Wow this was so surprisingly fun. I had two friends visiting from out of town and they had a blast here! We went to Power and Light just to see what was going on and play things by ear. When we got there, there was a huge EDM/light show going on. In order to get in we would have had to have paid $11 and then once the concert was over, an additional cover for each bar. We decided to wait on the outskirts on a part of the balcony which was perfect for us. We were able to get into the actual district and made our way to Angels Rock Bar. The exterior presents much appeal and left us wondering what the interior might look like. The rock and roll vibe that it shoots off into Power and Light is strong and drew us right away. Also, the line wasn't terribly long, which rather than concerning us, only made us happier to go in! The cover was $5 which I don't find to be bad at all because typically things in such a hopping area are pretty steep. The drinks were priced how I would have expected. I never like paying a ton of money at bars but it's somewhat unavoidable. With that said, the drinks were generously poured and the bar wait wasn't too long. The stage was a blast and there seemed to be plenty of room for my friends and I to hop up! The only thing that would have been nicer would have been heavier air conditioning, but I can see where that might not have even been helpful due to the amount of people in the joint. It was open until 3 AM and we stayed until about 1:30 AM! We had a great time and it definitely made for some good memories! read more

Awful! Just awful. I would give zero stars if I could. We were ushered out way BEFORE P&L actually closes and a friend of ours was trying to close out their tab. Staff was absolutely rude and started talking crap to us. We are paying customers just trying to close out our tab. No reason for the disrespect, yet it happened. Not a fan. If I had to pick three words to describe Angel's, they would be lowest, common, and denominator. The music selection here isn't as bad as I would fear, although there's a lot of the obligatory mainstream 98.9 crap-rock, and it's way too loud to engage in anything resembling a conversation. Indeed, this is very much the kind of douchebag "show us your tits!" place that a dumbass like Johnny Dare would probably hang out while people who actually care about music are at places where there are actually ROCK SHOWS! Entering Angels Rock bar in the Power and Light District is a little overwhelming if you have never been there before. There are girls in hot pants in swings suspended from the ceiling and bras hanging from the pipes and light fixtures. I instantly felt like my rocker quotient was going to be questioned; I felt a little out of place amongst the blaring music and other crammed party-goers. The bartenders and waitresses/go-go girls (I don't know how else to describe them) sure know how to entertain, but there is only so much my brain and eyes can take in before I feel a little overwhelmed. I like to have a good time, but it seemed like the atmosphere was so overwhelming that it actually sobered me up. (I can't believe I've said the word overwhelming 3 times already!) While Angels is true to their name and play constant hard rock music, it wasn't really my scene. I recommend you at least peek in the door to see what's going on, but unless you like your music so loud your eardrums shake, I would tell you to go somewhere else. read more

Meh. I have experienced better. Why? The bar's lighting is nonexistent, while its interior layout forces you to rub elbows with everyone in the joint (and we're not talking about networking here.) What happened to this place? They got rid of the stage, which created a lot of room for dancing and fun. They literally just put a wall up and now it's a small single file walk way on that side of the bar. Place is even smaller than it was before (didn't think that was possible). No place to dance or even stand as a group. Last time I passed they didn't even have the other side of the bar (which is open to people who walk by) open and it looked incredibly dead inside. I'd say this place will be out of business any time now. Hopefully put a better bar in there and change the setup while you're at it. read more

Thankfully we didn't have to wait in line. But once inside was far from impressed! Everyone was just standing around- no room to interact with one another. Even talking to the person next to you seemed impossible. My voice was gone the next day and we only spent about an hour there at most. We went for my girlfriends b-day party. I bought a few drinks for the few of us. Once I wanted to tab out... almost impossible. Being a female I was able to get the attention of one of the bartenders... once I asked for my card, he literally threw his hands up and walked away and helped another person(s). It took me 15 mins (i timed) to get my card, because he was telling the other bartenders I wanted my card also. I had never been that disrepected- in that way before... and have never not tipped at a bar before-- this was my first. We (my group of friends) will never return. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. The line to get in is terrible plus the employees are so rude. A girl employee working the front on 4/7 was completely inappropriate. I will no longer purchase bottle service from this establishment after seeing how the treated my friends who purchased bottles. It is embarrassing. read more

Into rock music, then try Angels Rock Bar. I was hanging out and debating to come inside when I ran into Clara. She is a sales manage at Angels Rock Bar. She was very friendly and she did not force us to do anything. She told us to try the place out because it was free to get in. Clara also got us some free drinks, which was a plus. I was happy to come inside because I liked the atmosphere. It was dark and played killer rock music. The staff was friendly and the night did not turn out to be a disappointment. They took all the elements used in Vegas nightclubs about 8 years ago and dropped them here in KC. Fire wielding bartenders, platforms for drunk girl's to dance, stripper poles, projected movies on the wall and bartenders with the fishnet/bad girl outfits.....it's all here. Vegas perfected all this, but hey it is Vegas.....in KC? Well, I am sure there are people here in KC who are impressed. Sad but true. This place will probably rake it in. What I DID like is the music. All rock, all night. True to the name, they keep the atmosphere lively by pumping out the hits everyone knows (Poison) but also brand new rock. What can one say about the Rock Bar? The music is decent, and I am a metal/hard rock fan. That's about where it ends. So basically this is a place where they play rock music instead of the typical club hip hop. There were ladies there that were dancing, however, they were all up around the "VIP" section where males are not allowed to go unless they have bottle service. This was just so bizarre it is hard to explain. There is basically no dance floor so you are stuck watching some women dance by themselves (not all entirely bad, but not all entirely good either). There were female employees that were scantily clad while dancing on the bar. That wasn't too bad since they seemed to get the crowd into it. The dread-locked, foul smelling, grungy male employee that gets to dance on the bar (I am assuming for the ladies' benefit) was something I could have done without. While I understand what they were going for with the VIP/bottle service area, it is a waste of space. I honestly cannot imagine why anyone would pay for bottle service in a place like this. The music is so loud that one cannot hear any word of a conversation with some sitting next to them. The drinks are pricey, but that is expected. The bartenders pour a little on the light side as well. I will not say to avoid this place at all costs because it was an interesting experience. The music was good and the fire-breathing bartender was entertaining. However, one cannot expect to spend very much time inside as it get old real fast. Of course, it was better to be here than trying to get into one of the other clubs that were manned by hipster douche-bags with clipboards. read more

The new manager has done an excellent job making Angels Rock Bar a fun destination. From the moment we walked in, we were treated very well. The drinks were a little pricy, but not unreasonably so. The level of service is better than some clubs in Vegas, but being in KC it's significantly cheaper. I'll definitely go back. read more

Typically I love this place. I have been here multiple times and never had an issue. I always love it and think it's so fun. Tonight, the bouncer was a complete a$$hole. He bent all three of our IDs in half. I am assuming because he thought they were fake, which they were not. My friend from Illinois got was told to leave because the bouncer didn't believe his ID was real. As we were walking the way the bouncer was yelling derogatory things at us telling us he gets "more pu$$y" than us..... very unprofessional so we called the cops over and the cops (of course) agreed with the bouncer and told us to leave the premise. If the bouncer was trained, he would know how to spot fake IDs and would recognize that my fiend's ID from Illinois was real: I've never been so disappointed with the bouncers at Angels Rock Bar. read more

I used to live in South Beach, so I'm no stranger to night clubs. I've been to some of the hottest ones in the world and so I guess my expectations are a little high. When I moved to KC I was 22 and not really into clubs anymore. I was dragged here recently, however, for bachelerotte party, and the experience was HORRIBLE. First of all, the place is trashy. The music is horrible, the clientele is trashy and just everything about this place was gross. The worst part of the night, however, is when an employee sexually assaulted me. It was super, super busy and we were all a little bit drunk. I had a wristband, but as I was re-entering after going out to my car, I got lost in the shuffle when entering and I suddenly felt a hand grab me HARD and yank me in front of him. It was the bouncer. I ripped my hand away and told me to get his hands off of me. He asked to see my wristband and I just started to back up, I didn't want to be there anymore. He grabbed my right breast and threw me hard onto the ground. Suddenly everything went quiet and people were just watching me on the ground crying. He hurt my back, my breast (it was heavily bruised with deep hand prints), and I had to visit a doctor the next day. Looking back a couple months, I probably should have sued. Too late now, but I do want to warn others. Please don't ever visit this trashy place. read more

Ok, first of all, the whole "bottle service" concept is so 2007. As with this place, and most others, the "bottle service" booths are empty most nights which just takes up space. This Angel Rock bar could have been better if they got rid of the bar area in the middle and move it to the area where the "bottle service" booths are at. At that point, you can probably just keep one or two "bottle service" booths up on the stage area where the DJ is and maybe one booth on the side near the entrance where the smaller bar is located that serves drinks to the people outside the bar. Because that's about all the business you are going to do for "bottle service" booths anyhow. With the middle cleared out, you could then have more dance floor activity with cool neon light type stuff, kinda like "Have a Nice Day Café" in Wesport back-in-the-day. They need to renovate this bar, the large bar area in the middle and the booths on the side take up 80% of the space. Are you a single guy looking to meet women? Don't bother at this place or any other in KC. The only women you will see at clubs in KC are either bachelorette groups that have zero interest in meeting you or women that are already with guys. Single females do not go to bars/clubs in KC to meet men anymore today. They only either meet men through their social circles or social media networks. That is all. Yea, if you are a top 1% chick magnet, you might get a low-rent-trash "hookup" for an evening from a girl that frequents these places, but no wife material of course. All you can do is go to these places to people watch and drink. But why bother even doing that when you can buy a 6-pack to drink at home for same cost as ONE single drink at one of these venues in Power n' Light. Unfortunately, the main crowd at PnL today is the KCMO low-rent millennial trash crowd that wear $5 t-shirts, caps, and old jeans when going out on a Friday/Saturday night. Long gone are the days when men actually dressed casual and nice when going out in KC. If I were to open a club in Power and Light, I would make it a club where you had to be 25 or older. You would have to show proof of a college Bachelors degree at the door. No printed t-shirts or baseball caps allowed. And I would only play soft-rock from the 80s/90s with lots of fog and neon lights, and drinks would be better than Manifesto's. It would be the hottest venue of hot professional men & women in all of KC to go to filtering out all of the low-rent KCMO white-trash. read more

Look, this bar is only fun if you've got money to spend. When you reserve a table and buy your own bottle of liquor, there is no worrying about the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd because you've got waitresses checking on you often to make sure you've got all the condiments you could want to accompany your liquor. Plus you and your group have your own area to hang out, dance and have some fun. I will say though -- it's pretty stupid if you can spend $400+ but the DJ will not take a request for a song. *I do not go to bars to hear rock music, I like dance clubs* BUT, Angel's Rock Bar was fun. I liked the fact that girls were dancing on the bar all over the place. If you can appreciate rock music, because that is all that they play, they actually have reasonable taste for what is good, although it's all going to be modern rock so leave the mullet at home. If you find modern rock to be too abrasive for you or you are more into hip hop, this may not be the right club for you. For me, I'm glad that I could listen to that music and not have to put up with a bunch of smelly rednecks. I give it a three star nod because for what it is, they do a reasonable job. read more

Angels Rock Bar, If you are a grunge/metal/industrial rock lover, this is the place to be. Classic artists projected on the wall, girls dancing like they were in an old '80's movie, and servers that run around in fishnets and shorts that scarcely cover their butts, this place is epic. Of course it is a bit overdone, and the VIP section takes up half the bar. I love going to this place after hitting up a sports bar where they are pumping RnB loud enough to make my ears bleed. It makes me feel less dirty again. Service is average for a busy bar, and I seldom have problems getting drinks there. (I seldom have any problems getting drinks except for heroe's in Wichita). I only award Angels 3 stars however because I feel the bar tries to do too much, without doing any of it exceptionally well. The main draw here is the people factor, what the crazy people are doing and what might happen. Of course any liquor serving establishment has that, so this one doesn't stand out from the rest. read more

The thing that really pissed me off is how long it took to get a drink, especially since the bar tender is doing some trick bar tending where he throws and flips the bottles around. Very disappointed with how we were "bait and switched" on Saturday night. We went at opening for bottle service and stayed until closing. Then received a bill for more than quoted during the night. It wasn't one person misunderstanding, it was the whole group hearing what was quoted for extra bottles. We agreed because it sounded like a great deal. Obviously the $500+ we spent was not enough to warrant an explanation. I guess our future money will be better spent at the other bars in the Power & Light District. For a place with "rock bar" in their name, they played very little of that genre. Something along the lines of about 4 or 5 "rock" songs per hour during the 2 and a half hours I was there. The rest of the music they play is typical bad R&B/rap/dance/top 40 tripe that I could get at pretty much any other night club. What set Angels apart WAS the music they used to play - now they are as tired and boring as any other cookie cutter dive. So sad, this place used to be so unique, too. Add to the mix rude door attendant and bouncers, three of five bartenders who never smiled once, and a (now) generally lame atmosphere. Sadly, if you want a cool club, if you want a place to listen to rock, then Angels is NOT for you!! Angles is no more a "rock bar" than Pizza Hut is a sushi restaurant! read more

I appreciate the movies playing on the screen and that I could bribe the dj to play some punk though its mainly a rock bar there were a few people to eye but just the staff otherwise the crowd was as rocking as a group of people that had nothing better to do than stand around and wait for an over priced drink read more

I went to get drinks for myself and a few friends Thought I would start a tab no problem just give me your card and license she said just for security so i did .Hour and a half later got our second drink. after 3 hrs and 2 drinks we ended up buying a whole tray of shots in order to at least get something to drink. After leaving and going somewhere else where people aren't so full of themselves I realized she had not given back my license by then the bar was closing no way to retrieve it then that was 4 days ago I have not been able to talk to anyone as of yet to get my license back. When this bar first opened, I heard it was the "rock version of Hooters." I was thrilled to see it.... as to say, it was disappointing. I even went an additional time, because I always give second chances and it was horrible each go around. To begin. If you want to get into this place, do so before six in the evening. After that, expect a one to two hour wait in line - its extremly crowded. So crowded, the outside and inside is so packed, you can't even smoke/hold your beer without behind molested by the people around you. And the fact, people who work there let their 20+ friends in the bar before everyone else which increases the wait time. Or give the bouncer 40+ dollars for VIP service. Inside is extremly dark - you can barely make your way around, too crowded, too loud and the service is horrible. Good luck ordering anything. Good luck DOING anything - dancing, sitting down, just plain standing. The employees are extremly rude. They think just because they work at a rock bar, they are privileged. I remember on my first visit, I stood in line for over an hour because I was dumb and arrived around eight in the evening. Once I got to the front, where the rope cut off line was placed, the bouncer requested I stand in a certain spot by the door. I replied it was not a good idea, because even though the door was propped open on that side, their was a chance it could be pushed and slam back because their was still enough room behind it to do so. He yelled at me "shut up and listen to me if you want to get in." I snapped back he was being rude and at that moment, a bartender came rushing through the door, hit it and the door swung back and hit me - I got quite a nasty bruise that lasted weeks. Almost knocked me off my feet, it was not fun. The bartender screamed "get out of the way you stupid *place racial and demeaning words here." I started screaming and the bouncer who originally told me to stand there in the first place, proceeded to call me a "drunk *cuss words insert here*" I did not even have a beer at this point, I have not even gotten into the bar to get one yet! At this point, the bouncer refused to let me into the bar, and took it upon himself to make me wait another hour while letting people behind me in first. He stated because "I was an idiot." I eventually snuck in. Once inside, I was not impressed. It took me over forty minutes to even get a drink because the waitresses, who were a majority of females, refused to serve me, because I am a female and they were more preoccupied trying to flirt with the guys to get bigger tips. Many of them that I tried to approach, waved me off and told me to "shew." My second trip, was even worse. More rudeness - and you expect most bars to have unclean restrooms because of the rush of people, but even the bar was not clean. You can see the piles of dirt, mud and god knows what else. It was the same shape as when I left it last a week before - I don't think they even bother cleaning. And oh. Watch you're drinks - this place is a prime spot to get roofied. As to say, this is NOT a bar I would ever go to again. I am not a stickler either - I like to party and I am not you're geek next door. But I at least expect some respect from the employees and a better atmosphere. The only reason this place even gets any customers, is because of the Power and Light district just opening and their aren't any bars of this genre in the area. So people will often ignore the actions of employees in order to come to a "rad new bar." Don't join the sheep! Their are SO many other bars out there that are more worth you're time. read more

This place is just awful. I have never had such a bad experience in a club. After paying $15 to get into the near empty place I had an on time to start. There is a stage with lighting going across but nothing going on up there. The decor is pretty true to theme, and I liked it. Where my night went really bad was the end. They did last call, so my husband went to get us a last round. AS the drinks were being made they td everyone to leave. The guy still made the drink, charged us and took the tip. While he finishing the drinks I decided to go to the restroom before we left. I had to wait in line as one stall had no door and was clogged. As I was using the restroom some male employee comes into the bathroom saying to "pinch it off and get out". We were told we couldn't walk into the main area with the drinks. I mentioned how they have us no time to drink them. The response was that I'm lucky he's letting me finish them at all. I wasn't even drunk, and never got rude with the guy. I was just complaining about how they did a last call as they were closing and had men going into the ladies room. The guy then pushed into me and tried to grab the drink, which broke the plastic cup spilling the drink onto my husband and me. My husband of course got more involved now by pushing the guy who worked there off of me and telling him that he pushed not only his wife, but a soldier too. His reply was that he didnt care, and that he needs to get control of his wife. The thing is is that I was never even rude to the guy, I just pointed out facts he didnt want to hear.
