This place is disgusting as far as cleanliness goes. Food was average, but having to clean the table after the waitress cleaned it and still feeling like I need to shower again is beyond me. I'm not sure who manages this one, but being clean is clearly not at the top of the list. The bathroom was disgusting. These pictures can speak for themselves.

The food is excellent when compared to other local restaurants, and the menu offers a reasonable American fare variety without an overabundance of selections. I did get a very much overcooked medium rare prime rib on my last visit, but the waitress took care of that right away. (Still, someone should have caught that before it got to the table.) Word of warning: the Sunday Brunch menu is actually a breakfast menu with limited choices. Last time I checked, lunch items were not available on Sundays. TIP: on sunny days you may prefer to wait for a table that is shaded by an umbrella or part of the building, it can get pretty hot out there.

Highly recommend eating here. Make reservations. We were lucky to stop at a non busy time and they sat us down promptly.

Once we got over the fact that this joint is located inside a gas station convenience store, we placed our order and stood in line with people paying for their gasoline so we could pay for our food and a couple bottles of water. About 10 minutes later, they called our name; we grabbed our food from the counter and sat down at one of the five tables. We popped open our foam clamshells and dug into fluffy pancakes while "Honkytonk Badonkadonk" blared on the radio. This place is about half the cost of a more traditional restaurant, has half the ambiance, but this was one of the best breakfasts I have eaten in a long time. Definitely recommend it if you are passing through.

My first bite threw me a little -- the cheese wasn't fully melted, and I'm usually all about that stringy, gooey pull. But by the second bite, I got it: the tomato inside was still cool, so if the cheese had been melted all the way through, the tomato would've had to be piping hot too, and that would've thrown off the whole balance. Smart execution, even if it wasn't what I expected at first. The crinkle fries on the side were cooked to perfection -- crispy on the outside, exactly the right texture. This spot is a great late-lunch/early-dinner stop if you're passing through. Simple, well-made food that hits the spot. Will definitely be back next time we're on this road.

Bulls & Bones: Burgers, BBQ & Brewpub has a lot of "B" alliteration going on. I felt like a steak when I visited, so I went for it. I got the USDA Angus Sirloin, which comes with two sides (I chose steamed broccoli and fries). The steak and sides were good and simple, which was just what I was feeling like that night. I visited Bull & Bones with a group of people, and we ordered a few appetizers to share, so I got to taste some things on the menu. First of all, we got complimentary potato chips for the table. Sweet! We also ordered the fried pickles (not my thing, but people were going off on them). Also, we got two orders of the wings: one was boneless wings with buffalo sauce, and the other was regular bone-in wings with Caroline Gold sauce. My favorite were the wings with Carolina Gold sauce, because of the flavor. They were so savory and slightly sweet. For dessert, we got the warm cookie with two scoops of ice cream (yum!) and the blueberry lemon cake, which didn't look like much but tasted amazing. A little bit of dessert goes a long way, and I think you could get away with sharing a dessert, for sure. The ambiance at Bulls & Bones is casual. It's a sit-down restaurant, but it's not fancy at all.

The bar area also has a good amount of TV's so you can catch some of your sports while there too. Food is great too. Haven't had a chance to sit outside yet, but the patio is well maintained and inviting!

They offer a nationally acclaimed menu that's been featured on NPR, Southern Living Magazine and even the ACC Network. They offer their own parking lot in the rear A huge rarity in a college area. It was clean and maintained. It was a treat to meet the owner in front of the tavern tending to landscaping needs. The historic homes facade presents beautifully. There is also outdoor seating. Our party of seven enjoyed a Sunday brunch while knowing little about the establishment. We were promptly greeted with a smile and menus and seated on the front room. Each of the four interior rooms has a fireplace and nostalgic photos adorn the walls. They also have a small bar with a focus on bourbon. The menu had one hit after another with authentic Southern cooking. The description calls it a "Traditional Regional Farmers Menu."No question the fried chicken is the hero. Five out of seven got the fried chicken. Others the chili and meatloaf. A plate of biscuits and cornbread were placed on the table after drinks placed. The history of the tavern on the menu is worthy of your time. The owner, originally from Blacksburg moved from California to restore for his own home. Later opening the restaurant. His goal to keep the structure original and true to purpose as a tavern. The owner himself comes from a family of tavern proprietors. I digress too long! The FOOD ALREADY!!! Well as you have probably already guessed it was impressive and exceeded my expectations. Every main, every side was a home run. From the mash potatoes & gravy to the macaroni & cheese, backed apples and green beans, to the rarely found succotash. All fabulous! Only starter was ham biscuits which were good. Mains of chili and meatloaf strong. But it was the fried chicken that brings local and tourist alike in the door. The chicken was cooked up to perfection and deliciously moist The breading was exceptional as well with no dripping grease and a medium crispy finish. The only desert ordered was the brownie & ice-cream. So yummy! The owner Daniel checked in on us before departing which made our experience even more special. The Blacksburg Tavern is a Southwestern Virginia gem that's a must to dine at. Checkout was efficient and prices affordable for large quality dishes. I will return later this year and hope to catch live music. Highly recommend.
