Horrible service. Food was not edible, The chicken fried steak was basically raw, the hash browns tasted stale as if they were cooked the night before and reheated the next day. The omelette did not have fresh produce and the eggs were completely over cooked. My son's breakfast sandwich which was the least ingredients was the only thing semi edible. We paid for breakfast and left two entire meals this morning. You cannot feed customers raw food period and old food. We work hard for our money however we won't eat bad food. If you're like your breakfast with a side of NRA stickers, police worship, and "good ol boy" charm then this is the place for you. For me and my house, after one visit we just don't feel we will be back. I don't feel that this is an incredibly welcoming environment for a family like mine. It just screams days gone by but the days that are probably best left in the past. Of course one can have nostalgia for the old towns from the gold rush. Interesting relics from the time. That's all fine and dandy. But bringing some of the social constructs of those times into a restaurant just feels odd. To top it off the food is just what you would expect from a greasy spoon breakfast joint. Overly salty sausage, extra greasy bacon, biscuits and gravy that are extremely heavy on the gravy. Basically your standard coronary on a plate breakfast joint. And some people like that. It's just not for us. Won't be back. read more

Went in for coffee and probably came out with covid-19. Many of the customers not wearing masks. Even the employees we're sporadically wearing masks. apparently the employees did not understand that coughing sneezing and breathing on silverware and glassware was just as dangerous as doing so on customers. Here's the low-down: 1. Food - There's a lot of attention to detail here; there's fresh baked bread, there's Gumbo made daily, there's fresh fries. This is not a place that embraces canned / frozen foods. The medium rare burger I had was perfect with fresh fries and (seemed like) a freshly baked bun. My one complaint was the first cup of coffee; it tasted a little burned, but we were there late in the day. Also, I'd have rather seen a smaller menu featuring only what they do best, but that's my preference. I did not hear any complaints from anyone else while I was there. 2. Service - It was busy, and it's a coffee shop; you're not here to have a Maitre d' experience. You're going to get the friendly coffee shop vibe that borders on overly familiar. If you're not used to this, it might feel uncomfortable, but stay with it, you'll expand your horizons. 3. Ambiance - Wagon train doesn't try to be what it's not; it's a coffee shop with some fantastically crafted food. It feels like a locals-only gem despite its location in the middle of the downtown area. I really wanted to like this place because it has so much history and seems very rustic, sitting outside with the trains going by transports you back in time. Although the service was nice and they do a great job at refilling your coffee, the food was really bland. I ordered the special which had ham cheese and egg with a pepper and they didn't even dice up the pepper and left it whole. My scramble was also a bit raw inside. Great way to start my morning! Went here after a night of drinking and was very thankful. The food was really good I absolutely loved the gumbo and my burger. Our server was super nice and friendly. Delicious! Prices are pretty steep with the except of this $10 breakfast bagel! I ordered the bagel with turkey and pepper Jack cheese and it was probably one of the best bagel sandwiches I've ever had, perfectly toasted bread, plenty of toppings, and nice and warm. Also read on their sign that breakfast is 1/2 off for early birds before 7:30am which means I'll have to come back! read more

We were in Truckee during the brunch rush and parked in front of Squeeze Inn which had a huge line. So we walked just down the street and found a great spot at the Wagon Train. The menu is huge and so are the portions! Two of us had gigantic bloody mary's - totally worth the $14. We were on the edge of breakfast and lunch and went for burgers and I had a turkey bacon avocado melt. They have a great choice of sides and my husband and I had fruit. The fruit was impressive - bananas and watermelons - not just the usual cantaloupe and strawberry. Good stuff. Service was great too and friendly atmosphere. Ok so I tried to check in while there but the wifi wouldn't work. The waitress was very nice the place was very rustic with wagon wheels and animal heads on the walls. Lots of pictures also. The place was cute but kinda dirty. The bathroom was dirty and the door has a sign that says push hard to open. Very busy and everything tightly squeezed in. I had biscuits and gravy which was pretty good and a fruit salad which was really very good. My husband had chicken fried steak which he ordered medium because the waitress warned that well would be tough as it was made of elk. It came out well and tough and tasting of old fish oil. Do not recommend that at all. The place had a good atmosphere and nice people but had to take stars for my husband bad food and lack of cleanliness. It's a nice restaurant with pleasant staff and good food. I used to see this place from the train. When I started skiing Tahoe area in the late 80's, I started eating there. I can't recall any bad food or bad experiences, ever. Once, a local drunk sat down at our booth. My friend was very upset by this. A waitress gently shooed him away. Best breakfast restaurant EVER! My boyfriend and I were a couple of first timers this past weekend. We will be going back and telling everyone to stop in. We were in Truckee for two days and both days went here for breakfast. The service is nothing short of perfect. Everyone is so friendly and hard working. They make you feel at home. The atmosphere is really fun with a lot of history on the walls. The food, well all I can say is the BEST biscuits in the WORLD!!! I can't believe how good they were. It is a must if stopping in. I'm very disappointed to see this establishment get such low ratings. I actually really enjoyed our breakfast here. Prices were a bit steep but food was great. The blueberry pancakes were worth the upcharge as there were blueberries everywhere. The pancakes had a good chew to them, with a slight crisp on the edges. Bacon was thick cut and perfectly cooked, despite their appearance. The Kaanapali scramble consisted of ham, pineapple and pepper jack cheese along with a sprinkle of pepper flakes. Walked in, saw the "seat yourself" sign, went to the table by the window (brought grandson up to Truckee for a nice drive and to visit the snow). We attempted to sit at this table, did notice the tip and rag still sitting there, pulled chair away from table to sit when a very mean waitress snaped at us, "that table isn't clean yet". I replied we wanted to sit there, we'd wait, she replied, "it's gonna be a while" and walked away. I couldn't believe the way she treated us. So we waited and 5 minutes later no one cleared the table we wanted so we sat at the one next to it, another waitress showed up with waters, told us the menus are on the shelf next to us and left. I saw a $30 hamburger which was alarming, the prices all seemed very high, but it is in Truckee. Again, no one returned so we stood up to walk out and someone had the nerve to yell at us as we left, "thank you". SO Weird. We ended up at a great little place a few building down, prices were more reasonable, service was awesome. We couldn't get over the way they treated us, we had gone there serveral times in the past, we figured something was off, but what??. Then prior to writing this review I figured it must be bc they were closing soon. Which if that was pointed out to us when we walked in I would have left without a bad taste in my mouth.... (see what I did there). Anyway NOT going back to this place EVER. The rude watruss was heavyset woman with died blond, white hair tied up in a pony tail on the near top of her head. I haven't written a review in a while but coding Tahoe we came across this cute town of Truckee, and decided to have breakfast at the wagon train. We were greeted and seated immediately. The service was amazing, everyone was sweet including what I believe is the owner who was also helping around. I got the biscuits and gravy with sausage scrambled eggs with veggies .
