TL;DR Sliced wagyu. On a stick. ----- What you see is what you get! WagyuKushi is a food stall located outside of Don Quijote by Ala Moana. It serves delicious, thin-sliced wagyu skewers in several formats. I opted for the for plate lunch option, which comes with a large serving of furikake-topped rice, either tossed salad or charred romaine lettuce (I chose the romaine), and two skewers with a side of their special wasabi sauce. Be prepared to wait a while as they prepare the skewers. I'd say my order took about 20-25 minutes from when I ordered to when I was handed my plate. Other than that, my only real complaint is that you can't select a temperature option for your skewers. Their standard is to overcook the meat to ensure uniform doneness (and, I'm sure, avoid any food-related illnesses). Since the meat is marbled and fatty, it's still relatively tender and juicy, so it's not a huge deal. But just a heads up. The skewers were delicious, especially paired with the tangy wasabi sauce. I'm a relatively big eater and two skewers were sufficient, but next time I'll probably add one more to really feel full. read more

It was more than enough so probably will try skewers next time It was good and really moist - cooked about medium which I didn't mind and the way they cut the steak pieces were good sizes. The fatty flavor was there. I can't complain about all the oil/fat because that's where all the flavor is but just FYI if you don't like that. Steak plate or Wagyu skewer? Well Wagyu of course!!!!! I heard people talking about this place and always wanted to go; well I finally did. You place an order and wait about 15-20 mins for skewers to be cooked. I have say that the birds next to the tables are getting pretty darn bold - they walk right by your feet and have no problem being close to you. As far as the wagyu skewers, it tasted fine. It is thinly cut squares of meat and they are skewered and cooked. They have a sauce on the side that gave it a sweet taste when you put the sauce on. It was a decent taste and will fill you up. As I said, it tasted fine and when I asked others what they thought, they said they enjoyed it. I said it was a little tough for wagyu and that's when they said "Oh I forgot it was wagyu.... oh maybe not that good for wagyu but fine as plain meat". That about sums it up. You can either get the skewers on their own or as a plate with rice and salad. Every order comes with a wasabi shoyu sauce and you can get an extra sauce for 30 cents. Walked by WagyuKushi countless times heading into Don Quijote while always thinking, "ooo, that looks good" when seeing the skewers of tightly packed thinly sliced U.S. Wagyu Beef sizzling on the flat top grill (while also wondering how each skewer is neatly packed in a long rectangular prism shape!). This place is just outside of Don Quijote at the food court. Menu is simple: 1 skewer for $5.99, 2 for $10.99 (as a plate lunch with rice & salad, $13.99), 5 for $24.99, and 10 for $45.99. Everything is made to order, so be prepared to wait a bit, and they a limited amount each day. Lady at the front was really nice. The sitting area at the food court is outside, windy and dusty, maybe smelly, and not as clean, but good enough. As for the skewer...ummm, it needed a bit more salt and pepper. The sauce was good and helped to add taste. The meat was unsurprisingly lean, slightly tough and dry, and overcooked. It did have a nice char and crispy side though. Overall, it wasn't too bad. The meat was so flavorful, juicy, tender. Omg, melt in your mouth!! It also came with a side salad + rice. The salad sauce was good. I wasn't a fan of the wasabi sauce that it came with. We ordered a few in which they charged for but didn't even use them. But overall everything was delicious!! If you like spicy, enhance the flavor by buying some Thai chili oil from the Thai spot next door. Definitely a hidden gem & would recommend this place 1000xs over. WagyuKushi is my treat every time I did grocery shopping at Don Quijote. When I say every time I rarely skip it. I mean why, they are the perfect bites to grab for a quick eats. I love how friendly those Filipinas staffs as well. When they see me they smile and greeted me. Makes me wanna come back for more wagyu skewers too. A lot of retirees eat here early in the morning too. The wagyu is sooooo soft... the presentation is thin thin slices that's like stacked. But the pieces just melt in your mouth! Imagine like croissants have flakes, but it being wagyu! It was nicely seasoned with maybe just salt. The cut that they use is a little "fatty," so if you ain't into it then you probably won't care for it! I enjoyed the famous wasabi sauce surprisingly. We always have to take time to visit this small kiosk in the Don Quijote outside food court when we shop. Prices are super cheap. $13 for 2 waygu skewers side salad and rice and only $6 to add one more skewer. There is a small wait as everything is cooked to order after you pay. They are usually open until 7 or when ever sold out so you have been forwarned. The Waygu sticks are so delicious and fun to eat. Itadakimasu。 いただきます。 My manager introduced me to WagyuKushi. He got me a plate lunch with 2 skewers of this savory, melt in your mouth wagyu beef on a stick served with steam rice and salad. The wasabi sauce is amazingly not spicy and bursting with so much flavors. So for my birthday, I bought 5 skewers of WagyuKushi and paired with my homemade mentaiko pasta. I'm so close to perfecting the recipe to make mentaiko pasta! The combination of WagyuKushi skewers and mentaiko pasta together is divinely delicious! You can find them right outside of Don Quijote on Kaheka Street. Parking is free but it's always filled and busy, no matter what time of the day. I've eaten here before and for the price I've always been satisfied. Today I saw that they had a new food item or at least new to me. A Wagyu skewer hot dog. Oh mah gawd. It was so tasty. Bold beef flavor, loved the fat pieces that infused more flavor. There was a tomato meat sauce and a Kewpie mayo cheese sauce. I need to eat this again cause I can't stop thinking about it. I ordered the Anniversary Special today. It was raining and I had walked by a poster advertising the special. It looked and sounded yummy. When I ordered the special, I asked the cashier if it was tasty, as I have never tried this business beforehand. I'm not sure she understood me. I was given a half nod and I couldn't make out what she said. Another woman who was cooking the Wagyu skewers said it's good. Nothing else. I was a bit concerned, however the meat sticks she was cooking looked good. I paid for the order and waited approximately 10 -12 minutes for the meal. I was expecting the meat to be extra tender, however it reminded me of a thick teriyaki stick. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty. It came with a sauce but I did not use it. The garlic shrimp was just that. The shell was left on, and that's okay, as the garlic flavor was mostly on the shell. There was a salad that became soggy due to the heat of the shrimp and beef stick. By the time I opened it up at home, the salad was wilted. For the price of $13.99, a plate that consisted of a skewer of beef, 5 pieces of garlic shrimp, rice, and a wilted salad, it was a reasonable price. The wagyu steak sticks were so tough including the fat; also lacked flavor. We ordered 3 plates and 2 extra sticks. We were so disappointed after not coming for some time. The sauce also was not to my liking either, it had more of a hot mustard taste. The original sauce was so much better. Not sure if me and my coworker that night had sore stomachs too (I threw up) since after elimination we both ate the same thing that day. It's cheaper than a single stick but if you get 10 it's even cheaper. I didn't need 10. Got 5 to bring to go picnic with a few friends. Tasty. I like it the way it is. I don't like whatever sauce they included. Too sweet. Hubs liked it. Only problem there is that they are really slow. After you ordered & payed they'll hand you the receipt with a number to be called if order is ready to pick up. Bitting into the Wagyu was so delicious. What's unique about this is that it reminds you of a plate lunch, a popular concept in Hawaij. In my opinion, the wasabi sauce does not pair with the Wagyu. If you are not into the taste of wasabi, you will understand what I mean. Otherwise the Wagyu was juicy, fresh hot and has a taste anyway! We found our way to eat at the little food stands outside of Don Quijote. This stand specializes in meat (wagyu) on a stick. Placed my order for 2 and patiently waited for my order to be ready. I watched the cook generously season the meat sticks, and lay them out on a flat top. It is cooked to order, so if you are in a rush, be aware that my order took just under 15 minutes. The pictures are decieving; it looks like these are cuts of meat on the stick, but when you get the stick, you'll find that these are thinly sliced meat cut nicely into a square shape, and layered upon each other (think shabu shabu thin slices of meat an inch or two thick) Curious how they cut the meat, but they do insist it's a proprietary process. Wagyu is fattier and if you only like lean meat, this might not work for you. The fattiness of the meat keeps the meat moist and flavorful. We found ourselves pulling off the meat in strips from the stick and dipping it into the sauce. These skewers probably don't travel well or do well with delivery drivers, but it is definitely a food for on-the-go. I got some additional items from a neighboring vendor, and that was a perfect lunch for me. If you like wasabi, ask for a second special sauce, it went really well with the Wagyu skewers. read more

Once upon a time... okay, last week, I was hungry from grocery shopping and rather than eat the food I got from Don Q (psssh, I KNOW I'm not the only one) I wanted to satiate my hanger and wanted to get something savory and quick. Sometimes, when I'm this hungry, I become really indecisive on what I want to eat so I really appreciate a place that keeps life simple and only offers one thing on the menu. So I found myself at this place, on the outskirts of Don Q, next to a plethora of grab n go eateries. I was pretty happy with my choice and opted for 2 of these bad boys. The carnivore in me enjoyed this juicy, super tender skewer and the wasabi shoyu sauce it comes with added another layer of flavor for my salivating tastebuds. It's not a big hunk of meat, as I had originally thought it'd be. Instead, they are thin slices of tender beef impaled on a long skewer stick. Luckily I still had some rice and kimchi (shout-out to Banchan House) at home so I ravaged these skewers in the privacy of my own home (instead of scaring the nice tourists that sat next to me while I waited for my order, which took less than 5 minutes and there was no line). Price is a little steep... 1 skewer for $5.99, 2 for $10.99 (for an extra $3, you get rice and salad).
