I've loved going to Guini in St. Helena since I was in college, and even though I'm not in town often anymore, I still make it a point to stop by when I can. It's the only place I know that has white sharp cheddar cheese, which I love on sandwiches, and I always get their Guini juice on the side. That said, I was a bit taken aback by the pricing on my most recent visit. I completely understand that prices go up, but my veggie sandwich was listed at $13.75 and I was charged $17.75. It turns out certain breads are an upcharge, but that wasn't communicated--I only realized after I had already paid. I also asked for pepperoncini and was charged $3, even though it's supposed to be $1.75. On top of that, it looks like I was charged for cucumbers, even though they're listed as part of the vegetarian sandwich, which feels a bit misleading. I've never had this issue before, so next time I'll definitely double-check pricing or order online since that's always been accurate for me. I still enjoy the food, just wish pricing and add-ons were more clearly communicated. read more

When in St.Helena, or the Napa area, and looking for an amazing sandwich, I can't say enough good things about this place. It feels like it's been ages since I've been to a deli where you select the meat and they slice it right there in front of you. They have an incredible meat selection, including what I went with, mortadella. After you select your meat and the person is working on slicing on it, you go to the next person who builds your sandwich with what you would like on it. I went with a mortadella sandwich on a sourdough roll with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, mayo, and of course, the Giugnisauce. I've been going to Giugni's since I was a teen, it was the after-school spot and it still hits every single time. They never skimp on the meat, cheese, or toppings, and the bread + deli selection means you can create so many different sandos. Right in the center of Main Street, perfect for a picnic or a quick bite anytime. The space is always clean, and I love the variety of snacks and drinks they carry. It has been years since I have been here and I am happy to say that not much has changed. I had the privilege of being able to bring my wife with me to show her a piece of my scholastic history that happened to include this wonderful place. I cannot remember the last time I was here but I was happy to walk through those doors again after so many years away to be hit with the sights, sounds and smells of this place. Walking in feels like walking into your Grandma's kitchen and she has people over, eating her famous sandwiches. The line was long (it was a weekend) but no one complained because everyone who comes here remembers the hype, and everyone that visits wants to know what the hype is. The service is still the same - quick, clear, and friendly. My wife got the vegetarian sandwich with the works and I got an egg salad sandwich with the works - this has always been my order! The ingredients are fresh, the sweet bread is soft, and the egg salad is still cold and flavorful. Having that sandwich just took me back to 90's and early 2000's when I would come down from Angwin to have this sandwich. The sandwich is nostalgic, but also delicious. I recommend you eat your sandwich fresh because it tastes so much better. We grabbed a few bags of chips, some bottled soda and that Guigni Juice is still *chef's kiss*. My wife loved it, I loved it, and we even got to snap a few photos of the place because who knows when the next time will be when I can come back. The ambience inside in service is not really friendly. We walked in there was nobody in line. No hello welcome or anything. But we were hungry. I got a turkey and roast beef sandwich with extra meat. Extra meat is only three slices for four dollars. That's a little steep. The bread is not fresh. They pull that out out of a bag. It had like that old stale taste to it. Definitely would not recommend and it's all drenched in canola oil sauce. A sandwich from Safeway or Raleys taste better and 1/3 of the cost. read more

If you're in downtown I'd suggest stopping at the Orin Swift Tasting room and then walking down the block for a sandwich from this place. These are FAT sandwiches, they come with micro greens and the works and you can add a bunch of other things for additional charges. The service is a deli line and it moves as quick as whoever is ordering in front of you. The people are nice and you have plenty of customization options. Giugni's is definitely a stop to experience nostalgia rather than chasing after the same taste as before. This particular visit was disappointing because they were missing the rosemary bread that I've always loved in the past. Instead I ordered the dutch crunch but it was pretty mediocre, I almost wish I had just ordered the wheat or plain bread instead. The sandwich was DELICIOUS. It's like Subway where you build your sandwich, but Jersey Mikes' Mike's way but with oil, vinegar, salt and pepper, and also sprouts. Saw this place on Eater's best food of Napa Valley, and since my wife and I both love Italian delis, we made sure to stop by. We ordered ahead, which didn't seem that necessary because the line was short, but the option is nice to have. I had the Italian Combo (of course) with Giugni juice and pepperoncini. It was really good, packed with meat and cheese, but I think I should have left off the pepperoncini, because the juice itself has some vinegar in it and it ended a little sour. My wife had the avocado cucumber and she had a similar criticism. However, the whole place was great, and I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area! read more

Went to Giugni's for the first time on a vacation to Napa with my brother and his girlfriend. They had been raving about it since the last time they had gone to Napa together. We arrived pretty early before they closed as I understand people want to go home on time but the service was terrible. We weren't greeted as we walked in and since this was our first time here we weren't sure how it worked. We were given "directions" to how it worked but they mumbled and never gave eye contact. They also don't toast sandwiches here which I was surprised by. I also had to ask if they could microwave my deli meat as i'm pregnant and unable to have it without being cooked and they seemed so put out by this. My sandwich was soggy, and missing my add-on avocado ($2). My $8 sandwich from whole foods in SF was better than this $14 sandwich. If you decide to eat here, walk your sandwich to the nearby park with picnic tables just a few minutes away by walking. This place definitely suffers from tourist inflation. I don't see how this place could be even close to 5 stars. We ordered an hour ahead and our sandwich was ready at the requested time. Upon opening it up, it was clear they made it well before my requested time and sitting for over 45 mins. The bread was soggy, flattened and there wasn't any residual heat from the toasting. The quantity of meat was acceptable for a $12 base price sandwich. The flavor was good, but the cold, soggy bread ruined my experience. Great food. Great service. Cute deli right in the middle of the downtown strip. The only negative to this place is that there are too many choices to make a sandwich from. They might be better served with more premade sandwich creations to choose from to help the out of towners speed up their ordering process. Can't complain about a local, family-run deli. As you can see in this picture, sando sizes are not small. They don't skimp on anything, and they'll make your sando to order.
