I'm on vacation from CA and unfortunately the West Coast isn't blessed with Waffle Houses, so of course it was a must to visit one on our trip. I got the same thing I usually get on these trips: a hash brown bowl with ham, sunny side up eggs, and cheese plus a blueberry nougat waffle. I always love how crispy and nicely seasoned the hash brown bowls are, and especially love that the eggs are so runny because I love to mix it in with the rest of my bowl. The blueberry nougat waffle was super crispy, savory and sweet, and was very delicious with their serving butter and maple syrup. And all of that was only $15.25 (that's before we tipped)! I always love eating at Waffle House, because they're always such nice and cozy little diners to hit on the go. This experience was extra warm and welcoming because our waitress, Carol, kindly took our orders, had meaningful conversations with us, and checked up on us every so often to make sure we had everything we needed (any other sauces, accommodations, filling up waters, etc.) She's amazing! We'll definitely come back to this Waffle House when we get the chance to again and hopefully we'll get to share our stories with Carol, too! read more

I was meeting my mom for her birthday and running late, so I was already frazzled when I walked in the door. Juniper ( our waitress ) must've noticed this, because when she approach the table, she was very friendly, calm, cool and collected, and offered me a drink immediately after welcoming me in. I ordered a coffee, and as she quickly returned, I had somehow (in all my frazzle) completely spaced out on the fact that I myself am allergic to all animal dairy proteins and milk, and asked "you guys don't have any alternative milks, do you?" She seemed truly apologetic as she told me they don't, and I assured her it was okay as I returned the creamer to her, and asked for sugar. I then went over the menu with her to see what items had dairy or butter in them. Come to find out quite a lot of foods at waffle House are either premade with butter or have butter in them. But this staff went above and beyond to help ya girl out. She informed me that all of the grits were made with butter, but when we asked the chef Sean Patrick, he then questioned if the grits have been made for the day, and when he found out that the water was indeed still boiling, he made me grits that were completely plain without the butter add-in so that I could have grits with my meal and made me plain toast so I can add my non-dairy butter once I'm home. I also informed them of my other allergy, which is unfortunately onions and they paid close attention to that as well. I can tell that this waffle house staff gets along well and seems to have no problem working as a team, individually, or in pairs - really honestly just working together. The time that I spent in the restaurant might've been short, but it was quite refreshing having a staff who actually - pardon in my gibberish here - gave a damn about my allergies. I will always take the time to acknowledge a staff who not only understands that, but also goes out of their way to try to assist me. I have only actually known about my allergies for a few years now. Before I became anaphylactic allergic to dairy or onions, we just thought it was acne. But things are different now, and I'm still getting the hang of it. For those of us who have debilitating allergies and can't eat at chain restaurants anymore because of the reactions that we have, you should train your employees to be more like this. It is hard enough to go to the grocery store let alone find restaurants that I can get more than a salad with no dressing. Which is why it was awesome to go to a Waffle House and meet people who are so understanding and willing to help has been a true experience all in its own. You do not come across that often. Most people don't really take care in helping me with my allergy because it doesn't affect them. And sadly, when something doesn't affect someone personally it seems like they don't really try as hard. But that was not the case with the staff members I dealt with today. Juniper and Sean Patrick showed me complete kindness, care and understanding. I can't be in charge of how they are rewarded, but they are deserving to at least be recognized if not more. They made me feel normal, like I wasn't a problem for asking to just simply eat food that I can eat. Most importantly, I know they care, and I feel safe eating here. And I think as someone who can barely eat anywhere, that's saying something. I will be returning to this Waffle House 10/10. And yes Sean Patrick, the food slapped. read more

Cleanest WH I've ever seen. Party of 4, almost midnight in a Saturday. Full house. Joshua served us, he was stellar, polite and attentive. 2 of us had patty melts and they were really nice and didn't need to add anything to it. 1 of us had a cheeseburger and said it was juicy and good, grandpa had scrambled eggs, potatoes smothered, bacon and toast. My companion ordered a waffle. It was made well and apparently tasted very good. I got the T-Bone and Eggs breakfast. The eggs were done right. I asked for a well-down T-Bone, however, and working from right to left the meat got pinker inside. I would have returned it hadn't I been nearly finished as it was. The orange juice was okay but I was not brought a straw. The coffee was passable. There were two employees yucking it up in the corner passing comments on other workers. It wasn't very pleasant. There was a definite split between the workers. A few worked hard and about three of them seemed to be doing little or nothing at all. There was a bossy supervisor or person manning the register. I couldn't tell if she had real authority or was just throwing her hefty weight around. The cook was bedeviled by this person who yelled the same orders two or three times before handing the ticketed order over. Think twice or even twenty times before dining at the Waffle House... prices are comparable to any local diner in our area. I ordered a breakfast plate. I was asked what side I wanted. I told the waitress I didn't want a side. I was informed I #HAD to pick one. Strike one. You don't order customers to get a side. #Bullies So I was forced to eat hash browns. The waitress served me a side of gravy I asked for before the cook even started my food on the grill. Strike two. Never serve a side hot food before the meal has even been cooked. Did she think I wanted to eat my gravy before my breakfast with a spoon? #IQ The cook was so busy training another employee she wasn't paying attention to the orders that she actually had the new employee rehearsing back to her. Strike three. #Distracted Hash browns I was forced to order only cooked on one side. Strike four. #RawFood Ordered eggs over medium, they were served over easy. Strike five. #DoesntFollowDirectionsOfNewEmployee Then to top it all off the waitress hovers over you to a see what tip you are writing in. Strike six. #Intimidation Over all this diner in my opinion isn't a diner. It's a dive! A dive where bulling, and intimidating your customers is a part off their everyday operation. My advice is pass the Waffle House up and go to a local favorite, Banks Grill. Where for the same prices, you get excellent service with joyful smiles. And the food is impossible for their chef to mess up. I give Banks Grill 5 stars. As for Waffle House, I think I've wasted enough of my precious time on you. There's a big sign on the window that says "Breakfast with a smile". Not at this store! The waitress and cook both seemed irritated from the moment I pulled into the parking space out front. The waitress came up to take our order but my daughter wasn't ready. The waitress practically insisted that I go ahead and place my order and that she'd come back for my daughter's even though I told her I'd rather wait. She made it seem as if I was being difficult. So, I gave my order and she proceeded to stand there on here phone, at our table, and wait for my daughter's order. She never came back except to drop off the food and then the check. All in all, the food was ok but the service was ridiculously subpar. Have had "not great" experiences here in the past but was trying to give them one more chance. This was their last! read more

I go to WH often and every other time I go the cook gets my order right, I heard the waitress say the order right and the cook said " well is there anything else" and he just kept mumbling smart comments under his breath. I ordered 5 scrambled eggs with cheese and when he finished cooking then the cook brought it to me, and said "hope this will hold you" I noticed the eggs didn't have cheese and I let him know that and he comment back was " it's not my fault your server didn't tell me " and slapped his legs with his hands. This location is located at 5060 US Highway 70. Not much decor to speak of in this Waffle House. The staff is OK. On this visit I order a new item on their menu the oatmeal with dried fruit. Usually very good whenever I go to Waffle House. The Waffle House in Morehead as with so many places here, was built to small. They have very limited seating and so many people just skip going because they will not get a seat. I know it is a mainly breakfast eating place so they thought to make it small but had it been bigger, they would have had more customers instead the customers do not go because not enough seats and they go somewhere else. read more

I love Waffle House resturants but just ate at the one in Morehead City and it was awful. My son asked for a salad with Thousand Island, waitress said ok, she brought French dressing. He asked for another salad b/c he put the dressing packet on before he saw it was French. The waitress said she thought they did not have Thousand Island anymore. On 10/3/19 we ate at this Waffle House and Melissa was our waitress. She placed our order wrong however my husband and I let it slide and ate what we got just to keep things simple. We always order the same exact thing--all star special and a Texas bacon egg and cheese melt with 2 orange juices. The total came out to be $25.50. We were confused because usually our total would be around $18 and some change. We got our ticket, added up the totals from the menu (with tax) and added up the totals from the ticket we got. Nothing matched. We let it slide because we aren't complicated people like most. But how does it jump from 18 to 25 when our order is no different from any other time we visit ANY Waffle House. We knew Melissa over charged us just like Chris did in the havelock location. But we will be back soon to test the waters again at both locations. read more

Nothing fancy, but we go there for late hour craving. Asked for 3 soft drinks, and got four. Asked for two waffles, and got three. Of course, we were charged for what we did not order. Servers aren't very attentive, and the sanitation does not look like 95, which was shown as their sanitation grade. I hope this facility will improve its sanitation and service. read more

Morehead city waffle house is one of the best waffle houses I have been to. The new management has taken control of a sticky situation and cleaned it up a lot since the first time I entered the building. The store has gotten whipped into better shape and the servers have been limited to the ones who actually care about their jobs. Food comes out fast and hot and always delicious. We were not sure if we were to be seated or seat ourselves so when spots opened up we felt compelled to ask and told once a seat is free and table is clean you can sit. Been here quite a few times and don't know if I'd go back. Piss poor customer service! Only 1 booth with customers when we arrived and to have food served in batches instead of all together is crazy. Noticed mold on my wife's bread bit all we were told by waiter is "That sucks", no offer to replace it or take it off order. Then I ordered the All Star and only got my 2 eggs after about 10 minutes, Then he came by and asked what I was missing, I said everything else. Saw him talk to the cook, he slapped some grits in a bowl and put them on my table. Then came back later with some sausage and a waffle. Mind you, my wife and daughter are probably almost done eating by now. My eggs are starting to get cold and I ask if I could get some hot eggs and was told that I'd have to wait until the 2 tables that arrived after me get served first. I looked at him like he was crazy for saying that to me and I told them to take all of their food back as I no longer wanted it.
