I just want everyone to know this review is 1000% just about the service. Love Waffle House so much...but this place, absolutely FUCKING disgusting. I came here with my partner after having drinks with friends following a wedding in town. We arrived at around 12:45am and weren't immediately greeted, so we waited for directions for what seemed like an extended amount of time. I finally spoke up and asked "Hello! Are we allowed to search ourselves?" An angry man with dreads, glasses and an aggressive and angry demeanor, said "No, you can't..." in a rude voice that made me feel antagonized and immediately not welcome. In short, completely disgusting. And me, being me...I responded. He then continued to be rude. Telling other employees not to serve us. I saw this and immediately, told my partner, it's time to go. It's a well oiled machine and even if there are slip ups, the staff here quickly resolved messed up orders. They were overly apologetic and we only had a few mix ups on the order. Hello everyone! I am not one to do this, but once my kids are involved, it's a completely different story. We went to the Waffle House at 1515 51st Ave E Ellenton, Fl 34222. I walked in for breakfast and no one was up at the front. There was some dirty tables so I walked to one to see if any were going to be available. Before I could even finish my sentences to a employee, she just kept saying "No ma'am No ma'am" over and over. I was trying to figure out if there was a line or how they did things at this Waffle House. She was incredibly rude about it. I proceeded to walk to the front to sign in. We waited, got a table and ordered our food (server was great btw). After we got our food, our daughter needed to go to the restroom. It's a one stall bathroom. We gave our daughter a phone and said to call when she was done (tummy ache so it was going to be a couple min). We were right next to the stall and could see everything. So it was safe and we could continue eating. I sat down and another customer walked up to use the restroom. Immediately, the employee who was already rude once, ran up to the door and hit it/started yanking on the handle loudly. It was so loud and aggressive it scared my daughter to the point of tears. I ran up the door and told her to stop! The employee scoffed at me, rolled her eyes and said, "She has been in there forever" I rebuttled and said she just went in there and there was absolutely no reason for that behavior. There were other customers comments how aggressive that was and uncalled for. My daughter came out and it caused her to panic and she was in tears. This was completely unacceptable and just plain arrogant behavior. I spoke to management and will be pursing higher management. However, this wasn't just a slap on the wrist scenario. This lady scared the crap out of my daughter, was rude to me and honestly, wasn't the nicest to other customers as they came in. The best way I can describe it was she was treating customers as cattle, calling them to tables as they were clean. Like I said, I don't normally do this, but this scared my daughter so bad, I wanted other families to know about it before going to this Waffle House. The employees name is Karen. And if she were to be reading this, I hope she is incredibly disappointed in her behavior and realize that positive actions are better than negative, regardless what's going on in your own personal life. This place should be ashamed and embarrassed. We went there on a Monday morning and it was not busy. There was no chatter between the staff that you would normally hear at a Waffle House. The vibe was that the manager and staff did not get along. We sat down and the young gentleman took our order. While sitting there I noticed 3 plates way off to the side that had waffles on them. First of all, the entire waffle area looked like a messy disaster. I would not have ordered one. Service was very slow, again not hearing anyone communicate in their kitchen. After a while, our order arrived. My order was wrong as it was a sandwich missing lettuce, tomato, and pickles. That took another 10 minutes to get because for some reason, they fried up some onions and brought them to me instead. Keep in mind, that these 3 waffles have now been sitting out on the counter for our entire visit. About 45 minutes into this, we watched them start taking these waffles and warm them on their grill and serve the to customers. I was disgusted to think these sat out as long as they did and then were served. Isn't the purpose of "Waffle House" to serve you fresh, hot waffles? Good food fast Their slogan was accurate, good is about the highest I would rate my Hash Brown Bowl this morning. As for the fast, they were incredibly fast, going from placing my order to having the bowl in front of me in about 3 minutes. The bowl had a hash brown base, with some tasteless sausage and noticeable cheese, with a couple of scrambled eggs. This is the sort of dish I would normally dump on some ketchup and add a liberal amount of salt, yet I didn't this time. I was actually fine with the bowl the way it was served. It was early and still quiet, just a few regulars and me. The restaurant is old. I sat down at the counter, which gave me an excellent view at the cooking area. This was so not a shiny sparkling clean place. I tried looking at cooking surfaces vs just equipment that was darkened by years and years of use. They need an upgrade. There was also a dish washing or dish rinsing station right on the opposite side of the counter from where I sat, so for a minute or two I had someone directly in front of me close enough to feel like we were in each other's personal space. If you visit, sit at a booth. This Waffle House is conveniently located just west of I-75 at the US 301 exit and is open 24 hours / day. read more

Honesty I had never been to a Waffle House before. They always seemed rather sketchy to me. But my in-laws, southern natives who have been living in the West insisted we go here for breakfast, so reluctantly I agreed. My husband got their hash-browns, all the way but minus chili - which I tried some of and actually liked quite a lot - I just got a waffle which was a lot better then I expected. They were very busy at 10am New Years Day so we had to wait to be seated a while but once we were seated the food was out fairly quickly. Service was very very friendly. Had my Father's Day breakfast there. Staff was very friendly. Lots of employees on the job ready for the Sunday breakfast. Had an all star breakfast that was pretty good. Hockey pucks were overcooked and waffle was undercooked. I would really like to see the wait staff ask customers if they want a straw. If they don't, it would save a straw and save it from being put into the trash or find its way into the ocean. read more

And that should've been the first indication that the Visit/meal was not going to go well. The food prep area was not clean the grill was dirty and even the waffle makers had burnt grit all over them, which ended up on the food I ordered. Before last night I have never patronized the Waffle House. And after my experience last night I never will again. When we walked in the bar area was a complete mess, which surprised me because the place was not busy at all. After we cleaned our own areas with the paper napkins, one of the employees proceeded to wash dishes which produced a foul odor and overspray into our area. Then after a few minutes one of the waitresses offered to clean the counter. She cleaned the areas next to us. Once we ordered I finally realized how dirty and disgusting the whole kitchen and grill area was. It looked as if it had not been cleaned in days. The waffle area had burnt batter and crumbs everywhere. I honestly can not believe I stayed and actually ate there. The staff was nice but everything else was disgusting. Waffle House was founded by a couple of guys from Georgia in the 50s and, fortunately, it seems that they're still pretty close to the original formula: good food fast at fair prices with friendly service. Our server Maria was super attentive but clearly everyone on the staff was outgoing and ready to please customers. They put out a nice breakfast that will make you feel like a long haul trucker. My husband had to leave the table and ask for them. And then.... They came packed to-go... Hello! We are eating here!!! And we haven't even finished our sandwiches!!! And I am not even saying that she came to our table, asking if she gave us the right ones... You probably will think that it was busy... No!!!! 3 people were there while we were eating. The only fast and the right thing we got - was the check. That is the worst waffle house we've ever been. If you don't care about the service and the impression you make - don't work in this industry. Oh yeah, while we were eating, one of the working guys complained to the other that he just cleaned his area, and then customers! came in...
