She warned us about the long line, but thankfully when we visited after dinner, the line wasn't bad at all. The selection is huge and to be honest nothing really stood out to me, I just randomly got a chocolate cake cocoa puff donut, it was delicious! It's not too sweet like some of the donuts I had before. My boyfriend got a gigantic donut I don't remember the name, but it has peanut butter, peanut, chocolate chips and apple fritters donut. I love donuts but I wasn't a huge fan of Voodoo Doughnut. While visiting Denver, this was the *ONLY* place a friend had on her list to visit. We had some time to kill on a Friday morning before our flight so we headed to the doughnut shop. She had talked non-stop about the s'more doughnut so she got that and another. I purchased the Homer and the Voodoo Doll. Both were ok but nothing to spectacular. Out of the two, I did enjoy the Voodoo Doll a bit more. I feel like the pricing reflected the name recognition and tourists that come in (guilty). The line moved quickly but there was no place to enjoy the doughnuts once purchased. I was so excited to try Voodoo doughnuts after years of hearing about them. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed by my experience. I tried both the voodoo doll and the maple cream. The voodoo doll has a raspberry jelly filling and it was absolutely the highlight. However, I was disappointed to find that only half the donut had the delicious filling. The donut itself was also a bit dry and not my favorite. The maple cream filling again was yummy but for the same reasons I wasn't a huge fan of the donut itself. One of my customers was having an all day training session so I offered to provide the doughnuts to get everyone started on a sugar high. Once I heard Denver had a Voodoo Doughnut, I immediately made plans to make this the place to pick up a couple dozen. When I arrived there were approximately six other people waiting in line and two people were taking orders. As the line continued to fill up, one other person started taking orders and it appeared they might be in training. The line wasn't terribly excessive, but if I hadn't left myself time I would have been late to the meeting. The gentleman who waited on me explained to me the way their different dozens worked, and we settled on the Voodoo Dozen which apparently gets you eight or nine of the more normal doughnuts with three or four of the speciality doughnuts placed on top. For myself I decided to try the Graham Slam and the Voodoo Cream doughnuts. Both doughnuts were massive and while I thought the Graham Slam was amazing the Voodoo Cream wasn't as special. I'm very glad I gave the place a try as I've never managed to make it to the ones in either Portland, OR or Austin, TX. I would also point out the customers were very impressed I picked up doughnuts from Voodoo, so that was a bonus as well. read more

I guess I don't exactly understand what the hype is about this place. I mean the donuts are good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I've ever had a bad donut so I'm not sure that's saying much. I have forgotten to review this place the last couple times I've gone while I've been in Denver. This place has turned into somewhat of a tradition for my group of friends and myself each year we come to town and watch Real Salt Lake beat the Colorado Rapids. The staff is always super friendly and seem to move through the line of customers generally pretty fast. They have quite the menu of doughnuts to pick from. I've tried quite a few of them over the years and honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The doughnuts are rather tasty and priced just right. It is nice that you can now pay with a card, rather than just cash, as they previously were a cash only establishment. If you are in town I definitely recommend coming here and giving them a shot. I especially recommend coming here if you are in town watching a sporting event and your team has just trampled one of theirs. Stopped by Voodoo as the last destination on my weekend trip to Denver. I had already been to the original in Portland, so expectations ran high. While the location I would definitely say is far more sketch than downtown Portland, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. I wanted to bring a box of donuts home to Phoenix for my wife, and the staff was awesome enough to tell me not to select any jelly-filled donuts for the flight (no voodoo doll donut for the wifey, boooo). He explained that the TSA is now counting these donuts as over the limit for "liquids" and thus will promptly throw them out at security check!!! Glad I wasn't one of those sorry souls who had to experience that, sheesh! The donuts were as good as always, including my fav voodoo doll and the famous maple bacon. The only downside to this location is that there is no eating area like the Portland one. Also, parking can be a little of a pain in not the best area of town. I had first heard of Voodoo Doughnut from a show on the Food Network. I was very surprised to find a location a block away from my hotel in Denver since they're based out of Portland, OR. This dimly lit doughnut shop had no seating and accepts CASH ONLY, no credit cards. They do have some cool looking doughnuts though. Over the course of few visits, I tried the Captain, My Captain, Froot Loops, Old Dirty Bastard, Maple Bacon, and a maple cruller. The majority of them were just very sweet doughnuts. But they were pretty cheap, at just over $2, which isn't bad for a gourmet doughnut. My favorite was the Old Dirty Bastard, which had peanut butter, Oreos, and chocolate on a plain doughnut. There's not much jazz to the decor of the place and they don't need it. You come here for one reason and one reason only- THE DONUTS! There were so many options it was rather hard to decide. I ended up going with the Oh Captain, My Captain (vanilla frosted donut with Cap'n Crunch Berries on top), Portland Cream (massive donut with A LOT of Bavarian cream) and a blueberry glazed. Voodoo you've got some kickass doughnuts needless to say! Now this is a doughnut to rave about. They were bigger than I thought they would be. Bigger than my palm and easily to share. First time having them and not my last. I took some my home from the airport and funny because upon entry the flight attendants smiled with the pink box. We got 1/2 a dozen: homer, mango tango, apple fritter, Mexican hot chocolate cake, hibiscus raised glazed, and some oreo one. I just wish I had tired more to see which one I loved the most. I have to give this place a 4 star review because it was just about everything I was expecting. It is a cool little doughnut shop with eclectic flavors and toppings. I got the grape ape doughnut (delicious), the blueberry cake doughnut (delicious), and a doughnut with mini m&m's on it (really good). I pointed out the mistake and he apologized and just put the other one in my bag without saying a word. Yay free doughnut! If you are giving this place bad reviews because their doughnuts are too sweet or you didn't like the flavor combinations, that's stupid because they literally have something for everybody here, seriously there are like 40 different kinds of doughnuts. Here are the things that made it a 4 star over a 5 star though. It's not in a great part of town but not in a bad part of town. The interior is cool but I wish they had seating. It is a cash only establishment which sucks but they do have an ATM that charges more than the price of two doughnuts so that's not the best. That's about it though. After waiting in line for about 45 minutes I had very high expectations for Voodoo Donuts and they did not disappoint. They had a really solid selection of donuts and there are about 10 more that I want to try after deciding on a Rocky Road and Chocolate Old Fashioned. One thing I now know for next time is to only eat half of the donut. After devouring the whole Rocky Road in about 30 seconds because it was so delicious I started to feel sick.
