Grill Safran Chicken (gyro)
Feb W.

After working so hard in the garden my tummy is just super hungry. Good thing it's Saturday and a farmer's market is just around the corner and yeap, this taco truck had my eye. Food: Grill Safran Chicken Gyro - pita bread is soft yet has a good crunch on it. It was served warm with a plentiful filling (e.g. holy basil tomato, creamy dill tarragon cheese labneh, moroccan couscous, organic green, saffron brown butter sauce & a side of french fries. It was deliciously served with so much love imo. The chicken meat ain't dry and was seasoned perfectly. The side of french fries was warm and crispy too but a lil bit bland in my palate. Overall the food is good, the service is pleasant and Chef Amin is the friendliest too! He is also a hardworking chef! Price is so-so and the quality of food you'll have is pretty good so I guess it's reasonable. Mahalo for reading & happy juandering fellow yeeps!

Chef Amin's take on Kouign Amann. Not overly sweet but totally delicious

Chef Amin's Falafel is BACK! Stopped by his food truck (Voyage Chef Amin) cos his Persian Falafel TOTALLY fits in my Diet Study and it tastes really, really, really good! Bonus is that he partially fried a bunch for me for later. I can freeze this batch and put in air fryer before eating. Yay! So Chef Amin's falafel is different. He ferments the chickpeas for a week to make them more creamy and dense. He also makes the hummus and the thing sprinkled on top (I forget name) from scratch. Labneh? *Happy Dance* He let me sample his new creation, sweet pea fritters! Crispy on the outside with a hint of sweetness and delightful curry flavor on the inside. Yum! Note: He is working setting up a consistent weekly schedule.

Sample of his taco. So sweet of him to let me try.

I happened to park near the food truck when I stopped by at Fisher Hawaii to buy a few items. As I was returning back to the car, I noticed the new food truck but it didn't have their name on it! He had some customers, but still greeted me. I mentioned that I have already ordered my Korean food for lunch but wanted to take a picture of the menu. I was late in picking up my lunch, but decided to returned on the way back to try one of the desserts and drinks. There was a banana lumpia with melted chocolate, but i ordered the interesting braised saffron pineapple andagi with pineapple caramel sauce! I was told it had kaffir lime inside too. When he was done, It was piping hot with a generous portion of 7-8 pieces for $7. I tried it with and without the sauce. Both were good but I love it with the sauce. It was a nice treat. As I was waiting, he surprised me with a sample of his carnitas taco. Wow, it was amazing. Everything was delicious from the shell to the guava coleslaw! I would order that next time. The good thing is he has a limited menu but he will be changing it all the time. He will be having all kinds of variety of dishes from around the world. Right now on the menu, he has one salad with chicken, falafel, greens, soba, guava dressing and more. There was a Pork belly sandwich, carnitas taco with guava coleslaw, and it look like a falafel wrap. I also came for the special drink, Voy special: PussyWillow (Arat Beedmeshk) drink with chia seeds inside. He mentioned he's the only person who serves this. It was refreshing, but hard to explain the taste. Maybe like aloe Vera drink? I don't know, but tried it, it has some health benefits :) He also have other drinks and even bubble drink! He also work at Mugen restaurant in Waikiki making desserts/pastries. He said it's okay to mention it. He will be around this same location hopefully when he can find a spot on Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday from about 11am-7pm. Please follow him on Instagram for any update of his location and time. He has a bluish /gray painted food truck with no visible logo or name yet on his new food truck. He has been doing this only for the last 3 weeks. This Friday 05/27/22, he won't be able to bring his food truck out, since he has a private catering engagement. He's such a personable and sweet person. Please support him when you're in the area. His menu will change .. it can be menu items from Mexico, Egypt, Japan and etc. I almost forgot to mentioned his food truck is run by solar! No generator needed and he said he it's so quiet vs a generator and he can turn it off. Awesome! Thanks for reading my review! =)

A night in Kaka'ako is always a fun place to explore, and just be entertained!…read more The Honolulu Night Market at Our Kaka'ako is indeed a fabulous adventure into the biggest street/block party filled to the brim with all things local...food, retail and culture. I've been to so many and each and every one is very unique where you can find either fashion runway stage, live street art, or even a dance night in the barn. I just love the vibe SALT and surrounding Our Kaka'ako brings with the vibrant art we're so blessed to have and this particular night (November 19th) there was actually much more shopping just perfect for the holidays and the party went further down to Ya-ya's. Tonight I was fortunate to have gone after work so I kept it short but found some awesome treats. Some straw toppers to add to my holiday gift giving and some cheesecake cups (OG, Strawberry and Cookie Butter) of course I got one of each to share...ate the Strawberry which of course omg was yummy!! Not too sweet as the Strawberries was just perfect as I tried to get an even scoop of it all in every bite. Walked further down and honestly wasn't in the mood to wait too long for anything found something that would just exactly work for me. Ya-Ya's Chophouse & Seafood and tonight they had two items - Steak Kebabs - Fat Fried Rice with TAB (aka Thick Ass Bacon lol!) I seriously wanted the fried rice but thought that the Steak Kebabs was more sensible for me personally and it came with two kebabs each fully loaded with steak, mushrooms, peppers and onions with a huge scoop of rice! So many options I really was considering including Henna from Henna Happens, Birria Tacos from Dolce Vita, Corn from Corn Onoz Hawaii but though there's always a next time yes!?! I remember pre-pandemic Yelp had a booth here and hoping as things return to normalcy that we'll see it back again one day (hint hint!) Absolutely love this Honolulu Night Market as it offers so many cultural coolness that you can't find anywhere else! Thank you!

There was some live music, but it seemed more like a quick stop for tourists rather than a real night market. I didn't try any food because the atmosphere wasn't appealing, so I left quickly.

There are the tiniest baby roaches in the crevices of the picnic table due to the buildup of gunk and I saw them crawling around the table and larger ones on the ground which made me gag. Just be cautious if you choose to sit there.* Food 5/5 This is actually the best spicy garlic shrimp I've ever had. We had the "highly rated" North Shore shrimp three years ago and the way they serve it to you isn't very appetizing. However, this shack, chef's kiss. The presentation and the flavor was all there. My partner's platter was half short rib and half garlic shrimp. (Fries/drinks from a different location.) Service 5/5 The staff are friendly and very hardworking. They were very quick to get me a plastic bag when I asked. 100000% coming back.

I'm hoping tonight was just an off night. I've had this garlic shrimp now 3x. I was so excited to…read morehave garlic shrimp again today but this was not the same spicy garlic shrimp I had the past couple times. This was more chipotle ish with maybe some sort of minced onion than the spicy garlic shrimp I had the past two times. I didn't eat here when it was Angry shrimp because they mixed onion and mushrooms with shrimp or something and I was looking for Garlic shrimp. I have the picture from last weeks garlic shrimp. Last week it tasted like it had fish sauce in it with spices and garlic, etc...tonight it literally tastes like bbq seasoning mixed with chipotle seasoning and chili onion. I'm not writing this review to bash this shrimp truck because I think they are very nice but more so as constructive criticism...to hopefully keep their recipe consistent. People want the flavor of Garlic shrimp without having to go to the north shore. These other seasonings just didn't cut it for me:(

We were hungry in the morning, so we arrived just after they opened. There was lots of parking. We ordered and while the Poi rolls were cooking we had a chance to chat with the owner Dennis. He described the extra effort that they put into every ingredient. Later after we finished eating, Dennis would bring bowls of freshly cut cantaloupe from a close-by market. It was perfectly ripe and one of the best that I have tasted. That is an example of the Aloha you will feel while visiting. I have been to Hawaii a dozen times and was never a fan of Poi because I never tasted a dish that was prepared properly. We went to a picnic the previous day that had a donut like pasty made with Poi and fresh Poi made at a local restaurant. They were both delicious and this totally changed my opinion. Based on that positive experience I wanted to try the signature Poi dog. We opted for the spicy version. It was so tasty with the matching condiments. If you are a foodie that wants to try something unique, be sure to give it a try. Dennis has a sister location in Waikiki that is managed by his partner Hong Banh-Mi sandwiches are one of my weekly lunch options when at home, so we were excited to plan a visit to Aloha Hot Dog and Banh-Mi for dinner!

The perfect amount of sweet and savory all in one bite. The owner is so friendly and welcoming, the three times that we have gone over the years, he would go above and beyond. He is right that it wasn't the same business as years ago, but if you're reading this I hope it brings your spark back, even just a little.
