Frankly, I was craving a little bit of a mess, but no objections. The beef flavor was good. The cheese was fully melted. I do wish the onions were a bit more caramelized. I will admit to being intrigued by the pistachio cake. I almost ordered a slice, but that was too much green food dye for me. Will I return? Yes.

Something inherent about the menu and the food that escapes cafes nearer home. Recommend dress code: jeans and T shirt, and that is fine.... We have been visiting for the past 38 years. "This is our 38th year," said Owner Tony Satariano. "We are now at the magical number of 5 million lights." "And honestly, once it's up, it's truly a lot of fun," Satariano said. "Everybody comes here... They're all in a good mood. I started with an espresso martini before my Benedict Your Way with smoked salmon, and it was so good that I had to have another one after my meal! Smooth, delicious, and the perfect way to bookend a great breakfast. And then there was the Benedict. I substituted the English muffin for a biscuit, added smoked salmon, and asked for extra hollandaise. Life changing. The biscuit was such a delicious upgrade with the smoked salmon, eggs, and that rich, creamy hollandaise. I honestly didn't want the meal to end. But the real finale was the crème brûlée. Absolutely perfect. The caramelized sugar on top had that beautiful crisp crack when I broke into it, while the custard underneath was silky, creamy, and perfectly balanced. Not too sweet, just rich enough, and the contrast between the delicate caramelized topping and smooth custard was exactly what a great crème brûlée should be. Paired with my last espresso martini, it was an incredibly satisfying way to finish the meal. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I'd love to see a few more vegetarian and pescatarian options on the menu. Otherwise, Ellie's is a lovely place with genuinely friendly people, great food and drinks, and that warm Yellow Springs charm. I'm happy to support them and will definitely be back!
