I had heard great things about Val- so when I was looking for a hairdresser for my wedding, I booked an appointment to get my hair done to try him out. My appointment was on a Thursday and it was still pretty busy in there. I told the receptionist that I had an appointment with Val, but she put me with one if the assistants to blow my hair. After a whole, I realized that the blow out was taking forever and although he was done, he kept playing around with my hair- i was in the chair for an hour and half. I went to the receptionist and told her that I wanted to see Val and she was nasty to me and told me he wasn't available. It wasn't until I made a scene that Val showed himself and didn't even bother to apologize to me and sat me in his chair for literally 10 mins, gave me an updo without asking what I wanted and kicked me out. And he had the nerve to charge me$150!!!! I made it clear to him that he lost me as a client and have not stepped foot in that place since. been there 2x-as far as haircuts, both were pretty decent-first time was a better experience than the second (same hair stylist). My rating is based on the customer service experience-honestly, especially considering the price, I would expect more from a salon like this-terrible organization, made me feel uncomfortable. I stood waiting around for a station to open to get my hair washed (after being told I should go back), and then sat with soaking wet hair for 15 minutes waiting for my hair stylist to finish with her previous appt. First of all, they only take cash! What? Secondly,with this hair salon you never know what your paying until the end of your service. There's no menu and the receptionist never give you a price for a service. When job is done, they literally look you up and down and price their service. I called in and was put on hold for 5 minutes so I hung up called back right after and then the phone was finally answered. I was told that only Steven would be available for a haircut all day so I agreed. Steven was rude and spent less than 10 minutes cutting my hair. He also cut off way more than I asked him to. Then I didn't want to blow it out after but he said that he told me, "No. You HAVE TO so I can see if it's GOOD" So then a different lady blew my hair out and she was nice. After, Steven didn't even look at me to see if it was "good" which was the reason he insisted I get it blown out in the first place and I had to pay an extra $20 on a blowout that I didn't want. One person washed my hair, another cut it, and another blow dried it which meant I had to tip multiple people Last time my sister got her hair cut by a different person at VS1 so next time I will make sure to go to him instead. read more

I've had long hair my entire adult life. I would only get trims because I wanted to keep my hair long. Each salon I would visit would insist on cutting many inches off and most, if not all, would despite my request not to. I never had a "home" until I met Sam. Sam is like a magician! Sam really listened to me and wouldn't drastically cut my hair, instead he would cut the dead ends off and my hair would still remain long and healthy. He is really a perfectionist and my cut is always on point and always the way I request it. Now that I'm a mom and decided I needed shorter, more manageable hair I have finally made the big chop and have a "lob" and I wouldn't have trusted anyone but Sam to do it! VS1 is amazing! I was visiting New York for a wedding, and I needed to find a hair salon QUICK! My relative recommended VS1, and I'm so happy she did. Mikey did my hair and I liked his blow dry better than the ones I get in LA! He paid so much attention to how he did my hair, making sure he went over it until it was perfect. I have long, thick hair, so it takes a good amount of work to do my hair. Then Steven even took me after just for fun, and applied some make up touches just to be even nicer! They are the absolute best!!!!! I would give them 10 stars if yelp allowed. Steven, Sam, Eddie, & Charles! In fact, everyone who works here is just amazing. Ive been coming to Steven for color since the day they first opened and have been coming ever since even though I live 25 miles away. He is the best colorist in the tri state area, hands down!! In my opinion (and many others) they are the best salon on Long Island, if not all of NYC.... everything from their highlights, blowouts, and haircuts, facials, even their washes are a mini 10 minute head massage. Everyone who works here is a genius in their own craft and incredibly kind, funny, and patient with all of their customers. Now with the addition of Charles who is a makeup ARTIST (truly an artist) I can't say better things about VS1.
