I took my car for a 40 000 mile service. They charged me $1772. I put their detailed invoice into AI and I asked it to do a deep research into all that was done and assess what I paid vs what I should have paid. It turns out I was overcharged by between $600 and $800 dollars. I'm sorry that is DAYLIGHT FUCKING ROBBERY and VW Manhattan should be embarrassed. And nobody should take their cars there. This would have been a 5 star review, but for getting majorly screwed by the salesperson. We bought an ID.BUZZ, and even agreed to the dealer's markup over sticker price because we could get up to $9500 back in federal and state tax credits. We likely wouldn't have bought it without those rebates. This was something I had the salesperson confirm because the ID.BUZZ was so new that it wasn't listed anywhere yet (insurance, DMV, etc.). It was also not listed - nor were any 2025 vehicles - on the federal tax credit list of qualifying vehicles, so I asked the salesperson to confirm - you know, I asked the people who would know this info, the dealer. He also asked if we were paying cash or leasing or financing...I told him we planned to pay cash, unless leasing or financing was a requirement for the rebates or other discounts. He said he'd check it out and let us know. He came back with specific info...that we could only get $500 from the state but that would be taken directly off the sale price, and that I'd get the $7500 when I filed my taxes, or up front if we leased. As I'm doing my taxes I find that there is a document that needed to be filed by the dealer at the time of sale. I asked for that and for some reason, nobody at the dealer knew anything about it. Then he changed his story saying he never confirmed anything - he did, I have it in writing. Also, that the ID.BUZZ doesn't qualify for the federal rebate because it wasn't assembled in the U.S. I have since done more research and find that this is true...now that the info is available (again, it wasn't late last year when we were looking into the purchase). So...why would he lie/mislead us? Only things I can think of are negligence or intentional misinformation to make a sale. Either way, it's unacceptable. He got his commission, we got screwed out of $7500 and need to figure out what to do. Absolutely FURIOUS!! AVOID THIS SHADY DEALER! read more

Things were going okay until I started asking questions. Test drive went fine. Then, after I got a lease quote from the sales manager, Jeff, he gave me a hard time after I asked basic questions like "What is the money factor?" and "What is the residual?" These are questions any car buyer should be asking. Why were they so snarky about it? I guess they prefer to deal with dummies. Next, they quoted me thousands of dollars less for my trade than what the car is worth, according to all sources, including Carmax, Carfax, KBB and Edmunds. The salesperson, Brandon, was very polite. My issue is with Jeff, who turned dismissive and rude over the phone and showed no interest in actually making a deal. He claimed that because my Carfax reported minor scratches four years ago, that they considered that an accident, which is was not. Complete and total garbage. They are clearly trained to lowball on trades, and then when you protest, gaslight you and make it sound like you're the crazy one. To be clear, they offered me $17,000 on a beautiful, 2019 BMW 330i xdrive, with low mileage and no issues. Search online and that same car is being sold for $28-30,000. And that's exactly how much they would have sold it for had I agreed to their insulting offer. They're out of their minds. A scratch from four years ago doesn't affect the price. The entire experience left me feeling angry. It's almost as if, because I refused to take their word as gospel, that they didn't want to deal with me. Rip Off I have two key fobs. One key fob was not working turning the alarm on or off. VW of Manhattan told me they would charge 269 if they had to reprogram the non working key or to reprogram a new key. Plus another 269 to reprogram the other working key. If one key needs to be reprogramed then the other key has to be reprogramed. Double dipping. I went to Tasca VW in Elmsford. They reprogramed the non working key and reprogramed the other working key Both for 199. I have been going for yearly service at VW Manhattan for four years. The 30k service was 800. The 40k service was 1500. I am not a mechanic and perhaps should have shopped around more. But that was a lot to pay for service on a 20k dollar car. read more

I ended up taking VW Manhattan to small claims court, where I recouped most of the diagnostic fee. Avoid this dealer like the plague.

They took my car for warranty service. They said it would take two weeks and a month later they haven't even started the work.

I brought my VW Tiguan to their service center because my roof was leaking when it rained. I thought I had more time on my warranty but I arrived they informed me that I had a few more months on my warranty but it was over the mileage (understandable). They said my best bet was to file a claim with my insurance and I should just have to pay for the diagnostic cost (and my deductible). I started the claim process with insurance while I left the car for the diagnostic test. They ran the car under a shower to find the source of the leak but called to tell me they couldn't find a leak, no water was coming through. I then sent over pictures from the last time in rained showing a huge water stain on my roof and water dripping on the dash. From these pictures they decided that the drains around my sun roof needed to be cleared, and "since insurance was paying for it" the drains should also be replaced. Again, this was after finding nothing from their own ($280) diagnostic test. They then sent a quote of over $4,000 for the repair and replacement of the drains, $3,000 of which was just labor cost. They quoted 12 hours of labor. While I was waiting for a response to the quote from my insurance company something wasn't sitting right with me. The exorbitant cost aside, the representatives use of the phrase "since insurance is paying for it" to justify the replacement of the drains made me think I was being quoted for more work than I needed. Even if my insurance did cover the bulk of the charges, I was still looking at a $500 deductible on top of that diagnostic fee. After a few calls I ended up bringing the car to a mechanic I trusted to get a second opinion. He spent an hour with the car and told me there was nothing wrong with my drains at all, that there were actually cracks in the plastic lining of my sunroof and that was how the water was leaking in. It cost me $250 and two hours of labor (he put a polymer in to seal the cracks). VW was going to charge me $4000 for a problem I didn't have. I know that I can expect higher labor costs and an up sell on services when I bring my car to a dealership service center over a local mechanic, but this was above and beyond. They would have charged me that crazy price and I still would have had a leaky roof! read more

INTEGRITY? CUSTOMER SERVICE? They have no clue. In fact, they actively try not to follow up or deal with issues. Sell you a car? I'm sure they're great ... because there's something in it for them. I called the dealer first thing Monday AM after the weekend and explained the situation. I was told a message wound be left for two different managers. It wasn't until Thursday and MY numerous calls later that I was given message of a manger THROUGH another customer service person. Apparently the Director of Customer Service Iliana still has A LOT to learn about servicing customers. All week I didn't receive one email or follow up from a manager themselves - that's how much they care about customers. I've been servicing my Tiguan at Open Road since 2015 when I moved to NYC. Earlier this year I had my 30k mile service on my 2012 Tiguan. At that time, my tires get rotated. This past weekend, I get a flat tire. It happens. We pulled over on the side of the highway to change the tire and the lug nuts are SOO TIGHT they refused to loosen much less come off. So then we had no choice but to call roadside assistance. A 350 pound man came out and EVEN HE COULDN'T get them off. So, then we had to call for a flat bed to give us a tow. Four hours later we arrived at the Mavis Tire shop. At that point we just decided to replace all four tires and had them order us a set we wanted. When I called VW Open Road on Monday at 7:30am, it was then I was told that the technician who did that 30K service earlier that year had actually already been fired. You think? Who makes it sooo difficult for anyone BUT the VW dealer to change your tires? It's criminal. A few days later (Thursday) the new tires arrived and Mavis's technician started to change all the tires on my vehicle. He tries EVERYTHING, including using an extractor and NOTHING WORKED. Three lock nuts were solid tight and would not loosen, much less come off. Since then, Open Road has done EVERYTHING to absolve themselves of claiming any responsibility or liability. On Friday afternoon, their Head of Sales Anthony (by the way was the ONLY person in management who ever got back to me), had the nerve to insinuate that maybe Mavis didn't know how to remove the lock nuts and that their own technicians are clearly skilled at removing them, so if I PAY FOR THE TOW then they will take care of it. That was the message he was "passing on" from Tim, the General Manager and Iliana (who I never heard from all week), their Director of Client Service). REALLY? It was because of their technician's incompetence that we were prevented from changing our own tire on the side of the road, had to pay for Roadside Assistance and missed a concert we had tickets for that night. As soon as I made it clear to Anthony, that Mavis was able to get one of the lock nuts off, but the other three were impossibly tight, then clearly it's not a "skill" issue on Mavis's part. They remove and put on tires for a living .. give me a break! As soon as he realized that his 'excuse' didn't hold water and their convenient reason for not claiming any responsibility or fault didn't work, I haven't heard back from them since that Friday afternoon conversation. I was told that I would hear from his General Manager Tim first thing the next morning. Yes, clearly that didn't happen. Again, integrity ... nope. Tim never called to follow up. Summary: - Their technician creates the issue - They don't call you back and face the problem head on with credibility and class - They find ANY excuse to blame others for what happened - They make promises for return calls by Management and even that never happens If you want to buy your car there, do what you need to do, but think twice about servicing it there. I bought a used Passat from them and had a wonderful experience. As soon as I got there, I was shown to the waiting area and given a bottle of water, and within 10 minutes I was on a test drive. It didn't matter that I was buying literally the cheapest car on the lot. They treated me with respect the whole time and really did their best to make the experience a positive one. A special shout out to Julissa. She was the absolute best. She never tried any shady sales tactics or tried to pressure me. She was just a solid person trying to get me the car that worked for me. If you go there, do yourself a favor and ask for her by name. I did A LOT of research on dealerships in the area. SO many of them try to trick you into coming to their lot before jacking up the price, or are dishonest about the shortcomings a car actually has. Don't waste your time like I did. The bottom line is the owner Michael Morais and GM Anthony Riccardi gravely lack integrity. I purchased a brand new vehicle in July 2019 and at the time of purchase, was promised two things by the then GM (Darius): 1. I could bring my car into the dealership once every two months for a free car cleaning, 2. The purchase of the car came with a 10K mile or 1-year service for free. I did not have a special relationship with Darius (former GM) and this is what was promised to motivate me to make the sale. So I took the plunge and thought, wow they are going the extra mile. I love that. Within 5 months post-purchase, Darius left for another dealer and along with him, went his promise despite Darius saying that his former team would take care of us. He failed to mark our files for these promises and when I presented all the communication exchanges with him to current management (Anthony) and the owner (Michael), they refused to honor it because I did not explicitly have the promises in writing. Admittedly, that's my fault and I will take a lesson from that, but the communication exchange clearly insinuates and supports what I'm saying was promised at the time of sale. Still, they chose not to honor them and offered instead a discount off of future services. It disturbs me to be promised things upon purchase and not have them honored. It leaves me feeling conned. It's just a disgusting way to operate a business. Good luck keeping clients coming back. I would avoid at all costs. Many other dealers operate with much higher integrity. I'd have given a zero star if I could. Let's start with the conclusion first, the service department is the worst among all 6 VW dealerships that I used in four states that I visited,and the service stuff are not only rude but also deceitful, they will look at the computer screen and lying right in front of your eye. I visited the dealership for a key replacement + programming service, the service consultant Luis Vera quoted me $165 for just programming and $250+ for the key, he told me this is the universal price and I can take or leave it, then I called three other dealers in this area, and none of them quoted me over $200 FOR THE ENTIRE JOB. When I confronted with Luis, he said that the price for same item can be very different in different locations. I get that everything is expensive in manhattan, but charging X3 price for the exact service is another story, it is pure dishonest and greedy. Luis Vera got very agitated after I confronted him and handled my case in an very unprofessional and rude manner, he left me in the waiting room for 2 hours and indicated that he would charge me for jumping my vehicle( cars parked for a long time need to be jumped before programming). Why don't you charge me for parking my car here? !The worst part was that he said he'd still charge me the full amount even if his technicians weren't able to fix the problem and charge me more for diagnosis!!! Seriously!? You wanted me to pay for your incompetence? !! No way!! In the end, I would rather pay $200 to tow my car to another dealer I trust and they get the job done right at only one third of the price that VW of manhattan quoted me. As a long time VW driver I've come to trust VW and their dealerships. That all changed the other day. I called Open Road VW Manhattan for my yearly oil change. Arlene Caswell recommended for me to have the 40,000 maintenance done. Even though my car only had 22,000 miles on it, it was four years old. I said okay. I was shocked to discover afterwards that I had been charged at least double what any other dealership in the greater NYC area quoted. How is that even allowed?! I called Arlene to ask. She said it was the cost of labor on Manhattan. I was speechless. I could've driven twenty minutes to save hundreds of dollars?! Ridiculous. To add to the confusion I was sent a link by Arlene to the maintenance quote (attached) that seemed to coincide with the other quotes I had gathered. Terrible experience. Wanted to see a used BMW X3 they had in stock. First, I call the dealer to ask about the car and no one picks up, even though when I go in the showroom there are two guys literally sitting at the front desk all the time. Then, I decide to stop by anyway, as I was already close by. When I go in, instead of an actual, properly dressed sales rep assisting me, the manager gave me someone that was clearly not a sales person, more like a mechanic, dressed with an outdoor jacket half zipped up and a t-shirt inside. Not professional at all. He offered to take me to the car, which was surrounded bumper to bumper, side to side, by other cars on the third floor inside their showroom. I could barely even get in to see the inside and could hardly even see the car outside properly either and he made no offer to move it out for me so I could see it better. Neither was there any offer for a test drive. After I struggled to get in, fearing I would dent the car next to it, I had to ask him to move the car out. I noticed the rear bumper had a broken reflector, a notable dent that resulted in the rear fending coming out, and deep scratches. After we went back to talk numbers, I raised these issues, and the manager offered to take a look and said "okay, either I fix it or I will take $350 off " which I felt was a joke, seeing as cars with damages go for thousands less at other dealers. I told them I had already gotten another offer from Ray Catena for an X3 that was better than theirs AND the car they showed me was in perfect condition, plus it was a certified pre owned car, and after some deliberation, the manager asked me how much I would be willing to pay considering their car was in less good condition. I started by offering 3000 less, which I felt was fair considering the condition of their car and expected them to at least negotiate towards a medium. But instead, manager just shook my hand, smiled and said "thank you for your time, go buy the car from them" and basically blew me off and even followed me as I walked out of the showroom and kept saying stuff like "thanks for stopping by!" and "do you want me to call Ray Catena for you? So they know you are coming back!" all in a very sarcastic and backhanded tone. The funny thing is the "sales rep" who showed me the car even had the audacity to call me back a few minutes later to try to negotiate with me more to get me to buy the car with a discount. I cannot imagine how the hell he thinks I would want to go back and buy anything from them at all after I was rudely booted out of the showroom a few minutes earlier. Unbelievable! read more

After finding what my wife and I thought just might be our dream car, I contacted this dealership to set up a test drive. After some initial e-mail confusion back and forth with setting up the date and time, I spoke with the representative and confirmed our appointment. This was on a Wednesday, with the appointment set for Saturday. I was told that I would receive a confirmation on Friday, and if there was any change in inventory (i.e. the car sold during that time) they would call me and let me know. Totally fair. I don't expect a dealership to hold a car for me because I can't make it during the week, and there's a chance I might not even buy it. I get the confirmation call and e-mail, and spend Saturday morning getting my current car spruced up in case we decide to trade it in and purchase the new car. We show up right on time aaaaand, "you have an appointment? huh." The rep I was working with earlier is naturally not there, and the folks working had no idea we were coming in. But it's cool, there's someone else that can help us... OH! Except that no he can't. Why? Because the car we wanted has already been sold. Yup. Not a single phone call to let us know before getting a babysitter and then trekking into the city, wasting precious weekend time for a whole lot of nothing. I am exceedingly displeased with the service we received here. The guy who ended up helping us tried his best to do what he could, but really there was nothing that could be done. At the very least, the manager could've come out and apologized for the complete failure in customer service. When you've got people coming in ready to drop several thousand dollars, I expect top notch treatment. I responded to the original rep's email telling how upset we were and how ridiculous it was, so we'll see if that person even apologizes. read more

Had my car repaired here after being rear ended. Thank God I wasn't liable for the damages because the service bill came out to nearly 7K. My insurance picked up the tab. It was arranged by Progressive so that all I had to pay was the deductible when I picked up the car. My issue is that when I went to retrieve my car and pay the deductible, I was asked by the cashier if I wanted the entire 7K bill charged to one card. I informed her I was only responsible for the deductible, but for some reason my paper work didn't' say anything about my insurance. I returned to the service area and spoke to the man that had walked me over to the cashier and handed her my paper work. I don't know if this was simple lack of organization or something else. It seemed suspect to me that they'd "forgotten" about car insurance and the almost 7K check that was coming their way on my behalf. That may have been a misunderstanding, the situation may even be open to interpretation, but when I got into my car to leave, after over a week of having it in the service center, my gas tank read 0. I'm not in the habit of riding around with no gas in my tank. It made me feel foolish for not having gone over everything with a fine tooth comb and leaving any room for doubt. I hadn't written down how much gas I had in the tank when I dropped it off, I didn't think I would have to. When I pointed it out the gentleman and asked if there was something we could do about it, he said they didn't have gas on the premises but there was a gas station nearby. He gave me a look as if to say, I hope you make it there. read more

He had his sales rep Patrick negotiate pricing with me in the middle of the streets of Manhattan but when I discussed pricing in the store, the manager completely disregarded me. Eventually came to an agreement, came in a month later when the car I wanted finally arrived in store and wanted to leave a deposit. The manager wanted to rip me off by switching up on the agreement and increasing the monthly rate. I had everything in writing on email and they did not care. This place is the EPITOME of dishonesty, unprofessional and scammers. They have ruined the experience of me purchasing my first car and doing any sort of business with them. I have a 2014 VW Beetle and I love my car. EXCEPT that I get a blown out tire if I hit a bad pothole!!! 2X past year and half. Brought it in this morning (blow out Saturday night) and explained that I've now heard that there is an issue with these types of tires - frequent blowouts!!! It's the tire and the rims (too much rim, not enough rubber = frequent blowouts). He showed no concern just wanted to get me checked in. I asked about the possibility of getting different tires/rims on the car since these are UNSAFE. He said it would cost around $2,300. I said "but these tires are unsafe to drive" and he nonchalantly replied "Yeah the GTI owners have the same problem". So caution - if buying VW make sure you buy a model with safe tires. Anyone interested in purchasing my car? (And I caution you about the tires, which is more than VW did for me when I purchased) Low mileage (9800), single owner, grey ragtop - very cool! Round 2: really liked the car, but didn't want the hassle of traveling outside of manhattan......big mistake. Another sales person said it's the LAW to out down a deposit. Declined. Said I'd be 90% committed to the deal with 500 off since the car had some bumper scratches; manager wrote he's 90% sure he would give me the deal. What a smug piece of shit. Looked at dealer fees and they wanted 300 for some zurich security fee? I asked what it was and she said its a Sticker they place so the car can be tracked. I said please do not put it on the car, but she said its dealership policy. Not cool. Won't finance through VW, but since I declined the deposit, girl wants me to give her my credit card to show "ammunition" to the general manager that I'm committed to buying the car. Don't worry, my signature on a legal document wouldn't be enough right? - I walked out. I personally beg you to not bother. Looks nice, but it's run by a bunch of day clubbing idiots. Received a letter from VW that there is a rear axle coil springs safety recall. Went online and located VW Manhattan. Scheduled a mid-week morning 7:30 am appointment online. Dropped the car off in the morning and walked to work in midtown. Received a phone call in the late afternoon that the car is ready. Picked the car up at 6 pm. the recall was under warranty with zero balance due. The entire process was seamless. The parts and service folks are friendly. I met Mr. David Rivas, Service Consultant. The man was straightforward and professional. No idea what the other poor review was about. When dealing with any service department, it is important to know your purpose there. Don't pay or get things you don't need. The weekends must be busy here. No problem whatsoever at VW Manhattan service department midweek. read more

Beautiful showroom and more importantly, consummate professionals here. These guys didn't waste our time playing hardball and negotiating silly deals to swindle us. Tim, the general sales manager, is personable and fair with pricing. We had visited a few dealers prior to visiting them and had one offer in particular we were considering. Tim saw the deal we were given and was able to match it. He was very patient and looked up and down at the numbers with us multiple times. We also worked with Jeff, a sales associate - Jeff is professional, thorough, and good at communicating both in person and via email. Eddie the finance manager was highly organized which made signing the documents very easy.... he also never rushed us as we were going through the lease documents which I appreciate. This could not have been a simpler process. We closed the deal and picked up the car five days later (they had to get it from another dealer). They went above and beyond in delivering the car, even buffing out a couple of very minor scratches that were hardly noticeable. Very respectful, seasoned associates working here - this is not your typical sleazy dealership filled with young guys talking your head off and giving you ridiculous prices. Don't write this dealership off as being overpriced simply because it's in Manhattan. We made that mistake and wasted our time at dealers in New Jersey, Brooklyn, etc. This dealership has by far the best service and very good pricing to boot. read more
