My friend and I visited this vendor when we went to the food truck park in Waikiki. I was craving something cheesy and was drawn to their truck as they seemed to specialize in mac n cheese. I was honestly so excited but ended up being awfully disappointed. We ordered the Hamburger Mac Shack Bowl, the hamburger patty was small, sad, dry, and lacked in flavor. It tasted like the school lunch hamburger patties at best. The mac was BAD, like it was so grainy and I thought maybe they messed up the roux (if they used any), but my partner (chef) said that its due to it being overcooked. Which makes a lot of sense because the macaroni itself was also a bit overcooked. There were no like "cheesy-ness" to the mac at all, other than the sad, grainy texture sauce, which also had a strong "flour-y" taste. I do NOT recommend. The chicken Mac wrap was absolutely amazing! Looking at it was mouthwatering and it tasted even better once I took the first bite. It had a lot of great flavor with the chicken and mac & cheese, and I would definitely recommend adding barbecue sauce. It had a good sweet flavor to it that helped. It is been one of my favorite meals on this trip. Great ambience around with the other food trucks. It is very heavy, so I shared it with my boyfriend and it was the perfect amount. Wow, for a roach coach they do an amazing mac n cheese! We ordered: Small Shrimp Bowl - wow if this is small the large could feed a family! Unctuous creamy cheesy sauce coated the mac and it was so delish, along with the garlicky prawns on top, tail on for easy holding and eating. There was no cheese flavor, no salt, no creaminess, no body to the curdled sauce at all. It was flavorless and bland. The burger we got was an over-cooked, under-seasoned, dry, thin patty similar to what you'd get on a McDonald's cheeseburger. With a wilted piece of lettuce, and a sad tomato slice on a Walmart bun. Visited Thursday 8/1 with my family, there were 5 of us including 2 who are vegetarian. We got items from other trucks and were pleased. We also ordered a plain large Mac n cheese from Aloha Mac Shack. It took about 20 minutes to get our order. Once we opened it we were surprised, it was a small amount of dried out macaroni with a small amount of "cheese" sauce on it. I took it back to the truck to ask if this was their $20.00 plate, they confirmed it was. They were nice enough to take it back to "fix" it. After 5 minutes it was returned the same way just more. We also ordered the double cheese burger and they ended up just giving us a regular burger that we didn't order. This place was kinda expensive. For chicken sandwich and burger it was $38! Service was not great as he didn't listen to what you wanted, hence he gave us whatever he wanted instead of what we ordered. I'd skip this food truck and go to another one. Lucky to find this golden yummy at the What the truck Kaka'ako Makai held every second Fridays at the former Fisherman's Wharf location which is a stunning place. Aloha Mac Shack has transformed our classic Mac and Cheese into a bougie treat you'd been dreaming of into reality with menu items from their grab and go (Mac Shack Burger, Mac Shack Chicken Wrap and Mac Shack Dog) to plate lunch (Steak, Chicken or Kalua Pig) which of course include Mac and cheese as a side. Strolling around taking in the super chill vibe while enjoying the musical entertainment of the night I decided on a much more portable item like the Mac Shack Dog simply put hot dog all surrounded by golden Mac and cheese and fried to the most incredible crispiest masterpiece! Mind you it is all made to order of course so it does take some time which was about a ten minute wait but is it worth it...absolutely!! Review Update!! I got to try Aloha Mac Shack again at the What The Truck event at Waikele. And I saw they got new items on the menu! You can now get mac and cheese on its own, fried mac and cheese bites and the mac shack dog. I'm glad we got to try some!! All so delicious. Mac and cheese bites -- it's deep fried mac and cheese. It's self explanatory but taste so amazing! 10/10!! And it also came with a side of cheese sauce!!! AMAZING!! Mac Shack dog -- it's similar to the korean hotdogs. But it's got mac and cheese and hotdog. I don't eat pork, so I had to ask them what kind of hotdog they use and they use kosher ones, so it's BEEF!! YAY! I'm really glad I got to try more of their items! Definitely will get some food from them again! Not only you get to have delicious food but also excellent customer service!! If there was an option to give 0 stars , I would give this truck that. Worst customer service. The woman taking the order treats people like she is doing us a favor. Ive been in the service industry and i know how hard it can get to have your mood good with being busy. But it was not the case here. There were 2 orders, 1 wrap before me and burger for me. It took 25 mins for the food to come. I waited right outside the truck, the 2 people were just chatting and not cooking. I went to check on my food since the buzzer did not ring for 20 mins and the woman was like you will get it when its ready. I am aware of that but I went to check if they forgot about it. Ive never had burger take that long esp when there are no orders. And no apology or sorry for the wait whatsover. I am appalled at the level of 0 courtesy and delay for laziness. Next the burger was not up to the mark - felt like mcdonalds burger. The fries were hollow and cheewy - even my child did not want to eat the fries. This for almost 30 bucks. Take your money elsewhere. We were at the spot with food trucks, where other places were serving the food faster and in better portion and quality. read more
