This was at the counter top which gave me the feeling like I was in Japan with light EDM in the back. We were able to order and try most of the items we wanted. It was pricey and still had add on items that required another fee like bottomless drinks or adding proteins. 3.5 stars, but rounded up because the restaurant's parking validation actually ended up covering past the two hour mark that I originally thought was the validation cap. I probably would cried if I had to pay for expensive Anaheim hotel parking, so thank you Nova for the assist. The food was just okay IMO. My friend took me here for a belated birthday celebration and we ordered a couple of their fan favorite dishes to share. This included: - Panko Crusted Salmon - Double Hamachi Roll - Panko Crusted Salmon - Gochu-nara Pasta - Scallion Pancake Asada Of these, the only dish that I'd order again would maybe be their Double Hamachi Roll and that probably be if it was ever offered under happy hour pricing. Their salmon on the other hand was actually very buttery and they cooked it surprisingly well, but the sauce surrounding it was pretty flavorless. It could've done with additional broccolini as well. Another bummer was that I had heard such amazing things about their Scallion Pancake Asada appetizer, but was only to be left unfulfilled and couldn't enjoy one of favorite forms of steak to its full potential. You're going to laugh when you find out why. It wasn't because of the way it was cooked or seasoned. It wasn't because of the warmth of the dish. It wasn't even because of the portion of the meal or the price point. It was literally because the slices of skirt steak were too thick for me to bite through, and our server never brought out knives for us to dine with, so I just suffered in silence.. trying to power through the jaw strength of all of my ancestors combined. On top of all of this, they didn't really do anything for my birthday either even though I noted it in my OpenTable reservation, so that was kinda meh. This place was amazing! Celebrated friends birthday here in Whiskey room. It was private and fun. The place adds a good feel of night club, it gets your energy pumped up. The drinks were all really good. One drink that lingers on my mind is my revenge. It had a green snake in the glass and smoky flavor, the server serves the drink with lid on top. Our family of 8 celebrated Father's Day dinner at Nova, and we had a wonderful experience. Make sure to validate your parking, they have plenty of parking available. The restaurant itself is beautiful, classy, and has a great ambiance. The hosts and servers were all friendly and attentive. A special shoutout to our server for recommending the Father's Day special; otherwise, we probably would have spent much more! We ordered the tomahawk special with two additional steaks for $120, Floating Garlic Noodles, Sashimi Platter, Pork Belly Bao, Dragon Breath sushi roll, sinigang wings, and for dessert, the Matcha tiramisu and Chocolate Ganache Cake . Don't be discouraged when you see that you have to pay for parking they validate if you dine in. We were greeted by Tram the host at the front and a really really cute ambience of a holographic Koi fish pond. Really cute photo op spots. Although it was a Friday night around 8:30 PM, we didn't make a reservation as we just found this place but it took about 10-15 minutes to get seated. It looks like there was a good amount of bigger parties, but not a lot of servers. Besides service being a little slow the drinks were bomb. We ordered the ASMR which stands for angry stick mango rice drink, and we also got the My Revenge. 11/10 drinks. The chili garlic wontons were really good. Beware it is pork and shrimp. We loved them. We also got the pork belly baos and it was ehh (a little too much hoisin sauce). Plain tasting, but pork belly was soft. But we got the floating noodles which were super cool and tasted good. And we also got one roll which was called the double Hamachi roll. I rate the roll a 9/10. This place is dangerous. I knew that eating here might cause a gout flare up. My wife had picked this place for Mother's Day brunch. I didn't have a choice. They had all the high purine foods possible for a flareup like crab, shrimp and prime rib. All favorites of mine. They had breakfast items like sausage, bacon and waffles. I don't know if they do this weekly, but, they did have a guy distributing the crab legs. Our empty plates were regularly cleared. They have a good brunch. Take the gout pill prior to eating here. Finally! This restaurant has been on my saved list for years and I finally got to go. As a walk-in on a Friday night I only had to wait 10 or 15 minutes to be seated. I really appreciated the fact how fast the food came, but the noodle dish was a little on the cold side and some of the flavors of the dishes just didn't excite me as much as I had hoped for. I also ordered a couple of cocktails that were reasonably priced around $15 each that took a long time to arrive and were not good in my opinion but I kept them because it would take too long for something else to come out. My server Jay did a great job with being attentive. The aesthetics of this restaurant are nice and there is a private dining area, which would be a great to host a special occasion but for me personally I'm not in the biggest rush to come back. What a horrible place. Besides the ambiance which is great! Everything else is horrible. It took the waiter 20 minutes to get a draft beer. That's was the 1st thing I ordered. Food: ordered a sushi which was horrible and seemed like it was pre-made was put in freezer and defrost and served it to us. The chow mean was dry no flavors at all. It took the waiter forever to get soy and chillies sauce by that time the food was cold. The edamane was cold. The veggie and tofu was k, the tofu was crispy but no flavors very bland. When you walk into the lobby, there are coy fish projected on a wall and silvery things hanging from the ceiling to look like you're underwater. There are two sides to the restaurant. One side is very sleek and has the sushi bar and the other side is more loungy with a regular bar. We sat outside since we had the pup. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. We ordered a few items and had some drinks. They had a nice sale list as well. Sautéed edamame - yummy and garlicky. Zesty wonton with sauce on the side. I can't do spicy so I just dunked mine in some soy sauce. It was good. Chili oil wonton- my husband really liked these. 30 piece sashimi- nice big pieces of fish. The fish were split into 3 pieces each. Instead of all different types of fish, there were a few they repeated. Saw all the great reviews so we decided to try this place for Father's Day. Being close to Disneyland I was worried about the parking, but they have a parking lot that they share with the Residence Inn that they validate so parking is easy. The ambiance is really nice and the staff is very friendly. They had a Father's Day special which included three steaks that was a very good deal. Unfortunately we asked for medium rare but they all came out medium well so the only steak that tasted good was the rib eye. I would recommend trying a steak as the flavors were good. We ordered a bunch of sushi that were good (not great). I did really enjoyed their vegetarian fried rice with egg served on a hot plate and their pork belly charshu bowl. The sauce was citrusy and refreshing. Kung Pao Chicken- 3/5: Tastes like your average westernized kung pao dish. On the sweet side. There was a lot given and came with lots of rice. It's very refreshing, the fish is clearly high quality, and it sets the tone for the meal perfectly. The chef grinding fresh wasabi tableside is a thoughtful touch that you don't see often and it genuinely elevates the experience. Speaking of which, the Bluefin Tuna pairs beautifully with it. It's not the best I've had, but it's still a solid bite. Freshwater Unagi is better than your average unagi. Flavorful and well seasoned. The Yellowtail Belly is lightly buttery and a very satisfying bite. The Sweet Shrimp has some roe on it, is slightly sweet, and feels a bit more substantial than the other pieces. The Toro With Caviar is a standout. Super smooth texture and incredible flavor. The Toro Handroll is also quite good, though it doesn't quite reach the heights of the toro cut itself. Mushroom Toast delivers amazing umami and I love that it comes as two pieces, making it a more substantial course. An excellent change of pace. Scallops With Uni is super tasty. The flavors of both hit you instantly and everything tastes incredibly fresh. The South Korean Halibut has a clean flavor profile, though it's slightly difficult to chew. The Sealed Salmon W/ Pico De Gallo is a fun and tasty bite. The pico is a creative addition. The Salmon With Fried Shallots And Truffle Oil is good too, though the truffle oil is a slight contrast against the salmon and shallots. Still enjoyable overall. For drinks, the Sunrise In Kyoto is dangerously good. Not overly sweet and you can barely taste the alcohol. Very easy to over-order. The Ooo La Lada is a rum cocktail that runs a little strong but is still tasty. On the dessert side, the Chocolate Ganache Cake is rich and oozy with very heavenly chocolate. The ice cream and chocolate crumble complement it wonderfully, and the fresh fruit adds a bright, bursting finish. The Green Tea Mochi is light and pleasant, though the flavor gets a bit lost after such a robust meal. Our server Calvin was exceptional. He was consistently on top of clearing plates and bowls, kept waters filled, and checked in regularly throughout the meal. He even brought moist towelettes right before I was about to ask for them. That's S+ service. I would only suggest that the chef wipe the serving stone between courses so the pictures turn out better haha. The ambiance is stunning. We asked for a quick tour and learned that each room is themed after a different element. The decor is beautiful and thoughtful throughout, and there's even a hidden karaoke room tucked away. 7,815 mostly 5 star reviews? I dunno... The restaurant is in the Hyatt Regency Orange Country Convention Center complex...I didn't know this when I searched for a highly rated restaurant in Anaheim. I wish I had known this because I probably wouldn't have chosen it. But it was all of the raving reviews and the mere quantity of them that swayed my decision and well, Yelp, ya led me wrong for the first time! Ok, I realize I'm being a little harsh but there's no way this place is as good as all of these reviews. We were coming in from the South Bay to pick up my daughter and her boyfriend from their High School Winter Formal at the Anaheim Grove so the wife and I had a date night. Lots of reviews noted the elegant and sophisticated decor but I'm not so sure I would call hanging tinsel in the entrance of the restaurant or the nightclubby vibe terribly elegant. The space is massive with several different dining rooms; it's nice but terribly, terribly loud. We had made reservations on Opentable but when we got there, we were told that we'd need to wait 15-20 minutes for our table. Maybe that and having to find a parking space out in the massive and packed Convention Center parking lot left me with a bad taste in my mouth from the onset. As the host guided us to the bar to wait, he noticed that a table was, in fact, just being cleared so after ordering a drink at the bar, he came back over to bring us to our table. He was friendly and genuinely wanted us to be happy. The Beijing Fashion ($15) was tasty if on the smaller side. It was gone in just a few sips. Rombauer Chard ($16) was priced very reasonably for a solid Chard but the pour was ridiculous. My wife even took a pic. For our meal, we ordered the wings ($14), Dan Dan Noodles ($14), Double Hamachi Roll ($19) and an order of salmon belly nigiri ($9). I also ordered a Paloma with Mezcal ($18) and I just couldn't handle the girly glass it was served in so I asked for a rocks glass instead...lol. Food presentation was great, especially the Dan Dan Noodles. They tasted good, not amazing, with good heat but I think the flavor of the chili oil dominated the dish. The wings were solid with good crunch and the double Hamachi Roll was just as you'd expect; I enjoyed both. The salmon belly was good, not amazing. Usually good salmon and salmon belly are super tender with your teeth sinking into the flesh and it just melts in your mouth. This just wasn't like that at all. This salmon definitely had a bite and chew to it. Still good, but not amazing, like I said. Service was very good. Our waiter Kim Saur was very friendly and attentive. Reading the other reviews I was very happy that we had a better experience than some others. So...if in the area again, I probably won't pick Nova. The giant, packed convention center parking, the super clubby and loud atmosphere (not very elegant at all) and the fair fare (see what I did there?)...it just was not my cup of tea for what I was looking for. On the other hand, if you're looking for what seems to be a pretty fun, clubby spot while you're at the hotel or attending a convention, I don't think you'd be disappointed by the food. I believe our server's name was Alex. We came in with a group of 15+ people, and honestly, he absolutely crushed it the whole time. He stayed on top of everything, made sure everyone had what they needed, and checked in with us regularly without being too much. The drink menu looks beautiful and the choices are so good. Everything we ate was pretty good but I have to be honest on just a couple things. I didn't care for the sisig, had a few burnt pieces and I could taste it. And we ordered a seafood dish but I think the waiter forgot to put it in and I totally forgot about it. We were already done with everything else and didn't want to wait to get the last dish cuz it was getting busy so unfortunately, we didn't get to try that dish.
