners didn't think anyone saw and snuck out pretending nothing happened. Really gross. I'm a dog lover and owner but really, a grocery store? Where people buy what goes in their mouth? Please consider changing the policy. Plus the carts here aren't sanitized by staff, so if the next person didn't clean it themselves they were touching and placing their groceries in the puppy pee. I was trying to get some cheese from the deli-prepare foods section and unfortunately there was no one to assist me, because the person in charge was out to lunch, which I get, everyone is entitled to have a lunch break, but why isn't there someone else replacing the person while at lunch. I've never experienced another Vons with the same disorganization or overall unhelpful/negative vibe. We've lived here for 8 years and this is the closest grocery store to us. I will say it's gotten SLIGHTLY better. Some of the rows are better organized now and SOME of the staff is nice also. My kids got free cookies from the bakery last time (totally unexpected) and today my cashier (new, young male) was very friendly. It seems like they are finally hiring new staff that are polite. Most of the people that historically have worked here are rude, unhelpful, and make comments or facial expressions directly in front of you. The vibe is just not good most of the time. Once I saw the male manager get into a very uncomfortable political discussion with a young woman who truly wasn't trying to engage... also, today- Rhonda was extremely rude to another customer that was Black and an English language learner and it was SO uncomfortable because he was just doing his job... and thankfully another staff member made a comment that it wasn't cool... but we see this type of interaction all the time. On 2/13/23, I shopped at Vons, 6555 Mission Gorge Rd.: San Diego, CA.92120. My bill was $44.55; however, I was significantly overcharged on one item as follows: SWEET POTATOES, 2.12 Lbs @ $0.68 charged $5.35. How could the self-check register come up with that price? I went back on 2/14 and showed the receipt to a cashier when I was making another purchase. She checked the price and receipt and said that it was okay. I asked to speak to the manager and was told to go to aisle 1. The manager looked carefully at the receipt and did a few calculations and gave me one dollar and change back. This was still off by a couple of dollars. This is terrible customer service. There were 3 problems: the programming of the self check register, the cashier who checked my receipt, and the manager who shorted my refund intentionally. read more

Been going here for roughly 15 years and I've had my ups and downs with this place.... I've grabbed beer early in the am (on my way home from work) and a samidge for lunch at normal hours when I started working days. This place has been open in all my times of need, yet the bakery/deli does close. Night shifters don't expect to get your samidge fix because you're out of luck! The lines can be a bit crazy at times but they try to get you out quickly. People here are usually friendly and it doesn't hurt so much to spend alllll the monies on food for the baby monster when I'm getting pennies off on gas. Worst Vons ever. Whoever writes the schedule for the store needs to be demoted. There is never enough cashiers. 1 cashier on a Sunday, really. And I can't go to self check because I have alcohol. Then when a supervisor gets up there to ring an employee asks for her keys for a delivery and words that should not be spoken in front of customers come out of her mouth. Very inappropriate. I love this Vons! First of all, it is right near my house so if I am ever out of something I can just jog down there and grab what I need. They have a great selection of everything. The staff remembers your face and in some cases even me and my daughters name and says hi when I go through their lane. It's this little bit of customer service that I really appreciate that keeps me coming back. There is a Starbucks in the store too so if you get tired you can grab a latte or chai on your way out. The bakery and deli are amazing. They have a super selection of cakes. When I went to go find something special for my moms birthday they had exactly what I needed. They are in the case so you can just grab them and go on your way. The parking lot is huge and there is plenty of parking. It is also close to a Wells Fargo ATM, a CVS drugstore, and Bank of America as well as a few other stores in the strip mall that it is located in. Very convenient. read more

Let me enlighten you all with only 1 of many experiences. I purchased the "fresh" dipped strawberries. Oh boy was that a mistake. I had to look thoroughly for some strawberries that didn't have mold (they don't bother to refrigerate them). When I thought I finally found some I happily left thinking it would be unproblematic. Although when eating them I found not one, but 2 spoiled strawberries! Paying $17 for 9 strawberries is just like throwing your money down the drain. I then had to drive back there to get a refund and was met with the most idiotic & demeaning response. The supervisor, and older women stated "why didn't you check them before you left!". Excuse me, that's your job! She then asked one of the employees to issue a refund, as she sighed so loud I'm sure the whole store heard. It's truly disgusting that she responded like that. I go shopping there and it says two boxes of frosted mini wheat for five dollars so I bought two boxes and go up to the register where they try to tell me that it's not the right price that they're five dollars each and that they were in the wrong place on the shelf and won't give me the price that they were Marked. If a product is placed in front of a tag that says a certain price that should be the price when I get up to the register. I then ask the clerk to give me that price and he tries to argue with me and say that the boxes were in front of that tag price instead of just giving me the price that it was marked at. I guess I'll be shopping at Walmart from now on. If you want to pay three times as much for your groceries and be disrespected by the staff while checking out then shop at this Vons.
