Awesome English muffins, but the breakfast sandwiches are all on the rich and heavy side, loaded with meat, cheese and eggs. I usually prefer a lighter breakfast, and these will definitely weigh you down. If you're OK with that, then you're in for an indulgent treat. I do wish they had better options for a DIY breakfast sandwich, as "substitutions" are generally treated as additions, so you end up paying more for less. On my last visit I just got a toasted English muffin with a side of scrambled eggs, hoping to assemble a simple breakfast sandwich, only to find that the side of scrambled eggs isn't the same as the "scrambled eggs" in the sandwiches, which seem to actually be baked egg patties. The eggs I got were slightly overcooked and dry. I will say, if you're a fan of biscuits, go for the biscuit breakfast sandwich. I actually thought it was better than their English muffin! read more

Good food but slow service. We always make it a point to stop by when we are visiting the area. We have tried several of their breakfast sandwiches but on this trip we had the breakfast burrito and a toasted English muffin on the side. The burrito was well seasoned and a good filling ratio. The side of English muffin was very buttery and was delicious with their side of jam. They also have pastries and premade sandwiches available. Only complain with this visit was the time it took for us to get our food. Seemed unusually long. We had ordered at the kiosk instead of at the counter. Never heard of the Model Bakery but using Yelp for great Bakeries. We were on our way to a morning hike to Linda Falls. This bakery was on the way and not so crowded then the one in Yountvile. There was no line waiting outside, which was good. There were people eating outside and inside. There was no line to order, but we never been here so we let the locals go in front of us. I decide on the Oxford Veggie Breakfast sandwich, minus the ketchup. The sandwich was great lots of Avocados in each bite and the egg was spot on. Id highly recommend this breakfast sandwich. By bf got the carmel mocha and a bear claw. The carmel mocha was excellent, I wanted ordernone for self. The bear claw was jus ok. Very dry. Not recommend. But that's just opinion. Cute little bakery, very popular, quick service, lots of options, and very friendly service. If your ever in St Helena. The Model Bakery is always going to be the best in St Helena in my book. Like a lot of bakeries they have on display an assortment of beautiful looking pastries to choose from and given the amount of people waiting in line I'd say they are very good. What I wait in line for, however, is their English Muffin- yes, an English Muffin! I have never eaten one that tasted so buttery, so crisp in the right way and just so overall delicious. At the bakery they toast it for you serve with butter ( you may not need it) and homemade jam. With a Cappuccino you are set -- both about $9.00. A bargain if you ask me. On your way out buy a bag of muffins to take home. Very reasonable and you'll enjoy for a few days because you can't just eat one! read more

First off the Kale Beet Salad I had was good. A little expensive for the small size, about $16. Visited recently during Memorial Day weekend. The reason for my review is because of the cleaning procedure. We had a two top by the row of cushioned bench sitting by the bakery counter. One of the employees (who was nice but) was vigorously sweeping all the crumbs on the floor. They were flying in our direction and I was dodging the debris so my shoes wouldn't get hit, which was unsettling. The kicker was she then took that same broom she was sweeping the floor with and started vigorously sweeping off the crumbs on "the cushions" where people sit!! That grossed me out :( A clean warm towel to wipe the seating down would be more appropriate. read more

If I was a pastry fiend, this review would likely be quite different, but as a salad lover, I can't recommend Model Bakery in the slightest. I was excited to see a kale salad on their menu, especially one with strong fixings such as squash and goat cheese; sadly, the ingredients were entirely AWOL. In the pre-mix photo, it appears like a relatively decent helping, but after mixing, it became a mountain of kale with the other ingredients having been a facade in the initial viewing. Classic shrinkflation by which a $20 salad (yikes!) is padded by a heap of greenery. Furthermore, the squash was undercooked and disappointing even in the few bites of it I had. I believe that the salad could be adjusted to be a satisfying meal (goat cheese is never a wrong choice), but right now it's a miss, for both the stomach and the wallet. read more

Another fabulous visit! Our family, visiting from the south of France, stopped into The Model Bakery in Saint Helena, and it was a savory and sweet experience. We were all captivated by the inviting ambiance and the tempting displays. My family felt the same way and stated that they felt they back in France . They (we all) fell in love with the English muffins, the sandwiches, and the drinks--each bite was a taste of perfection. I can't judge this place on any of its baked goods aside from the english muffin, but the english muffin is all you really need. We ordered one with sausage and egg and it was perfectly griddled with a really amazing chipotle sauce to really round out the whole sandwich. We also got a 6 pack of english muffins to go and had amazing breakfasts that entire week. I wish I bought more to stick in the freezer! The atmosphere was so cozy and quaint and the perfect way to start a slow morning before exploring the rest of St Helena. The English muffin itself was good and crispy in the outside. Not sure how often I'd want to pay upwards of $10 for this. I went into Model bakery in Saint Helena I was picking up a large chocolate order and decided hey moDel bakery let me grab a sandwich and a drink and a treat. I'm looking in the display wonderful looking strawberry cream cheese pie six dollars for a slice why not? I did grab and go for my other two items and ask the young man behind the counter to please provide me with the slice of the pie. He proceeds to look to his left and speak to one of the two women there in Spanish, thinking I didn't understand him. One of them replied to him. I don't want to cut it for the white lady in Spanish so he told me he could not provide me a slice that they were saving the pies to sell whole very disappointing as I often use MoDel bakery for Catering. This place is an institution and we had to make a visit. We went early on a Saturday and it was already very busy. We managed to get a table on the patio which was okay - hard to move around the restaurant with how busy it was as. Wish it was a bit more laid back - peaceful but it's popular for a reason. I hadn't visited Model Bakery in a while and decided to try their new self-order kiosk. While I easily found the English muffins and a breakfast sandwich, the kiosk didn't allow jam ordering, forcing me to buy those separately at the counter without a problem. The real issue, however, remains the service. When my initial order was handed to me, I noticed a bag of English muffins was missing. When I asked the staff member in the coffee area for clarification, she curtly told me she was "too busy to answer questions" and to ask someone else--despite not actively making coffee at the time. Another employee eventually informed me the rest of my order would come with my sandwich, but the tone from both was incredibly dismissive, as if my basic inquiry was a massive imposition. Model Bakery rightfully gets excellent press for their food, but their staff consistently treats paying customers like an annoyance. If you can get through your visit with zero human interaction, it's fine. Otherwise, save your time and money; there are plenty of other fantastic bakeries in Napa Valley that actually value their customers. read more

The set up for ordering is confusing- yes the line starts on the far right side but you order drinks and menu food at the register. Can only order/pick pastries at the pastry counter. One star off for consistently not preparing my italian soda based on number of pumps I asked for. One was too sweet (standard is 4-5pumps but he wasn't sure.) the other was not enough syrup. Apparently a boil order, but when we asked how they are washing the vegetables we were told they had separate water for vegetables and for employees but would not provide for us. We asked for our money back and they refused even though we had not received our food. They said it was policy. The policy on their receipt was no refund after order was fulfilled. Ulises took our order: 3 different cookies $2.75-$4.75, a Carmelita bar $4 as well as a SH Veggie Breakfast sandwich $12.50, Sausage Breakfast sandwich $13.50, and a 12oz Latte $8 Everything was magically delicious! The only issue I had was them not having a public bathroom, which it turns out is the case for most of the restaurants in St Helena. I was told there was one down the street near the Tesla charges in the back alley. I had a bit of trouble finding it at first, but finally found what looked like one of the self cleaning restrooms you'd find on the streets of SF. It was automated from the button to open/close the door, flush toilet, soap, water and hand dryers. There were 2 restrooms next to each other in one big box. The problem was the one I used on the right side didn't have any soap, so luckily the one on the left was vacant, so I used that one to wash my hands. read more

I usually frequent the Napa Model Bakery location when visiting the area. But with a short stay nearby, decided to come by St. Helena location after lunch today around 12:30 pm. After scoping out the pastries, was going to get the banana bread and lemon poppy seed bread. But saw one fly near the banana bread and another fly on top of the lemon poppy seed bread and decided not to get any of those pastries. Today was a very hot day and understandable that the bugs were out. But just not very sanitary or appetizing after seeing so many flies flying around. As I moved closer to the baked breads, you can see more flies. Since already in line, got a slice of lemon meringue and small fruit tart which were enclosed. Model bakery is one of my favorites. I've been to the Napa location several times and this was my first visit to the St Helena location. The sandwich menu is bigger here, but the viennoiserie / pastry selection is much smaller. I also think the coffee is much less smooth here. My veggie breakfast sandwich was delicious as usual, as was the cookie and loaf of bread we picked up, but overall I prefer the Napa location for the coffee and pastries. read more
