Super nice and helpful. Great customer service for a fast food restaurant. The place was clean.

I have been a loyal Rubio's customer since 1995, which is why I took the time to provide detailed feedback directly to the company regarding recent menu changes. Unfortunately, the response I received felt generic and did not address most of the concerns I raised and even contained repeated language, which gave the impression that my feedback was not fully reviewed. My concerns were not simply about one menu item. They included the frequent renaming of established menu items, the removal of long time customer favorites such as the fried shrimp, and the introduction of new offerings that seem to duplicate customizations that were already available. Changing names and creating confusion is nothing new for Rubios. In fact, the company has reinvented its identity so many times over the years that it sometimes feels like it is going through a long term branding midlife crisis. One year it is all about Baja, then it is Fresh Mexican, and now it is Coastal Grill. Consider the evolution: - Rubios Baja Grill (1980s through the 2000s): The original brand that introduced many of us to fish tacos and built a loyal following. - Rubios Fresh Mexican Grill (2000s to 2015): A rebrand focused on fresh ingredients and expanding beyond fish tacos. - Rubios Coastal Grill (2015 to present): Another rebrand designed to emphasize seafood and coastal inspired cuisine. At this point, the menu items probably know their names are not safe either. Imagine if McDonalds periodically renamed the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, and Happy Meal. Customers would spend more time decoding the menu than ordering from it. Sometimes consistency is the best branding strategy. I also shared feedback about the Macro Bowl, which was introduced and then removed shortly afterward, seemingly because they don't have brown rice when you can add Spanish or citrus rice. The food quality remains excellent, and that is why I continue to visit Rubio's. However, consistency matters. Long time customers build loyalty around familiar menu items, predictable offerings, and a clear brand identity. I hope Rubio's pays closer attention to customer feedback and considers the perspective of customers who have supported the brand for decades. I remain a fan of Rubio's, but this was a disappointing customer service experience. read more

God bless America, and Rubio's Fourth of July Special! 2 entrees for $20 is a sparkling offer that is hard to refuse. Although my heart belongs to their fish tacos, I had to try the double protein power bowl entree. It was delicious! I chose their shrimp and steak for protein. Definitely loved the shrimp more, but enjoyed the whole bowl! You can never go wrong with Rubio's. From fish tacos to shrimp burritos to power bowls ... I also love that they show calorie count for each meal, and that you can choose a healthier option. Ordering is super easy online. And their food, always delicious! read more

Ok, Rubio's, I see you! I never really thought about visiting, but all the ads on Instagram kept catching my eye. With Lent currently being celebrated, I decided to give your $8 fish and chips a try. Also ordered the fish sando for $5 and a shrimp taco for $5 so, $22 out the door, not bad at all. The coleslaw definitely needs some work, and the salsa bar didn't quite hit the mark for me; I just wasn't feeling any of it. I mean, you guys have an impressive variety, but one or two of the items tasted off. Still, I appreciate the effort and the value. Might come back to try a few more things and see if they improve! This is my first favorite quick service Mexican chain restaurant. It was my mom who took me to my first Taco Tuesday 30 years ago back in the mid 90's, and I've been enjoying Rubio's ever since. The steak tacos are my favorite, but the chicken, and fish are also just as good. All of the sides are excellent too, especially the no-fried beans. And absolutely everything is perfectly seasoned. The rewards program has earned me lots of free food, and provided many coupons and deals. I will forever be a loyal customer to Rubio's, or for as long as they stick around. I usually love Rubio's and order from them often, but this time was really disappointing. I placed my order through the app and picked it up as usual, but when I got home, the lemons they gave me were extremely moldy. I called the store hoping for a refund or at least some kind of help, and the woman who answered just took my name and then hung up without offering any assistance. We walked in and it wasn't too busy, got our order quickly and sat down outside to eat. The inside was pretty noisy with a guy who kept yelling on his cell phone and had it on speaker phone. I really wished the cashier would of politely asked him to go outside and have that talk. No one in the restaurant wanted to hear his convo! I am competely done with this chain. I tried giving their other location on 17th st a chance as the other Santa Ana location was incompetent. Twice they blew an online order, telling me it didn't go through. Their app is programmed by a kid or the place is run by lids. Probably both. Regardless, the old phrase applies. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice,shame on me. There wont be a 3rd time. No surprise why this chain keeps closing stores. Bad customer service on my 30 min lunch break was taking longer than 30 min. Was in work uniform Employees are slow and seem not to care or hurry on anybody's order. Decided to get a refund because I was not even able to eat anymore due to my lunch break being over very insane .. they tried giving me back 13.00 indstead of the 21.00 I spent. I have been to this location a few times now I am giving them 5 stars based on how good the food is I got the California Bowl with half shrimp half steak beans rice and avocado it was really good everything was really fresh and tasted great. We love RUBIOS, the shrimp gourmet tacos are the best! We have been coming for a few years to this location and it's always a great experience. Recently in January 2025 the employees were very nice, service was fast, food was delicious. Our only complaint and main reason for the 3 stars is that there were 3 different black guys who came in and tried to sell us and other customers apple products (fake products to be exact). This kind of ruined our dinning experience as this had never happened before and it's very uncomfortable to have someone interrupt your meal like that. We were probably dinning for about 30-40mins at the most and we were surprised that 3 different guys had come in in different occasions doing the same exact thing. I'm not sure if the employees or manager know this is happening but if they don't please be on the lookout and if they are aware please don't allow this. It's so uncomfortable and on top of that the products are fake! One of the men tried to approach my baby. And after we said no thank you he really tried to be persistent. That sort of ruined our dinning experience. Therefore we are now hesitant on dinning at this specific location, we might just do pick up from now on or completely stop going and just go to a different location. A bit disappointed with this place. I arrived about 825pm & although the place still had employees working & customers inside the door was locked. I was confused and checked the hours on the sign & it said open until 9pm. So as I'm standing there looking confused the employees just looked at me and ignored me like I wasn't standing there. Finally after a few minutes an employee opened the door. The employees all giggled & jokingly said they wanted to leave on time, hence the reason for the early shut down. They then took my order but I felt very rushed & could feel there irritation of them having to fire up the grill again. I didn't feel welcomed at all. Beware ordering via app... To be fair, I'll break down my review like this... Food - 4 out 5. Tasty food. Location - 4 out of 5...the location can get busy but there's plenty of parking, so all good there. Cleanliness - 4 out of 5. It's well kept and not super dirty. Service - so this is my only issue. I ordered their taco trio without chipotle sauce because mom doesn't like spicy food...when I get home, there's chipotle sauce! Not paying attention at all!! I could eat it because I'm ok with it. In fact, I think it's delicious, but for older people who are more sensitive to spicey food, no can do. The receipt even said no sauce but they still added it. Wow ALEX THE MANAGER is seriously the best. I accidentally placed my order for a different location and had used a good deal. I immediately called to cancel it and explained my situation. Alex SO GENEROUSLY offered his reward from his personal app to give me the same reward since I lost it due to my own fault of placing the order at the wrong location. He absolutely didn't have to do that but he did. It's little things like that that make me want to return to this location. I'm a major rubios fan and hope they stay open for the rest of my life. The food was good enough... I would say pricey, but we had a BOGO coupon that made it manageable. The problem came from one employee in particular (I was told her name was Anna or Hannah?). She was almost purposefully clueless when we asked what made "al pastor" shrimp bowl different from another shrimp bowl. She finally just said "spices", hardly helpful. Then, when asked why the salsa bar was closed, she just said that it wasn't open. Not much in the way of a reason why... (Note, I found out a little later, on my own, that they had recently closed it for the evening.) To top it off, we were blessed with her helpfulness yet once again. When she brought our our food, she asked if she could get us anything (as she put our bowls on the table. We asked for utensils, she said, "they're on the counter" and walked away while rolling her eyes. I suppose I should just let this attitude and lack of helpfulness slide, but here in Orange County where the minimum wage is upwards of $17+ an hour, people should actually EARN that rather than just receive it by being present. It's been a long time going to Rubios, but they haven't changed. The food is still great! Parking here is plentiful allowing easy parking anywhere. They do have social distancing measures, hand sanitizers available and staff wears masks. The employees are polite and fast, getting the order done correctly and swiftly Things that can use a little more improvement is having more seating area in the patio (minimal tables) and developing a method in which people can serve themselves or employees can serve drinks (instead of having to buy bottled drinks) Besides that everything was great like I remember it! read more

This location makes mistakes on my order every time. I place my order through the app and always get mad at myself for tipping beforehand. This time when I went in there to pick up my order again, there were a few things wrong with it. They never look at the details of the app order. So I stood there again to wait for them to fix my order. I tried to be as patient as I could, but I was completely ignored. So when I asked if someone could help me, I was snapped at by the guy behind the counter. Then a man who I think was the manager came up and I was trying to explain to him what was wrong with the order and I told him this happens to me every time. No apology, just gave me attitude. When I tried to have a conversation with him he just interrupted me and said to call his supervisor and walked away! He didn't want to hear about it. I asked if I could have my tip back and the other guy behind the counter said I could do it on their website but didn't bother explaining how. I'm so upset with this location and their bad customer service. Also my order is never ready by the time the app says it will be ready. The slip for the order is always still hanging there untouched. They also never give me the correct amount of salsas I order. Don't tell us we can order up to 6 if you never give us 6 in the order. Lunch hours (11am-1pm) are SLAMMED! Save yourself the frustration and order ahead ONLINE. Parking is easy and free. Everyone here is really nice. Today when I picked up my large order the manager was very kind to all his staff. He was being direct because they were super super busy but he was still really nice. Someone accidentally combined my order with another guest by the same name. When I gave the food back, the manager gave me a wonderful coupon for my next visit! I really appreciate the thoughtfulness. Now don't panic, he said they would be making a new plate for the other guest and I watched him toss the plate I gave back to him, so no one is over here spreading coodies or anything else. Well, it seems my rating has somehow disappeared, so I will recap. We picked up lunch and my 2 beer batter fish tacos were D I S G U S T I N G! After biting into the first one and getting nothing but crispy batter i decided to eat them with a fork. Each piece had a very small piece of fish in the middle and both ends were noting but hard batter. My lunch and $10 ended up in the trash. Now I know why so many locations are closing. Fresh of the Boat is right up the street from this place and is much better. read more
