We had an extremely disappointing and embarrassing experience at Voodoo Lounge. We drove over an hour to Kansas City specifically to see Dolewite, purchased VIP tickets, and paid for a hotel for the night. This was a planned night out that we were genuinely excited about. My husband was removed from the venue for "swaying" a few times on the dance floor. That was it. No aggression, no disruption, no intoxicated behavior, no confrontation. He has severe knee issues and was simply shifting his weight while standing and enjoying the music. Instead of checking in or handling the situation with any kind of discretion or compassion, security immediately escalated it and kicked us out entirely. It was humiliating, unnecessary, and completely ruined our night. We lost our VIP experience, the show we traveled for, and the money spent on tickets and lodging. There was absolutely no attempt to understand the situation or treat us like paying customers. This could have been handled in a respectful way, but it was not. Unfortunately, we will not be returning, and I would caution others that security here seems overly aggressive and unwilling to use basic judgment. A night that was meant to be fun turned into an awful memory. Side note: We did not drive , we took uber to and from hotel. It was an expensive evening-RUINED! Also , I googled voodoo lounge after we got back to hotel and the aggressive behavior seems to be a trend of theirs. Something needs to change. We had a lady directly in front of us thrashing about and spilling her drink ALL OVER THE FLOOR and she was left alone. Made zero sense. read more

What's NOT to say about Voodoo, I like the name, used to take my mom and her friends to 107 groove parties on Saturday's, went to Lil Kim concert, E40 an Spice one, had VIP once an they have VIP seats that if you get there early you can sit in for free. They also have a outdoor lounge area to smoke an mingle in. Overall I really enjoyed this place...last time I was supposed to go I got tix to see Tech Nine but had my ride showed up late so I said skip it disappointed, called an Uber to go elsewhere an the driver said he would take me but by this time I had changed my clothes so I didn't get to go... read more

Went to see KeKe Wyatt, I was on time. The seats were a good view ofvthe stage but they are not made for sitting long term. About 1/2 way through my rear end way very unhappy. The seats were very poor quality, my better half says the bar was over priced. Now the sound quality, the sound man had the background drowing out the singers. It wasnt until the headliner called him out that the issue was resolved. Now the opening act Datruth Band was great, I would have paid to just see them. They were professional and local to KC. I will not speak on the other acts as they did not move the needle. The head liner did not come out until 10:45 and the concert started at 8:00 pm. When she (KeKe Wyatt) came out finally. Her vocals were amazing and personality was inviting. The issue I have is she asked the crowd to often to sing vs her singing (which is what I paid for) it was a mother day gift for the Mrs. Well here is the kicker and it was timed as she took forever to come to the stage . Keke Wyatt was only on for 37 min. When she said yall have a good night i ambthinking who is yall? We are not going anywhere because you just got here. I wish she performed longer with less audience interaction. So can she sing...absolutely put her performance leaves alot to be perfected. read more

Small venue, and it was beyond loud. I have been to a ton of rock shows in my life, but for the size of this place, it was way too loud. Also, what is the point of buying a seat when you can't even sit in it. I paid for 2 assigned seats, and when we got there, we were told it dont matter where you sit. Why did I spend extra money not to get my seat. Also, you're going to stay thirsty. Took 40 minutes to get 2 drinks because they don't have lines or enough bar tenders available to get you a drink. Lighting on point, sound was killing it, bands were crazy fun some even really good. I really just wanted to dance, and so I did. It was almost a variety show of performers. The DJ knew his stuff, the drinks were strong and staff were decent human beings. Dare I say even nice. Some casinos the staff can seem really uptight because security has to be. So I'm really impressed when casino staff are able to give off a good vibe. It's a good sign when staff genuinely seem to like their jobs. It makes me feel comfortable and wanna come back. I was loving the upstairs lounge, couches, and tables. Also provides some birds eye view to some great people watching. At one point I wanted to check out the casino but once you leave you can't get back in unless you pay again and a drink bought at the casino I couldn't bring into Voodoo which is inside the casino. Decent venue for a concert. Venue is pretty small with lots of standing room. Some seating upstairs with a few tables and bleacher seating. 2 bars on each side where there is a weird flow of people waiting in line. Lots of bathroom space in the back of the club. There's also something to be said for being able to grab food and hit the casino before or after going to a show. I would come back for a show anytime. read more

Last night was my 2nd visit to see a show at the Voodoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino, the first time was about a decade ago. That seems strange because I attend about 20-25 concerts per year. They just don't seem to book a lot of shows for my demographic or taste it appears, which is sad because I like this venue. The space is well maintained and has good sound. Two bars and a few tables on the main floor with a large area in front of the stage for standing. This is a mid size venue that would be on the same size capacity as The Truman, The Madrid, or Knuckleheads Garage; just the right size for a fun crowd and still be able to get up close and personal with the performers. Another plus is that parking is free and safe and there is food and drink options on site with gambling or a hotel to make it a complete night or weekend destination. I just wish the booking agent would call me and ask what shows to bring in so I could attend more often. read more

Please harrah's or voodoo lounge or whoever makes these decisions you have to listen to me. Please market your concerts more often. You have a good space for live music. The tickets are affordable and the staff is friendly. So why hide it from the rest of KC? When i was there you had a Tool tribute band and a Rage Against the Machine tribute band. For $15 they put on one helluva show. However there was only about 100 people in attendance. Why didn't more people know about this show? It was pretty cool to have a private concert like this but you guys really need to get the word out on the street. Idea - host an elite Yelp event there :) we'll tell everyone for you. read more

I really enjoy Voodoo. First Saturdays is oldies night. So, I get to two-step(or pretend to two-step) all night long. The folks are friendly and its free entry before 9 or 10. after that its only $5. They have great drink specials $6 long islands $7 other drinks. There are two floors and three bar stations. They also have theater/stadium seats in a section up top which gives a nice view of the scene. There are tons of tables on the bottom level and couch life chairs on the upper level. I have been to several concerts here on first Saturdays and the stage is large enough that everyone has a good view. This is a safe place to dance and vibe, so I love it. read more

Saturdays nights are Latin night, I decided to check it out since I have been looking for a Latin club ever since I moved to kc. Voodoo is located inside Harrahs casino, don't get discouraged because of this. Things I loved: 1. They offer free valet, I took full advantage of this since I opted out of wearing a jacket and paired my outfit with stilettos. 2. Getting there is convenient and you'll find helpful staff everywhere you look. 3. It's a Latin spot, the crowd is mostly Hispanic and actually know how to dance... 4. The dance floor is never empty. 5. The dj plays all the Latin hits from classics to new music. 6. There's VIP along with free sitting around the dance floor. 7. There are two bars, I didn't struggle or have to wait to order my drinks. 8. The people are there to dance, no drama. I wasn't too excited about the following: 1. The have $10 cover charge 2. Margaritas were $8 each and fairly small. 3. I would have enjoyed more variety in music. It's 80% salsa all the time. 4. Most of the crowd is over 35, I would have liked to see a wider range. I will check it out again to give it a fair chance. read more

We go to a ton of local concerts and therefore experience a variety of different venues. I have to say the strong arm tactics of the bouncers removing us from a recent show was beyond obnoxious. I understand clearing a crowd but it was overkill. The show was great, the sound amazing, and the bartending attentive. But the treatment at the end of the night left a bad taste in my mouth. We don't get that kind of treatment at Ameristar. And certainly don't get it at any other venue in KC. I have already purchased tickets to another show here but after that, I will avoid this place like the plague. read more

A pleasant surprise! When I think about seeing music at a casino, several negative connotations come to mind. Odds are that we are seeing somebody washed up or on the decline. Most likely, the venue will be thrown together poorly, and the sound and presentation will be mediocre at best. Voodoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City was definitely above my expectations. My friend and I went to KC to see Stone Temple Pilots, a band that sadly fits the description above. Once an arena rock band, STP was forced to fire the original lead singer and scale down the venues. Hence, our trip to the casino. Voodoo Lounge is split into three sections: general admission floor, side lounge areas, and a set of "bleachers" in the balcony. We had seats in the balcony, which was a good view, but opted to stand in front of the stage. Before the fine fans of KC trashed the floor, the venue was actually pretty clean, and my depiction of "casino venue eyesore" was busted when we entered. It was actually a pretty neat looking place. As for the bar, the bartenders were surprisingly nice to us. Beer was a flat five dollars, which I thought was strange. Boulevard and other craft beer was the same price as Bud and Coors. I found that pricing odd. Ultimately, I would have probably rather been downtown for a concert, but Voodoo Lounge was pretty cool. I wouldn't be against coming to another show there. read more

Voodoo needs some new juju! The venue is fantastic. The management is in need of an overhaul. I love the intimacy created by the stage size and the structural design is perfect. The lights and audio tech are perfectly executed. Also, I've never had to wait for the restroom. We purchased tickets for our whole family to see Liverpool. The tickets were chosen carefully based on the seating chart published by Voodoo Lounge. We had an older adult who needed to be on an aisle seat so we purchased nearly an entire row which was pictured as having an aisle between it and the preceeding row. It looked like plenty of room and we should have been able to stand up and walk straight to the bar or restroom. Unfortunately when we arrived the rows were pushed together and there was no aisle. In fact, there was less than 5 inches between the fronts of our seats and the backs of those directly in front of us. No exaggeration. We had to ask the people in front and behind to adjust their seats to allow is access to sit down. Adding to the feeling of congestion, the temperature was uncomfortably high. An older adult sitting directly behind us got overheated and collapsed. We had to move our chairs and stand to the side to allow emergency crews to attend to the man. The venue does not provide free water, in fact disallows service staff to give water to patrons. This is unacceptable. Water is a bar tenders best friend. It helps with managing intoxication and is generally the drink of choice for designated drivers. Charging for it is a mistake. A few policy changes and improved event management could make this one of the greatest venues in KC. There is nothing like seeing a band or comedian up close and personal. Don't let poor execution get in the way of a great time! read more

I made the mistake of ordering bottle service and actually expecting service. Instead I felt like I was in a school from hell, maybe a prison would be a better comparison, because they watched me like a hawk and gave absolutely nothing except rules. This was my experience from last year when I went to watch Cherry Bomb, one of my favorite bands. (Please notice who is writing this. I am not a crazy 21 year old hard drinking man but a 51 year old woman who is only slightly wilder than she looks.) This year, New Years Eve to be exact, a friend made the same mistake that I did. He ordered bottle service so that he could reserve a table for he and his friends. When a couple of them decided they wanted to leave to go into the casino for a short while, they were told "no, you can't leave and return." Then things got worse rapidly when he made the mistake of offering money to the doorman to let them back in. Then they were kicked out of the entire establishment. Oh, not just them, but their entire party! I will go back to the VooDoo, when and if, they have a good band, but I won't spend the extra money for bottle service. I understand that they are under stricter rules because of the gaming commission but they need to learn a better way to inform and serve their customers instead of making their customers feel like they are in prison or worse. Bottle service always looks so cool on tv. Boy, bottle service isn't fun here in Kansas City at the VooDoo Lounge! read more

The Voodoo Lounge could be the best venue in Kansas City. Really. It's constructed the perfect layout complete with a state of the art sound and lighting system that nobody in town can match. Unfortunately, the Voodoo has severely fallen off its game. The schedule used to be filled with a wide variety of cutting edge acts and events. Any more the acts are mostly corporate or radio events with a hot act every once in a great while. And not only has the talent lagged, so has the hospitality. I went to see a friend's cover band recently and got a quick introduction to the venue's so called security staff. A small group was at a couch behind the soundboard and stood up to take a picture of themselves with the stage and the lighting in the background. A couple of the guys leaned up against the wall. A security guard yelled something at them, but nobody could understand him because of the sound so they went back to their picture. Enraged, the security guard had the whole couple kicked out of the club. I asked management why and was told that the group was too drunk and rowdy. The band was on their third song and this group was nowhere near too intoxicated. It was an embarrassing show of authority. Later the band tried to invite somebody in the crowd to sing. The security staff wouldn't let that person on stage so he stood on the floor and sang his song. Enough is enough. If there's a show I have to see I'll come and see it, but until the Voodoo Lounge puts somebody in charge who knows how to run a venue and a security staff then I'll find some place else to see my friends' cover band perform. Preferably one that doesn't charge $6 for a Miller Lite. read more

This place has a cool layout and seems like it would be a fun place to party and drink but Friday when I was there they had some mma fights there, which we pretty entertaining, but the. I went to check out Cover Wars (a battle of bands for cover bands). $10 to check out cover bands is a bit steep, but then again we're isolated in a casino/hotel which happens to have a concert venue inside. It's no different than what I would expect to happen at the Hard Rock @ Universal Orlando or the House of Blues @ Downtown Disney. One cool thing....if you wanted to go up to your room and have a drink between bands, they did allow re-entry. That is unheard of at a concert venue...very cool. It saved us a few bucks, because drinking here was also what you would expect at a concert venue...pricey as hell. The bartender was cool. The stage and sound were great. The drinks were stiff. The atmosphere was a good time. So good that I'll being going back this Sunday to do it again. I book bands for a club in Kansas City...cover bands none-the-less. The quality of bands that were brought to the stage was enough to get my attention. If you want to hang with the big dogs, you have to pay the big dog price. We had a good time, and were surprised how big the venue was when we got inside. I wish they held more national act concerts here...cool spot! read more

Nice stage and sound setup, fair pricing and impressive talent! We go for salsa nights, DJs and other live music. I agree they need more seats! Consider reducing the BS VIP area or using space upstairs if needed. We buy fewer drinks because we have no place to leave them when dancing. The few small tables are great when available...usually someone stays with our stuff (and drinks) when bouncing out to the floor. Otherwise promoting the shows more sounds like a great idea. read more

I'm reviewing the Nightclub, as I've never been to an event (they do concerts, comedians, sporting events, etc) at VooDoo. As far as I'm concerned this is the only real "club" in KC. It's huge, so you aren't pressed up against sweaty strangers all night-unless you want to be ;-) I'll admit the only times I've gone we've been VIP, so that will effect my experience, but the music is the same for everyone and the music is the big pull here. That and it's a safe club, and it's big, and I like the casino, and there is a really nice mix of people, and...and...and... :-) Short story, I love this place. If my people are trying to get out and "club" (which I'll admit is rare, cause we're getting old), but when we do, my preference is VooDoo. I like the music (mostly hip hop and rap, with some pop and a little string of house at some point of the night - this is when I put my feet up and cool off from the dance floor) The only thing keeping VooDoo from being 5 stars is that the cost is high. I don't know what normal drinks cost, but the cheapest bottle in VIP is $200 + 18% = $236. They have you purchase a bottle for every fourth person in our group. So, for 4-7 people the bottle minimum is one. If you had 8-11 people the bottle minimum would be two, etc... VIP gets you: - Admission - Front of the line access and full access to VIP - Your bottle(s) of premium alcohol with two mixers (free refills on mixers) and 4 Red Bulls for each bottle purchased - A server to pour your first round of drinks - A table and roped off area Without VIP the cover is only $5 on most nights and I can't tell you drink prices unfortunately. Oh, and the line can get ridiculous long too since they frisk every person that comes in, another advantage to being VIP, skip right to the front of that line. I complain about the cost, cause I'm cheap, but honestly VIP is the way to go here. And let's say you fell into the best case scenario sweet spot of the cheapest bottle and 7 people, you get out for less than $34 a person. It's not horrible, I'm just "frugal". read more

I attended a great Yelp event a few months back here, and it was my first time to the Voodoo Lounge. I liked the way the venue is laid out. It's spacious with a nice decor, and plenty of monitors around. The stage is centered and you have a good view of it wherever you're seated, standing, or dancing about. The sound system is really good, although a bit loud at times for these old ears. There's a full bar, and the bartenders do a good job getting the drinks out and keeping the line moving. That goes for all of the staff. They all do a good job. They're friendly and helpful. I also liked the level of security they had in force. Now that I've had the pleasure of attending an event and concert here, I look foreword to when they'll have a concert that I want to see. read more

A very nice venue for a variety of things! I have been for concerts and had an amazing experience every time. The sound is state of the art and that can make or break a concert. I am only writing this to give compliments to a manager named DUSTIN. He went over and above to accommodate me and my family when our table that we paid $359 for 4 tickets was not satisfactory to our party. He is an asset to the Voo Doo Lounge and deserves a raise. The table that we purchased sat only 4 as we knew but what we did not know since this was our first time coming to this lounge was that being upstairs only 2 of us were able to see the show which was over the glass balcony. We would have had to stand to see and we are all over 60 years of age. I will NEVER, if I come back, buy seats at a table again. But again, DUSTIN THE MANAGER, reseated us and we were very happy after that. read more

When we got up to dance, the people behind us started throwing ice at us and then had security kick us out. For dancing. At a concert. I've danced at a lot of concerts at a lot of venues and have never had anyone complain. This place is a joke. Don't waste your money. Update: We called the GM and she apologized for the behavior of the manager the night we were there and is refunding our money. Rating a venue with as diverse events as MMA and mainstream comedy is almost as effective as rating a flight based solely on the seat but I'll be careful here. I won't even tell you why I was at VooDoo Lounge. VooDoo Lounge has a lot going for it. It's a great space, it was relatively clean, didn't smell like cigarettes or stale alcohol, there were restrooms nearby and service was clearly available. Lighting was good and the overall decor was comfortable. There were a couple not so perfect things though: - The seats were kinda flimsy, the seat backs were wobbly and I felt like they were unstable - I can't really blame VooDoo for this but will anyway, the bartenders didn't really pay attention to the order of people approaching the bar so there were a couple jerks that stood next to me while I was waiting to order a drink and ordered a drink themselves. Yeah, I could have called them out but I was in relax mode - There were servers wandering around but I don't know if they were only helping certain people or groups, they never asked me or anyone near me if we needed anything - I had to get up and go to the bar for a drink. - 4 drinks cost me $40. That two scotches and 2 bourbons and they weren't well but this is a casino - $8 + tip for a Makers is tolerable but at the upper end - and finally, unless I missed it, VooDoo Lounge isn't clearly marked from the outside so you have to go through the hotel or (more likely) through the casino to get to it. Went to see Travis this past Sunday night (9.29.13) and while the venue was very nice, had pretty good sound, and drinks were moderately priced.. that all took a backseat to the ridiculous policies that are in place. NO photography at all... not even with your cell phone! (sign was by entrance). Really? No quick snaps with your phone? A few of us got away with some shots but we saw several others get yelled at by security for taking pictures. The lead guitar player (Andy) stared down the security guard to stage left after he yelled at some fans. Show ends.... the monitors above the bar had a countdown for last call - counting down from 10 minutes. I decided to grab a couple of drinks for my wife and I while she went to the bathroom... guess what? Bathrooms CLOSED and LOCKED RIGHT after the show ended! We get our drinks and are hanging out by the merch booth for Dougie (bass player) to come out (as he had motioned to before leaving the stage) and as soon as the "10 minute countdown" ends for last call... another 5 minute countdown starts... but no one knows what for. At the end of the 5 minutes it was "GET OUT!" Wait? you sell us drinks for last call and then expect us to slam them in 5 minutes and leave? People were still buying merch and waiting to see the band and they essentially shoved everyone toward the exit (entrance). But guess what... YOU CAN'T TAKE YOUR DRINKS WITH YOU! WTF. So we had to slam our drinks by the door and then get out. Everyone was pissed but the venue/security could've cared less. They were more concerned about getting everyone out by 11pm. 11PM! Not 12, not 1am... 11! So a handful of fans hung out outside the entrance, hoping that someone from the band would come out and some lady from the venue came and told us "the band will not be coming out through that door (entrance to venue)... they don't do that, they can't." Ooooo k. So a few of us started walking throught the casino in hopes of finding the 'back door' to the venue or seeing the band IN the casino. Made a loop on the main floor and then saw Dougie talking to fans (who had stayed by the entrance) BY THE ENTRANCE! Apparently, they can and do come out that door. I'll never ever attend a show/spend another dime at Voodoo. Hospitality, security were incredibly unprofessional and rude. read more

The last time we went to VooDoo was several years ago where we booked a Bottle service reservation for a celebration. Almost everyone in attendance was a bartender or server so our server made a killing throughout the course of the night and everyone had a blast. But then - at the end of the night - we got nailed with an autogratuity! Now I don't have a problem with autograt but it should be at the servers discretion and overrideable by management. In this case we ended up tipping more than the total bill was between cash and the autograt! After getting totally ripped off - We have never stepped foot in the place since. read more

3/16/2012 : Rattle N Hum Concert: Harrah's Management shut the concert down early at midnight. There were 80 people enjoying the show, then suddenly it was last call and the show was over. Security guards yelled out that we had to leave and then approached the guests individually and told us we had to go -- it was very rude and unusual and I think they put their operational concerns way way ahead of consideration for their guests. No class: these patrons were all over 40 with money to spend -- we just left though. I've never been treated that way in Kansas City, ever. read more

Terrible. Waste. Of. Time. Went to the 2015 Karaoke event and IT WAS AWFUL. Apparently, if you attend the "Ultimate Karaoke" night, you will be forced to linger around the venue until the judges and host feel that 4 1/2 hours is an appropriate time limit to showcase 27 karaoke singers and announce who wins. The host took a break between each singer to discuss a bar, tell the worst jokes, and attempted to "pump up the crowd." Seriously, it's Sunday night....people have lives apart from listening to all the dry sense of humor and wasting their money on the overpriced beverages and food. Sorry, it's the offseason for Voodoo Lounge, but please don't milk your customers for all their worth because you lack business. If you have a life...don't ever attend this event. You will be so incredibly disappointed apart from the singing and be so upset you wasted your precious sleep time on this event. The singers could've taken 2 hours with minimal breaks and it would've made the time much more worth while! read more
